Service with a Smile at Sawgrass Tavern Last Sunday, my golf group and I (all 14 of us!) had lunch at Sawgrass Tavern in The Villages after our round. When I made the reservation, they planned to split us into two tables, which was fine -- but once we arrived, one of the golfers suggested pushing the tables together. So we did. They seated us in the spacious back room, probably thinking we'd be a lively bunch and wanting to spare the other guests. The Scottish décor -- a holdover from when it was McGrady's -- gave the room a cozy, fun feel. Our server, Georgia, was fantastic. Great sense of humor, knew the menu well, and handled our group like a pro. When we told her each couple needed separate checks, she immediately assigned numbers to keep everything straight. Smart, simple, and flawless. I ordered the Reuben, and I couldn't have made a better choice. Absolutely delicious. My spouse ordered the same, and once everyone's meals arrived, the whole room went quiet -- always a sign of happy diners. Even the sides impressed us, and my fries were perfectly crisp. I usually mix hot sauce with my ketchup and bring my own, but I forgot this time. I asked if they had Cholula; Georgia said they only carried Tabasco. But when my meal came out, she brought ketchup and a bottle of Cholula. She laughed and said, "The manager had Cholula, so I took it -- but don't tell him." Everyone had a great time socializing and enjoying their meals. Sawgrass Tavern definitely earned a spot in our future plans -- whether it's just my spouse and me or the whole golf crew again. read more

We were greeted by two nice ladies so from the get go the service was wonderful. We were seated in an industrial yet cozy outdoor area. Our server I think Amanda was very kind and helpful with ordering what tasted very good. The Cobb salad was more than I had hoped for, fresh and cold and delicious. We went to the restaurant on 5/23 to check out their breakfast fare it took a long time to be served. over an hour to get our food we were there about 10:30 AM the special was very disappointing the brisket sausages we definitely reheated several times and overly salty The home potatoes were round patties and rubbery tasting of salt and lots of onion powder and appeared to have been fried a couple of times The apples in the waffle entree were exceedingly sweet with no flavor but sugar and reminiscent of canned pie filling We have eaten there before and the food was much better but it wasn't yesterday won't be going back soon read more

The food for the whisky tasting dinners was delicious I highly recommend this restaurant wish they did more of the whisky dinners there so much fun meeting new people eating drinking and conversation that's what life should be more like and this restaurant does that read more

I was really disappointed when McGrady's was turned into Sawgrass Tavern. And it has been over a year of them struggling to make it better but I think they're achieving it now! Total failure ! Wife had Tavern stew. Reports it was tasteless. She suggested a little Guinness would have helped. Paid $18.99. Ouch. My $15.99 Haddock sandwich was minuscule. If it had 3 ounces of meet, I'd be shocked. The fish didn't even fill my bun. This was our first visit since the ownership switched. We are marking it off our food radar. Bad food, overpriced and not worth a return trip. My salad came a few minutes after my sandwich. Not a big deal, but our server remarked, "we are a little behind in our salad department." Huh? This is our second time in this restaurant and we started with appetizer, spinach & artichoke dip, the dip was delicious, the toasted bread (4) pieces is not enough, they brought chips to replace. Soggy & sparce Reuben. Worst service at bar seating ever. Never had but a couple decengt experiences and those were when seated in the dining area. Service at the bar is the worst of the worst. I try to avoid stopping here and then think I'll give it another try just to have same very poor experience all over again read more

Stopped at one of our favorite FMK restaurants last night. Sat at the bar and got caught up in the Tampa Bay vs Red Wings game. Bartenders offered last call at 8:50 PM. At 9:00 PM all of the TV's went off. Everyone asked, "what happened"? A rude manager told everyone, "that we close at 9:00 PM and the TV's are turned off at 9:0 PM". We would have never ordered "last call" drinks if we knew you were turning off the TV's. Very disappointed! read more

This restaurant used to be called something else, I can't recall the name, but it is still on the roof of the building. None the less, it is a well decorated restaurant, near the town square. You can hear the live music, which happens every evening. The drinks aren't overpriced ($5.50/bottled beer), but they're not cheap either. Service was good. I ordered Salmon Wellington. It came with choice of two sides. I chose carrots and mashed potatoes. The vegetable and potato were tasty, but I found the salmon to be overbearing as it is served with a heavy garlic sauce. My friend ordered a burger and fries and said he was happy with it. read more

Went here for breakfast around 1130 took our orders we waited and waited an hour later we asked how much longer the waitress said she would check and came back said soon. Then they brought our food and said it was in the pass for 30 minutes. Now we had cold food, they didn't even warm it up and they should have offered compensation but all they did was take our drinks off. I usually tip well, my kids are in the industry but not this time. Never going back. Don't even want to give this place one star . read more

We went here years ago and was not impressed, but is since been bought out by FMK and the food was INCREDIBLE! We got the loaded potato soup, brisket chili, Pretzel Charcuterie Board and Caprese Flatbread. Very good prices, serving sizes and taste was AMAZING! We stopped at Sawgrass Tavern today when we were out exploring the area. We got there at 11:00 when they opened. Our server, who had short blond hair and a wonderful accent....didn't get her name, was very kind and attentive. I ordered the Rachael....a turkey, sauerkraut, Swiss and thousand island dressing on toasted rye. It was very good but could have used a bit more cheese and sauerkraut. I was impressed that they cooked their own Turkey breast there. The description of the sandwich says it was shaved, however it was sliced thick, which was great! Chunks of turkey breast! I had kettle chips which were made there, as my side which were also good. My husband had the fish and chips with fries and cold slaw. He was happy, however the cold slaw was your standard grocery store slaw, which is not a favorite. The atmosphere was nice too....sat outside and overlooked the square. Just dropped in while visiting the Villiages. The place has the ambiance and menu of an Irish pub. The full bar has several TVs with sports channels on. Staff is friendly and the service is quick. Food is high quality and reasonably priced. The square outside usually has live music, so you can try for outside seating, if it's available. Great for a dinner with your spouse, meet with friends, or just somewhere to go hang out. read more

The corn beef and cabbage was tasteless. The potatoes were plain boiled no flavor from the corned beef in them or the cabbage. The corned beef was cut with the grain so it was chewy and stringy. Service was very good, I just won't eat here. read more

I brought a visiting friend to the Sawgrass Tavern and was actually embarrassed at the poor quality of the food. He got Shepherd's Pie, which was just runny glop with peas. I got a dry, dry, dry burger. Tonight, I gave them another chance. The wings with garlic buffalo sauce were pretty good. The loaded baked potato was a joke. For $12, I expect a huge potato with a lot of toppings. What I was served was an ordinary sized potato, the same one you get at Wendy's for two bucks. The toppings were skimpy, but the real issue was what was under the toppings. The potato was brownish orange inside and tasted burnt. I showed it to the waiter who said "When we see that, we don't let it leave the kitchen." How do you cut a potato open and add toppings without seeing it? I have eaten at several FMK restaurants and paid outrageous prices for disappointment each time. Now I'm done with them. read more
