Office held a tasting lunch today for food from Savory. Below is the list of food tried: BOLLYWOOD (MUST HAVE): grilled curry chicken wtih avocado on top.. This thing is crazy good, and the meat and avoado ratio great. Could you slightly more meat, but I am picky. APPLE PIE POCKETS (MUST HAVE) - their take on McDonald's favorite apple pie: to me these things were like friend chinese dumplings/wontons that you would get with apple filling inside. wow different taste, and very delicious Atlantic Salmon Protein: I was quite excited to try this and loaded up my plate with the Atlantic salmon, but when I bit into it, it was not as good as I had imagined. While the Salmon is really meaty, i would say the it was poorly marinated (lots of seasoning on top though) Grilled Chicken BBQ: Chicken was good, but dont think the Orzo with wilted spinach and spring onion, grilled corn is a good match. Maybe try to pair it with Pesto and it would much better. Pesto: regular old pasta, but excellent. The pasta wasnt stiff or soft and was just right. Alex and his team who were onsite during our office party went above and beyond to ensure that everyone had a wonderful time. They were attentive, pleasant and extremely professional. Savory is my go-to caterers for breakfast and lunch meetings when I want to impress clients. Their menu selection and presentation has always been a step above their competitors. The difference is in their attention to details. Their menu has great little unique touches like lemon curd and house made butters and cream cheese. I also love their quiches and breakfast hand pies. I also love that their delivery person, doesn't just drop off the food, they take the time to make the perfect presentation, which they then document with a photo. Savory used to cater to my company and god their food was just awful. My company took our complaints and decided to switch and I'm so grateful. Their chicken is hard and you cant even take a bite, shrimp is not fresh and they list their salad items to make it look like they are offering us a lot of options. Seriously why list onions, tomatoes and peppers?? They serve the same stuff everytime but give the entrees different names. They were okay when they initially did our catering but one week after that they went downhill. We used to throw out all the food or go out and eat. They really need to change their plan. read more

"Large" to Savory won't cover 8 to 10 people. Let's start there. Recommendation: If you are ordering catering, especially for a group of executives, double the number of attendees for the order. I've used Savory multiple times both at Clear Channel Outdoor and at iHeartMedia. The food is decent, the portions are small, until you realize the trick to saying there's 20 people in a meeting, when there's really only 10 people. It seems like they don't want your order either. Slow to respond to emails. Here's the KICKER ladies and gentlemen: I went to place an order yesterday (to which they got back to me today); I asked for a credit card authorization form. They sent a COMPLETED credit card authorization form from WeWork!!! I now have the Amex number to another woman. WOW. The form was signed on 12/14/17. Tried this place for lunch. I ordered a thai peanut chicken dish with brown rice, kale and carrots, and they included a ginger chew. It was packaged very nice. My 3 star rating is becuasue it was cold. It came within the time frame for delivery but wasn't expecting a cold chicken dish. Actually more like luke warm. So I can't comment on pricing - a rep had stopped by last week and brought us a basket of sandwiches and a salad. But I can comment on the flavors and savoriness.... First up was half of The CLT. Garlic/herb grilled chicken, romaine, a tomato and a schmear of mayo. While I didn't appreciate the mayo I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of chicken given and the bread - delicious and super soft bread! The 2nd half sandwich I tried was The PB&J. The pretzel bun + peanut butter combo sold me but the sandwich ended up being weird. It was missing any peanut butter flavor and the strawberries inside were soggy. Blah. Last up was a salad - I couldn't find it on their online menu but it was arugula topped w/ crumbled feta, mandarin slices, corn and served with a lemon vinaigrette. The combo of orange and corn was weird. But the lemon vinaigrette was delish. So overall these guys have some good ideas but the execution is a bit weird. Probably wouldn't be my first choice of lunch spots, but one of those places you can find something if in a pinch. read more

