We initially had 3 sliding doors installed by this company with no issues, which is why we chose to move forward with them again in July 2025 to replace all of our windows to match. The windows were installed in September 2025, and while most of the installation went well, there were two major problems right away: one window was missing, and the front windows did not include the grids (muntins) I had specifically requested. At the time, the salesman, Austin, assured us the grids could be added later. Based on that, we moved forward. However, during the long wait for the missing window to be reordered, Austin left the company and the owner, Scott, took over. When the missing window finally arrived, it was installed with the wrong tint, which added even more delays and frustration. From October through April, we repeatedly followed up about the missing grids. Scott gave inconsistent responses--first saying he had them, then that he needed to order them, then warning us we "wouldn't like them," and even claiming they don't offer that option, despite our prior conversations and text records with Austin. After significant pressure, Scott agreed to install grids on just one window "to see if we liked it." What was installed was completely unacceptable--crooked strips glued onto one side of the glass, with visible adhesive. It looked nothing like proper grids and was clearly poor workmanship. When I asked Scott to come see it, his response was: "This is literally the best it's ever going to look." He was unwilling to address the issue or provide a proper solution. This entire experience, especially the lack of accountability and refusal to honor what was discussed, has been extremely frustrating. What started as a positive experience ended very poorly, and I would not recommend this company based on how these issues were handled. read more

I used Schaefer Windows and Doors to replace my whole home with impact glass. One downfall was that the windows took longer to be manufactured than expected but that is the fault of the manufacturer- not Schaefer Windows. His crew always came when he said that they would and took great care in keeping the mess to a minimum, they always cleaned up after themselves. In a previous home where we used another company to install Windows, this was not the case - I was pleasantly surprised. Scott always answers his phone or sends a message when he is unable to. If you don't mind having your house shut down for 14 hours for four doors and having one of the workers Pee on your toilet seat, not be able to communicate with his guys because they don't speak English, don't mind having your floor tile busted and the stucco ruined and having multiple things that were supposed to be finished not finished then go ahead and use him. We are thrilled with our new windows and doors. Scott was very professional and his crew replaced all the windows and doors in our house plus our screened in porch with an entire wall of hurricane impact windows! They are so secure and it's such a solid installation. A lot of engineering had to go into this, not just a drop-in-and-out situation. They truly did a phenomenal job! We chose the e-glass which we are so glad we did because of this Florida heat. We also really like the fact that our insurance cost will come down because we had our whole house done and it is now hurricane ready. We would use Schaefer again because of their knowledge and ability, for sure! At the beginning, we got a few bids and his bid was the best which shows his honesty... and his construction knowledge was key to changing an ugly screened in porch to a beautiful, usable sunroom. Stay far away from Scott Schaefer or Schaefer, Windows & Doors or any other company he might be associated with. He will lie to your face & tell you whatever he has to in order to get your money, but he will not follow through with anything he says. His guys are fast at doing the demo, but the quality of work they do is terrible, if they even show up. If he tells you it will take 2 weeks, make sure you plan on it being 8 months or more. If you want it to look good, this is not your guy. If you are okay with needing to have things redone twice, three times or more & then having to hire someone else to come in to fix things, then he's your guy. Scott gave us a price for installing 10 new impact windows, 2 sets of impact French doors & 3 regular size impact exterior doors & then a separate price for remodeling our master bedroom & bathroom, which seemed reasonable. He told us he would have several guys working & would get the remodeling done within a couple weeks & he would have the windows & doors in about 6 - 8 weeks. He said they could start right away. We gave him a 50% deposit to order the windows & doors & also a 50% deposit towards the remodeling. He wanted to start right away, so we moved all our stuff out of the bedroom, bathroom & closet & thought it would only be for a short time, since he told us he would have it done in 2 weeks. This was a complete nightmare! We would come home hoping to have good quality workers doing a good quality job. But what we would find was either completely unskilled, sloppy, crooked, unfinished work or no one would show up at all. Each time we spoke with Scott, he apologized and promised that he would fix everything and make sure it would get done correctly. We would give him the benefit of the doubt & let him continue, but finally after several months of nothing getting done, we had to fire him for the remodeling portion. We had already given him 50% down towards our windows & doors, & he promised that he would do a good job. Since he already had our money & supposedly ordered our doors & windows, we agreed to let him continue with that portion of the work. He contacted me to let me know he had the windows & doors & wanted to deliver them & that he needed another 30% down, as per the contract to deliver them. When his son came that night with the trailer full of what we thought was all of our windows & doors, he asked for the check, which I gave him. When he finished unloading, I saw that there were no doors, only windows. I asked where the doors were & he said they were too heavy for him to bring, that someone else would deliver them in a couple days. (Hindsight sure is 20/20.) I called Scott & he assured me that the doors would be delivered within a couple days. That was back in December of 2017. (Which we had given him the deposit in August of 2017) But to this day, May of 2018, he still has not give us our doors that we paid for. I have called & texted him multiple times, & every time he has given me some excuse as to where they are. I now know that he just took our money but never actually ordered the doors. They finally started installing the windows (while Scott was telling me that the doors would be delivered any day). They showed up one day and pulled out most of the windows, put the new windows in, but left them completely open all around the edges so that air, bugs, etc. could come in. Scott said they would be back the next day, but they never came. I kept calling Scott & each time, he would say that they are coming today, but no one showed up. Finally after about a week, with us having to put tape around the windows to keep bugs and some air out, they showed up for one more day, but did not finish again. Then, it would be several more days or even a week before someone would come back again. It took over a month for them to finally finish 9 of the 10 windows. The 10th window we had to have someone else come in and fix, because the window was too big for the opening in the new tile shower & Scott's guys broke the tile forcing the window in. read more

