I had been going there for the better part of a year because they took my insurance. I figured I could always just opt out of all the additional stuff they tried to sell me and just stick with the adjustments. Went in for a routine adjustment, Dr compressed middle back and it did not go well. I had a hard time getting off the table after that but sometimes that happens. Went in next week and different Dr (Sawyer) came in to do adjustment. I explained to him what happened last time and told him to skip the middle back adjustment and he did it anyway! Same result, I could hardly get off the table. I couldn't believe he completely DISREGARDED what I told him about the last middle back adjustment that I had. I never went back after that. read more

This is a scam! I'm a healthcare professional and have been seeing chiropractors for years, so I'm very familiar with the body and with what is normal vs. what is concerning. I went to this chiropractor for simple neck pain, and it turned into one of the most unprofessional interactions I've ever had with a provider. At my first visit, he told me I had a "leg length difference," a "neck subluxation," and "scoliosis" -- all before I ever saw the X-rays. He also claimed he could feel scoliosis in my lower back with his hands, which is impossible for mild curves. No chiropractor or medical provider in my entire career or personal history has ever said anything like that to me. When I finally saw the X-rays myself, it was obvious that I had no measurable scoliosis. The curve was under 5 degrees -- completely normal and nowhere near something that could be detected by touch. When I pointed this out, he immediately shifted his explanation, saying he meant "indications" of scoliosis due to rotation, and then claimed rotation automatically meant scoliosis. As someone with extensive knowledge of anatomy, I knew this was not true. Rotation does NOT equal scoliosis. He refused to review the X-rays that day and insisted we would "go over them next week," which felt like a fear-based tactic. I had to force the conversation, and when I began asking informed questions about his terminology and claims, he suddenly became irritated, defensive, and accused me of being disrespectful. Instead of educating me, he spoke over me, wouldn't complete explanations, and became increasingly agitated when he realized I understood what I was talking about. A professional should welcome questions -- especially from someone who works in healthcare -- not react angrily when pressed for clarity. Nothing he claimed lined up with the X-ray findings or with anything any of my previous chiropractors have ever told me. The entire experience felt like a scripted attempt to use alarming language (like "subluxation" and "scoliosis") to justify future treatments. If you value transparency, accurate information, or respectful communication -- or if you are someone who asks questions -- I strongly caution you before coming here. Patients deserve clear explanations, not shifting stories, fear-based language, or defensiveness when asking for basic clarity. read more

I went in for a treatment and was not told on the phone I could not receive a same day adjustment. As a new patient. I waited one hour from my appt time, finally shown in a room. No one came in after another wait so I left. My osteopath adjusted me first day without x-rays. Chiropractors Eymann and Bjorn both treated me the first day without X-rays. I don't have any faith in this chiropractic practice. All the doctors I dealt with could feel deviations with their hands and make an adjustment. read more

Just had a "new patient experience." Checking in was seamless as I had already completed my paperwork online prior to my visit. Staff were friendly, was educated prior to during and after my exam. Dr. Sawyer communicated clearly, as welll did Dr. Levine. Sawyer adjusted me and what a relief to get a good nights sleep for once. A year and a half after using my Groupon voucher, I received a notice of intent to collect letter in the mail for the for the services I had received that was covered under my groupon, as well as an additional adjustment that I did not receive, I decided not to go along with their treatment plan as it was out of budget and office hours and location did not work with my schedule. I've been meaning to write this review for a while now but havent got around to it. Recently another friend had the same experience so I thought I'd share mine. Basically, the whole experience ends up feeling a bit shady. The business model is off putting. They take xrays, tell you that you have subluxation of this vertebrae or that, then sell you months of treatment. It kind of seems like a good "deal" at first given the breakdown of price per treatment. Thats where I got sucked in. But the treatments seems pretty cookie cutter, like