Went for lunch with my Wednesday luncheon friend and enjoyed it. The menu was your typical diner fare choices with lunch specials. We both ordered the pastrami melt with fries, chicken soup and rice pudding. Food was good, service was good and the restaurant had the "Diner" feel to it. It was clean, I liked the French fries, they were the steak fries with a crunchy outside. I found the rice pudding to be flavorful, just a bit dry. I had the pleasure of eating at the Schodack Diner over the July 4th weekend. The service was quick and efficient. Food was excellent and portions were huge. Going to make this short, because I know people hate long, long reviews. This diner has to be the worst place we have ever eaten. Our waitress, Ella, had a nasty attitude from the moment we sat down. Got things wrong with the order. Both got onion soup, mediocre. Husband got a pastrami sandwich on rye, mediocre. I got the Palermo Panini, so bad I could not even eat it. Chicken like shoe leather, pathetic lettuce and tomato. Bread way too big for the sandwich. Asked for dessert menu, was told to go up and look in the case. Dessert with prices was on the menu, however she would not bring us one to look at. We skipped dessert as result. Woman cashing us out at the register was on speaker phone whole time, speaking to someone in what I presume was Greek. Two good things: french fries were excellent. Coleslaw was very good. Excellent and fast. Even with no reservation we were seated quickly and a knowledgeable waitress helped us make fast choices on menu. The food was heavy, not salty, diner fare. My husband and I had our 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Schodack Diner on Saturday, September 2, just a couple of days ago. They set up long tables in the room on the left side of the restaurant so it would be more private. Erica, our waitress, was great. Always attentive, funny and complimentary. She couldn't believe that I was 70 years old, which made me feel wonderful. The food was delicious, as always, and everyone agreed. I had rather low expectations as I walked into Schodack Diner and this place met those expectations. I love diner food, but only when it's done right and this was not done right. I ordered the pancake deluxe which came with two eggs and sausage. I also ordered a side of home fries. To start, the pancakes were a generic boxed kind that were dry and had virtually no flavor. I drenched them with syrup, but the syrup was straight out of the package. Why can't places give you fresh maple syrup? I would happily pay extra. Next, the eggs which I ordered over easy, tasted extremely weird. I honestly don't know if they fresh because they tasted a bit sour. Furthermore, the home fries weren't awful, but they were undercooked and needed more seasoning. In contrast, the sausage was by far the best thing here. The sausage links had great flavor and were juicy. When it's all said and done, Schodack Diner is a massive waste of potential and a subpar diner . read more

These people care and also do the food right. The portions and prices are very good. I've eaten there twice and always leave absolutely stuffed. The seafood Kebob meal was fantastic. I've paid double right down the street for 1/2 the portion and this tasted better. Last visit, I had the shrimp on pasta, and although passable, this Kebob meal was leagues better. 3 for last visit, 4 for this visit, which makes it 3.5 but I rounded up because service flavor and portion was so good this time. read more

I've eaten this meal all over Greece, and although cinnamon is used in this dish, I've never had it this overwhelming. I tasted two bites and left the rest. Went out for dinner with friends to this delightful diner just over the border from Massachusetts. Well worth the trip our party.. we ordered a variety of things off the breakfast and the dinner menu. We had a very friendly waitress who was pleasant and on top of all of our drink refills and delivered fresh and hot food rather quickly after we ordered. The atmosphere was very casual and friendly. All kinds of groups in the place... young teens, families, and groups of friends & older couples. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals and chatting amongst themselves. I thought I had found a new place but on my 4th visit it was about the worst breakfast I had ever experienced. Waitress waited on a regular who came in AFTER me and my wife. Food took a while and when waitress FINALLY brought out my food, my wife had a long hair in her eggs. Waitress didn't even apologize, just said "You want something else"? I'm.... NOPE. Then I tasted the waitrmy French toast and it was ice cold. Then I said something and waitresss said " I'm taking off 3 dollars for the )hairy) eggs. Well the bill came and they charged full price, and the money they DID take off just negated the 3 bucks. I left and cashier asked how it was, I told her cold French toast and hairy eggs. No apologies... NOTHING. I'll starve to death before I go in that hole in the wall again. My niece and I went there today. We were greeted friendly and quickly. The waitress served us friendly quickly also. I ordered eggs with pastrami, while my niece ordered eggs with corn beef hash. They arrived in a decent amount of time. The potato hash browns seemed a little stale and the meal wasn't hot, neither was my niece's. The eggs were meh. The menu was extremely varied, with breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, American, Mexican Italian, and Greek dishes. We opted for wraps - a chicken bacon wrap and a turkey Reuben wrap. Both came with crispy thick fries, coleslaw, and a pickle. The food was excellent, lots of real chicken and turkey (not processed deli meat), prepared hot and fresh. Refills on drinks were timely. If I could give it no stars I would. My husband and I ordered wraps with chicken. The chicken was so tough that we couldn't eat it. We let our waitress know. We never saw her again until she brought our check. Upon checking out ,the owner (Lady) asked how our meal was. So we told her. She just kept ringing up our meal and kept shrugging her shoulders. The Schodack Diner opened at the 9 &20 split about two months ago, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. This Greek diner is a much needed addition to the limited dining choices in this area (mostly pizza places and fast food). The inside of this diner has a comfortable and family friendly atmosphere, which is brand spanking new, very clean, and modern with two spacious dining rooms (one of them fully carpeted), new furnishings, comfortable booths, table seating, counter seating and tile floors. I like the color theme which is a nice refreshing sea green, the same color as one of my former cars. The menu offerings and specials are quite extensive. The breakfast menu (served anytime) offerings include egg dishes, sandwiches, a good variety of 3 egg omelettes, pancakes, French toast, cereal, and breakfast sides. Note: Belgian waffles and eggs benedict are served only until 1PM. The regular menu offerings include salads, soups, appetizers, sandwiches (grilled, deli, hot), triple decker clubs, wraps, burgers, steaks, chops, chicken, ham, Italian dinners, Greek specialties, gyros, seafood (broiled/fried), triple crown dinners (surf & turf), and homemade desserts. The prices here are reasonable, sandwich platters under $10 and most dinners $10-$20 range. The lobster tail entrees are higher. Pepsi fountain drinks served here and they also have a full bar serving beer, wine, and cocktails. There's also a kids menu and a special senior citizen menu available. I stopped in for dinner on a cloudy Saturday evening around 4:45PM. I was greeted by the owner as I entered, who I informed I was doing a review for Yelp (I gave out a You've Been YELPED card, handed out at official Yelp events). The friendly hostess seated me in a comfortable and spacious booth. I ordered the Greek Moussaka ($10.95) which came with soup or salad and dinner roll & butter. I started out with a cup of Veggie Mac Soup, which was really good and had a mix of carrots, potato, celery, & elbows in a tomato base broth. The dinner roll was soft and very chewy. The Greek Moussaka arrived to my table, served in a casserole dish, piping hot inside and out. This dish was very tasty and one of the best I've had in a long while, which had layers of potato, eggplant, fresh zucchini, and seasoned ground beef, topped with a thick layer of bechemel cream sauce. This Moussaka was NOT greasy, which I really appreciate since eating greasy foods is getting old for me. For dessert, I ordered a Blueberry Pie ala Mode ($3.65) and it was served very warm, as requested with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. The pie was very good, loaded with sweet blueberries in a flaky crust. The service was spot-on and very attentive. The food was served in a timely manner and I got several top-offs on my ice water and was checked on often by my friendly waitress. The nice owner was very informative about her brand new diner and gave me permission to take some photos posted for this review.