It's a late winter night at the office and you're throwing your usual Models and Bottles Party. That is, Excel Models and Water Bottles. You have a project deliverable tomorrow morning and you need to satisfy your hunger. You log onto seamless.com and you see the first restaurant on the list, !Savory. You're tired. The reviews are ok. The menu looks appetizing. The Boozehound is whispering your name with its penne, vodka sauce and Italian sausage. It doesn't matter you've never heard of this restaurant before. You want something warm and hearty, something that will cheer you up. You throw in some Mozz Sticks and Quinoa and place your order. You get your moment of clarity. You realize, the "!" in front of Savory was possibly a gimmick to put the restaurant on top of the alphabetical list. The restaurant is really new, with only 5-6 reviews on Yelp. The description says it's "Delivery-only". The delivery-only concept has you sweating. Where are they cooking this from then? Is it someone's kitchen? Anxiety rises. You look at the location and it's way over on the west side. Even if you did want to check out the actual kitchen, you can't because you, as a New Yorker, never venture past 10th avenue unless you're going to Hudson Terrace. Your frustration mounts. You start auditing the formulas in your model. F2, down, F2, down, F2, down, F1... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU The computer freezes for a second because Excel just feels the need to bring up a separate help window. Things. Cannot. Get. Worse. Then the phone rings. "Hello sir, this is Travis from Savory with your order in the lobby." Wow, this kid has manners. You walk down and he's actually already there, unlike other deliverymen who preemptively call you. He's wearing a white collared shirt and red tie. He greets you like a real waiter should. Then he takes out the food, which are each neatly packed in an oven bag. You thank him and go upstairs. Your night might not be so bad after all. The penne is heavy. It's neatly packed within its own reflective box to ensure its warmth. The quinoa is savory and it's so hard to find the superfood on delivery menus. The mozzarella sticks could use some work as it didn't melt, but why am I being picky? The storefront of Savory's been open for a couple of months so I thought I'd try it out today. Better yet, they were doing a deal that you get a half-sandwich for free with a purchase of $6. I got a split pea soup for my boss, who said it was just okay. I got a full roast beef sandwich for myself, and while I enjoyed it, I would not get it again. They threw in some cookies and hot chocolate on the house, which was cool of them. They have a very limited selection - 3 soups and no more than 5 types of cold sandwiches. Most of the sandwiches have pork in it, which isn't appetizing to me so that limited my choices. So while I was initially excited about Savory, I now don't see any reason to return, especially when the full sandwich size is super overpriced at $12. read more

I stumbled upon this place on Seamless when I was visiting town on business. I didn't have time to go out to some fancy dinner or even go out period after a long conference day. Set up as a deliveyr only concept, these guys put all the energy on nailing the food #anditworks! I was super impressed with "The Colonel" drumsticks -- moist yet crisp, juicy and filling for an appetizer. The Nicoise here was fresh and big enough to justify the premum at $19. On an environmental, these guys nailed it with their custom eco-friendly packaging! Makes you feel less bad about all the extra stuff you toss with standard Seamless orders. In short, thee guys have fast, reliable delivery and consistently delicious food. It isn't cheap, but really worth the couple extra bucks for the food, experience and ease of ordering. This cannot be a secret any more. Savory Full is the best of the Savory Trio and def deserves a review on Yelp! They have very flavorful Asian food, from Thai chicken, to Indonesian Tempeh, to Laos turkey larb. (sigh... not mcuh Chinese/Jap/Koren presentation) You can build your own plate w/ one entree and up to 4 sides. So far my faves include the sauteed kale, shredded cabbage salads. I love this place. The quality of the food, service, and thoughtful packaging is worth every penny. The baby spinach in their Cobb salad is the best I've ever had. The Boozehound pasta is absolutely delicious. I ordered their Burger last week and was expecting your typical burger, but was pleasantly surprised. They separated the buns to prevent sogginess, and the patty was PERFECTLY cooked, slightly red in the center. Amazing. And this is delivery, folks. DELICIOUS! I've had their mozz sticks which are like no other! They will make you never go near a bar food mozz stick ever again. Fresh cheese, not greasy but a terrific breading, bright sauce. I had their pasta with fresh cheese and sausage. So yummy! I've also had a salmon sandwich which was on the most amazing bread... tasted like the bread version of an onion bagel. Side salad of corn and tomato was delicious. Portions were perfect for lunch. What makes Savory great is that it's clear they use fresh, homemade ingredients. I agree with others that have noted that Savory does all the little things right. I imagine this is because they have lower overhead than most other delivery spots. The cutlery is strong and the napkin thick. The packaging is nice, lined with some sort of reflective material. The delivery staff is well mannered and dressed very nicely. Even the ketchup packets are awesome. They delivered promptly. I ordered a burger medium, with fries, and I had a coupon for free appetizer, so I tried the chicken tenders. The burger was good, a nice charred flavor, even if a bit dry-the bun was great. The fries were super tough and almost inedible. The chicken fingers are really good-they aren't just fried chicken pieces. They are thick, marinated well, and breaded very nicely. I would order again after they set into the business for a while longer. Also, the doughnut bites that they give are a nice treat. Much fresher and tastier than Dunkin Donuts Munchkins. read more

This review is for !Savory Full It's my own fault for expecting too much but charging $15-20 for a plate of food and taking 2 hours to deliver it when the estimate says 25-40 mins is unacceptable. Savory is clearly trying to appeal to corporate clientele with ! in front of the name (makes it first on the list in seamless), the fancy-pants delivery people, and the price tag (most banks and midtown firms allocate 25 dollars for dinner per employee). But - corporate clients will expect way more! Ordered - 1 plate of food (jerk chicken + lentils/cauliflower/quinoa) @ 7:35 pm. Called for status at 9:04 (allowed plenty of time), was first told that they couldn't find my order. When i insisted, the lady on the phone said 'um, could you give us, like 15 more mins?" Finally got the food 25 mins later (9:30) - almost 2 hours after placing the order. Gave it 2 stars instead of 1 cuz of the food about the food - the food is good for a healthy option, although not good enough to warrant waiting 2 hours.. Actually the jerk/thai/garlic chicken proteins are very flavorful and texturally superior to other healthly options in the area (i.e. Dig Inn). Sides are good too. read more

