The food is just ok. Burger is like cafeteria food. Fried mushrooms were ok. Omelet was ok. Everything was just kind of passable.

A lot of room for improvements. We sat in the corner booth and the table felt like it was two feet in front of us. Really undersized for that booth. So we had to sit on the front edge of the seats to be close enough to the table. Come on, just get a bigger table. There was also some milk on the seat and a mess under the table that wasn't cleaned up from the last party. We both had omelettes, and that was the high point. Good ingredients, well cooked, a full three eggs, didn't skimp on the cheese. But if you're going to serve toast with breakfast, you had better have those little jelly packets on the table. There was no sign of them anywhere. Is this even a diner? So we only had butter on the toast. We had to go to a wake in Red Hook after work which is about 90 minutes away from home for us. We were hungry and decided to make a stop for dinner. I saw some reviews on here that said this place was bad but I respectfully disagree. Our waitress was super nice, funny and attentive. The food came out very fast and was delicious. I got a panini with eggplant and portobello mushrooms. It was amazing. It came with fries, a pickle and coleslaw, too. Loved all of it. My boyfriend got the Yankee pot roast with mashed potatoes and gravy. He said it was excellent. He also ordered chocolate cake for dessert and loved it, was very fresh and tasted homemade (obviously I had to steal a bite despite being so full, because chocolate!) We loved it here. It was quiet, clean and friendly with fast service, fresh food and very reasonable prices. I have zero negative things to say and knowing us, we will venture back to Valatie again just to eat here. I pass by this place every morning on my way to work, so today I decided to pop in for breakfast. They advertise Mexican food on their menu as well as having the usual diner fare. This morning I tried the Tex Mex wrap. I normally go for french toast or pancakes as diners always do those the best. But today I wanted something different. The restaurant is clean and the waitress was very nice. It was pretty empty this morning. Just a couple of locals at the counter. So the Tex Mex wrap is basically a breakfast burrito with egg, montery jack cheese, seasoned beef, refried beans and jalapeno peppers. Served with two hash brown patties. However, the roast turkey dinner gave me a recognizable urge for the restroom. In my urgency I forgot to check. Sure enough, no toilet paper in the dispenser. None in the vanity under the sink. We stopped here for breakfast on our way home from the Adirondacks. Needed a break from the road and something else other than Dunkin Doughnuts. After being seated for at least 15 minutes, a waitress never came to serve us. No coffee, no water, nothing. After witnessing 5 parties, who arrived after my family, put in their orders and get coffee, we walked out. At least 3 different waitresses looked at us and then walked by our table. There's a new diner in town.. and its a GREAT place. Have been here twice now. Once with he entire family for dinner and once with my son for breakfast on my birthday. The menu is HUGE and I hope they can keep things fresh with all of the choices they provide. Breakfast... coffee... delicious. Had an omelet wrap and will return for them again. Pancakes were hot, light and fluffy and had a hint of vanilla... just how I like them. Dinner... I had the street enchiladas (red sauce), perfect portion, very flavorful. Found the red sauce to be a bit mild, but when I asked for some hot sauce they delivered a new bottle of Cholula (http://www.cholula.com) to the table. This sauce happens to be a favorite of mine and was a welcomed addition to the meal. The kids sang praises about the burgers and fries, my wife had steak and found it delicious. Just okay ! Been there a couple times ! There Navajo wrap is delicious! But their Hawaiian pancakes aren't Hawaiian pancakes! They should be the pineapples and coconuts and pecans on top! I have had this many times ! When the waitress gave me my pancakes they were so plain looking I questioned her because it looked like plain pancakes! She informed me that the stuffed is baked in ! OKAY ! What happens when you bake pineapples (and it was just pineapples ) into something ? It gets mushy and gooey and GROSS ! The Columbia Diner (formerly Kinderhook Diner) opened for business last week, located on Route 9H in front of an old car wash, diagonally across the road from McDonald's. They are open 6AM to 9PM serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I can recall there was another Columbia Diner in Hudson several years ago. Like its predecessor Kinderhook Diner, the menu offerings here are quite extensive offering American, Italian, Mexican and Greek dishes including the standard breakfast fare, sandwiches, wraps, paninis, charbroiled burgers, appetizers, salads, soups, chili, quesadillas, nachos, fajitas, gyros, mousaka, pasta (saute) dishes, seafood, comfort dishes, roasts, steaks, pork chops, chicken and desserts (ice creams, cakes, pies, cheesecake, puddings, & jello). The prices here are fair, breakfast is under $10, sandwich platters $5.50-$8, and most entrees $9.50-$14,95. A Senior Menu is offered ($8.25-$10.95), which includes soup or salad, choice of entree, and dessert (jello or pudding). The dining room is still the same with booths and tables, fully carpeted with old framed pictures on the walls. I decided to stop at the Columbia Diner for a dinner break, driving back home from Hudson. I was seated and waited on promptly. The kitchen/grill area in the back sounded busy including hearing microwave doors slamming in the background. I ordered the Greek Combo Platter ($12.95 plus tax), which is mousaka, pasticcio, & spinach pie, served with a small Greek salad. The Greek salad was enjoyable, which had a mix of fresh iceberg, Romaine, field greens, carrots, tomato, cucumbers, green peppers, lots of crumbled feta cheese, and topped with a stuffed grape leaf (with rice), a nice touch. The platter arrived to my table very hot. The spinach pie was tasty, which had plenty of moist spinach & cheese in layers of baked phyllo dough. However, the pasticcio and mousaka were just alright, not greasy, but the texture was very dry inside. The ground beef was dry and lacking in flavor. Also, the couple in the adjacent booth told the waitress that the side of steamed broccoli was no good, since it was very soggy, soaking in hot water for a very long time (heard the feedback relayed to the cooks). Anyhow, I was very full and passed on the offer for dessert. Overall, not bad in my case. The pasticcio and mousaka needed more flavor and moistness inside and still be not greasy too. The spinach pie was very good. The Greek salad was a bit messy to eat, but I liked it, especially the stuffed grape leave on top, the little things like that matter. The service was pretty good and prompt. Like my last review (of the former Kinderhook Diner), this diner is a convenient place to stop between Albany and Hudson for a filling meal at a fair price. read more

