I've been patronizing this and many other landscape material businesses for years now. All of the places carry the same or similar material and all are around the same prices. But what makes SBI stand out to me is their hours of operation. They stay open until 5pm. When most others close at 3:30pm or 4pm. This is incredibly helpful for people. And for that reason alone, I feel they stand out as better than the rest!!! Also, they cater to home owners, and people with small projects. As they sell materials down to the 1/4 yard. Business practices like this are so helpful for home owners and those trying to accomplish small jobs. Without having to buy things by the bag at box stores. read more

Michael and Chase at the irrigation & lighting depot are tremendous aids to my landscaping and construction business. I followed them from other supply locations to this one and this experience makes the little supply house great. More than fair prices on good components I trust, and quick delivery's too. Purchased a small amount of materials, that required to my site. Wasn't cheap, but the *delivery driver* made the experience! Ma****l was great.... He called ahead, followed the access instructions, and was professional, attentive and friendly. It is *SO* uncommon to feel as though anyone holds customer service as an important value, that his personality really stood out. (And he put the materials exactly where I asked him to!) I've not actually been a customer of SBI nor had I even been inside prior to 8/23. I just have to give a shout out to Michael Cronin at the business location on River Road. I was about to go into Action Rents next door when I accidentally slammed my car door on my finger. The pain took my breath away. My finger wasn't just throbbing; it was gushing blood down my shirt onto the ground. I thought I might pass out. Somehow from across my car's hood, my open car door, through the business' glass door and across the service counter, this man of magical sight saw what had occurred. He rushed to my side with bandaids. Mike bandaged me up and urged me to go to the hospital for stitches. His calmness, smile and lack of hesitation to help a stranger moved me. I ended up going inside the store while Mike got his card for me. He continued to be just as kind while we chatted. i went today and the service by the 2 spanic dispatchers was horrible They think that they own the store and the others guys in the field uffff same sh*** you talk to them and they are like werever There was other guy telling me same thing about the dispatchers and the field guys He was very mad So i will not recomend this place read more

I don't know know anything about building materials but I do know what I like and I was redoing a pool, the coping, and the paving around a fire pit so I needed to look at the materials available. Luckily, I found Howard Lasker at SBI. He helped me so much, for over a year, to help me identify what I needed, how much I needed and to time the deliveries properly. He also almost always answered his phone and was incredibly helpful. It's worth going to SBI for Howard alone. Great job! read more

I had another great experience at SBI with Rochelle Rutherford and just had to share how very helpful she was. I am hoping to put in a patio in my backyard. I do not have anyone who is able to help me as I am a single female and I have to trust the people whom I hire and depend on. That also applies to the businesses I buy from, in this case, SBI. Thanks to Rochelle who is very knowledgeable, nice and caring, she was able to see that what was being ordered for my job by the person I almost hired was not really what I needed. If it had not been for her, I would have been SOL. It is so nice to be able to trust who is helping you, knowing that they want the best for their customers. It really means so much and says a lot about the integrity of the person, (Rochelle) and the company, SBI. I may have to start over from scratch, but I am sure going to make my purchases from them and recommend them highly. Allen is amazing. I went by the yard and was seeking a similar stone to what we laid down 8 years ago. He took my info and said he would check around to see if anyone had unused quantity that I am needing for my project. He called me the same day and said he was still looking into it and apologized he didn't have an immediate answer for me. He has shown the best customer service even though we have not completed the sale. I went looking at 4 other landscape supply places and have been blown off or given a quick answer to get me out of there. The project is multiple materials needed but the stone is the visible part and needs to be as close to a match as possible. Just spent our Saturday driving 120 miles round trip to SBI materials in Windsor and Santa Rosa. The SBI website noted they were open Saturdays 8am- 4 pm so did the signs on the doors when we arrived at 2 pm to find them closed!!! Really guys???????!!!! read more

We placed an order and we were told it would arrive by a certain date. Totally understand that things change and they have no control over shipments arriving at the port. Week after week we would call and ask for an update and Rochelle knew nothing. Her response every time was "let me call the distributor and find out what's going on" and she would never call us back. Same thing every week. It's been almost 3 months and we haven't received an ETA on arrival. The lack of transparent communication is frustrating. We had to cancel and go somewhere else. read more

I been buying materials in this store las 5 years I went there to buy flat stone for a job I pick the materials I put tag with my name they promised to deliver on Saturday they never show up I went there the lady name Theresa she was mad and told me the Windsor store pick up the materials she blame on then I show her the materials still there she blame on me because they dint see the tag she keep laying but never apologized for doing terrible job she was the rude I think she hate her job read more

I looked at a few local places for under 10 cy of rock for my front yard. Used Yelp, Google and word of mouth. First place I visited was Ramm, easy to get to and nice layout of their materials but garbage customer service. The man working there glanced up from the person he was helping without so much as a "Look around, there is plenty to see, I will be with you as soon as I can". So.. I looked at their prices, made a mental note and walked out with my niece's. The next day, I was told to visit SBI. All I heard was, "they have great prices". Worth a look since they are very close to where I live. I parked and within 5 mins of walking up and looking around the yard I was greeted and asked how he could help us. First he asked some questions about any prep work that has been done to the area, if any (we were obviously NOT there as professionals and I honestly appreciated it). How big of a job it would be and what style or sizes we liked. We talked a bit and he said to check out their other location in Windsor because he believed the two choices he had in mind for what we were looking for would be at that location. I asked him for the names again as we walked out towards the parking area and he said he would actually write them out for me. I never asked, he just did it. As we walked, my niece's were in awe of their beautiful koi pond by the front office. Anyone need ideas on a water feature, it's beautiful. At the end of it all, SBI in Windsor is great. Really nice employees there! Their showroom is amazing and I won't lie, the smell inside is like perfume. Not the overbearing axe cologne wearing teenager type, just enough that you notice you are looking at some materials you will be spending quite a bit on. We went in July the 3rd and since the next to days they were closed, we got them on Saturday. Worked out exactly perfect since that's probably about the time we were going to start that part of the job anyway. I was told they would be delivered between 11 and 1pm. 10:59am, they were at my driveway. Can't say much more about that. Gustavo at the yard on River/Fulton sealed the deal. Yesterday was our first time at SBI and I'm certain we won't ever go anywhere else. They have a great selection of materials and amazing service. At one point we needed help with some stone pavers; just general information and pricing. We caught the attention of a fork lift driver (Sergio?) who was unloading a truck. He immediately parked the fork lift, hopped off and knowledgably and patiently helped us. This was at the end of the day, it was hot and he was in the middle of doing something, but he never seemed frustrated or impatient, not for one second. We didn't end up getting the materials, wanted to go home and measure, etc. Then I called SBI to get more information based on our measurements and spoke to a really nice and informative man. I asked for prices, but he didn't have them. He let me know they had closed a half and hour earlier and he was a yard person who just happened to hear the phone ring as he was leaving... what! who does that?! who care enough to answer the phone as he's leaving work after working outside in 100 degree heat all day to chat about my silly little rock questions for 20 minutes! I come here every year for my compost, garden soil, bark and other landscaping materials. Great products and fair prices!!! As an avid gardener, I tried many places before hitting the jackpot with SBI. The staff is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, welcoming, and friendly. I've witnessed countless times SBI assisting new customers who don't have a clue what they are doing. I needed materials for my cabin's hearth and wandered in, rather clueless, not a knowledgeable customer and, therefore, more time-consuming.
