Bangkok Wasabi has become one of my favorite spots in Orem, and I love that you can get Thai food and sushi all in one place! It's a small, welcoming restaurant that can be a little tricky to find, but it's absolutely worth the effort. The atmosphere is cozy and clean, and the staff are always polite and attentive, which makes the whole experience even better. It's the kind of place you just want to keep coming back to. But the food is what really wins you over. The Pad Thai is so tasty and satisfying, and they'll do it with tofu or chicken depending on what you're in the mood for. The Massaman curry is another favorite, rich and full of flavor, and the crispy calamari makes a great starter too! Everything comes out fresh and you can tell it's made with care. A really pretty little restaurant in central Orem! The music was calming and the staff was really kind and fast with the food. The food tasted really good and was hot and fresh! We ordered a couple appetizers and 2 entrees and we took food home. Great portion sizes for the prices. I would 100% recommend the Spicy Tuna Tar Tare it was a pretty presentation and tasted like you got it in Hawaii! Ok and as a plus size queen I appreciate that the chairs and booths are great for larger people! We are also both tall and the table was at a great height! This review is specifically about the sushi. It's a little odd to me that a place has two seemingly very opposite food cultures in Thai and Sushi (Japanese) and while my wife and our other diners really enjoyed her their Thai dishes, the sushi we got was just disappointing! I have to say I was expecting a little better given the star rating, interior etc. I really like the menu and the fact they tell you what's inside and what's on top of each roll, but despite ordering what I felt were described as very different rolls they all looked and tasted SO similar and with little in the way of those drastically different flavors in each sushi bite. My wife compared the quality and taste to grocery store sushi and she's not wrong. Might go back for more Thai dishes. Will definitely skip the sushi next time! read more

We got the green and yellow curry, crab wontons, Thai spicy fried rice, viva Vegas roll, shrimp coconut roll. I asked for substitutions because I'm allergic to avocado and they did a great job. The best place for a group with some who do and some who don't like sushi! Normally I would be skeptical of a place trying to specialize in more than 1 area but this restaurant does both sushi and Thai very well!! We were pleasantly surprised with the flavor, quality, and presentation of all our dishes. We tried a variety of the specialty rolls and 3 Thai dishes. I went in on a Tuesday night. I saw several reviews saying that this restaurant is usually really full, but there were lots of empty tables at that time, and it didn't take very long for my orders to arrive either. I LOVED the Pad kee Maow. The flavor was on point. Even the onions by themselves tasted so good. It's my favorite thai noodle dish in Utah so far. The green curry was alright, not sure if the pad kee maow was so good that the curry was very average compared to it. I also got the Something Right 69 Roll. I was slightly disappointed. It was nothing special; wish there were more soft shell crab--I felt like it got overpowered by all the other ingredients in the roll. Fish was not that fresh. This roll was not worth $16. The environment was clean. Service was quick, but the servers didn't seem very friendly. I don't think I'll be back for the sushi, but I'd love to try more Thai dishes, and I'll definitely be back for the Pad kee maow!! (Pad kee maow itself would've earned it 5-star. My group and I had a pretty good experience at Bangkok Wasabi. To start things off, they don't take reservations so it's first come first serve. We checked in with a worker, but he didn't ask us for our name or write any information down so I guess they just remember the order of people? We didn't have to wait too long, maybe 5-10 minutes, but it took a while for a waiter to take our orders (waited 20 minutes). Appetizers came out quickly and I got the crab ragoons. They may look a little over fried, but I thought they were really good. The filling to wrapper ratio was also well measured. I just hate when it's mostly wrapper with a dollop of filling. Two dishes came out before the other two, which was a bit awkward. They initially brought us the wrong plate and then took it back. Once everyone got their order, food was great. I will note, someone at the table ordered a level 4 spicy and said it was extremely spicy. For my main I got the chicken pad kee maow. Flavor wise it was really good. The noodles were a little overcooked and it wasn't at all spicy like the menu indicated, but nothing a little chili flakes couldn't fix. The chicken pad Thai was really on the sweet side, but the noodles were cooked perfectly. This also wasn't spicy like requested, but again....chili flakes. Service is a tad on the slower side, but our waiter was pretty attentive to refilling waters. They do close a bit early for my preference at 9:30pm on a Friday night, and aside from some minor service mishaps it was a nice dinner. read more

