What a hidden GEM! Minot - I did not know! My husband had heard good things about this place and had really been wanting to try it. We had a hard time deciding between breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We chose breakfast this time because we know we will be there again soon! I have been really challenged to find a good breakfast here in Minot. We have gone a few local places and could never get decent pancakes - and who messes those up? We have been going to McDonald's mostly for breakfasts. UNTIL TODAY. My husband ordered the haystack which was biscuits and gravy on top of hash brown potatoes and an egg. He also ordered a blueberry pancake. I ordered the Home Fry Combo which was made up of diced tomatoes sautéed with onions and bacon with an egg (half order), also with a single pancake. The pancakes melted in our mouths and the blueberry pancake - I swear I have not tasted blueberries that flavorful here at all. SO GOOD. The pancakes took up an entire plate, which is what I expect from a mom-pop type place - this has been my usual experience. The other parts of our meal were HUGE despite by half order. My entire large plate was full, and I cannot imagine what a full order looked like. My husband's place had four total biscuits completely covered with gravy with a layer of hashbrowns on covering the bottom of the plate. Prices were fair, serving sizes were generous, and staff were so friendly. This has been some of the best service we have had in Minot. read more

Wow! What a great little diner. I agree with another post, truly a hidden gem. Very friendly staff, fresh food. I'm a patty melt freak, theirs is diffinetly on my top 5, if not the best!!! Chicken steak sandwich was also great, along with the biscuits and gravy. Do yourself a favor, get the fries as your side with a side of gravy. It's homemade and just ridiculous. Ranch is also homade but the gravy knocks it all out of the park! If I wasn't from California, I'd be a regular. I hope to be back when we are in the area. Thanks for lunch! read more

First time in Minot and staying close by, I asked our hotel the best breakfast food close by and they recommend "Schatz" with hesitation we went ahead and tried what we thought was gas station breakfast.. now walking in we were surprised with a actual full size diner! After being sat we were greeted by Tonia who is by far a blessing to the newcomers. She recommended the perfect breakfast for us and topped it off with a nicely sized slice of Banana Cream pie! I had the hash brown combo which consisted of the perfect mix of Cheese, potatoes, eggs and bacon! All around hearty breakfast. My better half had the Chicken fried steak and eggs in which his portion was massive, although he eats significantly more than me even he couldn't finish his meal! Now the Banana cream pie was a Tonia pick, a true fan favorite now! We will definitely have to come back by here for at least the pie! The best part about this breakfast was that for the amount of food we ordered the cost was not bad at all! The restaurant is fine I always you to love going there when I was younger but as for the gas station side I wish I could leave a 0 star review on here some old white lady and I will use racial terms for this because I a 20 year old Native American woman and my boyfriend a 24 year old Native American man was racially profiled by her and what I can't understand is why work in a place where you are bound to see all kinds of people if you have a problem with someone who doesn't look,talk,act or have the same skin color as you so here's our experience with the lovely woman who racially profiled me and my boyfriend so my boyfriend goes into the store with his buddy and his buddies girlfriend I stayed in the car until our friend and his girlfriend came back to fill up the car with gas my boyfriend still being inside i remember I wanted something so I went into but before anyone of us went inside I told my boyfriend who's jaw is broken and is really sensitive to how it looks and doesn't like to be stared at because of the swelling has a bandanna on to cover it I told him he can't have it covering his face while he's in there he agrees and leaves it hanging on his neck so you can clearly see his face because I didn't want them saying anything about his bandanna so after I walked in I walk straight up to him holding 2 pint of ice cream and I started going through the jacket's looking for one for him and me I find 2 and pull them off the hangers at that point I have one jacket in my arms and he has a jacket 2 ice creams I then find a pack of socks and he grabs boxers again nothing that we have done looked like we were about to steal or rob the place I then find a little bag and a big bag because we're currently staying at a hotel so I thought getting big jackets that's not gonna fit in our bags so I squat down and then start looking at the bags then I put the jacket on top of the big bag and then hold the small bag on the top of that and stand up and walk around the little wall thing not 5 feet from where I was at and I hear " ma'am hello ma'am " not only being rudely interrupted but now she's charging towards me like I was running away from her and she finally caught me and says " I need you to hand me this stuff " now taking everything from me and my boyfriend's arms at first i thought oh cool she's helping us carry everything up front like where I was going before she stopped us and then she " said actually I need y'all to leave " being confused as hell I asked why do we need to leave and she wouldn't answer me just kept telling me that we needed to leave and I know you guys are wondering how this was a racial issue is because we came with 2 other people who were white and they actually put waters and other things in their pockets to bring them up to the counter and she had no problem with it but the minute I pick up a bag that they were selling and put my jacket on the top she freaked out if you have a problem with colored people and feel the need to follow them around the store and do the absolute most while they are in your presence then your in the wrong line of work and you need to get a different job or just be a better person as of now I'm never going back to that store and I will be telling everybody else that goes there to stop until they can get employees who aren't racist and are in general a decent person how sad I'll pray for her read more