your on an assembly line. in the end, It did not help my chronic sacral issue that i went there for in the first place. Overall, It seems that everyone is told the same story. I'd be surprised to hear that anyone who went there was told that they only needed just a visit or two. Its just not in their business model. And this is definitely a business model. Scare tactics leading to constant treatment. Keeps those people coming back for sure. There's an arrogance to Sawyer as well. A big turn off. Keeping in mind, these guys are chiroprators, not MDs. Not all body issues can be solved with a crack and a twist. If you go there, just keep your eyes open and dont believe everything you hear. As for me, I ended up going to another chiro who actually listened to what I was saying about my body and then treated me based on that. Much better results in the long run. read more

They had the front desk lady go over my X-rays with me to tell me horror stories about how far progressed my spinal subluxation is and that I need 70 sessions that cost thousands of dollars. It did raise a red flag that the front desk lady walked me through this, but after the fact it makes sense, since they seem to have the one default diagnosis, so the assistant only needs to remember that one story always. To be honest, the scare tactic worked at first and I was ready to get those treatments that I didn't need. Maybe that's because their whole office is set up to prepare you for this diagnosis (pictures of server cases of spinal subluxation in most rooms, etc). Fortunately my wife smelled the BS and I am glad I saved a lot of time and money when I got a second opinion from a different chiropractor. read more

They are wonderfully helpful and go out of their way to accommodate-scheduling, insurance, payments, last minute changes, even designing custom care plans to optimize my resources with my body's needs. All of which made it possible to get help and heal from my injuries in 2019. But, their superb customer service matters little if the medial care wasn't phenomenal! The medical care and patient treatment is life changing! I arrived at Sawyer Chiropractic with severe lower back/hip pain, freezing 'water' shooting down my side to meet burning needles stabbing my toes. Bi-lateral knee damage, two fractured fibulas and a right ankle with multiple ligament tears. Walking and sitting was nearly unbearable. When they saw my state, they ushered me in asap. I was examined and got x-rays on-site! They found "subluxations", or mal-alignments, corresponding to my, numbness, pain, disabilities, and postural challenges. Sawyer Chiropractic discovered, began treatment, started giving me relief and mobility long before the "traditional" doctors approved and reviewed MRIs and nerve conductance tests that confirmed the analysis of Dr. Sawyer and his team. Over the past 7 months at Sawyer Chiropractic I have worked with three doctors. Each very good at chiropractic. All with their own "fine tuning" that is appreciated and affords me a more well-rounded "tune-up". We started with very intensive treatment plan, 3 adjustments a week. It was not painful, as I expected. It was exhausting, but ultimately gave me more energy. The adjustments had reduced my pain by week two! I could sleep nearly a whole night through after just a few treatments. My ability to walk, sit, and simply move throughout my day noticeably improved. It did soo quickly my partner called it "magic". The start of the third month of treatment, and almost exactly when their care plan shifted treatments from three sessions/week to two, I was able to walk over two miles without disabling pain, burning needles or major swelling. That is when I started sharing with my friends about the "magic" at Sawyer Chiropractic. Also, when my partner decided to see how they could help him get the most out of his body too. Dr. Sawyer is incredibly committed to supporting a healthy community. He volunteers and even conducts a free wellness workshop every month. It was at that workshop my partner and I got to see the science, and hear anecdotal lessons, that is the basis of his medical care. Life style medicine is a real thing. Sadly, it is just catching in the science/medical community, as their is not a RX to be profited from. but fortunately has been the foundation of Dr. Sawyer's for decades. He has even made a free online exercise video to get good flow started in just 15 minutes! Very cool to be cutting-edge, caring, knowledgeable, and altruistic. Extra awesome is they do the utmost to hire personnel who hold the same values-caring for the people's overall wellbeing. The administrative staff extend that ethos in office care, follow up, financial arrangements and general help they provide. They have created a very comfortable, efficient, comprehensive atmosphere. A family feel, it