I really wanted to like it, but two chicken burrito bowls with chips and salsa for over $40 seemed way too overpriced. At half the price, I could get the same food from Chipotle and I'd do that all day. My recommendation: if you're craving mexican, I'd save my money and go for Chipotle or Blockheads. read more

I would like to first say that it's hilarious that Savory places an "!" in front of their name on Seamless to ensure that they pop up at the top of the dropdown when you first access the website. The food is very mediocre, and while the restaurant can boast all they want about the quality of their ingredients, this means very little to me as the diner if it tastes bad. I ordered the "Jamaican Me Crazy" and it was the most scatter-brained attempt at an entree that I've ever seen. It had chicken, cauliflower, sweet potato, ratatouille all crammed into one plate and was underwhelming to say the least. A bunch of other guys keep ordering this dish and say they love it...but I'm about as baffled about this as when I tried watching Seinfeld for the first time. In other words, I respect that other people may like it and enjoy it...but am baffled by the why and the how. read more

This was my first time ordering Savory and it was disgusting. I ordered a sandwich and it came on rock hard bread (that was also somehow soggy?). It's missing several ingredients that were listed in the description which is annoying considering I ordered it because of those ingredients. Way too salty and it's just gross. They must have made it two days ago. It's going in the trash. The delivery was quick and they even dropped it off at my desk. That was the only good thing about this experience. Never again. I've ordered from Savory several times before. The food's definitely presented/packaged in a manner that's better than most delivery joints. That said, it's definitely overpriced in some instances, given that part of their cachet is that they are a delivery-only restaurant. Given I usually order to Midtown East, the delivery times can also be a bit long - I've waited an hour for an uncomplicated order before, which is longer than I'd prefer. As for the food, the burger is a winner for sure. I wouldn't say it's the best burger I've had, but doing a burger as they do - straight up give you a properly-sized beef burger with minimal sides - is much appreciated. It's a juicy patty that is no-frills in terms of being baked with a secret sauce, but it's better than what a similar burger from a place like New York Burger Co. would be. One time, I did venture off my tried-and-true burger and had the grilled chicken. Completely unremarkable is how I would put it, and I don't think I'll ever eat anything else besides a burger from here. Well, that and the mini donuts, which are pretty tasty, and the bag of mini chocolate chip cookies (which are good but a little too buttery). All in all, unless you're one of those lucky people who work at a firm that covers your dinner expenses (but unlucky enough to be at work that late), this probably isn't worth the cost. It's definitely more than your average delivery shop, but if you're in the mood for above-average fare that doesn't come to you in cheap packaging, it's worth at least a couple of tries. read more

I recently worked with Savory to cater for 100+ people the entire day, from breakfast to hors d'oeuvres. I highly recommend them for the following reasons: - You can tell them what your event requirements are, such as number of people, their dietary needs, and budget, and they will create a menu proposal for you. - They create proposals that show item by item, what is being ordered so that you can customize it for your particular event. - Their food deliverers don't just drop food off, they take time to display them well. The person who delivered our hors d'oeuvres brought a table cloth and took 30 min. to set up food for 100! - The food itself is delicious. I received compliments the entire day. I highly recommend the breakfast granola bar (by the way, when they say it can feed 10, it can easily feed 20+) and the skewers for hor d'oeuvres. - They recommend a wonderful wait staff service that is equally customer service oriented. I want to extend my most heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Bill and the staff at !Savory Catering for so graciously catering my fundraising event for Gilda's Club NYC last week. I speak for all the guests when I say we were completely FLOORED by their generosity. They outdid themselves!!! It was more food than I ever would have imagined and there was enough to feed an army! There was even enough food leftover at the end of the night for guests to take home! The food was simply AMAZING and all the guests were raving until the very end of the night!!! While all of the food was superb, the star of the show was "The PB & J" and throughout the evening, guests could constantly be heard saying, "Have you tried those yet?! They are so good!," and pointing to them. There were literally only 4 pieces left at the end! The guests also highly praised the chickpea & feta quiche and the bacon & gruyere quiche, and each of these trays only had a few pieces remaining at the end of the night as well. Placed a huge order for a holiday work party (over $800) after a rather pleasant experience the first time. This time the delivery came 1 HOUR early - don't understand why the delivery service couldn't accommodate the 12:30pm delivery nor apologize for the inconvenience. Upon arrival, they just dropped the boxes off with all the food inside! The first time I ordered, the delivery was exceptional! This time, the food with in a huge cardboard box and I had to set up the entire delivery. There were also no name cards for the food delivered, which was a huge let down because this took away from the experience we were looking to create for our party. Finally a place that knows working late deserves a treat but that a full tiramisu every night is a bad idea...). Minus one star because my food was on the lukewarm side by the time it got to me, but it's a cold night and they seemed pretty busy. As other reviewers have noted, the prices are clearly geared towards late-night midtown office Seamless accounts, but on the plus side, they also recognize that sometimes you need a new pack of gum or an energy bar and working around the clock doesn't leave much time for a stop at the bodega.
