I can always count on Safeway to be open when other grocery stores are closed. I actually enjoy walking through every aisle because I always find products I'd never see at Walmart. There's also a little clearance section in the back that's worth checking out if you love saving money. I definitely do! Today, Safeway really saved the day. Walmart had completely run out of turkey, and we were doing some last-minute shopping. Luckily, Safeway had one turkey left, and we grabbed it just in time for a last-minute Thanksgiving dinner. I'm always careful not to overbuy here since Costco has better prices for bulk items, but Safeway is perfect when you need to shop late at night. My family likes shopping at this Safeway because it's usually pretty mellow (except for the $5 Fridays-as expected) and we always get quality products: meats, produce, etc. The store is clean and bright. The shelves are normally very well stocked. All of the staff is super patient, friendly, and helpful which is great for a large family with young kids. However, today's visit was probably the exception to the norm. I purchased some flowers and ferns (for a lei I was planning on making) from the Floral dept which was well stocked. When I got home, the baby's breath that I purchased ($8.99) was already turning brown at the bottoms. I wouldn't have seen it there because the parts that were brown was in the inside and was only noticeable when pulling it apart. I was so sad, but I made it work by spray painting it. So nothing was wasted, but just words of advice to check the bunches well and there's no shame in taking it over to the workers to have them open the bunches to double check the freshness of it ESPECIALLY if it is for lei! Located in Mililani Marketplace on Meheula, I love this place to do my grocery shopping! First of all there's always plenty of parking when I go during the work week. Any time on those days I am able to find a good spot without having to navigate through cars perching or driving round and round looking for a spot. Being greeted as you enter the store is a nice touch. It's a smallish store which is great for us elderly to navigate easily without being on feet too long. Nicely stocked with good variety of items despite the size of store. Love the 2 for $5 Fridays too! Lose one star as no senior or military discount. But I keep going here because I love the cashiers! All are friendly and fun- quick and efficient- especially this Caucasian lady that makes me laugh so hard! She rings it all up, lets me know if I saw the brand was on sale, while bagging everything perfectly. I go to her line just to get my laugh for the day. Safeway is the only national grocery store that has made a space for themselves in Hawaii. (Whole Foods does not count as a regular grocery store!) The chain has opened a few fancy new stores here on Oahu, but this particular location has a decades long history in the community it serves. It's almost a given that you will become familiar with your fellow shoppers here, and there's a good chance that they have been your close neighbors all along. The prices are often higher than in other stores, but they also carry a few things that are harder to find, so if you have a taste for a non local flavor, Safeway is a great place to check. They have a really nice app, so is very easy to navigate through the sales and coupons. Make sure to check out the Friday deals, as there are often amazing bargains. read more

Safeway is the anchor tenant for Mililani Marketplace. Situated on Mehe'ula Parkway. I think Safeway and the shopping center have been here around 12 years. It is one of the smaller Safeways but it still brings grocery chain consistency and convenience. And they are open on Christmas Day. The shelves are often half-stocked, making it hard to find basic items that should always be available. Even the bakery can be hit or miss; there are mornings when there are no doughnuts at all. Safeway shopping... We all have our favorite spots to find the usual items we crave and are found in the convenience of our supermarket and Safeway is one of mine. This location is in the Mililani Marketplace one of the smaller shopping center and this location does seem a bit dated but is kept very clean and organized. Staff here is friendly as they greeted me when I walked in and browsed around to see the usual poke our local favorite and many grab and go treats and meals. Since I was in the area I was looking for a few specific items and know that they do have it here and decided to browse which is always fun since they do carry some usual and limited items as well and sort of found it and proceeded to the self check out and was delighted to see that someone forgot their change and another thing I do love about Safeway...they always have restrooms for us to use as well. I enjoy shopping Safeway because you can always find good deals. I just missed $5 Fridays. Today, meats were on sale. Various Mother's Day flower bouquets & Desserts as well. Interesting I didn't stumble upon this service during the pandemic, but did you know Safeway offers curbside pickup - you just need to spend a minimum of $35! This service is amazing and the staff that has shopped for me and communicated substitutions has always been friendly and helpful. The curbside pickup in particular, you do pay for the bags they'll need to shop/bag your groceries, you can't bring your own. But to my knowledge, you get the store pricing (not some marked up price) and you can clip online coupons and get sale items, just as if you are shopping in-store. This service has been a massive time saver and I'm so thankful for not only the service but the friendly staff. Mililani Safeway doesn't have designated stalls to park in. During my first order, they told me to park near the front curb, near to the blue post office mailbox. read more

