Whenever I'm spending the day on the North shore & am heading back to home, I'll stop by the Schofield commissary to grab my groceries. Store is always well stocked with the items I need. They seem to restock frequently even on the weekends & paydays, as they always have my Starbucks cold brew coffee. Old wilted produce, empty coolers and shelves, 13 people in line, (three backed up at one cashier because she was trying to reboot her computer), and only one other lane open. The Military Only/Express Checkout gal refused to help. Self checkout had TWO "monitors" but they were too busy talking about thier daughters new baby to give a f*ck, and also said "they couldn't help. No one at the customer service desk either. The commissary prices are consistently cheaper than other supermarkets in the area (Foodland, Safeway, Times). However, produce is a hit or miss, and sometimes they don't have certain items in stock (check out those empty shelves in my photos). There are self-checkout lines available (unlimited items) - perfect for introverts and those who don't want to deal with the baggers. Friendly reminder: the commissary discontinued plastic bags, but the baggers still provide services. Bring your eco bags or purchase a reusable bag for $0.35. For those who use Amex Gold, this commissary codes as a grocery store for 4x membership rewards. All in all, highly recommend to do your grocery shopping here. read more

I normally never have any issues here. But today I came in at literally 6 PM to get a sub with my husband. And I asked her to please put cucumber on it like I always do. And she's goes "we're out" with a straight face. As if this isn't a whole grocery store and you can't go grab more? Like why be so lazy? And on top of that had the personality of a rock with no customer service. I'm paying 16$ for a sandwich and you can't do your job? SMH. Next time I'll speak up but I'm just too nice. read more

Upgrading my review as I walked in for some bi weekly groceries today and had the most amazing customer service and was very thankful for the help. The ambiance was still great and enjoyable. The meat and poke' guys in the back were most helpful and pleasant and I wish I had gotten all of their names to put in a good word. One assisted me with sauce recommendations for meat marinades that I haven't tried yet for my short ribs. Another joked between brands of Kalua pork as I had realized the brand that I usually grab was already sold out. The third worker Gabe offered and assisted with cutting the short rib pack that I had chosen into thinner slices for me as those thinner sliced packs were already sold out. I was very very grateful for their help and friendly customer service. They went above and beyond to make this shopping experience a memorable one. I will be back for more on grocery day! Worst is the produce section. I've had to throw out so much fruit! In the long run it is cheaper to buy fruit at Safeway, once you factor in the cost of the fruit from the commissary I end up throwing out. Example, soggy red grapes I bought tuesday and will toss today on Friday! read more

This is tough.... We have lived many different places around the world. This place has a pretty good selection of food but the customer service is lacking. The manager seems to be attentive but depending on the cashier or bagger your trip can be thrown off. Deli tries their best and does a great job, sushi on point, produce is rough, and all else is well. This place is packed at all times, no one will be helpful, produce is sub par, meats are cheap, deli bakery is good, and know what you are getting into. Expect to spend time here with service members that have other things to do and employees that want to be elsewhere. Aloha! read more

I like Schofiled commissary better than Pearl Harbor. This one seems less crowded, and cleaner. The products they carry are the pretty much the same as PH but slightly different. The produce are somehow in better conditions than PH. I still hate the self-checkout machines. They are just as bad as the ones at PH. And at Schofiled, you can only do ubder 15 items instead of 20 items, and they only have one unlimited number item self-checkout lane. At PH, they have one 40 item and another unlimited item lane. read more

If you are trying to avoid the crazy hustle and bustle of the Nex and the commissary by Pearl Harbor then this is a good alternative. The prices are a whole lot better than local grocery stores so you can save a buck or two and you will not get charged for plastic bags should you forget your grocery bags. There is a great selection of produce (by far fresher than other commissaries I have been to) and lots of options to shop for locally grown produce too! The store is easy to navigate expect for this one aisle that has soaps and other household goods (when in my opinion they should just put it with the soaps and similar item in the other aisles). I really wanted to give this 4 stars because of how convenient and low-key this location is but sometimes the ID situation can get annoying, so 3 and a half stars if I could. I understand there is 100% check but I find it very rude how they were when my mom came to visit with me. First of all I showed my ID (but seeing as how this is a new post for us I had no idea my mom had to show an ID, usually she would just come in with me). Well, long story short then the lady proceeded to ask that if shes my mom then how old am I to which I just thought wow lady don't you see my white hairs? Grown women can take grocery trips when their family happens to visit. It was annoying to say the least and felt very unwelcoming, as if it was an imposition for my mother to come visit with me on my grocery trip. Another hiccup is that some items are usually not in stock and it takes what feels like forever for them to stock up on them AND once they do get on the shelves there is either only 1 left or none again. Get those items ordered please, especially if they go off the shelves quickly. Aside from this I do love that they have a self-bagging lane especially if you are trying hold onto your money a bit. So I'm still a novice when it comes to the perks of being a military dependent and as far as I'm concerned, the Commissary rocks!! I recall the first time shopping for food at the commissary, I felt like I was a contestant at "Supermarket Dash!" My eyes were definitely bigger than my pantry and ended up with supplies on my counters for a while. Imagine if you will, shopping off post at your regular grocery shop (Times, Safeway or Foodland) and paying $100.00 at the register only to come away with two to three bags at best. Shop at any commissary and you'll come away with fives more for the same price. This location is my favorite. It seems smaller but more organized. Fruits and vegetables are fresher and more abundant. Parking sucks on military paydays or when there are military exercises at the field next door. Lines are quick and I appreciate the cooler weather on this side of town. Hands down best prices for food on island! read more

