    16" Sicilian Pizza
    Jasmine M.

First time trying this place and it was a cozy, casual local vibe. Server was friendly and funny. I was craving a square pizza with crispy edges like Prince St pizza and my craving was fulfilled by the 16" Sicilian. I tried the bruschetta too. The bread was crispy yet fluffy and cheese on it was sooo good. I enjoyed the tomato/onion on side. Would def get the pizza/bruschetta again and will have to come back to try the pasta :)

The Alfredo here is made with fresh noodles they cut. They are very tasty. I miss the bread sticks that they used to give you with it. The staff is friendly and it was ready to pick up when i arrived.

Been frequenting this lovely "hole in wall" since '04... and it's just as amazing now as then!!!

October 2020. Different bread used to be the sliced bread, but now more like Olive Garden breadsticks because of Covid

I wrote the previous review quickly as you got a 10% off if you wrote a review. I went again on October 28, 2020 as I had very rare work travel to Spotsylvania County! I wanted to try to make sure I could time this for the 11-2 time range to get the lunch special. Weighing whether to eat first or after my work, I knew my timing should be ok and arrived at 1:45 after I finished the work. The server was friendly. The bread was not the sliced bread and just a breadstick (like Olive Garden style) because of Covid. The bread wasn't as good, but still good. The pasta was outstanding. The sauce is what really makes it a real treat. Highly recommend!

On a family roadtrip, we ran into some nasty I-95 traffic and decided to exit for some dinner. Scafa's Italian Restaurant was the first and best option that popped up, and we are glad it did. They brought out the kid's spaghetti for our daughters very quickly, which really helps in keeping a peaceful table. Soon after that followed our Greek salad, which was big enough to split among three of us. While I am not a fan of iceberg lettuce, everything else on this salad was excellent. The sliced carrots and anchovies were a nice house twist to this classic salad. Due to certain topping dislikes / reactions, and the high cost of getting individual pizzas, we agreed on splitting a shrimp scampi pizza. The shrimp were definitely overcooked and the crust was too thick for a place that boasts a woodfired brick pizza oven, but for a standard American-style pizza, this was pretty good. We finished off by sharing tiramisu and a cannoli. Both of these were excellent! The tiramisu had a nice coffee essence to it, while the cannoli had a crunchy shell with lots of cinnamon baked in. Highly recommended! For a chance discovery, this was a very pleasant surprise. I guess we should thank the long line of cars on I-95 for helping us find a good meal.

Date of visit: May 26, 2021 After hearing such glowing reports of Scafa's and also trying to find THE best Philly cheesesteak (yes, we are both born and raised Philly!), we decided to give Scafa's a try. Ok...so I've not heard anyone speak about the decor! Let's say that Robert Irvine would have a field day in here. PLEASE update the interior and get rid of the grapevines on the ceiling and the vinyl tablecloths and wallpaper and .... Is this place even Covid safe? It seemed clean but...the decor...Ok, I digress. Our server was wonderful (wish I could remember her name). She was so attentive and friendly. The food...we ordered an Italian hoagie and Philly cheesesteak. We upgraded in cost to the fries and onion rings instead of chips. We received 4 of the skinniest onion rings I've ever seen. They were mainly breading. The fries were shoestring fries that were not seasoned at all and not hot either. The hoagie was ok. The flavor and the cut of the lunchmeat was good. But it definitely needed the oil and vinegar and seasonings that go on a hoagie. The onions were bland. Usually onions on a hoagie are well seasoned with Italian seasoning and oil. The cheesesteak had a really good flavor with ample amount of cheese. But there was so much lettuce and tomato that there was not much steak at all. The table next to us had a pizza which did look really good. IF we come back, we will try the pizza and maybe order the steak without lettuce and tomato and see if we get more steak in the sandwich. Over all...just ehh.

    Meatballs were delicious

My husband and I have been trying to find a local Italian restaurant that gave us the wow factor. We were hoping that Scafa's would be that eatery. We went in and the place was busy, but still had a few tables available. We found the aroma to be heavenly and were quite pleased with the Italian décor that they offered throughout. A young lady approached us upon walking in, and seated us at a small table for 2 near the counter. We had a great view to the kitchen and were looking forward to trying their woodfired grilled pizza that so many other diners have raved about. Upon being seated, we ordered a couple of waters with lemon and noticed that they had meatballs listed as an appetizer, which you don't see every day. They were sold in two's, so we each got a couple of meatballs to start, then ordered a 14-inch wood fired grilled pizza with pepperoni and onions to split. Assumingly, the meatballs were made earlier in the day, which is to be expected, and were brought right out. Coated in a thick cheese, and drizzled with a thick marinara, I couldn't wait to dig in. They were fantastic! Both my husband and I were now anxiously awaiting our pizza even more so, assuming that if the pizza tasted as good as the meatballs, that we'd found our gem. The presentation of the pizza was on point. Being woodfired, it didn't take too long to cook. I started eating my pizza first; my first impression was, not bad. But I started on the edge, which was a bit more crispy. As I worked my way into the center, the pizza became soggy. I couldn't even hold a slice up; it needed to be a fork and butter knife slice. Other slices had a very burnt flavor to them. Some parts of the pizza appeared undercooked, while other slices appeared to be burnt. My husband and I both ate 2 slices and we ate two each, just to be nice. We were extremely disappointed to say the least. The flavor of the sauce on the pizza, did not match the flavor on the meatballs. In fact, it seemed to lack sauce all together. We were offered a box for leftovers, which we accepted, but ended up tossing when we got to the nearest trash can. We immediately went through a McDonald's drive thru (my husband was still hungry), and ended the evening eating fast food. What an incredible letdown. Service was good, I will say that. I also speak highly of their meatballs, but I will not order pizza again, should we ever decide to give them another whirl.