provides a natural filter. Even if you don't know the name of the person next to you they also vibe positive. I am a real person to each of them, even though they help soo many patients. Not just a patient file, they remember the little things, like ask about my visit with my mom (now I can endure a three hour car ride) or how my anniversary was. Their helpful reminder texts the evening before my appointments are appreciated. Healing is not linear, and when I need to reschedule I have found warm understanding. Seven months of treatment I am down to one session per week, more maintenance than fixes. It's been much work, daily PT, weekly chiro, bimonthly acupuncture, healthy diet and hydration, but it is paying off. I have had a huge healing transformation! Now, I truly believe I will dance, surf, and run again; that I will look in the mirror one day and see the Me I was before my injuries. Tl/dr: Sawyer is a scam artist manipulator who is anti-vax and anti science. Don't give this practice your money! This is a very late review, as I saw Sawyer back around 2015/2016. Initially I found this chiropractor because my (then) gf was having chronic back pain, and Sawyer accepted MediCal. In the initial consultation for my gf, they told us that she had bone spurs and had a lot of decay (she was in her late 20's). I started crying about the severity of the diagnosis, and the staff member who was telling us this was very unsympathetic and told us that we had to commit to their treatment plan to delay further deterioration. They said she needed to be seen 3x/week. We were both on MediCal and couldn't afford the treatment, but we're ultimately convinced that this was the only way to help my ex with her pain. MediCal only paid for two sessions a month. We thought Sawyer had our best interest at heart. I decided to get a consultation (paid by MediCal) for some neck pain I was experiencing. My x-ray came back with the same dire diagnosis as my ex's. I was not experiencing the same level of pain as her, so I started to get suspicious. I was not convinced the x-ray was even of my neck, as I have a basic understanding of anatomy and the vertebrae with the bone spurs was not the same area that was giving me trouble. The staff member presenting the image couldn't explain this. The staff and Sawyer attempted to persuade me into another expensive payment plan, but I was it able to afford more than the 2x/week my insurance paid for. After a little while of seeing me every other week, Sawyer told me that the treatment was useless unless I committed to their plan. He then terminated me as a patient. And don't get me started on the "mandatory" informational meetings! We avoided these for a long time, but we're harassed every visit to commit to one of these (which also cost money, as I recall). Sawyer went on and on about how allergies don't exist (a myth made up by the mind!), how bad vaccines are (pre-COVID), and how terrible fat people are. I am disappointed but not surprised to read other reviews that mention how casually he handled the COVID 19 crisis. This guy is a joke, a scammer, and a manipulator. Just because he is healthy by exercising and eating healthy does not mean that everyone has those capabilities or can treat a neurological disorder simply by having a healthier lifestyle. Aside from this, I was in a car accident in which my back was a tiny bit more stiff than usual. The office conned me into meeting with their lawyer who sued the person who hit me. It was a very minor accident and should not have been dealt with this way. They insisted I see a lawyer so that they could receive the insurance payments and still charge me regularly for visits. Bare with me for this long review but please read if you're considering going to Sawyer Chiropractic. I've received chiropractic care in the years prior to my few visits with Dr. Sawyer. I moved to Santa Cruz & was referred to his clinic from my previous doctors. Majority of the Sawyer staff have been rude and dismissive and wear their face masks below their nose. I saw two people in a 15 min window walk into that office and sit down with no mask. My appointment to go over my X-rays was supposed to be with Dr. Sawyer but instead ended up being with one of the front desk ladies who didn't have any answers to my questions. She told me I have bone spurs and bone decay and gave no explanation as to how this could have happened in my early twenties with no previous pain/warnings. She clearly didn't want to be there and gave me attitude while going over my X-rays. I wasn't comfortable with the payment plan she offered so she sent Dr. Sawyer in who reiterated that I have bone decay in my spine and 2 bone spurs. They both said if I didn't get care in the next 3-6 months I would rapidly turn into a phase 3 ensuing permanent damage to my spine. I felt unsure of