We were headed to another bourbon bar and walked by Scene when we noticed the Happy Hour advertisement out front. Yes, please. We walked in and sat at the bar, only to have a few drinks, not food. They did have a bar food menu though. I ordered an Old Fashioned and my friend ordered a pumpkin martini from the special list of seasonal features. Her martini was quite good, but my Old Fashioned was not good at all. The cherries tasted bitter and old. My next drink had a gnat in it. Two unfinished drinks is a rarity for me, but that was my experience here. Actually, I think that was a first for me. A couple sat down after our second drinks and waited a few minutes and weren't waited on or even acknowledged, so they walked out. This review is for a private party in the Scene Ultra Lounge space. My employer has their holiday party at Scene Ultra Lounge. The venue is quick to reserve for events working with their team reserving the space for 2 hours afterwork for happy hour event and they allowed us to bring in food from our off-site caterer appetizers for our guests. We had two team members taking care of our team for the event, played music in the bar area and allowed guests to order beer and wine. They have a variety of local and national craft beer brands. The two hours went by very quickly. They did setup a coat rack for guests in the back of the bar area. We also used their audio system with a wireless mic to make a few announcements at the event. Note they do not have tap lines, so you won't find any beers on draft, but they will pour your beer into a pint glass if you would like to enjoy your beer in that way. read more

This place has a great happy hour and is a perfect stop before any Red's game. The bartenders are nice and while they might have to look up the ingredients and/or make substitutions (ex: they were out of Peppermint Patty's for one of the drinks b/c the guys behind the bar ate all of them), the drinks I've had here have been really really good. Oh, and the bottled beer selection is decent, I had a Left Hand Brewery Milk Stout. Half price specials should have filled the place up, but while I was there, only about half a dozen people sat about the bar. I wasn't in the mood for a crowded bar, so this was nice. I do think that post Red's games this place fills to the brim with people. I do appreciate the comfy couches placed throughout as well. The large booths and high walls in the back area are nice for groups and those wanting a modicum of privacy. Their small outdoor patio is a nice place to sit and watch the random city folk walk by and occasionally comment. I could easily sit out here and enjoy half price apps and drinks. I have been repeatedly deterred to enter this place because of its unfortunate name and the folks on the front patio that can from time-to-time be caught pandering for your entrance. I've gone a couple times when the place has been empty. The decor is plain and the place is fairly generic all around. The layout is a bit strange as the entry area is much tighter packed than the back of the bar, this is a result of the bathrooms being right up front. This is not a very exciting place when it is dead. However, last Friday night I stopped by on part of an extended pub crawl. The place was jam-packed. There was nowhere to sit, stand, and I didn't bother even trying to get a drink because the staff isn't very good at it even when they aren't busy. I basically stood in the only open area near the front helping nurse drunks back to their respective taxis. Of note: coat check is available when busy and the bathrooms are pretty decent considering this is a bar. All told, I couldn't care less if I stop at this bar again and I pray to the god of bars that they change the name and refurbish as any contemporary bar should every three to five years. read more

There was a bartender who couldn't understand the concept of "just a splash." The other bartenders who helped me did a fabulous job of making my drinks (henny & a splash of coke) but this particular bartender couldn't comprehend. I understand customer service can be a bit challenging, and, at times frustrating in that kind of setting. People constantly yelling at you to get your attention because they want to be next to order their drinks. I worked in Customer Service for 20+ years. I understand the customers aren't always right but that doesn't mean the employee is right either. Omar, who I assume is one of the managers decided to take the side of his employee although he came over to "hear my side of the story" but his exact words were and I quote, "if I make your drink the right way, will that make you happy?" My response was "yes." Then Omar goes on to say and I quote "you can't disrespect my bartenders though." Hold up Omar, you have this all turned around sir!!! Your bartender cursed at me and told me if I didn't like it I could leave...I just wanted my drink to be made the way I asked. I wasn't asking for a free drink, I just wanted my drink made right...that's all!! So after she told me "I could leave if I didn't like it", my response was "I'm not leaving unless I get put out!" That's when she went and got Omar. This particular bartender had been disrespectful to my friends and I the entire night...she got an attitude with me earlier because I had questions about my bill. There was a lot going on and I wanted to make sure she wasn't adding anyone else's drinks to my bill, so I asked her about my bill to make sure....This obviously offended her because her attitude was completely disrespectful afterwards(please check my receipt & time stamp where I put as her tip, her bad attitude was her tip!!!!). One of my friends had an open tab she wanted to close out but we wanted another drink as well but it took forever for that to happen because this bartender decided to ignore us after I asked her questions about my bill. She was helping everyone to left of us, to the right of us and people directly behind us but she would not even look at us or acknowledge my friend, who made many attempts to get her attention. One of the bar backs came over so we got his attention and asked if he could grab one of the other bartenders to assist us. The only reason I ended up with this particular bartender again is because a guy sat down next to me and we started talking. He offered to buy me a drink. My last drink of the evening. He asked her for two Hennessy's with a splash of coke and that's when this whole ordeal got blown out of proportion. All this because I questioned my bill and I asked her to make our drinks the way we requested. Now don't get me wrong, I will give credit in the areas where credit is due but her customer service gets NO CREDIT!!!! Omar (his name was on my receipt so I didn't get her name but I can point her out!!!) heard her side and just believed her although I had NO problems with the other bartenders. I finished my drink, Omar (made it the right way)and left when the place closed for the night. The sad thing is, I'm always looking for new and exciting places for my business partners and I to throw events. Scene has a nice set up but after this, I'm like, ok, never mind for that idea. I'm not looking for this girl to get in trouble but she needs to be heavily coached in Customer Service. Her actions and the way she handled herself were unacceptable! read more