The difference between breakfast,which is awesome, and dinner, which is awful is night and day. The menu is too huge to provide quality, fresh dinner food. Incredible variety from mexican to italian and all of it is sub-par. Waitstaff is high schoolers and, while pleasant, their lack of experience was all too evident. We had to remind our server numerous times to clear our used plates off the table. Finally, i gave up and sat with my used up dinner plates in front of me while my kids ate their dessert. The wings came with carrots and celery, but no blue cheese dressing. I had to go to the salad bar to get it myself. The burgers were equivalent to the frozen boxed patties you get at Walmart. The nachos were kinda burnt. The fish was also overcooked and dark brown. The mac and cheese was bland as dry popcorn. By all means- go there for breakfast. It's great. My husband and I have been meaning to visit the Columbia diner for sometime now. We like to support local businesses. Unfortunately going out to eat is challenging for us because we are both committed to the ketogenic diet at this time. I asked for eggs Benedict with no English muffin and no potatoes. The waitress adjusted the price to save us from paying the full cost. I have to say I did not miss the bread at all as their hollandaise sauce was the best I've ever had and the eggs were cooked perfectly. My husband got their triple play omelette. And thoroughly enjoyed it. Our waitress was very friendly and the service was awesome. I have been visiting Columbia County with my wife for the summer and in July we discovered the Columbia Diner and Giovanni. Giovanni and his father run the best diner I have been in years and being from Northern New Jersey the diner capital of the world that is saying a lot. These people have fresh well prepared food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have visited 14 times and have not been disappointed once. Tonight my wife had Chimichangas for dinner that would put a white table cloth restaurant to shame. I had a classic hot roast beef sandwich which was killer. read more

I went to the Columbia Diner for the first time tonight. Absolutely one of the best small restaurants I have been to. Not to much noise. There is a pretty large menu of items to choose from. My husband and I got the Greek Platter. I took about two-thirds of my food home. My husband took about half home. Very Generous portions. We did not have dessert, sadly, we didn't finish dinner. We will be going back to try dessert another day. Our waiter was very courteous and helpful. The place was clean. Definitely will be eating here more frequently!! read more

Disappointed to say the least. Went there with my 3 sisters to celebrate a birthday. We ordered and the young lady who took our order was pleasant. But my meal was aweful, I explained to her that my steak was hardly cooked and I can't eat it. She said she would let them know. She never came back to end of the meal, needless to say I did not eat it. First she gave us the wrong check, waited 7 min to get her attention. When I went to pay, explained to the hostess(?) that my steak was not cooked and I could not eat it. She said sorry and still charged me for it. Poor poor poor business. read more