IMPORTANT: You need a military ID to PAY for the groceries! This commissary is one of the few that allows guest. (A guest is someone who does not have a military ID.) You are allowed to bring in 2 guest. You need a valid ID to get on post and inside the commissary. Location: They are located inside Schofield Barracks in Wahiawa across from the PX. There are tons of parking at this commissary but it gets very crowded during pay day weekend. Meats: I always hear people complaining about the meats going bad but I freeze my meats once I get home and defrost a few hours before I cook it so I don't have a meat problem from here. I also buy frozen chicken and have not had any problems. Fruits/Vegetables: It is cheaper than other grocery stores except the banana. Banana is cheaper at Costco. The quality of the produce is good. Merchandise: Cheap, cheap, cheap. Peanut butter, milk, packaged cookies, oil, bread, deli meat and just about everything is cheaper than the other grocery stores. Baggers: PLEASE tip them! They only work for tips. They bag your groceries and can take them to your car. I tip $2 when I take my own groceries to the car and $5 when they help with my groceries. I tip $5 when my groceries are over $100. Peak Times: They are crazy busy around the Active Duty military's pay day. Most servicemen get paid near a weekend so we call it pay day weekend. This is a VERY busy time to come grocery shopping. The 1st and the 15th weekends are when to avoid if you hate crowds. Renovations: They are currently renovating the dairy section and everything on that end of the commissary. Overall, the commissary is the first place we shop for groceries whether it's this location or the Pearl Harbor location. We shop here because it's more affordable than the grocery stores closer to home. read more

Ok so I have to give the 4 star, it would be a 3 if it wasn't for prices. They have great pricing comparing to places like Foodland, Safeway, Wal Mart and times! As a matter of fact, SOME prices are better then what we see in the mainland. We buy most of our foods here, with the exception of meat and milk which is cheaper at Costco. We have been able to make many yummy meals from the foods they have to offer. They are very diverse in their selection, which we love. Try to avoid coming here on pay days though, or a pay day weekend, the lines get very long. The baggers work for tips only, so don't be a cheap-o. If you don't want to tip, bag yourself and go to the unlimited self checkout line or self checkout line for 15 items or less. Came in for a few things, balanced my produce on my stroller in a basket. They were gonna let me take out the basket. And then the lady that help me bag groceries also who I pre-tipped before she got groceries. Did not want to help me bring my things out to the car. They piled my groceries into a grocery cart. I can't pull a grocery cart and a stroller at the same time. I didn't ask them for help, and she looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language and that she couldn't help me. The baggers normally follow you to the car as well. Not sure why I wasn't giving this option. Since I clearly need some help to my car. The female bagger looked confused and not sure what to do., The male bagger told her just to follow me to my car. I just walked out. And that's eventually what she did.. The store wasn't busy, there was baggers even standing around.. I don't normally use this service I will carry my own groceries. But the one time I need it it was a big ordeal. And extremely embarrassing. I didn't think to get her name/number until I got home. Other than the bagging service. The cashier was super friendly, and the The meat guy in the back was extremely helpful. I don't normally come to the store , unless I'm doing something in the area. I've always been a sponsored visitor. Whether coming with my dad, friends, or now with Mr. G, it hasn't changed much over the past 3 decades of visits... Although, recently I have got to say, the prices don't seem as low as I used to think they were. When I was a stay at home mom, I needed to pinch every penny I could and then, I thought this was a life saver. Even driving from Makakilo to Wahiawa, I made it worth it. My $100 weekly budget would go a long way with meats, snacks, produce and others. Now, there are only a select few things that either I can't find in stores like Walmart, or they really are at least a dollar of savings per item. Otherwise, on a good sale at Long's or regular price at Walmart, the prices come pretty close. Is it worth it for me to take a short drive to Wahiawa and get through the gate and a bit around the base? Meh, depends. I'll only go if Mr. G is planning to go, and driving us there. I think I work hard enough and make enough to spend the extra 25c for my Maui onion potato chips... Don't get me wrong, if you live nearby, it could be good savings. But, unfortunately for me the prices, the mini journey and the long lines just aren't always worth the time and effort. read more

