I told them at the end it hurt and they just said "OK" and acted like they couldn't speak any English until I pulled out Google translator and then magically they could. They confirm at the start of your massage that the pressure type you chose will best suit your needs. All throughout the service, they check in to make sure you are comfortable and not in pain. She could sense all the knots up there and worked through them all. So I wanted a medical massage and my chiro recommended this place.I have spinal stenosis in my neck and my lumbar it turns out is also jacked (OA and/or degenerative disc) and I'm only 44 and very active, so I have serious issues with stiffness and pain. I figured I'd give these guys a shot last Thursday, they had great reviews from folks with sinilar issues and the other medical massage places want to go through consultations and the sales pitch shit, so I said screw it and went here. The girl literally walked on my back, no joke, they have actual bars on the ceilings for this too. Within about 10 minutes i began to actually relax!! She kneed me, did these folding poses, etc and it was uncomfortable initially but I folded like a cheap suit, AMAZING!! I had one other Thai massage last year and it was good, but nothing like this. I only got the 60 minute session, but afterward I could barely drive, I was that relaxed. I went home and got my foam roller, etc out and there were NO knots or tender spots...none!! I got the daily special from open till 2PM and it was only $70. I was so elated that I gave her $120, she looked at me and I said " you earned it" smiled and walked out. Un friggin believable!! I've had massage envy ( waste of time, doesn't do shit) in the past and was dismissive, but not this time. My husband is like " you HAVE to go back" so I am next week. Once a month along with my Chiro ....I feel different already. In fact my husband wants one(?) If you're scared, don't be, I don't have any idea as to how this worked, maybe her feet were sprinkled with pixie dust, but it wasn't painful for me and that did the job! They do relaxation stuff too, but never have I experienced ANYTHING like this, it's that good. Major thumbs up to the Sawadee crew!! After just experiencing it myself, I can see why all the 5 star reviews. Rose was able to provide one of the best massages I've ever had. I was really tense from work and muscles were in pain. After an hour and a half it was all gone. I still move my arm now in disbelief that I was in pain for so long, and how quickly she healed it. Definitely will be back. read more

I've had high quality, cheap massages in Thailand, India and Indonesia- I never get massages back home because they're expensive and inevitably not as good as what I could get in Asia. I got a Swedish massage and my husband got a more intensive Thai stretching massage- both at 10am on a Monday (vacation) so we paid only $60 each. This place is totally a hidden gem. I called last minute (6pm ish) to see if they had any appointments available & surprisingly they did. They were able to squeeze my friend & I in for a 1 hour Thai Combo massage. My friends & I usually go to the Chinese massage parlors. They're usually cheaper but the quality of the massage is hit or miss. Thai massage parlors are usually a bit pricier because of the quality of their service. I usually opt for the deep tissue, hurt me good kinda massage. They are located about a block or 2 from Pacific beach caddy corner of Grand Ave on Bayard St. They have 2 dedicated parking spots on their private lot as well as street parking. When we got there, we checked in at their main office & completed an little intake form. They then escorted us into a mini cottage with 2 massage beds inside. The room was quaint, clean, serene, warm, & aromatic. The room even had it's own private restroom. My friend was totally stoked with his massage as he's never had a Thai massage before. He works out allot and has sciatic nerve pain. The lady who worked on him made him feel like a whole new person again. He was able to twist, bend & even touch his toes...something he hasn't been able to do for a while. Me on the other hand work on the computer allot so all my knots are in my neck & shoulder area. The guy who worked on me was able to identify and relieve all the knots & tensions on my body. My massage was so good that I had the best sleep ever when I got home. I even woke up early & felt super refreshed. PLEASE NOTE: The price for their Thai Combo massage is increasing from $70/hour to $79/hour starting March 15th. Bottom line, price aside...Sawadee Thai TOTALLY delivered from the beginning, middle, to the end. I highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a great massage. The BEST! My boyfriend and I were in PB for a wedding two years ago and stumbled upon this place. First time I was in a state of bliss. I fell asleep. I was so relaxed I thought about it for a year. We went back a year later, no way it's as good (because you know most massage places aren't consistent) nope. AMAZING again! I fell asleep but was woken up by my boyfriend falling asleep and snoring. This place is located right next to the beach, at the heart of PB. The inside was clean and modernly designed while making an effort to have as much of a traditional Thai look as possible. I called in a few days before to make a reservation for a couple. After reading some reviews I requested Oy to be my massage therapist. However when I arrived there they said Oy was not available. I didn't get any notice about this before my appointment. Also, it wasn't until I asked one of the ladies to make sure it was Oy who was seeing me that they told me about this. Now to the massage: when our massage was about to start, they asked what kind of massage we wanted. When I called, I repeated the date, time and type of massage I wanted twice. I told them we want deep tissue and they seem surprised and asked if we still wanted stretching. I had to make it clear that we still do. Anyways, some stretches I got were good and my massage therapist was precise with small muscle groups. However, with mentioning that I wanted deep tissue as well as choosing "firm" on my check-in paper, I did not get as much pressure as I'd like. My back was just rubbed back and forth a lot with oil like a spa place. She did a good job getting my tight pec muscle and calves though. My boyfriend said the therapist who worked on him pushed hard into his belly button that was somewhat painful but also weird. He also said he was very firm but lacked precision so he stepped on his joints instead of his muscles which wasn't pleasant. Lastly, the room was a bit too cold for both of us. Overall I'd say the quality of the massage was 3/5 but the free hot stone with check-in, good location (if you like PB), and reasonable pricing bumps my review up to 4. read more

I arrived for my November 8 appointment for a 90 minute Thai and moderately deep tissue massage. My massage therapist, Cat expertly applied just the right amount of pressure to various tight muscles. Cat was both highly professional and highly skilled. Two VERY minor quibbles: One that my tight pectoralis muscles were not massaged. Second: I needed more stretching as in a typical Thai massage. Kinda of funny how that works out, your go to place is booked and you find a new go to place. We just got back for a trip to Thailand so Sawadee Thai massage was an easy second choice. Although it's a Thai massage place they do offer swedish massage. Thank goodness- we can't quite handle the Thai style massage! The staff and massuse are both very friendly. My massuse followed instructions to the T, medium pressure with longer focus on my arms and hands. I love hand massages and didn't think they could be this good! Seriously their technique was amazing. My arms felt so great after and I had a lot of pressure released. Also, I love the constant use of the hot towels. They mentioned if you check in on Yelp you get free hot stones which we will definitely do next time. The price is right and the massage is great!!
