Despite the snow and icy conditions, the local areas were plow so I was able to make a visit. As you walked in, the kitchen is on the right, host/cashier is in the center and dining area is on the left side. The menu is quite large with a variety of selections from appetizers, salads, soups, pizzas, pasta, subs, calzones and desserts. I ordered 5 items: 1) Fried Pepperoni 2) Caprese Antipasto 3) Italian Deli 4) White Pizza 5) Tiramisu. The caprese antipasto served with tomatoes topped with fresh mozzarella, olive oil, fresh basil and olives. It was refreshing and a little bland. Surprisingly when the fried pepperoni arrived to the table, it wasn't battered but straight up pepperoni served with a ramekin of ranch. For me, it was just too salty so I combine the caprese with the fried pepperoni and together it made it the perfect bite. There were 15 varieties of subs so I chose their Italian deli which is packed with ham, cappacola, salami, provolone, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, sliced onions, Italian dressing and toasted bread. You had a choice of having it served cold or hot. When I took that first bite, I wasn't able to put it down. The bread was soft, fluffy, thin, glad I had it toasted and the combination of all ingredients was on point. I'll definitely order this one again. I ordered their small white pizza, topped with tomatoes, garlic, herbs and white cheese. What made it very delicious was the under carriage and the crust. It was light, airy and crispy. For dessert, 8 varieties so I order their tiramisu. It was creamy, smooth and tasty. The restaurant was clean, can hold large party up to 30-40 people, some decor throughout dining area, there's two types of pizza ovens, and the service was fast and efficient. I had immaculate service from server Kaylyn. She was friendly, genuine, attentive and very knowledgeable. I would definitely make a return visit to try other items on their menu. read more

First time trying this place and it was a cozy, casual local vibe. Server was friendly and funny. I was craving a square pizza with crispy edges like Prince St pizza and my craving was fulfilled by the 16" Sicilian. I tried the bruschetta too. The bread was crispy yet fluffy and cheese on it was sooo good. I enjoyed the tomato/onion on side. Would def get the pizza/bruschetta again and will have to come back to try the pasta :) read more

My wife and I started going to Scafas about 8 years ago for our anniversary and special occasion dinners. We've taken friends and family at times bragging on this place. The food has always been great as well as the service. I took my cousin and her husband couple months ago and they loved it. Especially the veal. Not many places do it right. Last night, we stopped and I have to say, was a bit disappointed for the first time. We ordered calamari like we always do. It wasn't as good as it once was. It was chewy and not battered as before. Don't know if they changed recipe or product supplier. I ordered veal and shrimp. While it was tasty with plenty of noodles and sauce, the veal was tender but was a bit surprised it only had 3 shrimp. Can't say anything bad about the brick oven pizza. Great as always! I hope next visit calamari is better. read more

The Alfredo here is made with fresh noodles they cut. They are very tasty. I miss the bread sticks that they used to give you with it. The staff is friendly and it was ready to pick up when i arrived. read more

We ordered scafa pizza. It was very good except a little bit undercooked dough. We will try this one again be asking in advance for a crispier dough. The pizza was five stars, however the owner and employees are rude. We ordered the brick oven margarita and a half cheese/half meatball pizza (on the menu, nothing complicated). It was some of the best pizza I've had outside of New Jersey/New York. I was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. Had no issues at all over the phone. I showed up in about 20 minutes and waited which was fine, but while I was waiting the owner was asking about my order to the cashier and seemed frustrated. The cashier told him the person who ordered it was stupid (meaning me, not realizing I was that customer waiting right in front of them, listening) they proceeded to talk shit about my order and how people don't know how to order food, and then he calls me to clarify the order as I'm sitting right there, gets off the phone, then talks more shit about my order to his employees. It was pretty funny once the cashier realized I was the customer they were talking shit about. read more

