I have always known about the high prices at this bakery. However, I do give in occasionally because their quality has always been very high. This past weekend, I purchased six standard size cupcakes, three chocolate and three yellow. When I appeared shocked at the price of $25.00 for the 6 cupcakes the female owner stated, "but they're buttercream." I came home to try one of these massively expensive cupcakes only to find that there is virtually no sugar in either the white icing or the chocolate icing. All it tasted of was whipped butter. We were given a chocolate cream pie from here and it was absolutely delicious! My daughter couldn't stop talking about it. Since her birthday was coming up, I called 2 days before to order the pie but unfortunately they need a 4 day notice on that pie. I always buy at least two dozen of there freshly made danishes when I go there to me there the best & the guys at work enjoy them and im always asked to bring them in for them when im working in Waukegan. They have good stuff; more authentic ingredients than some other bakeries I've tried. I wish they were open longer in the day--I usually pass by later. Love that this place opens early. Great for last minute birthday cakes. I came here early before work to grab a cake for my colleague's birthday since nothing else was opened that early. Other than cakes they also have donuts, cookies and pastries. As you walk in you can smell the sweetness. I got a chocolate cheesecake which tasted amazing. And if you want to have them write "happy birthday" tag on the cake it would cost $3. Overall I would come back again to try the pastries and cookies because it all looked so yummy! read more

This place has 10/10 donuts but they are never open. Ive never seen a business closed more than this. They are also closed on random days and don't update their website about it. I'll travel 20-30 minutes just to see a sign that says they are randomly closed for that specific day. read more

I love this place. I first found out about it through a friend who brought me donuts from here and they were to absolutely die for. I loved loved love them so much- they weren't dry, they were moist and they had the most amazing taste. Dunkin' Donuts across the street from them is no match!! Be aware that quality comes with a price so of course they're a little more expensive than Dunkin but believe me, you'll think twice about have Dunkin' Donuts after eating these delicious donuts!! Let me tell you how much I love the quality and service of Schegls that I drive from Skokie to Lincolnwood just for their products even though Kaufman is down the street from me. To each their own but Kaufman is really expensive in comparison to Schegls and the quality is not there. My sister in law once bought the apple pecan danish and that bad boy was gone within a day in our household just because it was THAT good. It flaky, there was a good amount of apple and then the pecan along with sugar coating was the topping on the cake. I mean- I absolutely devoured it. Since then, I regularly stop in to get their apple pecan danish (even though they have a lot of other danish choices) but the apple pecan goes out really quickly so you have to make sure to claim it quick. The only downside to this place is the parking- it's so limited but on the weekends there is usually a line of people waiting to get baked goods from here. I first started enjoying the bakery when I worked at Fel Pro, which became Federal-Mogul, and is now Tennco. Several of the managers would bring in various baked goods to share with the staff. I have since gone there on many occasions to enjoy their variety of baked goods. While their cookies and coffee are fine, I find myself enjoying their donuts and sweet rolls more often. I still remember the speciality cupcakes served for my birthday a few months ago from Schlegl's Bakery. Purchased cupcakes today for another family member's birthday celebration. Picked up some specialty cookies and a couple of pastries for morning coffee. My only regret is not being introduced to this bakery years ago. The pastries were even better than my two "go to" places that I've loved for years (Allegretti's and House of Cakes). Presentation and taste were both spot on. Delicious. There are many delightful looking products in the bakery that I'd love to try. The premises were very clean and the cases had a lot of eye appeal. The ladies who operate the shop Kim, Susie and Lisa were very nice and introduced themselves to me. I was the only customer in the shop after the morning rush. Schlegl's Bakery is a cutesy little neighborhood bakery. The employees are attentive, the samples are generous, and the sweets are endless. My momma treated my sister and I to some cake pops that were SO yum. Dressed to impress for Halloween week, they made for the most delicious treat. The cake itself was moist and dense at the same time, and the dyed chocolate coating was the perfect topping. The decoration was out of this world. They were extremely large and took us a couple days to eat, but even after four days sitting out on the counter, they STILL tasted amazing. I'll be back to try out more treats soon. A friend needed some cheering up, and what better way to do that than with some sweets :) Swung by on a Monday afternoon and their glass cases were well-stocked with cakes, basic cupcakes and different types of cookies. I went with some novelty frosted sugar cookies, one shaped like a unicorn and another shaped like a sunflower. My friend said they were good, unlike other sugar cookies she's gotten from other bakeries, so I'm happy. I ordered cake for my gender reveal and the cake was GREAT. Everyone loved it. I am going to give 2 stars because firstly , the color of frosting inside the cake was so light that it was hard to tell whats the gender. That was a BUMMER!! Secondly, the bakery really needs to work on customer interaction and customer service in general. I ordered my cake through Suzie/Sue. The first thing i mentioned to her that it's my first time with placing the order and i would need help with it but still I was bombarded with all the questions about frosting/fruits/nuts etc and not one by one but ALL AT THE SAME TIME. And most of the questions ended up being irrelevant because that wasn't even the type of cake i was ordering in the first place. She asked me a million questions only to tell me ' oh but we cant do these with the type of cake you are ordering' Well... then why were you asking those in the first place? The whole process was extremely rushed, confusing and overwhelming. Instead of walking me through the steps and the price ranges, i was being thrown a million questions at. In the end i payed $56 for a simple yellow cake, no fruits, no other things. Just a plain cake that i paid $56 for. I Don't think i'm EVER going back there ONLY because of the customer service by that particular lady.