But the service is what really took the cake! Unfortunately I had a little incident where my phone fell into a crack in the booth, and we weren't able to get it out. It was the kind of thing that was unfortunate, but not anyone's fault. Even so, they went ABOVE AND BEYOND to help. The owner was unable to get a contractor to get the phone out that night, so he worked all day the next day to retrieve the phone himself so I wouldn't have to wait another day. On top of all that, they paid for my dinner because I had to come all the way back from DC to get the phone. Crazy ordeal, but just an example of how much they are willing to do to help out their customers even when they weren't at fault. I will absolutely be coming back any time I am in Fredericksburg. Shout out to the owner and the manager, Tim, for being so helpful. P.S. The cozy indoor dining room transports you to a relaxed, no-frills neighborhood restaurant you'd expect to find in Naples, Italy. The service was excellent. Our server was friendly, offered thoughtful recommendations, and checked in at just the right times. They were attentive without being intrusive. We never had to ask for plates to be cleared or flag someone down when we were ready for dessert. We started with the calamari, followed by the lasagna, and finished with the lemon cake. I also had an Aperol Spritz. Every dish tasted incredibly fresh, and you could tell nothing relied on frozen ingredients or store-bought sauces. If you're looking for authentic Italian food in the Fredericksburg area, I highly recommend Orofino. I can't wait to come back the next time I'm in town.

We had a party of 17 for a retirement dinner, and our waitress seemed noticeably annoyed by the size of our group, even though she had other staff members assisting her. At one point, she brought me a refill but placed it behind me without saying anything. I accidentally knocked it over because I had no idea it was there, and she was VERY visibly annoyed. I was never offered another drink after that. For a large party celebrating a special occasion, she simply was not the right person to provide that level of service. The seating arrangement was also disappointing. We were placed in a room with a door leading directly to the kitchen, so it was extremely loud and staff were constantly walking through our retirement dinner. For what is supposed to be a nicer restaurant--and considering the prices--it really took away from the atmosphere and experience. As far as the food, it was decent but inconsistent. I ordered the lamb chops well done. They had a good flavor, but they definitely were not well done and, in my opinion, were not worth the price. I expected more. The filet mignon was pretty bland. The salad dressing was nasty, to me and the others at the table. They could have kept that. On the positive side, the crab cakes were delicious, and the shrimp pasta with lemon butter sauce was also delicious. The chocolate cake was very good also!! Those were definitely the highlights of the meal. Overall, it was a decent experience, but nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, the customer service and atmosphere made the biggest impression on me, and based on that alone, I don't see myself returning.

I ordered a 9-ounce glass of Blackberry Sangria, the Toscana Filet and Shrimp, and, for dessert, a John Cole. The pasta was served hot; however, both the meat and shrimp were only lukewarm. The John Cole, consisting of ice cream and cake, had already melted by the time it reached my table. While I cannot say for certain, the temperature of the food may have been related to the workload Jasmine was handling. Jasmine was serving a large party of ten, several other tables in the booths, guests seated on the outside patio, and she was also responsible for the bar. That is an enormous amount of responsibility for one server. Despite being stretched in so many directions, Jasmine handled everything professionally and remained attentive and courteous throughout my meal. She certainly deserves credit for doing an excellent job under very demanding circumstances. There was, however, another issue that should not be overlooked: the menu itself had food particles on it. Menus should be clean and presentable, particularly in a restaurant where guests are preparing to dine. Overall, while Jasmine provided professional and attentive service under difficult circumstances, the lukewarm food, melted dessert, and unclean menu detracted considerably from the dining experience.

Their menu has so many features from panini, sandwiches, pizzas, wraps, salads, soups and appetizers. Once you place your order, it's self seating and you will be given a number and the food will be walked to you or you can pick it up. I ordered 3 items: 1) Arancini 2) Eggplant and Tomato Panini 3) Bruschetta Pizza. The panini has eggplant, roasted tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil pesto sauce. I thought I ordered a panini but the fresh mozzarella wasn't even melted. The skin of the eggplant was very chewy, a little tough. and the whole sandwich had great flavor. The panini also came with one side which you have variety of selections but I chose their mac n cheese. I'm surprised that they use cavatappi instead of the proper pasta. The pasta didnt really coat or absorb the flavors but ran away. My eyebrows lifted when the meat, peas and potatoes arancini arrive to the table because I wasn't expecting for them to be bigger than normal. I wouldn't say they are appetizer size but more like entree style because it can feed up to two people with generous portions that lies on top of marinara sauce. It was delicious but very heavy. The pizza was amazing but the under carriage was too soft and not crispy for me. Before i left, I had to get some gelato: coconut and their peanut butter chocolate which both of them were simply amazing. I also purchased their limoncello cake and peach raspberry strudel. I was excited about the limoncello cake, one of my favorites but unfortunately it fell flat for me. I didn't taste any lemon flavors and the cake itself was very dense.