I wrote the previous review quickly as you got a 10% off if you wrote a review. I went again on October 28, 2020 as I had very rare work travel to Spotsylvania County! I wanted to try to make sure I could time this for the 11-2 time range to get the lunch special. Weighing whether to eat first or after my work, I knew my timing should be ok and arrived at 1:45 after I finished the work. The server was friendly. The bread was not the sliced bread and just a breadstick (like Olive Garden style) because of Covid. The bread wasn't as good, but still good. The pasta was outstanding. On a family roadtrip, we ran into some nasty I-95 traffic and decided to exit for some dinner. Scafa's Italian Restaurant was the first and best option that popped up, and we are glad it did. They brought out the kid's spaghetti for our daughters very quickly, which really helps in keeping a peaceful table. Soon after that followed our Greek salad, which was big enough to split among three of us. While I am not a fan of iceberg lettuce, everything else on this salad was excellent. The sliced carrots and anchovies were a nice house twist to this classic salad. Due to certain topping dislikes / reactions, and the high cost of getting individual pizzas, we agreed on splitting a shrimp scampi pizza. The shrimp were definitely overcooked and the crust was too thick for a place that boasts a woodfired brick pizza oven, but for a standard American-style pizza, this was pretty good. We finished off by sharing tiramisu and a cannoli. Both of these were excellent! The tiramisu had a nice coffee essence to it, while the cannoli had a crunchy shell with lots of cinnamon baked in. Highly recommended! For a chance discovery, this was a very pleasant surprise. I guess we should thank the long line of cars on I-95 for helping us find a good meal. read more

Date of visit: May 26, 2021 After hearing such glowing reports of Scafa's and also trying to find THE best Philly cheesesteak (yes, we are both born and raised Philly!), we decided to give Scafa's a try. Ok...so I've not heard anyone speak about the decor! Let's say that Robert Irvine would have a field day in here. PLEASE update the interior and get rid of the grapevines on the ceiling and the vinyl tablecloths and wallpaper and .... Is this place even Covid safe? It seemed clean but...the decor...Ok, I digress. Our server was wonderful (wish I could remember her name). She was so attentive and friendly. The food...we ordered an Italian hoagie and Philly cheesesteak. We upgraded in cost to the fries and onion rings instead of chips. We received 4 of the skinniest onion rings I've ever seen. They were mainly breading. The fries were shoestring fries that were not seasoned at all and not hot either. The hoagie was ok. The flavor and the cut of the lunchmeat was good. But it definitely needed the oil and vinegar and seasonings that go on a hoagie. The onions were bland. Usually onions on a hoagie are well seasoned with Italian seasoning and oil. The cheesesteak had a really good flavor with ample amount of cheese. But there was so much lettuce and tomato that there was not much steak at all. The table next to us had a pizza which did look really good. IF we come back, we will try the pizza and maybe order the steak without lettuce and tomato and see if we get more steak in the sandwich. My husband and I have been trying to find a local Italian restaurant that gave us the wow factor. We were hoping that Scafa's would be that eatery. We went in and the place was busy, but still had a few tables available. We found the aroma to be heavenly and were quite pleased with the Italian décor that they offered throughout. A young lady approached us upon walking in, and seated us at a small table for 2 near the counter. We had a great view to the kitchen and were looking forward to trying their woodfired grilled pizza that so many other diners have raved about. Upon being seated, we ordered a couple of waters with lemon and noticed that they had meatballs listed as an appetizer, which you don't see every day. They were sold in two's, so we each got a couple of meatballs to start, then ordered a 14-inch wood fired grilled pizza with pepperoni and onions to split. Assumingly, the meatballs were made earlier in the day, which is to be expected, and were brought right out. Coated in a thick cheese, and drizzled with a thick marinara, I couldn't wait to dig in. They were fantastic! Both my husband and I were now anxiously awaiting our pizza even more so, assuming that if the pizza tasted as good as the meatballs, that we'd found our gem. The presentation of the pizza was on point. Being woodfired, it didn't take too long to cook. I started eating my pizza first; my first impression was, not bad. But I started on the edge, which was a bit more crispy. As I worked my way into the center, the pizza became soggy. I couldn't even hold a slice up; it needed to be a fork and butter knife slice. Other slices had a very burnt flavor to them. Some parts of the pizza appeared undercooked, while other slices appeared to be burnt. My husband and I both ate 2 slices and we ate two each, just to be nice. We were extremely disappointed to say the least. The flavor of the sauce on the pizza, did not match the flavor on the meatballs. In fact, it seemed to lack sauce all together. We were offered a box for leftovers, which we accepted, but ended up tossing when we got to the nearest trash can. We immediately went through a McDonald's drive thru (my husband was still hungry), and ended the evening eating fast food. What an incredible letdown. Service was good, I will say that. I also speak highly of their meatballs, but I will not order pizza again, should we ever decide to give them another whirl. read more

