This pub is conveniently located near Paddington Station and several hotels. There is seating on two different levels and outside. We sat upstairs in a quieter section. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. Our table was clean, and had food and drink menus waiting for us. The menu has a variety of pub fare at typical London prices. I chose the sirloin steak ciabatta with a side order of house-seasoned fries. Some of the meat was tougher and chewier than I like. The bread was perfect as were the fries. I had an alcoholic ginger beer, which came in a large bottle. I really enjoyed the unique flavour of the ginger beer. Service was fine. The friendly server answered all of our questions about the food and drinks. We didn't feel rushed. There was a 10% tip automatically added to our bill. read more

Packed to the hilt with people, people, people! Loud and busy. Come here knowing you may need to sit closely with strangers and may not be able to hear what your friends are saying. The fastest way to order is through an app that you download and sign into. We were able to catch a server and shared fish and chips, breaded macaroni & cheese balls and Guiness. Fun experience for me as a visitor but may be annoying for locals who want to eat and go home. read more

The biggest issue I had with this pub was that it was packed, and the fact that it was packed stayed with it right up until it was time to close. That meant that not only couldn't I find a seat (inside or out), but if I turned my back one a second, any spare seat I could see would immediately vanish. Look, that isn't necessarily the pub's fault, but I do prefer quieter pubs, particularly pubs whereI am able to sit down and read. There being noise is okay, but as long as I could sit down, which is something that I couldn't really do here. read more

I come to London from the US regularly but have never had sticky toffee pudding. So I did a quick search of where to get it in the area near my hotel. I read the reviews for Sawyers Arms, which was about a block or two from my hotel, and decided to try it. I was also pretty excited to try their great British toastie. It was busy when I went in on a Wednesday around 2 but I found a table and ordered at the bar. The toastie came out quickly and it was really good! It's definitely elevated above the traditional sliced cheese and buttered bread sandwich I'd make at home. The sticky toffee pudding with custard was amazing. I don't have anything to compare it with in terms of other sticky toffee puddings, but it was one of the best desserts I've ever had. I'd highly recommend this place for its relaxed atmosphere and good-tasting, reasonably priced food. read more

Used to be a regular of mine when I was working in Paddington. It's a lovely bar for a pint or a bottle of wine after work. There's a nice seating area, although it can get quite busy on a Friday. Food wise it's not cheapest but very good quality pub food. I had the nachos which are totally yummy and also tried the fish and chip board which was really good value and super tasty. We got chunky fish fingers, fish sliders, tripped cooked chips and breaded calamari and some gherkins to garnish. Wine wise they have a good choice and if you buy two large glasses, you can get rest of the bottle free which is a nice touch. Staff was very friendly. Food was delicious. I ordered the big fish and chips plate, which comes with something called fried whitebait. I liked it, but others in my party tried it and did not. Yes the beer was nice and cold. For this tourist, I enjoyed it. You do order at the bar, but they bring your food to you. It threw us off a bit, but that's okay. Would definitely return. Sawyers Arms is a popular, busy traditional pub in Paddington, just 2 minutes from the station. Like (all too) many pubs in central London it is now owned by Greene King brewery, which of course entails the dominance of their beers on tap, but - thankfully - there's also a selection of guest ales. The pub is spread over a number of rooms on two levels, and there's a small outside seating area on the street, too. You will find Sawyers Arms to be extremely busy in the evenings, so you may find it hard to secure a table inside at peak hours. The food is simple and streamlined. This is one of at least three Greene King pubs within a three-minute radius (another one is just on the other side of the street). Many Paddington fleabag hotels are located just around the corner, so it may be a good place for a final pint before you turn in for the night. read more

What's cool about some of the bars here in London is that they offer some free wi-fi. Just sign up with "The Cloud." It's free and there's no pestering emails later on too. And as for the beer itself, I'm not really used to room temperature beer, but I guess it's a standard in the UK. But when I ordered the Carlsburg, it was super cold. I guess the stuff in the cask is just room temperature and the stuff in the kegs are cold. Now that's my type of beer. There's two bars; one downstairs, one upstairs and there are plenty of more room upstairs; plus you can drink outside. And there's no barrier outside too. I guess people can just drink on the sidewalk. Neat stuff. It definitely feels like there are some history here or something. It feels old but they do a good job of maintaining the place. Tired and hungry from a long day's travel, my friends and I decided to have dinner at this pub because it looked the most popular among all the other options along London street. Upon entering we realized this was a tourist trap. The majority of the patrons were tourists. They too must have had the same thoughts we had. If you come here it should be for drinks, not food. They have a pretty good selection of beers. This pub doesn't have service. You have to go to the bar on the first level to order food. Tell them your table number and they will bring your food to you. I ordered the steak pie. The best part of the meal was the flake pastry on the top of the pie. The whole dish was bland and dry. On the side were steamed veggies and mashed potatoes. Event the mashed potatoes were boring. I'm pretty sure they just mashed up boiled potatoes. They have free WiFi. The Cloud network. read more

