I ordered from here for the first time. I got spring rolls and chicken satay. I have to say that they were both some of the most flavorless food I've ever eaten. The spring rolls were made with spring mix and that was all I could taste. There was no Thai basil or cilantro which could have added SOME kind of flavor maybe. The sauce it came with was also lacking any depth of flavor. The chicken satay with its accompanying peanut sauce were devoid of any flavor also. Completely lacking in any spice. I work for DoorDash and this gives me the opportunity to see and try food from many different restaurants. Out of all of the Thai places that I have ever been to, Savory Thai has to be the best and this includes ones in Los Angeles. Their food is delicious delicious, never too heavy and leaves still feeling light and fresh. The staff is also wonderful, very friendly and kind and I love the way they have decorated the place. Incredible!! Our day adventure took longer than expected & we knew they were closing soon. We called in our order (I was soooo excited for the Panang Curry & it did NOT disappoint-- so so good! But I wanted to modify my rice choice to a side order of the curry fried rice. This was not on the menu but they made it happen. They were so cheery & welcoming when I came to pick up my order. When it comes to thai food, I'm pretty picky because I've tried many thai places. The food was okay but I didn't leave very impressed. We had the thai appetizer sampler which was good. However, The pad thai didn't not have the sweet pad thai flavor that I usually expect. We also ordered the massaman curry and it just sort of tasted bland to me. I can usually taste the spices in the curry and I didn't this time. We were the only ones in the restaurant and we never got checked on and our drinks were empty. The service here is incredible! I was quickly welcomed in, seated, and handed a menu. I immediately noticed how beautiful the menu was, especially in comparison to a lot of paper menus or e-menus, it was obvious that they had put a lot of thought into creating a quality menu that was easy to look through with great photos. I ended up getting some orange chicken off of their lunch special page and while it wasn't the best ever, it met my expectations and I'd happily order it again. They have a large lunch special menu so I highly recommend trying to make a stop here between 11 am-3 pm. Shout out to our server, Bobby, who was spot-on the entire time! He checked on us regularly without being too much, frequently filled our drinks, and even made sure to use my name multiple times after he read it from my card when I paid. My wife and I love this place. This is our go-to Thai food restaurant. We love the food, there are a lot of great vegetarian options, and the owner is absolutely fantastic. We put an order incorrectly online and ordered beef today. We thought it was an error on their part and called about it. They immediately were super nice about it and we realized when picking up the vegetarian curry that we were the ones that put it in wrong. Soon as I walked in I was greeted kindly. Handed me an order and was very helpful throughout my selection. I ordered the chicken pad Thai and it was a perfect portion and rich taste. I've eaten at Savory Thai a few times with a close friend and we greatly enjoyed it. It's possibly the best Thai restaurant in the entire Provo/Orem area, and our favorite Thai restaurant in any case. We greatly enjoyed their appetizer sampler at least a couple of times. I'd highly recommend their chicken pad thai, their drunken noodles, and their three yellow curries, which are probably my favorites, although everything else that I tried on their menu was also excellent. The food came out fast and the service was even faster, we barely had time to look at the menu, but never felt rushed. Masaman Curry with Chicken: A little spicier than traditional Thai places I've had, but still pretty good, not amazing good, but not bad. Spring Rolls: the sauce for these was so good! It came with two different ones and I liked the creamy peanut sauce the best, my wife liked the other one with crushed peanuts. Overall a good experience. Completely and awkwardly empty on a Saturday night, with only the flies to accompany us (Gross! Authentic?) The soda machine broke while we were sitting there, so we drank water. The girls working there seemed nice and they were relatively attentive, so this isn't a poor review of their service at all. The food was super weak though. I tried this gem for the first time yesterday after seeing it for months. I thoroughly enjoyed the Crepe and will definitely come back in the future for a late night desert here. The Pad Thai had a bunch of sauce which made it a tad overpowering but I enjoyed it nonetheless. My husband got the Curry Fried Rice and he said his food was amazing. I had a pretty decent experience here. The beef waterfall was delicious. Highly recommend. The pineapple curry was a 7.5/10. The flavor was good but the pineapple tasted a little weird. Maybe a tad fermented? We also branched out and got the curry rice. The