The bar itself was quiet, cozy and clean. Above all, I had lost my CC there, so I called them to see if it was in fact there. It was. Don't bother! The food is absolutely horrible! Chicken tender appetizer was 3 tenders for $14.95 barely drizzled in hot sauce - that is almost $5 for each tender and they were on the small side. The burgers tasted like it came from a bag of off brand tenders from WalMart! The burger was dry and overcooked - like a hockey puck. The bun was over toasted on one burger plate and not toasted at all on the other burger plate. The steak sandwich looked and tasted like mush. You are better off skipping the food at this bar and grill and stick with alcohol only. The service was awesome though! read more

O'Keef's is a destination spot! It has been run by three generations of O'Keef's and the pub is charming and well loved-you can feel it. It is a perfect Irish Pub, you can close your eyes and think you are across the sea. The food, in a word, AMAZING!! We split the salmon appetizer and it was the best cured salmon I've ever had. My husband is not a fan of cured salmon and he enjoyed every bite. He got the Ruben sandwich and I got the tuna melt and both were just incredible. The menu is extensive and most likely covers anything you might crave. The service is on the spot and we felt at home. It's the two of us and we sat at the bar and met some really nice people, friendly and open. I had it in my mind to try this place some day, and the day I picked to do it, Tavares was having a downtown festival that I was not aware of. So the place was crazy crowded, and it took a really long time for things to get to the table. They get a pass for that, under the circumstances. Excellent people watching ( we sat on the patio ). Very good food . Kinda expensive. We sat outside, service kinda slow , but they were busy . People next to us had a dog , I kept seeing dog hair floating around , they would pet him and the sun was shining through there and the hair was everywhere . If you don't mind that you are ok . There were actually three dogs in outdoor area at the time . So dog friendly , the waitress even brought water for their dog . Service just hit rock bottom ! Embarrassing that we brought friends - previously it was great but now worse than bad

We've been customers for many years. We always eat dinner at the bar, usually with the same bartender, so he knows us. Tonight we did the same. When we got the check, there was a $.50 charge on the bill and we decided to ask what it was for. The bartender said "extra salad dressing"(we were given a very small plastic cup of extra ranch dressing). I said "that's tacky" and he simply turned and walked away. That was unpleasant. I asked another man behind the bar for the manager, and the man I asked said he was the owner. When we asked why they charged us for this, he said "you want your 50 cents back?!" We said no but after further quick discussion he said "here's your 50 cents back!" and slammed two quarters onto the bar. We paid the check and left the quarters there. They ruined an evening out for us, and a somewhat regular choice for dining out. read more

Though in honesty I didn't stay long, it was overall a good adventure! Family stayed there as I decided to take a walk all around Tavares. Stayed there after my walk and had some, from what I remember, free water. We were the last ones there! Went here on a Saturday night. They have a nice patio, but we dined inside. Decent selection of beer. Server was friendly and attentive. I had the mushroom Swiss burger and steak fries. It was delicious. Plenty of mushrooms and cooked perfectly to order. The bun was soft and fresh and the fries were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. My only gripe and reason for 4 stars are it's pretty expensive. $14.50 for a burger and fries and Angry orchard bottles were $5.95 each. I will be back, but not frequently at those prices. read more