I was at the commissary deli today, 29 August 2019 at 1305. I approached the sandwich section of the deli and was immediately greeted as if my business irritated the employee. Older Filipino lady. She had an attitude about telling me what wraps they have, I only asked because they were not listed. She had an attitude in general about making my wrap. The meat they have prepared in packages wasn't even opened up, the roll it's in was just thrown in my wrap. It's not like I can prove it but you just know when someone is being an asshole when there is so much oil and vinegar that it pours out the bottom of your wrap. I won't lose sleep over this however I'm annotating it here and hopefully somebody does their job. read more

Yelp 365 Challenge #03/365 As a military brat, this was the grocery store that you frequented throughout your childhood years for food shopping. The commissary was the "Foodland" or "Safeway" for the military families. When I moved to Hawaii after graduating from high school, I gave up my military dependent ID at the age of 23. I kid you not, I felt like I lost my identity. As years passed and my dad retired from the Marine Corps after serving 30 years. I would tag along with them since they are allowed to bring guests in the commissary and the exchange. Last night was one of those nights because my mom and I went food shopping. Schofield Commissary is a pretty good commissary for the military community. The store itself is well-stocked and the prices are pretty awesome. I am the person remarking, "look at the price of the hamburger! Outside you are paying $3-$5 more!" "Look at the price of the milk!!! I'm paying double the amount on the outside!" (this goes the same for butter and orange juice) Now...if you are military and reading this...pay attention to what I am about to write next!!! Baggers and Tips... See that? B-A-G-G-E-R-S and T-I-P-S I would like to share that the baggers do NOT get paid hourly. Their pay is YOUR tips should you decide to be generous. Thus, the teens and the nanas & tatas bagging cheerfully for you because who else will work for tips only? My mom insists that I am being super generous, however, my tip is usually 10% of my grocery total. Another note for the military shopper...there is a helper and a bagger. Make sure you tip your helper because they are assisting the bagger who will be wheeling out your groceries to your vehicle. Never assume that the bagger will split the tip with his or her helper. I figure I would share my experience of my adventures to the commissary since there are active duty and military retirees on Yelp. So, let's review: 1) Plan and make a list of the items you need 2) Don't go shopping on military pay day (madhouse!) 3) Don't take more than two guests into the commissary with you (Note: you are not able to take guests into the Pearl Harbor Commissary) Have fun shopping at the commissary and remember to TIP your bagger & helper generously. read more

Can't go wrong with cheaper prices here than off post grocery stores! Walking out with a ton of grocery bags to fill my cupboards for 1 whole month and some for my MIL. Hubby doesn't like shopping when it's crowded so we prefer to go during the early bird hours on Saturday morning. The only sucky part about that is the cashiers aren't open yet, only self check out. So if you have a cart full of groceries top to bottom and then some overfilling your child then it may take a long while or you could just wait til the end when they do start to ring up people. As mentioned in other reviews and what we've had to learn the hard way is to not come during pay day, 1 & 15 I believe. Additionally, try to avoid big holiday weekends like Memorial Day, Super Bowl, and 4th of July. Parking isn't too bad but during peak hours it may take a couple circles to score a spot. However I love the fact that there are a couple stalls for pregnant women. All in all, we appreciate the low prices. Baggers are sweet, some are friendly others are awkwardly quiet. I love this place but hate this place at the same time! Good things: *The produce here is fresh and prices are really good. They also have a huge section of organic produce if that's your thing. *The flow of the store makes sense. It is very easy to write a shopping list that follows this store's layout. All of the cold stuff is near the end, so you don't have to decide to skip it and then back-track before checkout or let it all get nasty in the cart. *The staff is friendly. Sometimes there's a grumpy guy outside checking ID cards, but inside of the store the produce, meat, and deli employees are helpful and pleasant. *Ample parking. Although the parking lot is a hot mess because of the number of people trying to get in and out, I have never had a problem finding a parking spot. Not-so-good things: *The shoppers. There are too many people here at any given time and many have forgotten their manners. Actually, quite a few shoppers I have encountered are just downright rude. Go in with a smile on your face to battle disgruntled folks. *The line is pretty long. The main line usually moves fast though, which is great. The self-checkout lines suck though. There's no place to wait in the line, so it makes it difficult for shoppers to actually shop when people can't figure out how to scan their own barcodes. Tip #1: Bring cash to tip your bagger. They work for tips only. Tip #2: Use the DECA Commissary Rewards app to keep track of your online coupons. This makes it easy to ensure you have the right sized items before you get to the register. Tip #3: Commissary receipts work for online rebate/coupon sites. So, not only are you saving 30% on your groceries from the start, but you will get money back from other places too. read more

