A friend and I had planned to have sushi at a nearby restaurant, but the wait was too long, especially since she was facing a long drive home. So we wandered over to this Thai restaurant; it had a 4.7-star rating. Sometimes, we are just lucky. Even though it was early evening, the restaurant was still bright from sunlight streaming through the blinds. We were the first guests of the evening; the restaurant remained relatively empty during our visit. This is unfortunate, given the lovely meal we had. We took our time to review both the dinner selection and the specials after ordering the tofu Todd, fried tofu served with chili sauce. There were so many items I would order, crab rangoon, apple salad, all types of noodles, and peanut curry. I typically order Pad Thai, flat rice noodles with tofu, scrambled eggs, bean sprouts, and crushed peanuts. However, as a fan of all things pineapple, I went with the pineapple-curry seafood instead. It was fantastic, full of veggies (red and green bell peppers and onion) and seafood (shrimp, squid, and imitation crab) in a sweet-tasting, creamy sauce. My friend ordered the pad bai kra pow, an amazingly fragrant dish with basil, Thai chili peppers, and shallots, topped with a fried egg. It was served with either minced chicken or pork. I get my hair done at Salon Matisse, which is right next door. Today, the smell of the restaurant's food was wafting through the salon, so I decided to go there for lunch after I was done. It was a little after 1:00 and there were only 2 tables with people, which seemed kind of odd. I ordered hot tea, for which they charged $2. Not a lot, given what other restaurants charge for tea, but at most Asian restaurants, tea is complimentary. I ordered chicken pad thai, and I was told that they were including complimentary soup (which makes up for the charge for tea, I suppose). I got the Tom Yum soup, and it was very good. When my pad thai came, it tasted off; the peanuts were rancid. I mentioned it to the server and she said they fried them A WEEK AGO! No wonder they were rancid! She offered to have it remade, and I said ok & to leave the peanuts off. It was better the second time, but not the best I've had. It also seemed that the prices were kind of high for the lunch menu. While I thought the service was pretty good, I just was not impressed with the food, so I won't be coming back. read more

Unfortunately this place was a miss for me. I have tried them 4 times in the last 2 years because I really want to support them in the area. However, each time is not good. I think their biggest downside is the meat portion. They don't give enough meat in their food. Their flavor isn't bad, but for their prices, portions of meat and food should be a lot better. Just at lunch here. Absolutely amazing. The hot & sour soup was an amazing blend including spring onions and a little cilantro. Best I can recall having. Main dish was perfectly spiced at "Medium" and ample portion size to make me consider an espresso to make it through the afternoon. Also, the wait staff was so friendly and courteous and polite. Food was great, I order potato curry from they curry special with fried tofu and hot level spice, I liked the smoky flavor of potato. The hot level is not that spicy for me. The restaurant is almost full at the time we were there, due to limited staff we had to wait a bit to get the table and food. Overall I would look forward going to this restaurant again. read more

extremely horrible customer service! I placed an order on door dash which included an order of spring rolls. Only one spring roll came even though the picture on their website shows two. I called the restaurant and a girl answered. I asked when someone orders a spring roll how many come in the order? she said 1. I told her the picture on their website shows two but should be changed to show only 1 or in the description it should state you only receive 1. The girl said the picture is just for "presentation". I told her that's false advertising and it should be changed. she said okay and that was the end of that conversation...or so I thought. 2 minutes later I received a call from a random number. When I answered it another girl said she was calling from the restaurant and asked if I have a problem. I explained the situation again and she then told me "everyone who orders from our store knows you only get one spring roll and if not you can call with any questions". I told her that is a very rude and condescending thing to say since clearly not everyone knows this when their website is showing 2 spring rolls. she was talking in such a rude tone and when I told her not to talk to me that way since I wasn't being mean to her, she then hung up on me. I tried calling back and someone kept picking up the phone and hanging it up. This happened multiple times. All I was doing was suggesting they change their picture to show one spring roll or put in the description "one per order". Sawasdee feels like a hidden gem. They've got quality service, great prices, and good food in an easy and accessible location. What's not to like there? We got in around 6:30, but they weren't too busy and were sat immediately. I think they are family owned, and you can tell by the care they have for their customers. We decided to get the appetizer platter since it has spring rolls and chicken satay, something for everyone at the table. The spring rolls were nice and crunchy! I liked the peanut sauce, but I do wish it wasn't as creamy - the chicken had a good flavor as well, just a little dry for my liking. I also went and got the crab fried rice. It was so delicious, and I wish I could have eaten all of it, but the portion was huge! Easily shareable with the appetizer. I also got a Tom Ka soup - now that was the keynote of the night for me. Food has always been good at Sawasdee. Their prices were good and they gave discount for cash. Things have changed. Portions on an order made at 2:30PM have dramatically been reduces in size while evening prices have also been increased. So for a small portion of Pad Thai and a small portion on Drunken noodles it cost well over $30.00. This is over priced for approximately $2.00 worth of noodles. read more

