I was so hopeful of this place and was highly of disappointed. The food did not have any flavor to it at all. It was very bland. The soup has one wonton in it and the meat inside it has a strange smell and taste to it. Also it like it was old. The chicken did not have any flavor to it at all. The rice would have been great if the veggies weren't soggy tasting. I unfortunately just did not enjoy this place at all. And it sucks because the lady was so nice at the front desk too. read more

I always get a carryout that I order for both me and my friend. I take it to her in the nursing home. It is her big delight to get it once every two weeks she loves their vegetable chow mein so I ordered the same thing. I take it to her and we show lunch at the nursing home. This is her favorite Chinese Restaurant. She's been in this nursing home for over a year and this is the highlight of her day when I bring it to her. They are so courteous they always give me paper plates so it's easier for her to eat when we get there and she absolutely adores it. It's absolutely so good. This place is pretty decent American Chinese Food. It's one of the only ones in the area so the location is kind of a go to for anybody that lives in a 5 mile radius. The prices are a bit high for some of the items but give them the location. I'm sure rent isn't cheap. So my go to here are usually the shrimp fried rice or the chicken fried rice. The baby shrimp fried rice, and particular is well-made, and I usually get a quart, which is about 16 bucks, which is a lot for rice, and a few shrimp when you think about it, but when you had a long day at work, and you don't feel like cooking, well, it fills you up and does so in a tasty fashion. The chicken fried rice is good but you don't really get as much balance of flavor as you do with the shrimp making a significant impact in contrast to the rice where as we are now chicken takes on the flavor of whatever it's cooked in the other item on the menu that I would recommend is the sweet and sour chicken. The sizes are pretty good it's deep fried and with a pint of white rice. The one item I will not recommend is the orange chicken because it is literally all bread and the chicken is so chewy that it's barely edible. I ordered it once and since that experience would not ordered again. This place is good for to go and usually has your order ready within 20 minutes or so which is always a bonus with to go. The inside of the restaurant has painted a nice blue collar. It's got modern touches to it including modern hanging glass. Lights and booths are pretty roomy. I'm personally never eaten inside, but I have sat on a chair, waiting for my order to come through and thought the setting was pleasant and didn't suffer from that situation that can occur at a lot of restaurants where you're like this place doesn't look great. Should I really be eating the food here? So all in all I think this place is worth a try depending on what you get. I've had their lo mein noodles as well. They're pretty good not exactly the texture that I personally like when it comes to lo mein but the flavor of the noodles is pretty good. read more

Szechuan Empire I ordered through door dash and picked up myself. The pick up was easy and I'm glad I got carry out instead of Dine-in it's sooo small in there. I ordered a spring roll and the seafood delight dinner which came with rice and soup. The spring roll I will not order again... the dough was too thick and not crispy at all it was chewy. The seafood delight was pretty good once I added salt and pepper. The soup I got with my dinner was the Wonton soup. Uh it had 1 wonton in broth with green onion. Now, I saw only celery and SHREDDED carrots - too lazy to cut carrots! + it was undercooked after waiting 40+ mins. Service: took 45mins but they told me 15mins. I have been craving some good Chinese food forever. With the lockdown I haven't ordered out much. Well, thank you Szechuan Empire;) yum! I am a General Tso junkie. But I am usually disappointed. No spice, goopy sauce and chicken fried so hard-it's powder. Well not this time! The chicken was fresh and moist with a spicy well flavored sauce. Not overly salted and the sauce wasn't laden with cornstarch or corn syrup. I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. My friend and I wanted Chinese for lunch, and our normal places were closed on Mondays so I took to Yelp and found Szechuan Empire. I ordered the general tso lunch combo which came with a soup and spring roll for $8.75. I loved my General tso chicken, because it was the lightly battered chicken breast instead of the heavily battered stuff at other places. My friend got the sesame chicken, which I tried, and it was also delicious. The sauces for both were very similar, but the General tso was sweeter. We're so glad we found this place! This is going to be our new go-to Chinese place for affordability, deliciousness, and portion size! read more

