After I paid, I stood at the counter to wait. As soon as the man at the counter took my money, he opened his cash register to put the money I gave then took some time to fix the money in his cash drawer . After, he reached below under the counter and took out a roll of what look like pizza dough. He began to work out the dough with his hands. J and I are a split decision on this one. I gave it 5 stars and he gave it a 3. We compromised at 4. We came in at 5p on a Saturday and it was dead. The lady behind the counter was sweet and helpful. I got a white slice and a margherita slice, J got a meat slice and a regular. We both agree that they use low quality cheese. But, we're both NYers and both agree that their crust is thin, crisp (our one point of digression, as J thought one of his was doughy) and foldable. The garlic knots were drenched in delicious garlic olive oil and all 4 slices were piping hot. 4 slices, 5 knots, 2 fountain drinks, $20. This is a true 3.5 star review. As a native NYer, I know I'm not ever getting NY Pizza in Virginia, but I know NY style can be achieved...they are trying here so I applaud the effort. We showed up with a party of 6 and were greeted instantly. We placed our orders...A split pizza with Sausage and Pepperoni as well as Garlic Knots, Chicken Wings and Three Sicilian slices. Now...this Sicilian knows a thing or two about pizza and this Sicilian just wasn't it. I hate to be brutally honest, but I have high expectations (albeit sometimes unobtainable outside of NY), I just wasn't feeling the overly bread like sponge cake with red sauce on top. It's not all that bad though...well...sorta...you see the garlic knots and chicken wings were perfect to me. I'll even say the pepperoni pizza had some good flavor too. The worst part was the sausage on the other half of the pizza. I'm talking full blown Armour Treat, something no one would consider eating even if for free from the Dollar Tree, Dinty Moore is an upgrade, don't do this to me again kind of globs of meat paste that somehow they pass off for sausage kinda catastrophe. In other words...stay away from the sausage. Other than that, we did enjoy our meal and the service was very good. Sitting in a pizza joint around the corner from my home and hearing Prima and Frank while dining with family brought some comfort to my meal. I am new to the area, and really wanted to like this place. I am on the hunt for a go to Italian and pizza place. Basilico and Orofino are fine. You get a good amount for what you pay for, and aren't bad. I just don't get the NY pizza or pasta experience I really want (originally from NY). I ordered DoorDash, and got a Calzone and cheese fries. I do not like the cheese fries. They are soggy and 100% flavorless and sad. The calzone also lacks any flavor at all. It is a cheese calzone, so just mozzarella and ricotta cheese. I paid for extra cheese, that is nonexistent. There is not a pinch of seasoning, and the only taste I get is a burnt taste to the bread. What is really taking me back is the amount of food that I got for $37! I did get a discount of $7 from DoorDash that covered the tip. So my total was $30. They add a few dollars in fees with taxes, so if I picked the order up, it would've been around $25 with tax. I verified that these 2 items are priced the same on the carry out menu. The pizzas on DoorDash are definitely priced a lot higher than on the carry out menu at the restaurant. They also don't offer pizza by the slice via DoorDash. I had back surgery and was hurting too bad to get out, so the $5 extra was on me, fine, worth it right now. But the calzone came in a regular styrofoam container. I have always gotten calzones in a pizza box. They're my favorite, so I've had quite a few in my lifetime, and have never seen this. Normally, calzones don't fit in these containers. The calzone is also less than half of the size of a standard container! And the container causes condensation on the bread making it really soggy! I paid for extra cheese and about half of it are ends with bread only. I received an amount of fries standard with a small side or kids portion from literally any other restaurant with some overcooked, dry cheese in top. These were a $9 appetizer. And like I said, flavor and texture wise are awful! I am definitely going to have to find something to actually eat. Every place is closed now, and I'm not going to McDonald's or a bar. So I guess Wawa or Sheetz it is...Compared to this place, that is a luxury meal. The app sampler or fry platters at Sheetz are soo much better, with a lot more toppings and triple the amount for half of the price. Both places have good Mac and cheese with toppings, and I can get a pepperoni/meatball sub, ciabatta, Stromboli, or burger that are way better in taste and double the size for half of the price, and these are gas stations. Hopefully if I ask nicely, DoorDash will credit or refund me. I will never order from here again! Here are the pictures. I pulled off the ends with nothing in them, and ended up with the last picture as what I could eat, if there was an ounce of flavor besides a burnt after taste, and any crispness at all. read more
