Wooden Paddle was a really good surprise. A little more upscale, but still comfortable. It was kinda empty when we went. You can see the pizza ovens from the seats. Smells amazing the whole time. Staff was great. Sean helped us out and gave some solid recommendations. We went with the pepperonly pizza. When it hit the table, the presentation looked amazing. First bite... that was it. The crust had that perfect crunch on the outside but still soft inside. You could taste that wood-fired char, just enough to give it that smoky edge. The cheese was melted just right, stretchy and hot. The sauce had a nice balance, a little tangy, a little sweet, not overpowering anything. The pepperoni was the best part. Crispy on the edges, a little oily in a good way, and full of flavor. Every bite just worked. Thin, balanced, nothing too heavy. If you like pizza, this is one of those spots you gotta try. Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and we enjoyed what we ordered. The Buzzkill pizza was delicious, and the appetizer platter was a great option for the table. Unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. It took about 10 minutes before anyone came over to seat us, another 10-15 minutes before someone took our order, and when our Snap Into It salad arrived (for a party of three), it only came with two pieces of bread, so we had to ask for a third. At the end of the meal, we waited around 20 minutes just to get our check. The surprising part was that the restaurant wasn't busy at all, so the slow service was hard to understand. The original Mr Beef was highlighted as a favorite - good especially if you like hot giardinara. The sausage fest was a little too heavy for my tasting- overload on meats and felt greasy and soggy but flavor was good. The menu has a good amount of pizza options and gluten free crust is available which is great. The dough was more crunchy than doughy which was a nice surprise. Great under carriage. Absolute shout out to our server Leah T - she was attentive, kind, accommodating and such a pleasure to have as a server. She made our first experience exquisite. The friend polenta with shrimp was delicious but I think adding a hit of spice would make it a 10/10 for me. But I would still order again since it's still super solid. What a beautiful space! Wooden Paddle LaGrange is a totally different vibe than their location in Lemont. This space is sexier, more sophisticated, and upscale. My husband and I visited and sat at the bar. I ordered the Moonmilk as recommended by the bartender. The color was not what I was expecting. The taste was subtle and more acidic than the description read but it was good and balanced. I also ordered their Goat Cheese Arancini. It came with four large balls with a dollop of sauce on top of each. They were perfectly crispy and savory. I did notice while visiting that their menu changes seasonally. BUTTER CAKE- we were given this as a complimentary treat because we were celebrating an event. Unfortunately, the cake was BURNT. The dark (black) brown exterior of the cake speaks for itself. The FIRE & ICE was made with passionfruit liqueur, fresh lime juice, simple syrup habanero bitters, fresh basil. On this occasion, I also got to try the Grandma's pie. The GRANDMA'S PIE Sweet was made tavern-style tomato sauce, provolone, fresh mozz, freshly grated parm, basil chiffonade. I would order this again as the tomato sauce was complex. It was delicious. I also recommend the fried brie. It is not greasy compared to other cheese curds. I love that their food and drinks haven't changed in quality. The "Don't take it for pomegranate" is a nice vodka cocktail for any time of day. No judgment here! The ingredients used for the drinks and food here are top notch and lots of which are made in house. All the pizzas here are delicious. Something for everyone, vegetarian, meat eaters, and everyone in between. The space is beautiful inside. The attention to detail shows everywhere you look. Beautiful presentation on the really good bread and butter, as well as the polenta fries. The bread and butter was outstanding. Our plates were quite messy after. When our salad came, in one large bowl, we weren't offered clean dishes. We had to ask for them. We had a pizza and a pasta. Both very underwhelming. The pizza was oily, I didn't finish my piece. The pasta was flavorless. Sad thing is, we came in for Restaurant Week. Isn't that when the restaurants choose their most popular or most delicious dishes to represent the restaurant? My friend and I both ordered caesar salads and caramel espresso martinis. I also ordered an entire pizza for myself (ate a few slices there and brought the rest home). I asked our waiter which pizza I should order, and he recommended the Buzzkill; calabrian chili peppers, pepperoni, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, sweet honey. The pizza blew my mind. When I first saw it, I thought it looked like a typical pepperoni pizza, maybe slightly elevated. However, once I took my bite I was in awe. The combination of the spicy calabrian chili peppers, sweet honey, and the saltiness of the pepperoni was phenomenal! My friend and I both enjoyed our caesar salads. I opted to add grilled chicken to mine and it was very flavorful and well cooked. The roasted garlic breadcrumbs elevated the salad even further. The star of the show was the caramel espresso martinis! They were SO good that we each ordered a second one. Very strong, but not overly sweet from the caramel. For desserts we ordered creme de la creme brulee, ooey gooey butter cake, and caramelized banana split. Pizza is their bread and butter so it's imperative that you at least try one. If you don't want pizza, you should order a meat dish with something else like pasta or vegetables. Maybe an appetizer because the portions for the meat are not enough to fill you up by itself. You might think the prices are expensive, they have coupons that you can acquire. You should enroll in their pie society that you can find on their website. My favorite was the Shrooms pizza that black truffle oil smelled amazing it was so inviting. However the K-bbq and the original Mr beef was also good (this was the perfect combination of Italian beef and peppers and pizza). Came here with a large group. This pizza came out with black pepperoni and was inedible. I usually love this place and don't get me wrong- most people loved their food. But my friend got a gluten free pepperoni pizza and it was delivered with black pepperoni. She was too embarrassed to say anything and tried to eat it but it was hardly edible. It should not have left the kitchen by the chefs, nor should the server have served it. In a nice restaurant like this, I would expect better. Being gluten-free is not abnormal so someone ordering a pizza should expect the same quality as everyone else. I hope they fix this. My original experience with this place was a wedding reception. At that time I didn't realize they had locations. Looked it up and made a reservation. I only had one pizza when I dined in but it was just as delicious as it was at the wedding reception. The atmosphere there was great. I've been to the Lemont location and this one is much larger....but the noise level is crazy. SO LOUD....we could barely hear each other. I swear the must was so loud it was like being in a club! Our server was great (Emma), though the runners brought most of the food out all at once so that was kind of an issue (space-wise and temperature-wise). Also, not a fan of the unisex bathrooms (down a long flight of stairs). Pee all over the floor by the urinal and overflowing garbage. They need to service them more often. We love the OG WP in Lemont, so we were very excited they were opening a second location near us in La Grange. The hype definitely continues! Woden Paddle 2.0 has a much more modern vibe with a huge, beautiful bar. The service is what I would expect, attentive & thorough. The pizzas an are still great (although the Lemont location will always have that extra something). Chicken parm and meatballs were great! The mushrooms, give off a serious Chicken McNugget Vibe in the best way possible to give me a nostalgic feeling without the guilt of housing the entire serving. My mom has been bugging to post this review, well here it is! She's an older lady. My mom has been to Wooden Paddle twice now, The first time, about a month ago, she sat at the bar and was helped by a young man, the service was not great, and she left feeling disappointed. About a week ago? she decided to give it another try. This time, a young lady with glasses took care of her at the bar, and the difference was night and day. My mom mentioned her last visit, and the bartender( young lady) immediately apologized. She took the time to go through the menu with my mom, who has certain dietary needs, and even double-checked with the chef to make sure everything was okay for her to eat. My mom said she felt cared for and really appreciated the effort and attention. She told me it was the best service she's had in a while, and it made her feel comfortable enough to come back again. read more