There are a number of things to like. Craft ales. Lots of nooks and crannies to tuck into. Quiet and private enough to have a nice conversation. They lost our business today, though. On a Monday night, 7 of us came in at 18:00 and ordered drinks. For 4 more hours we ordered drinks. Easily spending £300. So around 22:00 we go to order food and are told the kitchen is closed. No food. So we go to the Lebanese place across the street. We bring out takeaway back. Now, we had asked to buy food from the Sawyers Arms first. The waitress comes over and says we need to eat somewhere else. Their kitchen is closed--they won't serve us food even if we pay for it--but we can't eat there either. We ask to speak to the manager. She says the answer is the same. We can't order food and we can't bring food in. Her explanation? "The kitchen was open until 9:30. We had ample time to order." So we are at an impasse. We can't pay for their food and we can't eat some other store's food. That's that. We are done. We leave and won't be coming back. We could have spent another £50 or £100 that night. But they wanted to ask us to leave. So we did. For good. read more

Just popped in for a late lunch after arriving from Paris. Very open and lots of tables (certainly wasn't busy at 16.00). The barwomen are all foreign; Spanish, I think. OK beer on tap (their keg beer is kept "extra cold," for tourists, no doubt; I recommend going cask or going home, but the selection was mostly kicked when we were there). Food was all right. Sandwiches are the cheapest, at less than £5, and rather filling. Great chips. Find a table, note its number, then order at the bar. Pay up-front, they give you beer, and sit and wait for your nosh. Not a bad system; no-frills, and rather fast. Don't be afraid to go upstairs. Sign saying "Traditional British Cuisine" is a bit inauspicious.... read more

The atmosphere is laid back and friendly, and the servers are kind and quick. This place had one of the rudest waitresses I have encountered in a long time. They serve food but you have to go to the bar to order. I went to the bar to ask for some menus. She told me they were on the tables. I said there wasn't one on mine. She said which tables yours. Like I was lying to her about it. Then I asked do we order at the bar or does the waitress come around? She said you got order from the bar. I asked do we pick up the food or does someone deliver? We'll deliver. Very condescending tone, no eye contact. We had ordered dessert. When she brought the food my reminded that she ordered dessert. The waitress said real bitchy do you want it with the main?She cleaned away our dishes, made no mention of our dessert. She went away cleaning off other tables. About 10 minutes later I flagged her down and asked about dessert. She said real snotty I put the order in but I didn't want it to melt. We travel & eat out a lot. Most waitresses are pleasant and welcoming. I understand and know when they're busy. But I'm spending money in their establishment. I would think they would want me to feel welcome. read more

Early evening after work, the locals were there in force on the ground floor. But go upstairs and you can order pub food and there's a second bar. We both got the steak and ale pie and Guiness stout. The pies were pretty good in terms of taste, the meat was gristle free, and the sauce (a reduction of ale and meat juices maybe) was dark and rich. Nothing is ever wrong with Guiness! I came here because last night I went to Zetland Arms in Kensington and it was amazing so I was hoping for the pork belly again. Everything but the fries were bad. The Slaw was overdressed, the string on my pork belly was on the meat and it was in a bowl so it was swimming in grease and the watercress was not dressed. It w as really disappointing. My friend had the ham grilled cheese and it looked like they forgot the cheese. The two stars is for the service because we let the bartender know and she was very sweet to say that she would like the staff know. This place! Reminded me of my grandmother, but not in a good way! The last time I had burgers this bad was in Baghdad at my granma's place. We ordered 4 mini burgers platter. The burger patty was as thin and dry as a paper. It comes as two big burgers simply cut into quarters. The wedges in the middle of the plate saved the day. Its a pity that the food was like that because the place is not bad at all for a drink. Very cozy with leather couches with different spots whether you want privacy or to be sitting on a big table with others.
