[[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is quiet and not too fancy just dressed up a bit which is good because you don't feel you have to get dressed up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was great my lamb chops were excellent as were the vegetables. The desserts were both great. The wait staff was friendly and kept us in drinks without a hiccup.

Drink of the Day: Rum Punch - $5 Happy Hour Special

Had a good experience at Ristorante Renato last night. Food was good. My wife's chicken parmigiana was enough for two meals. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very nice ambiance, and the restaurant is right on the main drag in Old Town Fredericksburg. It's in a very old building, so it's an interesting mix of old and new inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food was a bit pricey, some of that being all the taxes. For two entrees, one half-priced happy hour appetizer and one half-priced happy hour drink it was $76, including taxes but not including tip. So, with tip, it cost us $91 for dinner for two. Pricey, but not outrageous these days, I guess. I like restaurants that have happy hour specials even on Saturdays for those of us who like to get in and get out early. Our waiter, Juan, was clearly a professional, and I got the feeling he's been a waiter for a long time (i.e. decades). I felt like I was at a high-end restaurant with him as my waiter. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My unique observation is that I almost set my menu on fire. I leaned it up against the candle on the table, which I assumed was battery-operated like every other restaurant candle these days. Turns out they have real flames on their candles.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I'm adding a pic from my most recent visit! The oysters turned out very yummy once again. Our happy hour visit was a lot of fun and a ton of food for an affordable price!

Renatos is a great Italian restaurant in downtown Fredericksburg. This amazing place has been in business since 1978 and their pasta entrees along with all of their other items are made fresh on site. You can clearly taste the difference! Zoey was our waitress this evening and she made our night wonderful! I was there with my family to celebrate my birthday and she was so pleasant and even surprised me with a birthday spumoni! I highly recommend this tasty hidden gem! My only comment would be to have a fresh black pepper grinder at the table or offered. All the other items are so fresh that adding that final touch of freshly ground pepper would be great. None the less, a must try restaurant!

We loved our dinner here on Valentine's night. Smaller portions of pasta, but tasty. The meals also come with a side salad and bread for the table. Highly recommend the chicken parmesan, tiramisu and espresso martini for dessert.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]It all went well, the food, service and the ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]You feel at home from the moment you open the door.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You are greeted by the hostess and more often than not the owner. The service is great.

Our waiter, Jack, was an absolute superstar. He was knowledgeable, attentive, funny, and incredibly helpful with our selections. He truly made the evening special. We started with the calamari and a salad with goat cheese, walnuts, and pomegranate unfortunately, I can't remember the name of it, but it was absolutely delicious! The complimentary bread served with their infused olive oil was outstanding and worth mentioning on its own. For our entrées, my husband and I both ordered specials the Lobster Ravioli and the Halibut. Everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. We also enjoyed an excellent red blend wine. By that point, we had enjoyed enough wine that I completely forgot to take photos of the specials! We finished with the cannoli special dessert, which was good, though not quite as memorable as the rest of the meal. Most of all, we can't thank Jack enough for the great service, laughs, and overall experience. It's rare to find food and hospitality that work together so perfectly. We'll definitely be back very soon!

Presentation was beautiful, but the taste and texture was not good. I did not even want to finish it and I'm a fatty. Service: wonderful, some of the best service I've had.

I pulled up today and was meeting family. I searched back up on Apple Maps to see the walking distance from where I parked and saw it said "permanently closed". I walked there anyway and saw the sign is gone and they have a note on the door saying they had decided to close. I'm so upset because this is my favorite place. I'm also annoyed that Google didn't even show it was permanently closed , so we all drove about two hours to come. I wish there was at least one close by to go to because the closest locations are Virginia Beach and Pittsburgh :/. I'm sad to see this place go.

Now, let me be clear: Nicole the bartender is the sole reason this place isn't getting the kind of rating you give a broken lawnmower. She was thoughtful, attentive, and smiled like she actually meant it--which is rarer in restaurants these days than a Baptist drinking a margarita in public. But then the food showed up and dragged the whole evening back down the hill. The flatbread pizza was so thin I'm convinced the crust started life as a Nabisco cracker. It was edible, in the technical sense. The calamari, on the other hand, was about 85% breading--looked like somebody dumped a bag of fried socks on a plate. Not greasy, I'll give 'em that, but mostly just a pile of extra coating searching desperately for a squid. So, yes, Bravo did better... but only because Nicole held the rope while the rest of the meal dangled over the cliff.

I mentioned this to the managing partner who checked in on us. Despite a packed house on Mothers Day, the restaurant was well staffed and ran pleasantly and efficiently. (We had the best server who said, "you're my favorite customers all night!" And I think she meant it.) Dinner was what I've come to expect from Carrabba's: really good! Per usual I ordered chicken Marsala with extra mushrooms, and angel hair pasta with garlic and olive oil. Wine has gone up a bit in price, but cab still comes in at less than $40 a bottle. It was a nice Mothers Day dinner even though (boo hoo) my daughter wasn't with me.

Despite a busy Saturday evening, CJ stood out with friendly, attentive service. He greeted us promptly, explained the Happy Hour options, and made sure we got our drink orders in on time. He went above and beyond throughout our entire visit, and it made a difference. (I'll flag that the waitress who also stopped by our table in the same section was very kind, attentive, and helpful as well). The hostess who took our name was also great, even though she seemed a bit stressed, she clearly communicated our wait time and set expectations well. (I didn't get her name). The food was solid, as always. While Carrabba's isn't the most authentic or best Italian in the area, it's consistent and satisfying, with a good selection of appetizers and drinks. Additionally, the ambiance is relaxed, not overly romantic, but comfortable enough for a casual date night or family dinner. Overall: Carrabba's might not be on everyone's list, but based on our experiences, and the level of service we've consistently received, I'd say it's absolutely worth a visit. And if you're lucky enough to have CJ as your server, you're in for a great night.
