We have dined here and ordered take out over a dozen times. if i could give it 4.5 stars; I would. 5 stars would have to be a once in a yr experience. I am addicted to dolmades, and I only know one place with better dolmades (in Clarendon at much higher price than grapevine). The homemade pastitsio is very good. I would prefer a slightly modified sauce but still think it is very very good. I certainly do NOT go to a restaurant for bread. But Their Greek style break is very good and excellent for dipping into the lemon (or other) sauces. Prices are very good considering the quality is excellent. The place itself is informal. Clean with an open kitchen (which i like very much prefer). Also very good for takeout. Have not tried many other of their dishes because i love the dolmades and pastitsio so much. read more

Absolutely do not go here. I was here with my finance ordered two entrees, when her meal came she tasted it and told me it was bad. I then tried it and agreed, so I called over the owner to which she said that's impossible that she tasted the food mind you she's probably in her late 70s early 80s. She told me it was our imagination and told me I needed to take it home. This was probably due to her, not wanting to make a scene in her own restaurant. The prices are pretty good on most things, whether it's appetizers or whatever. Plenty of appetizers. Salads are good at lunch, or whenever. It's about $7 for the Greens Salad. Pretty simple one with mixed greens, and there's a light balsamic dressing, along with peppers and tomatoes. It's about $7 for the Hummus. This is rich and creamy and comes with a good amount of pita triangles. Chill atmosphere that makes a good place for casual Greek food. It's got lots of traditional items. I had to experience their Avgolemono (lemon, chicken & rice) and the flavor did not disappoint! The food here is delicious! I always go home with a doggie bag so I can enjoy more later. Walk in, place the order at the counter, and sit while you wait for the delivery of your food. It's very efficient. There are glasses and lemons for water and iced tea. Water is free, but all other drinks you purchase (including bottles of soda). Stopped for lunch with friends and we really loved the food. Had Mediterranean chicken salad which was like salad nicoise except with chicken. I know I will be coming back for this. An overall disappointment. We are native Chicagoans who flew in from L.A. for a memorial service and were looking forward to great Greek food. This place had good reviews and was close to our hotel, so we figured, why drive all the way to Greektown (Taylor and Halsted area) when we could eat here? BIG MISTAKE. The woman at the counter was curt, but I figured, hey, as long as the food is good, who cares, right? Unfortunately, the food was not good. My husband's Greek chicken was lukewarm, but okay. But my plate was terrible. I ordered the combo plate of pastitsio, spanakopita, and dolmades. The pastitsio was a square of overcooked noodles, no meat, topped with what tasted like a thin layer of ricotta (NOT a thick custardy layer of bechamel). Basically a mushy, flavorless square. The spanakopita has only one layer of filo on top, nothing in between or on the bottom, and the spinach tasted bitter. The dolmades was bland and had no lemon sauce as described. All of it tasted old and overcooked (but not quite reheated all the way through!) I tried to be polite, because I assumed this was a small, family-owned restaurant. I didn't want to tell the waiter I didn't like his mom's or grandma's cooking. I barely touched my food. When the waiter asked me if I wanted a take out container, I said "no." Then he asked me, "Was it just too much food for you?" I said, "no." He asked, "Were you just not in the mood?" "Um, no." "Not your thing?" Not my thing? Like their bad food is my fault? Or that I never had good Greek food before? Really? Now I had to be honest. "Um, I'm sorry, but since you keep prying . . . it's not very good." I waited for an apology. But instead, he stared at me silently for a moment, then said, "Can I take it away, or are you still nibbling?" Nibbling? Like it's my thing to nibble on bad food? "You can take it away," I said. And he did. My husband finished his cola while I waited for the waiter or his mother/grandma to come to our table and offer an apology, a free dessert, a coupon for 10% off our next meal, something, anything. We came here based on all the great reviews, but we were so disappointed. We ordered chicken carciofi (pasta dish) and chicken kabobs. The chicken carciofi was inedible. The pasta was so mushy it almost tasted water logged and the chicken, artichokes, and capers came on top cut up like baby food. It was bland and mushy. The chicken kabobs were at least edible, but the vegetables were so mushy they fell apart when picked up with the fork. The folks working were not friendly either. There are many good places in La Grange I recommend giving this a pass and trying those! read more

