Drive through was empty so picked up a turkey and a Rueben (rye), I wanted that famous sour dough. Took a bit to get home so opened up and dug in and these were fantastic!!! The turkey had a lb of meat or close, great bread and soo good, Rueben was not as big but spot on. The worst Schlotzsky's I've ever been to and I've been to at least a dozen locations. I'm an Athens local, I was so excited to move near a one, but my gosh it's so so bad!!! From being ignored by employees for 20 min at the counter, to the quality of the sandwiches, to the upkeep, and cleanliness inside the dining room. It's all horrible and it makes me sad cause I truly love their food! Today I decided to go because I had a $5 off coupon, placed my order online, showed up, they couldn't locate my online order, which I ordered at their location. So canceled the order and this truly is the last time I'll have a horrible experience with them because I'm never going back. It was just as good as I remembered! I ordered the Fresh Veggie, medium size, sandwich. Hubs got the Avocado Smokecheesy. Both were good, but I was envious of hubs' sandwich. Why? Well, because of the avocado--duh! Also, because it was hot and mine was cold. God bless these workers. I came in like 20-30 minutes before close and ordered a crap ton as an emergency for family coming in who were delayed by a traffic accident in Atlanta. The guy at the front counter was super nice and although I could tell the girl in the back was disgruntled (which I get lol I came in super late that's my bad) she still made sure the orders were made perfectly and made sure to supply us with spoons and was friendly to me in person. I went here April 9th between 220pm-240pm and not only did my "pizza" not get put on a pizza crust (someone decided that I should have a flatbread instead)when I specifically asked about pizzaa and their ability to make their sandwiches into pizzas. My sweet tea had no sugar and I was told it's because they moved the tea urns around. Now I could forgive this if when I was trying to get assistance the girl with this weird green hair and eye makeup could have bothered to answer the drive through window instead of handing it over to another individual. Because she was too busy refilling lids and straws.... And the pizza looks like it was just thrown together.... I have never had such a horrible experience at an eatery. After waiting 30 minutes in the drive thru line as the only car in line, I received my French dip sandwich without the roast beef. Only onions and melted cheese on a bun. Disappointing. So I called in on my way back to the restaurant, and instead of being greeted with apology and compensation, the workers simply laughed at their mistake and thought it was so funny. Plus, a row of stools lines a counter with up-to-date computers providing Internet access. I always go to Schlotzsky's in Athens, GA whenever I go back home. It is always a good clean restaurant with good food and plenty of space to sit and eat with friends. I tried to get them to make a Schlotzsky sandwich to go but they can't figure it out... They are just not that good when they are not straight off the oven. I was surprised when Schlotzsky's came to Athens because I've only known them to be up north and I'd only been to the one in Ann Arbor. I try to refrain from chains but I have to talk about this Schlotzsky's. It's super. It's very clean and the décor is beautiful with little hidden rooms where people study or just group together. I've adored Schlotzsky's ever since I first tasted it. I normally get the Combination Special pizza, 86 the black olives. I've tried their sandwiches, and though I love the bread, I think I'll stick with the pizza. Also, of the many locations I've seen, this one is the most uniquely built and elicits a dimly lit coffeehouse feel when visited in the evening. My only complaint is their ostensible inability to deal with gift cards. I was double charged THREE consecutive times, and one staff member seemed particularly unapologetic about the whole matter. On the plus side, if you like Schlotzky's, you will enjoy this location. It is very clean and nice, with good service. The patio is lovely, and for you nerds who can't stand to be away from a computer long enough to eat a sandwich there are Macs to play games and such on. The seating is set up kind of dumb though. When it is busy it can get very claustrophobic and you will end up with strangers' butts in your face and on either side of you. The main negative is that, well, it's Schlotsky's and the food is terrible. They don't use real turkey..it is similar to what you would get in one of those 99 cent Carl Budding packs. No telling what kind of mechanically separated garbage it is. This is unacceptable, especially considering the price. Horrible customer service!!! I have eaten at Schlotzsky's at least once a month since it first opened in Athens many, many years ago and have never had such horrible service as I did today when I ordered at the drive-thru. I ordered 3 chicken avocado flatbreads and confirmed the order, as always, and paid at the window. When I got my order it was 3 sandwiches. I sat at the window until the female working the window saw me and asked what. I told her my order was wrong and that I had ordered 3 avocado chicken flatbreads and she said no you didn't and took the bag back and said "here we go again!" This made me think my order isn't the only one she didn't get right today. A moment later a young man came to the window and asked what the problem was and I told him and said I would like to speak with a manager because I'm a years-long customer and didn't need attitude from his employee who didn't get my order right. He asked if I wanted a refund and I told him no, I want the food that I ordered and no more attitude. He said well the problem is she repeated it back to you and you said yes to the sandwich order. I asked him why would I confirm an incorrect order and especially one for 3 sandwiches when I clearly told her AND confirmed 3 chicken avocado flatbreads. Needless to say I checked my order before leaving. Of course I wasn't given a receipt and neither one of them provided their name. I was at the Athens Schlotzsky's on Baxter Street at approximately 4:15 pm today (May 25, 2020). If anyone else had the same horrible service as I did, please write about it. If enough customers - who are the ones paying the salaries of restaurant workers - share their dissatisfactory experience maybe a regional manager will step up and provide training to employees so no other customer has to get attitude when the drive-thru worker gets your order wrong.