Schaefer Windows and Doors have help me with a Kitchen/Window remodel. I could not be more happier with the Cabinets, Granite, and Windows. He installed for us a 14 foot by 5 foot Island. Scott was instrumental with helping change the design to ensure we did not waste our efforts. As we first were told we needed a Steel Beam when we removed a wall between the Kitchen and Dinning room. He worked with our Architect to have that change saving us allot of money plus major headaches. He also installed 15 Hurricane windows. Scott Schaefer ruined our home completely! This is my first home purchase. I bought an older home that needed remodeling. I knew nothing about working on a home. I was referred to David Hobgood by my realtor. David was too busy and referred me to Scott. Scott went workers to my house who were racist to oversee work being done by people who didn't speak English. This did not work out well. They made huge messes everywhere they worked and didn't clean up after themselves. They used my tools and equipment and didn't always return it. Scott put in kitchen cabinets. The countertops came from another company that we chose. The countertop company could not put the counters in because of the poor quality of cabinet installation. They had to come back 3 times before the cabinets were right. The countertop company said it was the worst installation they'd ever seen. Scott put an interior door up between the house and garage. The front door had a gap when installed and did not lock. I had to make them come back 3 times for that and it still doesn't work right. The left holes in the ceiling where they installed electric. They cut through the support beams of our home to run electrical wires!! The electric was unorganized and had wires running all over the place. They ran plumbing to the kitchen sink using shark bites which then leaked under our floors and flooded the kitchen. When Scott went to fix it, we told him he could not send someone because we couldn't trust his workers. We found a plumber to fix the leak and he said the plumbing was done completely wrong. Once the leak was fixed, Scott send someone to remove the damaged floors for repair. He bought new flooring. 5 months later, he sent someone to fix the floor and there was black mold underneath because they did not remove all of the wet flooring. We had to evacuate our home for 2 1/2 months, rip out our brand new floors and new kitchen and start over. Scott installed our windows which have surprisingly not leaked, yet. But the sliders he installed are definitely not right. We haven't been able to afford to have someone look at it yet, but I know there's something wrong. You can hear noise outside extremely easily and my wife said she could feel a draft when it was cold outside. Also, the sliders do not lock properly which I told him about several times and he never fixed. Scott cost my family a minimum of $60,000 in damages and destroyed our home. We will spend years trying to recover from the damage he has done. read more

We hired Scott Schaefer of Schaefer Windows and doors in July of 2017 to do the complete installation of impact windows and doors at a house in Atlantis. It is now July 7 of 2018 and the project is still not complete. Along the way, after aggressively pursuing our business, Schaefer almost from the start complained about his profitability on the project. When he learned we were not going to use him for additional work, he demanded payment ahead of where I felt comfortable. I paid him anyway to try to move the project along. He mis measured windows, totally left out two windows, at best mis represented other elements of the job, notably the main front door, and ultimately refused to communicate. There is more color I could add but I will stick to the verifiable facts which are: Schaefer did not complete the work he committed to, he has not responded to me for several months, and I now have to pay another contractor to order the missing windows, repair the installation done by Schaefer, supply the missing parts for the installed windows and doors that Schaefer refused to supply and get the building code inspection done even though the current contractor didn't do the work. it remains to be seen if that can even happen. These are the facts, absent any color that I would otherwise provide. Conclusion: proceed how you choose, I will never hire or refer this Company. I have retained Florida counsel to pursue all available remedies. read more
