We get to the restaurant, Kai Pez, after about 90 minutes, went on a boat excursion and came back and had lunch. The lunch had chicken, rice, beans, fried fish, guacamole, and salad. It was very tasty. I think we spent about 25 minutes and were able to change out of swimming attire. We got to eat outside in a raised, covered area that gave a great view of the lagoon and surrounding area. The food was buffet style so you could help yourself to all that you want. The servers were very friendly and accommodated every need. It was nice to have a local meal with the short time in Costa Maya.

Kai Pez was a jumping off point for our lagoon tour. We had a buffet here, as well a a place to change before catching our boat to the lagoon. Fried fish was excellent in our tacos! Guac was good, but lacked heat or cilantro. Rice and beans good and all service staff very friendly. The biggest issue were the facilities. When we arrived for the tour, they closed the bigger bathrooms so everyone on the tour had to wait in line at two stalls at the top of one of the onsite huts. A bit of a nightmare when you guide is saying we need to move along. Still felt lucky to be there and meet the locals, as they were all very nice.

What a spot. Truly. We wandered here from our rental, and were led to the table closest to the lake. We were all laughing, "It's like the lake came to US!" and "I wonder if they have anything closer!" It was absurd being somewhere so beautiful, that's the first thing. We have learned in Mexico that your mesera won't take your order until you order your second round of drinks. Order the micherritas, and keep them coming. Ice cold margarita topped with a Sol really hits the spot. Order the sopa de lima, even if you think it's too hot for soup. Get multiple orders of the chaya empanadas, little bites of heaven. Everything on this menu is fair game for lunch or dinner, though we prefer dinner here so we can watch the sunset. We've all had soup, empanadas, tacos, we have tried their cochinitas pibil, our friend had the shrimp. And their brownies for dessert really hit the spot. After you stuff yourself silly with food, walk down the pier and take a swim. It's part of the magic of this place. My first night in Bacalar we had dinner here, and were so enchanted by the lake that we jumped in with all of our clothes on and walked home wet, and happy as could be. Absolutely no regrets. It was so magical we went back two more times to eat, drink, and swim here. You cannot beat the location and the view. And I cannot wait to get back here for more sopa!

New place in town! Several delicious options on the menu. For the non vegetarian, the tacos de cochinita (regional specialty) are not to miss according to my friend. I am vegetarian and even tough there aren't many options, the ones available are good. You cannot miss the empanadas de chaya with Gouda cheese. Besides their delicious food, the location is really nice, you can hang out as long as the restaurant is open, swim and enjoy the lagoon and refresh in their bar.

Yummy, cheap, and fresh seafood. Lame coffee. But that's basically law of the land around Bacalar.

Very nice place in Bacalar. Simple but very good food. A bit off the main touristic places.

The food menu is extensive and features all the staples from the region and more! I ordered a Shrimp Ceviche to start, which was a really generous portion and it was enough for the whole table to share. For my main dish I had a Fried fish with Garlic and, after trying the garnish on the fish, a side of fried plantains. It was heavenly. The fish meat came out of the bones and it was really flavorful. the beers are cold and the service is fast!, cannot miss it! Covid notes: Ther are plenty of tables on the back patio and none of the spaces are closed door, also, everyone wears a facemask and hand sanitizer is provided on arrival.

We started with what I am assuming is fish broth and it was so good I ordered a second bowl, both of which was gratis. They also provide fresh chips for the table. Since it was six of us, we all ordered items to share. I got one of my absolute favorite dishes - pescado frito. It was absolutely perfect. Crispy and flaky with the fish being super tender. It was served with rice, a slice of maduro and a small bowl of frijoles negro. If I could've kissed the chef, I would have. They also have a variety of habanero sauces - my favorite was the Jamaican one (of course!). Also ordered was the grilled sea bass, bacon wrapped shrimps and the seafood skewers. The only meal that wasnt excellent was the carne de res. It was a little dry. It was a relaxing atmosphere and the service was on point. Definitely a great little spot. I wish we has more like these stateside.

Whenever in Mexico, I always try to hit up a taco spot, if not several. Since the hubby and I had just finished a boat tour with his parents, we decided to grab our first meal here. (It was on my list of bookmarked places. The in laws didn't join us as they wanted to go back to the Airbnb.) If memory serves, this is on or right off the main square area, so very easy to get to. I don't recall having to wait for a table. From our receipt, we got the items above. (It was hand written, so I'm not sure what everything cost.) I believe most tacos were $22 MX per while some were $25 MX each. And the tostada might have been $99 MX. I believe our whole bill was $295 MX. The shrimp ceviche was my fav. I'm a sucker for any kind of seafood marinated in citrus. This was good, especially with a little hot sauce. The tacos were tasty as well. The prensado / chicharron was deliciously chewy and meaty. I think we also got some fish tacos from my pix, but I didn't see it on my receipt, so I'm not 100% sure. That might have been a mistake now that I'm thinking of our time there. They may have given these to us in accident. If so, I know we told them about it. Service was fine. No fuss, no muss. They took our order and served everything when ready. I'm from the US and don't know any Spanish. Didn't have an issue communicating. Also, there's an English menu on the board as well. A fine place to grab some tacos if in the area. I'm more of an offal taco person, so I was missing those types of meats. But worth a stop by for a quick snack.

My boyfriend and I arrived for dinner without reservations but got there right when they opened and were seated immediately. Our waiter was fantastic. He explained how the restaurant works, offered us a tour, and walked us through the menu with thoughtful, spot-on recommendations. We were brought complimentary chips and salsa, and since we were told our entrées would take 45 minutes to an hour in the wood-fired oven, we started with the ceviche de maracuyá. So worth it. For our mains, my boyfriend ordered the steak and I got the lobster. Both were excellent, but the lobster... wow. I'm from the Bahamas and grew up eating great lobster, and I can honestly say this was the best lobster of my life. Something about the seasoning and the wood-fire cooking made it unbelievably rich and decadent. I haven't stopped thinking about it since. By the time we were finishing our meal, the restaurant had filled up, but it never felt too loud or chaotic. The space felt intimate, with dim lighting, planets scattered throughout the decor, and perfectly spaced tables that made the whole experience feel special. Out of all the places we ate in Bacalar, this was hands down the best, and the one we still talk about.