Ordered take out by phone from here for the first time. Pad Almond Chicken no spice extra white rice - order was exactly correct. The gravy was a bit sweeter and soupier than I expected but still very tasty. The celery was missing, and there were much fewer ingredients in general than anticipated. I went with my 3 grand kids, 8, 10, 12 and they got my granddaughters order wrong. She ordered chicken, they gave her shrimp. Every meal comes with shrimp so we were confused at first. I don't understand the negative reviews. We are in here fairly regularly and have had consistent great experiences each time. The food is delicious with large portion sizes. I thought the amount of protein in each dish was normal and fair. The wait staff is very pleasant and attentive. We usually get the chicken pad Thai. Today I ordered the curry pad Thai and was not disappointed. So good. We also got the appetizer sampler and the coconut soup. Everything came out piping hot and fresh from the kitchen. I read some reviews and picked this Thai restaurant because we never ate there. Loved our waitress who at the door greeted us immediately. Asked for her recommendations for popular savory entrees. The appetized Rdr, Siam Rolls, were a big hit with my son and his grandmother. He thoroughly enjoyed his Drunken Noodles and after I tasted it I see why. Rich unami flavors with a medium heat. Grandma had Pad Prik and thought it was a little too sweet. I had Pra Jien it was great. Red Snapper fried to perfection. Moist, meaty and a light seasoned crust. The brown sauce and white rice paired wonderfully. I recommend this restaurant as a casual dine in place. Food is always better when it is served as soon as it is ready. read more

We live in the neighborhood so this is our main stay for getting excellent Thai food. All the coconut curry dishes are amazing. My kids love the chef special fried rice as well. Long-time customers...never again! I was really unhappy the last time we ordered from Sawasdee. The place just didn't have it together. I called five times and no one answered, and I got concerned that perhaps they'd shut down, so I decided to go there myself to place an order. There were two people running it. And a little kid running around. Phones were ringing off the hook, announcing the callers' names yet no one was answering. I waited 10 minutes to place my order and 30 minutes for our order to be made, which turned out to be mediocre at best. I vowed not to go back. But tonight, my husband was right by the restaurant (we live a good 20 minutes away) and I figured I'd give them one last chance, maybe it was just an off night, so I placed an order online. I realized I'd left out the protein on the meal I wanted in my order, so I called the restaurant to ask if they could add it in. I spoke with someone right away to add to my order. She was unfamiliar with their online ordering, so she put me on hold to go ask someone else, then came back and asked what I wanted, and I reviewed the order with her, in addition to the newly added protein. Well, this took five minutes...and the order itself wouldn't be ready for another 35 because they were busy. So my husband waited to pick it up. Once he brought it home I realized that despite my call, they never added the protein, included ZERO white rice at all for any of our dishes (each meal comes with rice), and left out half of the vegetables in both our orders! We were basically given tubs full of sauce, peppered with a few vegetables or pieces of chicken (my husband was lucky). No spice, although requested. So, after all these years, I should have trusted my gut. We are done with this place. I don't know if there's new management or the owners just don't care. Want to stay in business? Get more help. How does this place still even exist? Plus they've raised their prices significantly. My suggestion is that you go elsewhere. Anywhere! Does anyone have any good thai to recommend?! read more

This is the second time in a month that we've ordered dinner from this restaurant. We've ordered food from this restaurant many many times in the past. The last two times we've gotten Penang curry. There was virtually no protein in the dish. It was broth and vegetables. My wife was supposed to have chicken and I was supposed to have squid. There was almost none either one of our dishes. David who is the new owner, knows thai dishes very well and is 2nd generation from Laos. He has special spices that cannot be grown here, flown in from Florida. The dishes are authentic Thai. Even though we all recognize the dishes, the difference is that they are more flavorful than most Thai restaurants in the metro area. I have been to many Thai restaurants and I rate this amongst the better ones. The Tom Yum Gai was the best thai soup I have had and the chicken sate is so flavorful.