However, visiting on a Thursday night, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of groups that came in. There isn't good Thai food in Utah County. None. We've tried it all. Then we tried Bangkok Wasabi. This place makes excellent Thai food. You can taste the wok char on the food. Their spice levels are actually spicy. They offer sushi as well, which is a strange fusion, but the sushi isn't bad. We've had all of the curry, dishes and many of the noodles and none of them have disappointed us. I was a little bit, disappointed by the Tom Ka soup when we got it. It was overly reduced and way too salty and thick. Tom Ka should be light and fragrant. We also tried the mango sticky rice, dessert, and it was very strange. The rice was very hot, which made the mangoes warm and instead of being sweet and tasting like sugary coconut. There was a strange oily flavor to it. The service is fantastic. The servers are so friendly and humble and helpful. They bow when they serve you which I don't expect at all, but I find it to be so charming Thai culture is just that: super humble and kind. I love that they bring that to their restaurant . I'm not someone who cares very much about service and so I don't mention it very much in my reviews, but it has to be mentioned here. My son had the same and he agreed that it was just too sweet with not enough spice. My wife had the Pad Kee Maow and loved it. Another in our group ate the Mongolian beef and raved about it. The filling was seasoned well and had lots of crab and green onions. The chicken pad Thai was a perfect texture and had great flavor. It was served with lemon instead of lime like I'm used to, but it worked so well! The chicken green curry was a bit more spicy than I expected, but the flavor was exceptional, I love the thin bamboo shoots, and the curry itself wasn't too thick. 100% would recommend, and we will be coming back. This may have been a one-off, so take with a grain of salt....I'd been wanting to try this place for awhile based off the reviews and finally got a chance to stop by for lunch. I started off with a few sushi rolls and all were excellent and the lunch prices were an excellent value. Nothing to complain about. I also ordered a yellow curry lunch special which came out after the sushi. It did take awhile which wasn't a big deal, but after putting the curry on the rice, I took my first bite and right off was surprised to find the temperature was barely warm. My first bite had a piece of chicken and immediately the texture felt off. I spit it out and sure enough it was glossy and pink. For such thinly sliced chicken, I was super surprised it wasn't fully cooked. I told the waiter and he said they would remake the dish and proceeded to take my plate away. A few minutes later I was brought a small container of chicken curry, but it was missing the potatoes and bell pepper like my original dish had....it was just chicken and curry sauce. Also no rice. I asked the waiter for a to-go thing of rice and he seemed very confused as to why I was asking for rice? Well because the dish I paid for had rice and it wasn't my fault the chicken was raw. He was polite about it, but just took some explaining before he granted my request. The replacement curry was fine, with the exception of no potatoes, bell peppers, or peanuts in it. It was an odd disappointment to such a great start after the sushi. Time will tell if I end up giving it a 2nd chance. read more

Any time I see a restaurant that offers cuisine from multiple cultures, in this case, Thailand, Japan and China, I'm a bit wary. I have flashbacks to Babu Barat's Dream Cafe on Seinfeld. Bangkok Wasabi, however, manages to pull them all off with great success. The Thai food easily beats out local establishments like Spicy Thai and Thai Drift. It is prepared fresh and can be ordered with just the right amount of spice (1-5 stars). The Massaman, Pad Thai, Pad Kraprow, Chicken Skewers with Peanut Sauce, and Egg Rolls are amazing. The Sushi is better than Happy Sumo. It can take a bit longer because it seems there is only one Sushi Chef, but it is worth the wait. Try the Red Dragon Roll, The Crunch Roll or the Sassy Roll. The servers are always polite and welcoming. Service around lunch time can be a bit slow - I think they need to hire more help - and the half-price Sushi at lunch brings a fairly good-sized crowd. The restaurant is clean and you may hear some tunes that you haven't heard since the late 80's. Overall a great place to have a good meal. read more

The inside is super cute (definitely recommend calling ahead if you have a largish party). I've gotten sushi here as well as the yellow and green curry. Orem, Utah Bangkok wasabi gets excellent reviews on Yelp. I ordered the yellow chicken curry. It has red peppers, onions, potatoes, and chicken. The price is $12.95 seems very reasonable. My husband ordered the salmon baked roll. Crab and cream cheese are in the center of the roll and it is topped with salmon and eel sauce. While waiting for our food I will give you a description of the restaurant. As you walk in the waiter stands close to the door and does a slight cultural bow to say hello. The brick wall to the left is painted white with two elephant tapestry hanging. There is also a television that shows different video pictures of places in Thailand. The restaurant itself has five tables down the center of the restaurant with about eight booths with green vinyl. There's also seating at the sushi bar as well as up against the brick wall. The place is very clean. You can see the people cooking as the kitchen is open. My only concern is the sushi chef keeps touching his face with his gloves to itch or rub his face. Yet he does not change his gloves. The water is served in a glass goblet. You also have nice chopsticks, a fork and a glass dish to use for your dining experience. The food arrived. My yellow curry is spicier than medium, so if you wish to have it not spicy order the mild. The red peppers must be puréed. The onions are sliced into quarter inch pieces and random slices. The potato has a beautiful ridged cut. However, the potatoes were inconsistently cooked, some to perfection while others were slightly hard. The chicken is extremely tender and plenty. Lots of curry sauce. And accompany it with plenty of jasmine rice. The flavor is excellent just remember how spicy you truly want it. The sushi is presented beautifully with ginger, wasabi, and an edible flower. The sushi has good flavor, but it is not rolled tightly. Unfortunately, we had to use a fork to eat it as it fell apart with my chopsticks. When you leave the restaurant, the waiter runs over to the door to open it for you. Nice touch! The music is perfect. Soft, not loud and serves its purpose as background music where you can still have a conversation. I will definitely come back to this restaurant when I pass through town. If I lived here, I would certainly frequent it much more often. read more