Went in for lunch today. First visit to this place. It was the Sunday lunch rush. The sign said, "seat yourself." Most days this probably works. On a Sunday at lunch not so much. You had to wonder around the place lurking trying to find an open/table or booth. Then you practically had to hover over the guests leaving and squat as the servers tried to work around you to bus the tables. Get seated and it was about 5 minutes before someone brought us menus and about another ten before we saw our waitress. Placed orders and waited for food. Good arrived and all orders were correct. The serving portions were generous. Food tasted very good. They wouldn't allow the toast on the kids meal to be substituted for a pancake, so order a side pancake and told them to keep the toast as it would only go to waste. Paid at the counter and all was done. They have a huge selection of homemade desserts. Did not try any of those. This review would be four stars if the seating arrangements were handled better. read more

We decided to try this place out after hearing it over the radio in the car a few times and wow I was surprised at how packed it was, luckily there were a few stalls open. It must be good if there was so many people there right? When we got in the sign said "Please seat yourself" and we grabbed a booth. I ordered the Ruben sandwich with mashed potatoes and brown gravy while I husband got the chili sandwich (forgot what it's called already) with fries. The wait for the food wasn't too bad and we had a very nice waitress but we don't know her name since she didn't give it to us. Overall the food was average, the price wasn't too bad either. If we were to go back it'd be to try other items on the menu and not because we absolutely loved the food. We also had ice cream for dessert, but it was already melting and flowing out of the bowl before it got to our table. My husband joked about asking for a take out cup so we could take our "milkshake" home. Sadly we didn't finish the ice cream since over half of it did turn to soup. Overall I would have gave this a 3/3.5 stars but 4 seemed about right since service was excellent. read more

Stopped here to eat while picking up my sister from Bowman. The menu had plenty of options and breakfast is served all day, which is a plus. I ordered the taco salad which was well balanced and came with a side of chips, taco sauce, and sour cream. Only downside was that the food did not come out even close to hot. The manager and employees were not professionals and not helpful in any way- they literally refused to service us. We were there around 6:30 a.m, Thursday, May 7th. In a time of need and understanding that truck drivers are being hit hard in this day of time, my husband and I have been traveling for HOURS without rest. We were trying to print something off that his dispatcher had sent him because we needed certain documentation to enter the Canadian shipping facility. This was a grueling process because during the time my husband's dispatcher sent this, all of the printing establishments were closed. So my husband decides to go to this nice friendly-looking store/restaurant to see if they can print his document. Long story short, the manager was not speaking accurately in a manner where we could understand her: my husband typed in the manager's email address and it popped up as an unknown email. My husband then showed her his phone and she agreed that was the correct spelling of the email, the manager never received the email and got frustrated. She did not even try to accommodate my husband, she continuously sent him fallacious email addresses. Even though my husband was also frustrated from only getting 2 hours of rest, driving these long country roads from Texas, he persisted by showing her the phone and asked if that was the correct address- her answer was always yes, but the document never came through. After that, she told him "you're gonna have to wait, I have to make these sausages and eggs", there was NO ONE IN THE RESTAURANT, NO ONE- so why did she refuse to help my husband and make sausage and eggs for customers who were not even present????? After the back and forth (25 minutes), my husband decided to leave, because now- we are pressed against time! When people or associates do things like this, it shows how unaware, ignorant, and their inability to empathize with others. You should not be in this line of work if you lack these qualities because the manager's purpose is to be a great conflict resolver. If she cannot do this who knows what other mistakes she is making. It has been all over the news that truck drivers are working tirelessly, risking themselves of the virus because they cannot get the proper supplies to stay healthy, and not to mention, they are the sole carriers of all of our goods; and in most cases the same people that refused us service would not have a job if truck drivers did not deliver the food and goods in their store/restaurant. The website says this is a family owned business. If this is indeed a family owned business, they are obviously not adhering to family values. The website also states that they "cater to all over-the- road needs", this was a necessity my husband and I needed and they failed to meet these needs. My advice is either offer more professional development classes or get rid of those employees, and the manager should be ashamed of herself for refusing a truck driver service. I will be calling the corporate office because they fell below expectations. read more

