I hired this firm expecting legal guidance and meaningful representation, but my experience was deeply disappointing. From the beginning, I was told there was very little that could be done, then I do not understand what value I was actually receiving for the fees I was being charged. A major issue was communication. My experience was that the office frequently forwarded court documents I was already receiving directly from the county, but without any explanation of what the documents meant, whether action was needed, or what my options were. The emails often felt like simple forwarding messages with "let us know if you have questions," despite the fact that I was being billed for them. From my perspective, I was paying significant amounts for paperwork I already had, without receiving the kind of legal guidance I hired an attorney to provide. What made this even more frustrating was comparing it to my current attorney. My new lawyer sends court documents with explanations, outlines my response options, and helps me understand what decisions need to be made. That is what I believed I was paying for in the first place. I was also frustrated that I did not feel properly advised about the practical consequences of my case, including the financial impact that would continue while the matter was pending. Looking back, I feel like I paid for representation but received very little strategy, very little advocacy, and very little usable guidance. This is about the worst law office you could ever ask for, especially if you have a complicated case! I trusted them and paid them lots of money for them to do absolutely nothing. Their communication was awful to me and within their team. They had inadequate case preparation and poorly represented me. They didn't advocate for me as a stay at home mother. They tried to tell me I didn't have court and two days before my court date, they told me I did have court. My assigned lawyer Neelam went on vacation during this process and when I did have court, they sent another person to represent me that knew nothing about my case. I had never even had conversations with her before. She didn't even know how to represent me in court. Then I wanted a sooner court date and she chose a later court date to stretch out my case that I didn't approve of. Mariana was rude disrespectful. If you didn't want to listen what she had to say or questioned her about anything, she treated you like a piece of crap. The ladies in the front office gave dirty looks and looked at you like you're stupid. This has been the worst experience by far. I had them for over a month and a half and they did absolutely nothing for me but take my money. I have now switched lawyers and they have done more for me in two days then Schank Family Law has ever done for me. Pick a different lawyer!!! read more

I would definitely not recommend this law firm. Please keep in mind I use the term "law firm" loosely and with prejudice. Biggest point to consider. The cost for preparing a handful of documents and approximately thirty minutes of court time was $10,000. My associate lawyer happened to be someone I knew while getting my business degree, however that had no bearing on the service. They were unprepared, their staff did not communicate well with each other, and the level of courtroom effort was borderline cowardly. I realized I could have easily done what their entire office had without wasting $10,000. Be informed and make sure what you are being billed for and keep a record. For me, I was billed because the associate lawyer had to stand around and wait for my case to be heard at $400/hr. No services were provided yet I was billed for six hours. We were in the courtroom for approximately thirty minutes. They could have worked on a different case while sitting and doing nothing. But that would have been too efficient. That's what the attorneys do at this 'firm'. The rate should have been $4.00/hr. That is the level of professionalism and service I observed and received. Good luck to you. She informed me there was not much to the case I was presenting and I told her that is contrary to what another lawyer had said. This law firm is truly expensive, and they really do charge for everything even when something is out your control and not your fault, they don't care to do the right thing to not charge. To sum up who this law firm really is, they are just seeking to charge people ridiculously. My initial call was with an assistant, they told me that the law firm was pretty good at charging up front for a case so that you don't pay a crazy amount. That was not the case, I gave a retainer of $6,500 and weeks later I was at $8,500 and they still had the audacity to after that still ask for $2,500 more. At this point I dropped them as my lawyer. The reason I hired a lawyer was to help me with a restraining order my ex-wife is trying to put on me, my attorney showed up late and thats when they charged me because the attorney office called me telling me to tell the judge that we had 2nd call which the courts had no phone call or messages from my attorney office. The court made me go out twice to call my attorney and I got charged for the phone calls and email I sent to them and asking where my attorney was due to the judge asking me to. When the attorney showed up he was unprepared didn't have a plan but to only continue the case and I was charged over $1,000 for 2.40 hours that I was not expecting at all from my attorney to continue the case, my plan was to proceed and my attorney said we would lose against my ex-wife knowing she did not have an attorney herself I was left dumb founded because of what I got charged and nothing was done. The 2nd time was my CPS case my attorney called and assigned a different lawyer and they said she was good, my child support was set at $1,500 and I walked out paying $1,800 so I got screwed even worse with a lawyer and the lawyer that was assigned she was not even aggressive. I haven't even reached my main court case thats in December for my restraining order and I am already $8,500k in debt and nothing has happened. I provided all the documentation to schank and all they had to do is have a plan which I never was talked to in detail of a plan. So I ask myself what was all the money I spent for when I was not even defended in court yet,besides the CPS court. Do not use this law firm as they will drain you financially they have no morals to do the right thing financially for you as a client it seems that they just want your money because thats how I felt like what Schank and associates did. read more