This was our first time here and we are definitely going back. At first glance the place was empty only one couple and the rest was empty so we had our doubts. But as soon as we stepped inside the service was amazing. Our server was extremely friendly and welcoming and also super informative. I do think that if you like sissy drink or cocktails this place is not it for soft drinks. It was explained by our servers that Irish drinks are super strong and mostly bitter. Over all I tried one drink that suited my taste for the most part. We then ordered the fried fish and shrimp which was delicious. I ordered the steak sandwich with a ribeye the actual steak was very bland and needed some seasoning. The ambiance is very romantic, peaceful family friendly and the service is amazing. Hello fellow Yelpers! I am back! I decided to stay local for this review. Let's start with the ambiance. O'Keefes was nothing extraordinary and satisfied the atmosphere for your typical Irish pub. It appeared clean and the lighting was okay. We had lunch around 3:00pm, which was not busy at all. We weren't greeted immediately, but didn't have to wait too long before we seated ourselves and had a waitress assigned to our table. Service: Our server was nice and she was attentive in making sure we had drinks and anything else we needed. She wasn't overbearing and checked in appropriately. Food: For starters we ordered the potato skins with bacon and cheese. It was good, but did have some burnt ends. The flavor was good and the bacon was cooked perfectly enough. I have to admit, I was impressed by the cheese pull since a lot of times you don't often see that with potato skins. The potato skins were cut thinner than normal potato skins, but they were still good. I did like how they put two servings of our cream, so each person had one of their own. For the entrees I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with steak fries, cooked medium. My wife ordered the Rueben with steak fries and our daughter ordered the grilled chicken Cesar salad. The burger was wonderful. It was cooked to perfection and the steak fries were nice and fresh. Each bite of the burger was juicy and flavorful. Definitely made my tastebuds dance. As for the Rueben, it was nothing other than your simple Rueben. It was good, but it didn't stand out. The Cesar salad was more on the disappointment side. Our daughter said the chicken was a bit chewy and cold and the salad was on the warm side. Even though I trusted her judgment, I had to try it for myself. The chicken was definitely chewy and I felt as if it was one of those pre-made grilled chickens in a bag. The salad itself was a tad soggy and did not have a crunch to the lettuce. It seems simple enough, but salad can't be served when they aren't fresh or when it's been sitting in dressing. She took a few bites, but called a quits. We ended up skipping dessert, so no review on that. Sorry! O'Keefes got 4 stars because of the burger. I would highly recommend giving this place a shot. Keep in mind, this was solely based on my opinion and that alone. Some may prefer the Rueben over the burger and some may say the salad was great. I have no doubts there. By sharing my own experience, I really do hope people give this place a shot and make their own judgement as to their experience. I am just guide to help make decisions and hopefully help small and local businesses thrive. And if not, hopefully help with constructive criticism so they can thrive. All love. Went there courtesy of Rusty Anchor dinner cruise from Mount Dora on the other side of the lake. I had the French dip wife had mildly blackened burger. Must have been at least 12 ounces of meat on my sandwich and wife's burger was great as well. Cooked just right. Had also ordered the potato soup which we shared as there was enough for two in the bowl. If I lived in the area I'd go back all the time as the service was great too. Went for dinner last night in the middle of BooFest.BooFest is the town of Tavares Halloween Festival that takes over the downtown and is heavily attended.As such this restaurant (being smack dab in the center of the party)was a bit crowded. I was seated right away but understandably;service was very slow. The food once arrived after about a 40 minute wait was very good. I had to hunt down a staff member for my bill when I was done. Friends of ours keep telling us how much they love this place so we decided to check it out. Love the vibe and decor inside and immediately went to the bar. Not having drinks tonight but we typically get better service and like chatting with the bartenders. Menu was a mixture of bar food and staple Irish food. I got the corned beef dinner with cabbage and mashed potatoes. I have to say, it was pretty bland overall and meat was sliced so thin. Just wasn't what I was expecting and potatoes were definitely instant which is a complete disappointment. We did get the fried pickles as an appetizer and they were some of the best I've had. Tried a bite of my boyfriends Ruben and it was really good. He loved his food and the steak fries it came with. We would definitely return and try some different items. Always amazing food! We have been to O'Keefes many times over the years and the food is consistently delicious. For dinners we get steaks and they are great! The broccoli is a great side in place of potatoes, but the colcannon potatoes are hard to pass up. Nice atmosphere inside or you can sit outside when the weather is nice. I went here with my husband and father in law, I was honestly not expecting much, but I was blown away by the quality and taste of the food. We had the pub fare fish, clam and shrimp combo. We have been coming to this place for over a year and spent at least $100 every week. Today we had two appetizers, potato skins, shrimp, had three drinks each and ordered haddock fries well done and large Caesar salad got home , the salad barely covered the bottom of the styrofoam, there we're exactly 15 pieces of fries limp an cardboard like , 17 ketchup packets , one for each fry to mask the taste. The fish was overcooked limp and un edible. When I looked at the bill there was no breakdown just a receipt with department but no explanation. O'Keefe's is a true Irish Pub first, and restaurant second. I can't truthfully comment on their service as a restaurant (because I've only gone there for drinks), but I can give them a glowing review for their performance as a pub. It's a family-owned business that's been a Lake County favorite since the 80's. It's located in the beautifully-renovated lakefront Tavares area (across from Wooton Park on Lake Dora). They've got friendly service, a variety of brews (on tap and in bottles), and great pub fare. There are few places better to grab a pint with your mates! Again, I can't comment on their performance as a restauraunt, only because I haven't gone there for food yet (unless you consider beer a meal). BUT, if their service as a pub is any indicator, I'm sure it can't be bad. read more