I am not a girlie girl for the most part, so these upper class types of places just don't work well for me. I'm happy to drink beer out of a can while wearin a pair of flip flops, so I tend to avoid these hoity toity "scenes". When I heard the name, I almost didn't come. The fact that Ultra Lounge was part of the name, made me cringe at the thought of swanky couches, and a bouncer standing outside giving me the evil eye because I'm not wearing a name brand that is visible to the naked eye.. and truthfully I didn't feel like spending $12 for a drink that wouldn't even phase me. Well despite my negative initial attitude, my mind was changed as soon as we arrived. My friend and I walked to the door, and the bouncer wasn't all hater style on us... we were dressed up, but he didn't stare at us to see if some secret name brand was hidden from view. Nope, he accepted us as we were and told us to have a great night. Nice. For those of you who follow my reviews, you know I'm all about some customer service, and this place rated high. The atmosphere was mixed and very relaxed. The decor is not too "you can't afford this, so don't even try," and we could actually sit on it, without being considered VIP and having to pay to put our butts on it. Drinks were reasonably priced, and the wait wasn't horrendous even though it was pretty crowded. The bartenders actually acknowledged the fact that we were standing there with eye contact and a smile, letting us know that they'd seen us. Awesome! We danced, and had a great time. The crowd was nice, not meat markety or pretentious like I'd presumed it would be. Also it was crowded, but not over crowded.. we went on a Friday. Scene. Well the name says it all doesn't it? I worked for W Hotels, globally recognized masters of designing and implementing "the scene". Dim lighting, crushed velvet furniture, sexy drinks and hot people waiting in a ridiculous line to get in. That's a scene. There may have been some hot people hanging out at Scene, but most of them were falling off their barstools. The patrons who could stand were in tight-knit cliques, eyeballing everyone else in the bar and most decided to leave after awhile. I ordered a Bacardi & Diet here. Anything more than that seemed like a waste. I save the 12 dollar martini's for places like hotel lounges in Boston. Admittedly, this was my first and only venture to Scene. I only stood in the space by the main bar long enough for a drink. The lack of seating upfront was awkward and didn't do much for the flow of the bar. However, I saw seating towards the back and wonder if the experience there is different. Scene could be a bar that just needs to work on their branding and decide what they are. Their neighbors at Righteous Room have done an outstanding job and if Scene follows their lead I just may be back for more than a Barcardi & Diet. read more

Ultra Lounge? More like Ultra Bore. This is a stereotypical "upscale" downtown bar. Or a generic bar targeting/filled with people who want to feel trendy. My friend took me along for a private grand opening party from 6pm - 9pm. Upon arriving at 7pm, workers were still installing the front door and painting the frame - there were sawhorses inside. After killing 2 hrs nearby - Scene finally opened. So much for the private opening party. And so much for my olfactory senses! Whew! The place reeked of sawdust and fresh paint. And I'm guessing the bar was supposed to be lit underneath the top because it kept flickering all night. The lack of preparedness was not limited to the decor. The cocktail waitresses and bar staff had no clue what they were doing. Waitresses wouldn't even look you in eye, it took forever to get up to the bar, and my vodka cranberry had an abnormally large amount of cranberry. I don't care that your bartenders are scantily clad in corsets... if they can't make a drink, they don't mean a thing. If I had to describe this bar in one word: Generic. read more

