    The Greens Salad And Hummus

Greek food isn't any better when it comes to LaGrange. It's about the only option really. The Grapevine can be somewhat limited in things. Mostly it has the more traditional items. Salads are a big thing, and they have plenty of pastas. A pretty casual place even though it looks kind of fancy. It's order at the counter, so it's certainly not upscale. The prices are pretty good on most things, whether it's appetizers or whatever. Plenty of appetizers. Salads are good at lunch, or whenever. It's about $7 for the Greens Salad. Pretty simple one with mixed greens, and there's a light balsamic dressing, along with peppers and tomatoes. It's about $7 for the Hummus. This is rich and creamy and comes with a good amount of pita triangles. Chill atmosphere that makes a good place for casual Greek food. It's got lots of traditional items. There's plenty for meat and seafood eaters as well as vegetarians.

Though the room we sat in was only 1/2 full the noise level was disturbing. Needs fabric on walls, cloth drapes, sound baffles. Or carpeted floors. At this price point I did expect more.

We were picking up a to-go order, but the woman at the front seemed distracted and came across as somewhat rude. I understand they were busy, but we still had to wait an additional 20 minutes. While waiting, we went to the bar for cocktails. After she finally handed us a bag, she came back and took it from us because she had given us the wrong order. The bartenders also seemed overwhelmed, and it took a while before someone noticed us and took our drink order. The cocktails were fine, but the overall experience felt disorganized and unwelcoming. Despite enjoying the food and décor, I probably would not return.

However, since this Lombard location opened, I think at least a decade ago we've definitely been coming here consistently. Even though I don't put a review of every single time I visit. However, my last review of this place was over four years ago, so I thought it was about time to update this. I still give it a solid four stars because this place is key and king on consistency. If there's one thing you can rely on here is that that same recipe from 10 years ago or 30 years ago is still the same good recipe today. And that is absolutely fantastic. I do believe the portions have gotten slightly smaller over the years and obviously prices have gone up, but this is to be expected. The only downfall of this location is that they never take reservations that if you come during peak hours, you better expect to wait even over and up to an hour. Something else that I've seen really evolved at this place is that when they originally first opened, including the Greektown location, all servers, including bus, boys, etc., were all Greek that has definitely changed now over the years The parking lot here is still very generous however during peak times beware it will be hard to find the parking space and there is no valet. Well, consistency is fantastic. I do wish they had expanded the menu to make lokoumades dessert. It's one of my favorites and they still don't offer it.

Entrees and sides prepared perfectly, right down to sauce on the side for the seventh entree. It was a pleasure to meet the owner, Mike G. I had the opportunity to thank him for years of great eating. Furthermore, I noticed the sign of a great leader: When it got busy, he jumped in and helped his amazing staff. He leads by example, and it shows. We all had various forms of rice bowls and pitas. Of special note this visit: The sides! The pork and chicken souvlaki are simply divine. The oven roasted Greek potatoes seems like they're right out of your favorite rah-ra's oven. Full of flavor, and mind-blowing. The rice pudding and baklava, as my SIL said, ..."took a 98 point visit and made it a 100 point visit...". My thanks to Mike G. and the amazing staff for a wonderful meal. There are a ton more veggie toppings that you can get and about 7 different sauces to choose from. It was so good !! The gyro meat is nothing like I have had in other restaurants selling gyros. This is not the ground up, pressed Into a cone shape and then placed on a spot, this is steak and lamb slices compressed and then put on the spit and shaved off in little tender bits. Now I know gyros can be greasy but these weren't at all !! Husband got a platter that came with two sides. He chose a marinated tomato, green pepper, onion and cucumber salad and some fries. His gygo meat pile came on a bed of rice. This is a huge plate of food !! For these two meals and a soda (fountain and refillable) it was 41.67 with tax. Well worth it as I ate at 5pm and am still stuffed at 9.