Scafa's has been a family go to for a long time. I do notice that the food is getting more greasy as the years go on. The service is always great. The atmosphere is definitely out of date and questionable. I get it, it's a mom and pop place. But the interior looks pretty dull and outdated. Which could be a turn off to potential customers who haven't been in the area long. The food is still good though. read more

The sauce in my veal dish separated and was oily and gelatinous. Very disappointing! My daughter had plain wings and my husband had lobster ravioli both enjoyed their dishes. The bread sticks were just meh. I really wanted to like this place, as veal is my favorite protein and not a lot of carry out places serve it. My husband and I have frequented Scafa's many times throughout the years but this time was terrible! The service was bad. I chalked it up to our waiter being new. I ordered the chicken Marsala which I've had a few times in the past but this time it tasted disgusting and had a funny smell. I didn't eat it. I waiter grabbed the owner. He came around the corner saying "This is my Marsala. This is how I make it. I've never had a complaint before." He was very defensive rather being accommodating to a customer. We will never go back. Owner is great - from Naples. Servers bend over backwards to assist. The kitchen staff seems very family oriented. Food has never been disappointing. I think the food is great. I think the waitstaff is nice. However, we were once regulars and will not be returning because of a very rude manager named Sandy. We moved to Spotsylvania right down the street from Scafa's a year ago and we have enjoyed coming here with our children. We always order the same thing. A large pizza with fresh mozzarella (instead of shredded), grilled chicken and onions. EVERY. TIME. We never get charged any "extras" because chicken isn't listed as a pizza topping on the menu. It was never questioned the dozen times we've been in. If the first, second, third time we were told that chicken would be an extra $7 we would have said forget it, just give us a plain pizza. So today when we ordered takeout I ordered our regular pizza. Not on the phone was I told that chicken would be a $6 up charge and fresh mozzarella a $4 up charge. So we weren't expecting it since that's what we ALWAYS PURCHASE When my husband picked up the pizza and was given the price it was explained to him that these are not "regular" toppings and therefor he had to be charged a premium, by Sandy, who clearly has no people skills what so ever. When my husband returned home and told me of Sandy's rudeness I figured he was exaggerating and gave a call myself. He was not exaggerating. This woman does not belong in the service industry at all. When I told her this was our regular order, she wanted to know which employee charged us the wrong price so she could chastise them. I told her I'd be glad to come in and point out the half dozen or so servers that like to keep their regulars happy. She was not amused. I told her that we were regulars and would like to remain so, but she would have to make this situation right, her response was "chicken has been an extra $6 for years and I'm not going to do anything for you." So I asked her to show me where on the menu chicken was a $6 upcharge. It's not there. She also claimed she used multiple pieces of chicken so she had to charge us for two grilled chicken breasts. I would venture to say there was half a piece of chicken on the pizza. I will say the pizza was good (ice cold, but still good once heated). But unfortunately this restaurant has lost some regulars due to the rudeness of one manager who probably shouldn't be working in hospitality. Castiglias is right down the road, their pizza is just as good, they have a bigger Italian menu, and they deliver. read more
