Healing Waves is amazing. This type of chiropractic work is different than traditional aggressive cracking of the body. This type, called Network Chiropractic, is totally non-invasive and completely friendly to the body. (I remember in the past seeing a traditional chiropractor and actually feeling weird and worse off than when I walked in) Dr. Ian Chambers is an incredible healer and body-worker. I've seen him seriously for about a year and a half now. My posture has changed and has become more powerful and EASEFUL. I didn't think this could be the outcome from ANY external body-work. I got tall very young, so I slouched to fit in, and then carried a heavy backpack through years of school, then played 3 years hunched over a stand-up bass, anyway for my whole life I've had an issue with posture, and this chiropractic work is THE FIRST thing that has made a lasting change in my body. I literally get taller each month, slowly opening up my once locked-up back. This work also will benefit your emotional and energetic state. The way I understand it is your spinal cord is highly connected to your central nervous system, and so how you deal with stress shows up in your spine/surrounding musculature. Using light touches, to key spots on your back, Ian 'entrains' you body to reconnect to your full spine, and rewire how stress and situations are dealt with in life. SO, after a time your body will naturally go about stress in another way that is more friendly to your system. Basically, this work trains your system to stay out of 'fight or flight' mode, which is stressful and costly to the body, allowing for greater ease 1) in your physical life, and also 2) your energetic/emotional state. The massage was both potent for healing and relaxing. Having been knocked around a bit by life I have my sore spots and prefer therapeutic massage as opposed to the typical relaxation type. Dr. Mel was the one who introduced me to NSA Chiropractic care when I lived in San Francisco. Before that, I had only frequented traditional chiropractors that would crack my spine manually. They helped, but I always had to keep getting readjusted when my spine went out of alignment. Also, I have a friend who is a Neurologist that always advised me against forceful neck adjustments. If you are looking for a gentle, non violent chiropractic adjustment, and a little hocus pocus, Ian is the doctor for you. I have had neck problems from an accident for almost 35 years now. I've learned to tolerate a certain level of pain every day. Some days the pain would be severe and my neck locked up; and then I'd seek traditional chiropractic manipulation, acupuncture, or even osteopathic manipulations. Most of these helped, but for a short period. A friend recommended Ian Chambers. I have suffered from vertigo, which seems to come on when my neck is really messed up, and I was willing to try anything. I have been going to Healing Waves for a month now, and I couldn't believe that I was able to state that I am PAIN FREE. It was a surprising realization, since I've had some pain daily. I'm even ready to go zip lining now! I still have no idea how Network works, even after going to a free seminar that Ian presented. Although the staff was extremely nice, I would never recommend this place. I came in thinking I was going to get some lower back pain relief. Instead what I got was an hour nap. I was immediately laid belly down while the chiropractor was helping 3 other patients in the very same room. She pointed out everything that seemed to be wrong with my back and yet did nothing to fix it. Besides a few pinches on my neck and "deep breathes" there was absolutely no chiropractic work done. A picture taken of me from behind, for a fitness/body challenge that I entered, made me cringe. My right shoulder was "dropped" by about 3 inches. As a personal trainer I knew enough to know that I needed, or so I thought, to get my skeletal structure adjusted before I further developed my muscles because they would only set my body where it was and frankly I didn't want to remain out of alignment. Always one to go to traditional chiropractors, I decided to check out Yelp and find a local office. I'm fairly new to Santa Cruz so I was open to suggestions. I read a few reviews and then I stumbled on Healing Waves. Something told me that this was going to be a different experience and not the regular cracking, popping and physical adjusting of my bones. Dr. Ian Chambers explained the process of Network Spinal Analysis "NSA" and how it works. It sounded foreign and odd, but my intuition kicked in and I felt that I was in the right place. All I can say is wow! To explain what goes on, and how the process of unwinding for me has occurred is quite involved. So, rather than blather on here's what I know, for me, that's working. They have all been through their own process and they all understand what's going on with my body. For fifty years I have been "wound" up, so tight, that my health has suffered. And I say this with all my heart, I have accomplished more in the 4 months that I've been going to Healing Waves than I have EVER accomplished in traditional Psychotherapy in 20+ years. Traditional chiropractic continues to further stress the body and doesn't teach us how to heal. NSA helps our body heal by opening up the lines of communication throughout the spine. When I first arrived for treatment I had no idea what to expect. I was skeptical at first because the work is so much different from chiropractic that I have had in the past. For about 2 months I was certain it was making little difference, then things started to change. I noticed that I was more mindful on the table each time I visited and that my body felt much relaxed overall. The real "a-ha" moment came with some recent experiences where my body was undergoing much more stress than usual and I traveled to visit family. The entire plane ride home I was uncomfortable, anxious and my neck/shoulders hurt more than they have in months. For one full night and day I had a headache, wanted a shoulder/back massage, couldn't sleep and my cranky mood off-put even the most kind people around me. I went to see Mel the next day and it was literally like magic! I got on the table, Dr. Mel asked me to focus on bringing my spine back to the balance I was enjoying prior and it was unbelievable -- within 1/2 hour the stress in my back, shoulders and head was almost all gone. If I hadn't lived through it, I wouldn't believe it. However, I encourage you to believe me and go for a visit! I'm not one for alternative approaches to healing, so this is HUGE for me.
