We needed our roof replaced after living in the house for almost 20 years and having no idea when it was last updated, so we got a few quotes and while Schantz was not the cheapest, we felt better about the team and level of service we were going to get vs 2 more well known brands we asked to quote, one of which was higher and the other cheaper. We were not let down as there was a personal touch through the entire process. We were also able to upgrade the house to architectural shingles which really improved our home value. We decided to replace our 20 year old roof, gutters and some siding on our almost 40 year old house. We obtained 3 estimates that were fairly close with Schantz in the middle. Part of our roofing replacement solution included a 7 year old porch roof that one company, due to the existing roof being glued on, over engineered to replace and another overlooked entirely. Schantz He suggested to not replace it now as it wasn't leaking or necessary. They also said we had another 5 years left on the existing home roof. Since we are in our mid 70's and things are not getting cheaper we opted to replace it now before the leaks and/or problems began but we appreciated the honesty. We chose GAF Timberline Ultra HDZ shingles with Golden Pledge limited warranty. As the work was being scheduled we were in constant contact with Liz who did all of the scheduling. She is one hell of an asset to her company and is a great communicator. The quality of work on the roof replacement was extraordinary as tarp was placed all around the house and the dumpster had rubber tires so as not to ruin our expensive aggregate driveway. Liz even called them to make a dry run before work started to calm our fears. Roof and clean up was done in one 90 degree day. Next the siding was repaired and two "bird boxes" were replaced with hardie fiber cement trim instead of wood. These are portions of the soffits that had unfortunately rotted. Finally, the 30 year old Leafguard gutters were replaced with new 6 inch gutters and Raindrop gutter guards. Our Leafguard gutters had lost their effectiveness due to black mold growth on the critical edges that move the water into the gutter. The Raindrop reviews are amazing and we feel are a big improvement. So quality communication and service, quality sub contractors, quality choice of materials and complete honesty have given us peace of mind in the work done by Schantz. From now on all our home improvement will be done by Schantz. BTW no deposit was required and we paid upon completion of the total job. read more

Grrr.. more house repairs. My ghetto-licious house had no gutters on it when I bought it except for this 5 foot stretch over my back steps. When I removed the back steps to put in a deck, the gutter was too short to cover the deck and water was getting all over my precious new baby. Time for a new gutter. booo. I called around, but most of the large companies thought that 20 or so feet of gutter was too little to be worth it and most of the small guys would have to buy 10 ft sections and piecemeal them together leading to leaks. Schantz did neither. Greg, the owner, came out pretty quickly to assess the house. He gave me some suggestions on things that my house needed and wrote it in the estimate, but he didn't have an issue when I decided to get only some of the work done. We scheduled the gutter installation for the following Monday, but it decided to monsoon in Atlanta those 2 days. They called to reschedule, but no one showed on the day it was rescheduled.. I am assuming due to all work being put off by the rains. They did however come out on a Friday evening at 7 pm to make sure my gutters got done in the week. I was pretty impressed that they would make these guys come out that late. The gutters look awesome and are very inconspicuous up against the house. On a cold windy day I was walking my dog and as I approached my house, I saw what every home owner dreads seeing....a big limb sticking straight out of my roof. I called a couple of roofers and the job was too small for some to even bother estimating. I found Schantz on Kudzu and was also recommended another roofer. Both came out and gave estimates on the work. The first guy provided the estimate over the phone but Mr. Schantz came to my home personally and walked me through the history and capabilities of Schantz Home Improvement to gave me the estimate. I chose Schantz and they did an amazing job of fixing the hole in my roof and leaving no mess in my yard but they did it for less money than the the first guy! In addition, they followed up with me to make sure I was satisfied. A contractor providing good customer service is like having a good foot rub...it happens rarely but you really enjoy it when you can. I noticed a small leak in my roof. Dreading the probability of it costing an arm and a leg, and the pursuit of calling roofers, I tried Yelp and found these guys right away. They were the first and only phone call I made! The woman who answered the phone was really nice and helpful. I left my info and she said someone would be calling back to set up an