So I've never been to this place in the "ultra" club sense but I heard it is amazing for a number of different reasons. I'm writing this review to highlight a night and time that might not get the props it deserves. Wednesday nights from 8-midnight this place hosts "live" painting with works ranging from sport memorabilia to fine art portraits. The atmosphere is chill and social and there is always a live musician to complement the art vibe. All the painting are made on site in front of whoever is watching. I recommend coming down for gazing and talking or ...as an artist! You have a venue to be creative around other creative types and can bring whoever you want with you because there is NO COVER! This place is dope and the artwork says it all. I plan to come every Wednesday night and I hope to see who ever is reading this! read more

This is the place to go for happy hour. They have a great selection of drinks (including Rogue Dead Guy) and, at half off, we drank for maybe four hours and spent about $35. And the bartender certainly wasn't skimping on the alcohol in their mixed drinks...something I often get mad at Righteous Room for doing. It is also spacious enough so you don't feel like you're falling all over everyone else in the bar. This place may just turn into our new Friday spot. read more

I was very disappointed by Scene on my first visit but decided to give it a second chance, against my better judgement. It's not a bad place to go, but I would never make a special trip to go there either. The crowd is young and seemingly single. They also must be desperate because I got hit on a lot while wearing Shrek ears (I had just seen the musical and was wearing them to embarrass my fiance) or maybe I just look good as an ogre. My biggest complaint about Scene is that they do not have any beers on tap, according to their bartenders. What kind of bar doesn't have beers on tap?!?! This was a huge negative to us. The atmosphere was loud but the dj was playing good music. The layout of Scene seems awkward though and nobody was really dancing. if you're in the area, check it out. Came here at the end of a 10 bar crawl. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting, particularly for Cincinnati's putrid club scene. I definitely preferred it to Play, fwiw. The place is larger than it looks from the outside, although it does get crowded on Fridays and Saturdays as expected. Drink prices aren't outrageous and we were served very quickly, so that's a plus. read more

I really like scene, I think it is a fun/hip kind of place downtown. With a DJ and a decent beer selection this bar is pretty unique. The only negative is that it gets crowded in specific parts of the bar, like traffic on 71. OVerall this is a fun place to go and hang out with a group of friends. Okay- I know that everyone has their favorite types of places to go to- and I'll admit that this one is not my type of place. That being said, I've had a pretty blech experience the times that I have been there. The last time I was there, we were celebrating a friend's belated birthday- as she had been studying for a major exam and didn't get a chance to go out for her actual birthday. We got up to the bar and asked the bartender for a Birthday Cake shot. (I've also heard it called Chocolate Cake, so this might have been the disconnect.) He said "What kind?" I said "Birthday Cake." He said "Yeah, what kind?" What? Okay, I'd had enough of the "Who's on First?" routine, so I just dropped it and asked for something simple like a Kamikaze. It was SO dark in there, I could hardly see what was going on at all. I basically had to shove my way through the crowd when I realized I'd left my phone next door. In the course of pushing my way through the crowd, someone didn't like having to move out of my way- and got real snotty with me about it. I was sober and not in the mood for it- so I just kept on walking, and luckily that person was in a different spot when I came back. All-in-all, it was the kind of experience that made me feel like part of a herd of cattle. The coolest person I encountered (outside of my group) was outside on the street when I was waiting for my friends to come back outside so we could go elsewhere. Then he called me a hipster because I'd rather be at Neon's and I have a Twitter account. Can't win them all, right? read more

I've been holding off writing a review of this place for a while. I really wanted to give it a chance to not suck. Mission accomplished? I've yet to experience anything other than mediocre service and just-plain-lousy-to-ok drinks. Occasionally I'll stop in when their neighboring watering hole is packed at happy hour or on a night out on the town, and the experience is usually thus: 1) I order a drink 2) They are out of one of the key ingredients - like bitters, or ginger ale - or they don't know how to make it. 3) I order an "and" drink to keep it easy. 4) The bartender shares their service industry drama of the moment. 5) I regret choosing Scene. Scene, you've managed to not earn the first one-star review from me, but it was close. With the competition already hot in the 6th/Walnut area, you need to step it up. From the looks of it you do fine with the Bud Light/Apple-tini crowd. This is good because every place can't please every one, and works for me if it works for you. read more

Scene is a great Happy Hour spot. It has the same happy hour special as its neighbor Righteous Room. Half off Everything! You seriously cannot beat that deal. They seem to have a more typical drink selection, where as Righteous Room carries a larger top shelf bourbon and scotch. I did get a solid pour of Glenlivet 12 year for like $4.50 though. The waitresses were friendly enough, but I don't know how it gets when its busy as there were like 5 people in when we stopped by. Its definitely a great spot for a drink, especially when Righteous Room is packed like it usually is for happy hour. They also had some small bites and bar food things that sounds good, so we will definitely coming back to try that and indulge in the crazy happy hour deal. read more