What a huge disappointment. We stopped in for a light lunch, but things went downhill after the green tea! We both ordered soup. The two soups were wonton and hot and sour. We also ordered vegetable spring rolls and my fiancé ordered chop suey. Neither of the soups had any flavor and that isn't an exaggeration. Both were inedible. The server appropriately removed them from the bill. The two spring rolls were disgusting. The scant amount of cabbage and carrots were literally mush and there was more air in the center than filling. We ate neither of them. The chop suey came out and frankly I have never seen this dish without a large amount of bean sprouts. There were hardly any. What made it worse was that the sauce was laden with sugar. I have never had sweet chop suey in my life. Bottom line, this is the worst Asian food I have ever eaten. Ever. On a positive note, the green tea was very good. read more

We just moved here and were looking for a good Chinese food place for carry out. This place is incredible. We called for pick up and the wait was super short -- the owner even stayed behind a bit to give us our food because it was close to 9pm. Super fresh tasting, great food! I ate here last night. I have no idea how so many people have rated this place with 4 or 5 stars. The only reason they even get 2 stars from me, is for the fact that they are a Chinese restaurant that serves alcohol, and they had a decent spring roll. I ordered the almond chicken combination dinner plate. It clearly stated in the menu that it was breaded. I asked for it unbreaded, which is how they served it to me, but about half of the chicken was undercooked badly. The egg drop soup I had was bland. I barely had started eating my soup when they brought my dinner out. That's a nice sign that the food you're about to eat definitely hasn't been prepared to order. Not that I expect that from every Chinese restarurant I step into, but still. The spring roll was a nice break from an egg roll. I will say that was good. Also, they had a nice beer selection, with a bunch of Japanese beers. The service was far from adequate. All of the waitstaff sat around a table talking, and I had to flag them down for more water or for anything else I needed, including the bill. They never once came to ask how I was doing. Don't waste your time with this place. I'd take the extra 5 minutes to drive over to Ka Hing at Pontiac Trail and West Park Dr, or hell, even Boon Kai in Walled Lake. Its been some time since I've been in Szechuan Empire, when it was still at the end of strip mall, where the Penara now sits. It use to be the best Chinese place around, but its not anymore. Maybe my tastes have changed and I prefer a more spicey Thai cuisine, but the food was bland. We went for the combo dinners, that included soup and an egg roll. The Hot n Sour soup was OK - nothing special, and the main meal was the same. But we didn't even take a left overs home. Service was fine, but there was only customers at 3-4 tables, in a restaurant that has 20+ tables. They seem to be doing a fair amount of take out food. read more

It was about 1230pm and we walked in and was able to sit down anywhere as we were the only customers. we all ordered from the lunch menu - my pal Brian - sweet n sour chicken, fried rice, spring roll, coca-cola. my pal Erin - sesame chicken - mild - fried rice, spring roll, coca-cola. me - chicken lomein - spicy, hot sour soup, ice tea. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The pops were in 20oz bottles ice cold. My ice tea tasted fresh brewed. I added a little splenda and it was perfect. There really wasn't anything wrong except my food was not spicy enough. I've been in a hot spicy food kick for several months. I asked for hot sauce and the waiter brought out a bowl of some oily hot pepper sauce in a bowl. It was very very spicy and kicked up the flavor of my lomein. Brian & Erin commented on the peas in their fried rice. They liked em, I usually despise Peas in Rice. Don't know why Chinese eateries put Peas in fried rice. Other than that it was a good lunch. The Waiter - some chinese lady, seemed like she was the manager. Only other worker was a chinese guy who I assumed was a manager or owner perhaps. Pleasant Chinese restaurant in a strip mall. Good food. Nice ambiance. I had the Mushu Pork and Won Ton soup. Delish. The portions were huge. One entree could easily be shared by two people.