appointment. About an hour later Dan called and we set an appointment. Definitely 5 star service so far! I was feling pretty good... Dan was awesome. He could see my roof right from his computer (WHA?!?!) and had an idea of what it might be. Dan was really flexible with my schedule too. Hecame out right on time. After a little small talk he was up on the roof. Dan confirmed the leak on the roof after he got down. Now this is typically the time when people can take advantage of someone's lack of expertise on the subject. And here is what made my experience so awesome... It turned out that there was a nail sticking up from my roof that was causing the leak. Dan offered to fix it, but he also told me it was a really easy fix. Dan could have just as easily confirmed that there was a hole up there and it was going to cost $500-$1000 to fix, and I would've paid and not known the difference. But instead he was completely honest, AND he told me exactly how it needed to be fixed. It sounded easy, like maybe I could do it on my own, so I asked him and he said it was definitely something I could fix on my own. In this poor economic climate its heartwarming to know that some people (even total strangers) still look out for one another. I will surely pay it forward and if I ever have a roof issue I know who to call now. I'm also going to pass them along to my real estate agent who keeps a list of good contractors. He was very timely, patient, and responsive in assessing the project and talking us through the various options and every other question I hit him with. Whelp I called to have someone come out to give me an estimate on the repair of a potential leak over my garage. In a groggy voice, the lady answered the voice "hello". I was caught off guard and apologized profusely for dialing the wrong number. She asked me who I was looking for and I said I was trying to reach someone concerning home repairs. She said oh I forgot I had the office phone transferred to my cell phone. Ummmmm k. So she asks what I need. I said I have a small leak over my garage and I need someone to come out and give me an estimate. She asked how old the roof was and she asked for the location of my home. I told her and she responded that they are not taking on certain jobs and they are limiting their service area. Alrighty then. I say thank you. She said sorry good luck with that. I had a small leak in my roof and gave Greg and his team a call. They came by the house within 3-4 hours to inspect the situation. He quickly identified the problem as an old nail (when the house was originally constructed) that had popped up. He sealed the hole quickly and I was able to get back to work in no time. I asked Greg Schantz to bid on 6" gutters for my home in Ansley Park. I got the bid and was happy with their reasonable price. The installer was very nice and wow, they are fast. They had pictures from the proposal showing where they thought best for down spouts, so they are awesome to use technology to ensure the "sale" and the "delivery" of the service matches. They took a check "in the mail" as a down payment and final payment after they job was completed. Want Peace of Mind? Greg and his guys handled my total roof replacement and it was a seamless job. It took a while to sort out the claim with the insurance company, but Greg was impeccable with his details about replacement cost and the claim went through just fine. I must say as I drive up and look at my roof (nearly two months now), I can see a noticeable difference in the quality as compared to other roofs in the neighborhood. Greg's team was prompt and quick. The project manager onsite was thorough and the guys were thoughtful and hardworking. Panina, the office clerk, is as real as they get and does a great job assuring you of the quality of the service you will be receiving. I had my roof worked on in the past and just recently had a cricket rebuilt on the roof. All three times that I had my cricket worked on had resulted in a shoddy job. Let me preface that before I came into the picture, my mother in law was quite upset at the Schantz company. Apparently she had already left a couple of not so nice messages that the work they had done had made things worse, ie: more leaks in the roof. What I eventually figured out was she had gotten things mixed up with another roofer, who did the original work on the roof. So I come in, and had an independent handyman I trust, go up and walk the roof with me. We figured out all the issues, and I called up Greg Schantz. Not only did he stop by on a Sunday to personally address the issues, he was quite polite, despite the mixup and messages from my mother in law. I personally apologized to him for my mother in law and asked if he'd walk the roof with me. He did, and spotted all the same things the other handyman and I had found, plus other issues we hadn't seen. He agreed to make repairs not only around the small area they had worked on, but also addressed all the minor issues/problems done by the original roofer free of charge. On top of that his crew spotted two areas without supports where the roof had