They remember their regulars and take care of them like they're part of the staff. Great $5 apps too if you wanna nosh with your drinks. I didn't go to Scene when it was very crowded so I can't comment on the crowd. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the vibe overall. The finishes, tables, exposed brick, etc were nice, but everything just seemed a little flat and I wasn't a fan of the art or the music they were playing. I'm not really a snob, but it doesn't quite live up to some of the other options in the city when it comes to this. However, they do have great drinks and great specials. I like the menu of Cincinnati themed drinks and from 4-8 all the cocktails are half-off. So that's enough to make a stop after work. I got the Eden Park which was basically a cherry limeade and I'm now on the hunt for similar drinks anywhere I go. Also, it's a nice sized space compared to some. read more

It is very safe to assume that almost every trip I have to Cincinnati, I will visit scene at least once. The people that work there are very nice and cordial. Drinks are moderately priced for being in downtown Cincinnati (definitely make use of half price whenever they do do that though). Spent New Years Eve there and couldn't have asked for a better time. They took care of our group well. Had clean glasses and mixers up when we asked for it (and sometimes before we even did). Bottles are the way to go if you're looking to spend a little bit more and don't want to go through the hassle of going to the bar and ordering every 19 minutes or so. read more

This bar is cool but kind of douchey crowd at the same time. It is a nice size place but I feel like the last time I went here that there were so many people inside that it felt like a fire code violation, I could hardly move at all! Wow, this place needs help from John Taffer of Bar Rescue. A friend and I stopped in for happy hour last Friday. The place was dead and the two female bartenders were too busy chatting to acknowledge our existence. Waited about five minutes for service, then headed next door to Righteous Room for a drink. It was lively, we were waited on quickly, and the drinks were yummy. Our reason for stopping at Scene was their windows that open to the street. It was a beautiful evening so that could have been pleasant. We had money to spend but they were not interested. Their loss! I spoke to the concierge at our hotel about our experience and he noted the owner is a 25 year old man...the owner may want to do his homework on how to run a successful bar as this doesn't seem to be working. In case you don't know what you're getting into when you go out in downtown Cincinnati, the Scene sums it up. The young, not-quite-professional crowds flock to the large lounge in the heart of downtown Cincinnati. There was a line outside when we got there at midnight, but inside was not that crowded (#1. look like people really want to get in but can't). There was a front bar and a back bar, but only the back bar was open (#2. you won't get a drink in a timely matter). The music was loud and generic hip hop and pop from the last decade but the dance floor was empty (#3. Cincinnati doesn't dance). The inside is decorated in the typical Cincinnati lounge look of this year - black leather couches and exposed brick - and one whole side is designated as VIP/reserved bottle service. Flat screen TV's play ESPN all night for the guys that got dragged to a dance club. Overall though, we got in quickly and didn't have to pay a cover, and a visit here certainly makes you feel like you are part of the scene. read more

Terrible DJ. also "counted down to midnight" 2 minutes before the rest of the eastern US as half of the bar is watching the countdown from nyc so no one was on the same page.. When ppl tried to stop him he said " who cares we're on Scene time". Wtf?? Talk about anti climatic. Also they charged us 165 dollar for a 20 dollar bottle of vodka. The person who finaly contacted me was really nice, but beside that , when I did go in to just have a drink they wouldnt let me in. Scene Ultra is right by Ivy Lounge on Walnut. There is no cover at all. The atmosphere is great and the music is too. It gets PACKED in here, especially on Saturdays. So come early because it is very hard to get a drink here. The bartenders here always seem overwhelmed. Better to come in a big group read more

I love the music they play and the atmosphere is a lot of fun. Definitely a place to go for a night of dancing, or a night out with the girls. A friend and I were early for a show at the Aronoff so we decided to pop in for a pre-show drink at Scene. It wasn't that crowded and we sat at the bar. No one greeted us when we came in, gave us a menu or even made eye contact with us. I asked another patron to see their menu, literally WAVED down the bartender to ask her what the happy hour specials were (she said, everything is half off and walked away) and 10 minutes later had to flag her down again to get a drink. That being said, everything is half off, so that's a reason to potentially be back to see if the service will improve. read more

I have a good time whenever I visit this place. In my experience, the best time to come is around happy hour or shortly after while it's still early. Why only three stars? With only one bar, it gets crowded quickly and they run out of desired drinks. The bartenders can be impatient, so know what you want and order it quickly. Scene is another in Cincinnati's attempt at modernization and making bars that are more fresh. It's a smaller bar with not too much room but for what it lacks it makes up in a good relaxing feel. It has the VIP lounge area to one side and a bigger bar area. I've been here a few times and it's always been decently filled and really exudes a nice vibe about it.