Perhaps the worst experience I've ever had with a lawyer. First thing to touch on, the rates are absurd $325 for an email? Secondly do not expect any actual work to get done, there's a reason they want you to pay up front, they are in no way going to try to close the case but rather they just want to financially take every penny they have. So I contacted Schank and associates and from the get go they were on it. had a lawyer present at my next hearing and got the DVRO dropped. Now I don't have to live in fear of losing my job or custody of my daughter. I went to these guys in April 2021 and I had a terrible time with these guys and I will leave a little bit of information. I would be very careful with these guys when it comes to money, I wanted to get a divorce from my wife and I wanted these guys to help me upfront. They told me $5000 just to retain them which was fine by me. They then explain to me how money had to be in the bank at all times so that LAWYERS can run back-and-forth and do what they need to do in court with fees and etc. After everything was complete and they spent the 5k and I lost custody battle all we needed to do was solidify the easiest part which was setting up child support costs . In this time they wanted another $5000 after the judge ruled and visits with the court. The procrastination was insane because many weeks had went by, and my lawyer was taking his sweet time communicating with the other opposing lawyer and they wanted more money. when the weeks were going by and nothing was getting done, I reached out to my ex, and me and her decided on a monthly rate, which we both agreed on. at this point that was the last thing to needed to be done and we can go ahead and officially get the paperwork done for the divorce and when I relayed this information to one of the girls that was working the information for me and plugging it in to the LAWYERS, she got all mad at me and said she felt uncomfortable talking to me because I was communicating with my ex about numbers and us agreeing on child support payments. The lady that was working the communication between me and the lawyers got all weird and funny and hung up on me and said she did not feel comfortable talking to me anymore because I had communicated with my ex about child support payments, I was puzzled on why because they were taking their sweet time and we were entering our fourth week of waiting for the lawyers to go back-and-forth and agree on child support payments when me and her had already agreed on a certain amount monthly. Why did she? And why did the lawyers take their time?? They wanted to pour more money out of me and her. let me be blunt with you by saying we wanted to hurry up because me and her were running out of money and we both had already spent a total of $10,000 each . When the girl said she was uncomfortable talking with and made that comment to me I of course talked to another representative at Christian shanks and associates and when I did communicate with them, they told me that they wanted a $5000 payment or that they were going to drop me and not represent me anymore in court. I've been told Christian shanks and associates that everything was complete court orders were drawn. All we had to do was decide on child support payments, why would they want another $5000 on retainment? They replied becau of court fees and I replied back with I don't have any more money but $300 left in my bank and you guys have blEd be dry. The representative then told me deposit $300 into our bank and we will get everything done for you which they didn't and they went ahead and drop me but took my last $300 that I have in my bank. Obviously I was upset and I contacted Christian Shanks of associates and told him about this and the bookkeeper told me that she will refund me $310 and that was it but they would keep all the money that they got from me and they will not complete my child support divorce, and they left my case open. I basically got the court orders only but I did not get divorced and I did not get the child support settled all because these guys wanted another $5000 after taking $10,000 from me. I felt like it was a big scam, and they just got more money if not all out of me. I would not recommend these guys to anybody who is going to do a divorce or child support settlement. These guys are terrible, and the representatives that they have answering the phones are terrible and the only cool person that was there was the lady who does the Books and she refunded me $310 . Do not retain these guys for a divorce. They will bleed your bank dry and not give you an excuse on why and then make you feel uncomfortable because they are not doing their job. There are cheaper ways to get this done then wasting thousands and thousands of dollars. One more thing, they were charging for phone calls with the lawyer when I was dealing with them, they would give me a price sheet and where my money was going and I was spending $75 on phone calls for 15 to 30 minute calls with the lawyer. Every time they picked up a phone or every time they fax some thing it was $35. It was $85. Every time they sent a person to court to pick up documents. It was $200 it was $300. I've never seen anything like this in my life, when people are charging you to speak about your case $120 for 45 minute phone call. Also, they switched lawyers on me, they had one lawyer they told me that was going to court on my behalf and then they switched it and charged me for it W T H beware!! read more

I got a voicemail at 9am one morning. It said basically "I filled an emergency request to end your visitation. Court is tomorrow morning at 830am." I was 500 miles away, and at that moment, unrepresented. I called Schank and Associates and explained to the paralegal my situation. I was half paniced. She said she would see if anyone was available. An attorney called me within 10 minutes, took my story, and gave me some advice, and asked if I'd like their representation. I immediately felt confident and said yes, absolutely. This attorney did me a favor, as he was busy and DIDNT have room on his schedule for me necessarily. After he SUCCESSFULLY defended me with less than 24 hours notice, my case was given to a managing attorney. This lady who I'll call JJ, was thorough, intelligent, assertive, and an absolute star player to have in my corner. She was available via email or phone whenever I needed her. She was great in court, and she always shot me the straight truth regardless of how tough it might have been to hear. Once my case got "complicated" she asked if I would be