Roaches inside of box foods. This is the second time within the past month hearing about other people finding bugs in their packaged food. The produce is almost always moldy and disgusting. The aisles are not labeled right and they're constantly out of things. If you call the manager and tell him about the deficiencies he sounds like he could care less. The lay out of the store seems way to cramped and small to be honest. You unfortunately often have to look through items to make sure they are not expired (cause a lot of the food at the location is for whatever reason). And be careful with bread/pasta/pet food type items. There has been many times I find bugs in my food especially pet food. Shoppers beware. read more

I Love going to the commissary here on Schofield and not just because it's closer to Mililani. The store is clean and organized!

The worst commissary ever. Their shelves are empty most of the time. They are blaming the distribution system. But that is is only a small part of the problem. The shipping problem is not from the west coast to Hawaii. The problem is the entire commissary system. Their inventory system is terrible. This location is one of the smaller commissaries are on the island. The parking situation isn't too bad especially if you come during the down times (definitely not around payday!) They are currently in the middle of renovations, with the meats being moved over to the freezer portion of the commissary. Yes it can be confusing, but there were signs to point you in the right direction. All of the meats were labeled (beef, pork, chicken, etc). I spoke with a cashier who shared they were trying to fix up the commissary as it was one of the busiest on the island. I thought that would have been Pearl Harbor, but any improvements I welcome! Overall, prices are great especially with how expensive items are in Hawaii. Yes, you can find some items cheaper at Costco, and occasionally Foodland. Although parking was daughting, it was empty inside. I went at 1:30pm on a Wednesday and it was empty. The selections are perfect and the prices are way beyond reasonable. For the North Shore and Central Oahu area, this is the place to shop for goods. I had a cart full of brand named items (from Rib Eye Steaks to Cheese Its) I paid easily 60-70% less than town. Retiring has its advantages. If you read this and are active duty, just buy a few items on base and then the same in town. You will see that the short 20 years service make the remaining 50 years of life easier. Just something to think about. read more

I don't mind this commissary. It's on the slightly smaller side, but has just about anything you'd be looking for at a grocery store. Prices are much more budget friendly than some of the other grocery stores around the island. It does get pretty busy on pay day, but they're really good about having all the cash registers open on those days, so the line goes quickly. Parking sucks on these days, and usually pretty bad if division holds an event on the adjacent field. I've never had an issue with expired products or rotten produce, but that is a common complaint from others. Location is convenient since I live on post, which is a bonus! read more

I wouldn't be able to survive on this island without the commissary. My first day here, my husband took me to Safeway and I about had a heart attack with the prices. I was in sticker shock, coming from Texas where chicken breast is $1.30 lb. The commissary has great prices and a huge selection. This one in particular is better then the Texas location I used to frequent and regular stores in California. With that said, I am quite pleased. I've been here on all different days and times in search of the best time to shop. The conclusion, avoid Friday's, weekends and first day after military is paid. Best time to shop, 9:30-11:30 am, 1-3:30pm. They have a wide selection of vegetables and fruits and an organic section, often with managers specials. When you first enter to the right are the seasonal items and Hawaiian local treats. I have always had good luck at the seafood counter with fresh Mahi. Also, there's a secret meat freezer with frozen marked down meats from a couple days ago. But leave me some of the carne asada! The only thing I don't like is the surcharge added on top of your bill. Commissary is tax free. But how they get you is the surcharge is the exact same amount of the items if taxed. Not fooling me, I see what's going on here. Also the bagger situation is really weird to me. I've lived in California for over 20 years and you don't tip the baggers. They are just doing their job. Here, they have a line out the door of people waiting to bag and two people load your groceries. I found out they do not get paid and rely on tips. I don't carry cash and now have to get cash to give them or else feel bad. Commissary, can you please hire some of these kids so the awkwardness can stop? Other then those minor issues I love coming here. I also found out there is a dress code to shop. And one guest per military ID. Everyone must have ID to enter. read more