this place from the start & with his diagnosis so I paid the extra $15 to get a copy of my X-rays and got two additional opinions (1 from my old doctor in San Jose & another with Action Chiropractic) They both did not agree with any of his diagnoses & said they would never tell any patient when they would reach a certain phase with absolute certainty for various reasons. (Body morphology, partake in physical labor, etc). I do not have bone spurs or bone decay as previously told by Dr. Sawyer and his staff. I am so glad I listened to my gut and got other opinions. I believed him at first and after my visit I was so scared about my bones deteriorating at 23 yrs old. I had no reason not to believe him, right? I worry about his patients that aren't getting second opinions and are being treated for a diagnosis that may not be accurate. Dr. Sawyer also has introduction seminars for new patients and preached for an hour about how he's anti vaccines and wearing masks. In fact, he removed his mask during the seminar and was using his credibility as a chiropractor (not an MD) to explain why masks are unnecessary stating he's done his homework & follows science to a tee. I have seen other people say that he's offered to write medical exemptions to not wear a mask. I know professors who have/are studying COVID-19 as we speak that would absolutely say otherwise. The CDC says otherwise. The state says otherwise. I'm very frustrated that he would run his practice so poorly and give me false claims about my back/neck. It wasn't just one, but two other doctors who refute his diagnoses. If a doctor has to use fear mongering to convince a patient to use their services & pay, something isn't right. I've been going to Dr Sawyer for a year and even switched Health Plans (new job). The whole office was supportive and helped me work through the differences in plan coverages. I was skeptical of chiropractic care at first and still haven't gotten over the slight tensing when they adjust, BUT the results have been very good for me. No more lower back pain. Whenever I was told something, they never got mad or frustrated with my numerous questions. Chiropractor work is very helpful but getting a Dr that actually cares about you is more important. I have enjoyed the adjustments but have a few issues with this office. I am currently going once a week but at first went 5 days then 3 days down to 2 and now just once. 3 different chiropractors work on me (adjust me, less then 2 minutes per session) so I have not actually seen Dr Sawyer in several weeks and "Dr J" usually leaves me feeling worse then better. I like Dr Sawyers adjustments but I think Josh is actually the best chiro in the place. (although he seems to care less about me then Dr Sawyer does) My biggest gripe is it feels like a processing plant, they line us up as fast as they can and go down the line (think Bobby Fischer playing chess), no time to talk to the Dr or ask any real questions. In fact, they will be adjusting someone else before you get your jacket or shoes on so you cant even ask a question and if you do its just awkward because he will be adjusting someone else. I like to know exactly what they are doing and what vertebrate is being adjusted. After 9+ months of going to this office I can almost guarantee Dr Sawyer would not recognize me on the street. Not just him but no one in his entire office would recognize me This is NOT holistic healing or whole body healing. Only your spine is adjusted with no concern about anything else. The office staff is pretty awesome, very nice and courteous always. But I do notice something very odd, other then the Dr's themselves - all 3 white guys - the entire office staff is made up of Mexican women. It definitely seems strange and some kind of business plan to attract a specific clientele. If one of the chiropractors was Latino or one of the office staff Caucasian, African American or even a man I dont think I would notice it. If you go here for a check up just prepare yourself that their will be an out of pocket expense even if you have insurance . $200+/month Overall a pretty negative review but I would do it all over again. I just came in for my first appointment as part of a Worker's Comp injury/treatment. If they weren't one of the only approved providers in my area, I would turn around and walk out. The amount of anti-vaccine propaganda and conspiracy literature around is literally sickening. That a medical provider would spread this questionable science that threatens the safety of entire societies is beyond messed up. I am only coming here because I basically have to. Given a choice, I'd never patronize this business again. This is a dangerous and unsupported philosophy based on one so called scientific study that has been thoroughly debunked and its author stripped of his right to practice medicine.