picture made the dish look beautiful with lots of toppings but our dish came out looking kind of bland. I may... or may not have had a full meal right before this. A common occurrence, I know. Don't fault me, don't judge me, I try to burn as many calories as I consume... try (sorry Yoda). Chicken Skewers and peanut sauce... the chicken was okay as most of them are... because you really need that delish peanut sauce. And this sauce seemed like watered down peanut butter. Not sure if that's exactly what it was but... did not enjoy that. Cream cheese wontons were good. The crab flavor and the soy addition really brings out the delicious flavors that you are looking for and the sweet and sour sauce did a great job adding some sweetness to the tang. Mango curry... highly recommend it reheats well, the day after, wait any longer not such a great idea. It was yummy and really well mixed, sweet, curry, coconut milk. Chicken was fresh and the veggies were nice and crisp. My family decided to stop for dinner and we're not disappointed. We got basil fried rice, one with tofu and one pork. Both were delicious but needed a little more spice. One order of drunken tofu was flavorful but needed more sauce. The broccoli chicken, again was flavorful but had very little broccoli. They did not have a spice rack. Only soy. I ordered the massamon curry. It's a creamy tangy flavored curry with chicken and chunk potato. Excellent depth and wonderful flavor. The rice was perfect. My dessert was the Mango Sticky Rice. The rice was the perfect stiffness and excellent sweetness. The mango was on the soft side but not over ripe. It was a delight. Fried banana was great, the peanuts were a great addition. I guess I could do a review on all the thai food we've tried in the Provo/Orem area, but I think it suffices to say that this is probably our current favorite. Thai Ruby is up there for us and Spicy Thai is pretty good too. Thai Village has decent curry. Anyway, back to Savory Thai, it's got the flavor of pad thai that we like, the cashew nut chicken while not exactly like the dish we love in California, is delicious. The service was awesome! And the desserts were amazing. Loved the mango sticky rice and the crepes were pretty dang big! The mango curry was not bad, but I think we liked the pad thai and cashew nut chicken better. The ratio of great Thai food in Utah Valley to available Thai food in Utah Valley is confoundingly off. Places serving at least a few Thai choices are around so many corners, and yet the food itself leaves me wanting ... well, honestly, I want to see Anny from Chabaar/Tea Rose open something around these parts. I'm not sure Provo/Orem is ready for that, but boy I'd be the first in line to find out. Here's the problem I'm having with most of the Thai offerings down here - the cloying sweetness of the food is so high, but the Thai spice that should be present (or at least available) is so low. I understand the attempt to cater to a specific pallet for the majority, but there has to be more patrons than just me who would like to see these scales flipped. Even when I go so far as to visit with the chef and explain the flavors I'm looking for, it very often fails to live up to my hopes. This brings us to Savory Thai. I like it, but I'm a ways away from loving it. I appreciate their relatively large menu selections, with most standard offerings and a few uncommon choices (salmon curry, duck curry, purple mango sticky rice). We've tried several curries and stir-fries, some standards, a few items I've never had anywhere else, and most of the appetizer selections. Everything we've had has been at least just fine, and some things were better than average. Their fried potstickers, for example, are delicious and come with a sweet and sour sauce that I find addicting and downright drinkable. Their version of Drunken Noodles may be my favorite. The Pad Thai is perfectly acceptable, if a bit dry for my taste, even for Pad Thai. I found the yellow curry to be way too sweet. The green curry is my favorite of their standard curry choices. The red is good, but the green is better IMO. We order most of our selections with chicken, and have found that their chicken is cooked well, but I'd like to see more of it in most entrees. Hubby orders a version of Spicy Pad Ped that the chef makes off-menu. They're very accommodating that way - if you want something that doesn't appear to be on their menu, talk to the owner or the chef and they'll likely be able to make it for you. They're never that busy when we come here, either for dine in or take out. This typically results in plenty of parking, even considering the other storefronts in this small strip complex. Menu prices are standard for Utah Valley Thai food. Inside the restaurant is small, but I've never seen all of the tables full. Sometimes they take a while to get your to-go order ready, but I'm fine with that. I'd rather wait for freshly made food that will likely stay hot for the ride home. Dine in service has always been very hospitable. All in all, Savory Thai is just fine until something better comes along... read more