The server was rude and the manager was a complete jerk. He just laughed about it. I will never go back there again. If you find yourself wandering through the state of North Dakota, at odd hours of the night, and need to stop for food and gas, then this is the spot for you! POSITIVES: it's an interesting alternative to Denny's for late night grub, great service, great diner coffee, large menu selection NEGATIVES: clean in a grubby sort of way, worst french fries (ever!), food was tasty but questionable in that sort of "food-from-truck-stop" sort of way. Its a truck stop with truck stop food. I looked at the menu for some breakfast and thought an omelet sounded good. The description on the menu made the Spanish Omelet seem like a good choice. Seem... yes, seem. When it arrived (very quickly I might add) it did not look like a good choice at all. It looked like a big pile of sloppy, melted cheese, with some red stuff oozing here and there. I assume that was supposed to be the salsa. I'm guessing it arrived so quickly because they didn't actually cook the eggs and hash browns beneath the pile of melted cheese. The cheese on top appeared to be real cheese (a lot of it), but the stuff inside the omelet was either melted kraft singles, cheese whiz, or uncooked pieces of egg. The red stuff that was supposed to be salsa was not spicy at all. I was pretty disappointed because I was looking for something with a little kick to it and with all of the different types of peppers and salsa that were supposed to be inside, I was expecting something a little different. The ham in the pile of mush was some kind of perfectly cubed rubbery substance. I'm guessing this is not the type of omelet one would find on a traditional breakfast table in Spain. read more

I could not even tell you how many times I was bumped by the wait staff. There was a huge frame with nine good sized pictures all related to the Minot area that I thought was cool. The only truck stop I have eaten at before are the ones in Grand Forks and the size is about the same. Food Appetizer - Wisconsin Cheese Soup it was loaded with thinly sliced vegetables. I would have liked it to be a little thicker Main Course - Went with the club sandwich. The meat was thick and plenty of it in the sandwich. Probably cut in house. The ham was fatty, and obviously no way of knowing it until it is in your mouth. If I would have seen it I would have cut it off. Dessert - We were in rush to get out. Service - Yeah this was lacking. Our waiter looked like we inconvenienced him before we ordered. I know it is pain to split bills but he asked, and he had a wireless handled device to take the order so it probably was not that tough. He had to come back multiple times to confirm what we ordered, which is good I guess so he gets it right. Everyone got their food but me; I told me he did not know why then as he was walking away "a kitchen thing". You never blame others. Future - Probably after a night of drinking, but I won't review them at that time, just not fair. read more

Well, ok!! this is The Truck Stop. Also known formally as Schatz Econostop I guess. If you want to do some Minot people watching on a busy Saturday or Sunday then this is the place to be. Everyone filters through here eventually, or so it seems and the place is super busy. Good food at very good prices and lots of people watching, as I may have mentioned. Of course, it is open 24 hours a day so you could come here anytime and probably see your peeps. The soups are good, and the hamburgers, plus the rolls and deserts are good. Chili bowl is yummy. Really, everything is probably good but I haven't had everything so can only comment on what I have had. This being the northern prairies, not much more to say than that. read more