comfortable allowing a Family Law Specialist Attorney handle the next few steps. I of course was reluctant to agree, but she assured me he was great at what he does. And she was 100% correct. He represented me beyond my expectations. He was knowledgeable. Extremely hard work working, and did everything I asked of him. He took the time to counsel me on multiple occasions... which I truly needed. He never spoke down to me, and always treated me with respect. This team of attorneys, was above and beyond excellent. I called and spoke with Lisa on Monday at noon to discuss hiring Schank & Associates for my custody case. Lisa told me that due to a ruling being made within the past 2 months that there was not anything they could help me with unless I got some sort of confirmation from CPS that the investigation had some new findings. Ok understandable, but the inclination I was receiving from her is that they did not want to handle my case. Thats also fine. She told me that she would forward me her information at the end of the conversation. This did not happen. That is also fine, because i did not expect a call back from them just from the conversation that we just had. On Thursday of the same week I get a call from Lisa while I am sitting with a customer. Due to to the ongoing custody & CPS situations I answer my phone whenever it rings. I answer "Hello", she states is this Lucifer oh I mean Lucius. I almost dropped my phone I was so upset. I Jeanette Ruiz is requesting my FULL REFUND $3,500 back to me due to many reasons that i have to end my service with Shank Associates. since the begging of my service back in may i had personally  asked for a Female lawyer due to the fact that I am  not comfortable with a male lawyer. I was told Jennifer Joslin would be assisting me though my case. After the month of June goes by, i didn't hear anything from the office my court day was approaching quick so i decided to give the office a call on June 23, 2020. I talked to Jennifer Via email to come to find out my mediation appointment was the next morning June 24, 2020. After finding out mediation day was tomorrow i didn't know what to expect so Attorney Ralph gave me a call that night around 9:00 pm to explain mediation. i didn't hear anything back from the office since the 23rd of June until i tried calling MULTIPLE  times to the office trying to speak to Jennifer, Ralph, or even Brenda but no one would return my call. So On July 7th, 2020 the day before my court Jennifer emails me that she is no longer my lawyer also just in a one sentience email she told me Ralph will be taking over my case. The night before the court around 4:00 pm called several time to contact Ralph to ask what time my court was and what time did he want to meet with me to go over what i wanted to get in court. no one returned my call the next day i drove to the court at 7:30 am to check what time i had court and where i had to go. at this point i am  scared no one will show up to my court I'm nervous as is i drove back home until my court time. at this point its 9 am i call the office and they front office tells me " your court is at 10:30 Attorney KELLY should be there by 10 am represent you". 10 am comes around KELLY no were to be found i wait until 10:25 am Finally KELLY shows up and tells me I'm sorry can you give me a brief description of your case . KELLY said i didn't have a chance to study your file. at this point its 5 minutes before my hearing is going to start i feel like crying and I felt like  telling KELLY to go home I got this on my own. My mediation report was not handed to me  until i got into my hearing. When KELLY and I sat down i noticed he was not dressed professionally. While the other hearings were going on KELLY and my ex husbands lawyer went outside to speak  then pulled me out of the court room. to tell me to agree with his schedule that way we did not  have to fight to much. I disagreed with him i told him clearly my ex husband is not a good father... Also i had told KELLY  that my ex husband had gave me 4 money orders signed to him self KELLY told me to give him all the money orders back.. well till this day my ex husband has not given me back no money for my son at the moment Covid 19 took my job and I needed  some of that money to help get some clothes but since KELLY IS IRRESPONSIBLE i do not get no type of help... THANKS KELLY............... my ex husband  works full time never pays attention to my son, my ex husband give my 2 YEAR  old COFFEE, brings him back home with pooped clothes i have proof of it. he does not buckle my son up when he takes him... i clearly told KELLY my ex husband was lying KELLY DID NOT SAY A WORD TO THE JUDGE  ABOUT WHAT I HAD TOLD HIM . The day of court i had told KELLY to tell the judge to not give my ex husband  permission to take my son on vacation out of the county of Riverside Ca or San Bernardino Ca due to the covid 19 but guess what KELLY  did NOT  speak up for me!!!!!!!!!!!!! on  august 4th 2020 i had to get  my 2 year old TESTED  for covid 19 because KELLY did not do his job correctly. seemed to me that KELLY was on my ex husbands side.. YOU WANT HIS NUMBER KELLY YOU CAN BE HIS NEW LAWYER!!!! After we got out of our hearing i cried to KELLY why didn't he fight for more custody for me.. My ex husband is a horrible person he is capable of a lot of things this man dose not have legal documents he can take my child out of the USA  and i wont be able to find him iv never been to this man's hometown in GUATEMALA!!!!!.... Now even knowing what my ex husband had done to me KELLY still let EVERYTHING SLIDE to me this is the worst service i had ever had in my life..... on the day i called to terminate my service i find out KELLY set another court date for for  august 19th 2020 witch is for spouse support why would you set another court date for the same thing we have a court date on September 8th 2020 also when i called back on July 22, 2020 Veronica had told me my current balance was $1,200 or something around that amount now she tells me i only get $515 this is not fair i should get all my money back since your service was the worst ever and now i have to get another attorney to fix KELLY'S  errors Thanks to KELLY i got 40 % custody when i was fighting for more custody. Stay clear!!! They talk a great game in consultation. Attorney was totally unprepared in court. Did not file all the paperwork required which almost cost the case. Cost was triple then what was projected.They require A LOT of up front money that they surely use all of it on bogus charges. You will never get a return on funds.