The Grapevine, oh sweet childhood. This has been a place we have gone for years and is always a fan favorite in my family. I cannot say that I have ventured out of my "regular" meals when it comes to the Grapevine since I stick to my good ole favorites. You can never go wrong with menu choices such as Vegetarian Moussaka or the Smoked Salmon and Penne Pasta. You can always compliment these meals with a nice red or white wine or a beer. Personally after a meal I love a warm cappuccino to call it a night and they never disappoint. I am writing this review for my boyfriend's mom, who never writes reviews and loves Grapevine but had such an incredible terrible experience here last time that she feels needed to be said. This review is for the service at the restaurant, not the food. On Monday June 26th my boyfriend's mom came here to get lunch to go when there wasn't anyone in the restaurant. The middle aged woman behind the register was extremely rude and seemed agitated by everything. While the food was preparing, my boyfriend's mom sat down to wait and was checking her emails on her phone. After what seemed like a much longer time waiting for the food than usual, she looked up and saw that the bag of food was just sitting there. Seriously great local spot. The more I come in here the more I appreciate it. Always some compelling specials that change daily. So clean and service is amazing. I can't figure out who are the owners but I get the feeling that they are there all the time. All the little things, like the sugar packets lining up perfectly on each of the tables really impress me. Be sure to try the lemon rice soup. It's amazing. Also the bread that comes with it, so good. Fresh, warm, crispy on the outside soft on the inside, covered with sesame seeds. And the ice tea is really really yummy. Grapevine is a family favorite. I've been ordering the same thing here for the past 12 years: the chicken, artichoke feta sandwich with lemon chicken rice soup as my side. It sounds simple, but this sandwich and soup combo is SO good that my mom and I try to get it once a week. Sometimes we eat out and sometimes we'll sit down in the restaurant. If you dine in you go up to the counter, place your order and then get a number and sit down to wait for your food to be brought out to you. The best part of dining in is the amazing bread they bring out while you wait for your food, oh and the amazing iced tea. We've ordered carry out from The Grapevine many times. Our first time dining in was with a family group for my son's birthday. I called ahead to make sure it was no problem to bring a birthday cake. There was a large table reserved for us. It is counter service, so we ordered at the counter, but the staff was so helpful with our meal service and also cake service. The menu is large and varied - great for a group. The avgolemono soup was excellent with authentic Greek bread. The other soups were delicious as well. The restaurant does a lot of take-out, so it was not overly crowded for a Saturday lunch, which was perfect for a group including children. read more

I really wanted to like this place since it's in a great location nearby, however both times I've gone the food was just mediocre and lukewarm. We were there last week with a few friends and on Google and Yelp their closing time states 9:00pm, however apparently they are only open until 8:00pm. The cashier let us in at 7:40pm and said the owner could accommodate our group of six, however we were rushed by the owner during our entire dining experience, and they she made us leave at 8:30pm. We were still walking out the door and they had even already begun vacuuming! I believe they broiled the chicken which made it flavorful and juicy. They give you a nice amount of food. The greens were plentiful. The tomato based sauce was delicious not over powering and just the right amount of seasoning. One thing is they placed sliced tomatoes on the plate I would have preferred they chopped them up on the salad. I don't like to work hard to eat. Adventure Fridays have tapered off due to my daughter being employed full time. (Yay!) But my sister and I have done a few Adventure Fridays, "sisters only" and when we went here it was to celebrate her birthday. I was glad to have her with me as the ordering, getting your drinks, procedure might have been confusing. We split the frittata and the appetizer platter and both were good but what we did not split was the soup. I was thrilled to have the delicious bowl of lemon chicken rice soup all to myself.