begun to make small divots, which would later cause more leaking. All free of charge and done quickly, and professionally. So now a couple more months have passed and we're still getting minor leaks in the same area Schantz had worked on. They came back out and completely ripped out all the previous roofers work around the chimney and dug around and found a hole, no one could have found, as it was buried under layers of roofing around the chimney. This they also fixed, with a minor, and completely understandable charge, as it was outside the scope of the original work. I recently bought a house and noticed my roof looked a little off. I asked 6 roofing companies to give me estimates on roof repairs and, 'Schantz Home Improvement Company' is the most honest and knowledgeable of the group. They came out to give me an estimate and after examining the roof, they took the time to explain exactly what was wrong with the roof and supplied several drawings and photos to help me understand how the roof repairs will need to be done. They expressed that if it was their roof, they wouldn't do anything at this point because the whole roof needs to be replaced within 5 years so I shouldn't waste the money now. WOW, that was the first time someone was so honest and forthcoming. I appreciate honesty and as someone who has bad experience with home repairs I appreciate that. They could have given me an estimate like the other contractors and just taken my money but they didn't and that is why I would highly recommend them! read more

The staff were very pushy and were not interested in the requests or needs we had clearly outlined. They repeatedly tried to push financing on us when we didn't want it, just to get us into a $10k job. I looked into the products they use, and I'm in disagreement. A 20 min roof repair cost me over $550. Asked for a discount since it wasnt as serious as the estimate and got an ear full of made up reasons why i still had to pay the full amount. Hell I was just asking a discount jeeezz an probably used them for other services. We hired Schantz to paint the exterior of our house and we are thrilled with the work they did. In addition to painting, the crew did a very thorough job of caulking and repairing anything that needed it prior to starting. They were also very professional and responsive to any needs or questions that arose, and they quickly and adequately addressed every "punch-list" type of item that we had after they finished painting. Well I am sorry to say that this was not a good experience for me. I had Schantz install my gutters about 4 years. The gutters went up fine and they were fast. The price was good but now I feel like I am really paying for it. I was having a issue with one my gutters not working at all and water was running into my basement. They say that they never have to come back out to fix their gutters so it must be due to something that I have caused. Like I went up to my second story and messed with it...?! really? or some one else messed it. And that I was trying to pull one over on them or something? When they come back out they charge a service fee of $125... just a fyi. even though they were the ones that put the darn things on? Now is it possible that there are faulty gutter guards or clips out there or maybe the person did not install it correctly. I had a Critter company come out and they seem to think that Critter Control ruined the gutters guards and that is way they are not working properly. Lots of conversations on the phone..blah! .Anyways this is neither here nor there. It would have taken no time to just fix the clips or whatever and send me a bill. Just come out and fix it! Well it took them 8 weeks to actually come out. Meanwhile I call weekly to find out what is going on... They had to fire someone, they are really busy... etc. I eventually had someone move the gutter guard so the water was not damaging my basement and then they finally came out. ...they say I need a new gutter now and it cost twice as much as before. Way too much aggravation! Don't waste your time. read more

We had small leaks in our roof and had put off the repairs for a year. Then our windows began leaking too and it was time to find someone to help. I called Schantz after reading these reviews on Yelp. The office manager was very nice and set up an appointment the next day, the owner came out to our house, spent time on the roof which other companies had not even done, took pictures and explained how all of our problems could be fixed. The price was higher than a handyman would charge but probably better quality and we felt it was fair. The day after that two teams of workers came out, one especially for the roof and one for the windows and everything we asked for was fixed. The roofer found additional problem areas and fixed those with a only small extra cost that we discussed first. Schantz followed up and checked the work the next day. It has yet to rain again but overall the service and repair quality was great and we trust the problems are solved. Wish Schantz Home Improvement had renovated our whole house! read more