Not a big fan of Safeway for many reasons but my sister and I are volunteering and helping a super nice couple with their weekly groceries. There's never the hot deli items at 4:30pm on a Friday. Yes, it's a busy time but MAKE MORE! Can you imagine the loss revenue?! I would say 75% of the items are out of stock and I'm talking everyday type of items... like a head of lettuce. Service could be better but it's the convenience and the couple used to shop there when they could, so they know the store like the back of their hand. The prices are nuts but so is everywhere. Looking for...FLOWERS? No need to find a florist, just head on over to your friendly neighborhood SAFEWAY! Yes, folks...I'm talking about a grocery store that has a quality FLORIST! You will find beautiful flowers at a REASONABLE PRICE,. They have a variety of FLOWERS . Just to name a few...Roses, Daisies, Mum's, Sunflowers, Hydrangeas, Baby's Breath, Tropical, Lilies, Spring mixes, Leis, Haku leis, Floral arrangements, Potted plants and so much more. If you go on a Friday, usually there is a $5 special on a small bouquet of flowers. Now, that is a pretty GOOD DEAL ! I'm here almost every other Friday picking up flowers. Lol. Not only does Safeway have a nice selection of flowers, they also have awesome SERVICE! Their florist will take the time to assist you in anyway that they can. If they can't assist you, they will seek help from another location of theirs. Whenever I have questions or need assistance, I always receive EXCELLENT CARE! On one particular occasion, I went to Safeway to purchase flowers to make a haku lei for my daughter's luau. I asked... Dhar...the florist for some suggestions on flowers to use for the haku lei. He was willing to spend a good amount of time with me. I selected a bunch of flowers before I asked him for help and he told me to put those back. He mentioned that the bunch wouldn't last on a haku lei. Thank goodness for him. Lol, I put those back and picked up mini pink carnations and baby's breath. I told Dhar that my daughter's clothes was blue and white. He suggested getting mini white carnations and he would spray paint the flowers blue for no additional charge. Unfortunately, he didn't have any at his store. Therefore, he called the Waikele store to see if they had any. Yes, they did and they would put it on hold for me. After he made the call, I decided not to do that and so I kept the pink mini carnations. I thanked Dhar for his help and I went on my way. Later that evening, my daughter mentioned that she was hoping for flowers that would match clothes. She was okay with the pink carnations, but I know in my heart that she wasn't as happy. I wanted my daughter to be happy with the haku lei that I would make for her. Therefore, I called the Waikele Safeway and spoke to Karen to see if they still had the white mini carnations. They had one bunch left, and so she saved it for me. The floral manager...Leila ( I think this is her name ?) okayed me to return the pink carnations for an even exchange for the white carnations. In the end, I made the haku lei with the white carnations, baby's breath and some greenery from a friend's yard. Everything worked out well, and the haku lei turned out...BEAUTIFUL and my daughter was so...HAPPY! A BEAUTIFUL HAKU LEI + a HAPPY DAUGHTER = HAPPY MOM! Mahalo nui loa...Dhar, Karen, Leila and Safeway for all that you did for me! I couldn't have asked for a better florist and outstanding team of florists! Cheehou! I love going to Safeway to shop for grocery items when they have a sale on certain items. Hubby stocks up.on sodas when they have buy two get three free or something like that. I like picking up snacks and random items. This location was clean and items were easy to find. Most Safeways have the bakery section where you can order cakes in advance and a food section where you can get chicken with sides or sandwiches made fresh. I definitely like that. They have ads that come out every week so check out to see what they have. For every member, they give out a free item. You just have to click on every item on your app to get the deals. I definitely will be back again. Highly recommend if you're going grocery shopping. read more

Weekly ad had papayas on sale. No papayas! The clerk said they had problems with delivery? They haven't had papayas in a long time and Times and Don Quijote doesn't have an issue with getting papayas. I specifically went there for the papayas because my dad likes them and they were cheaper than other stores. Wasted my time and gas. Also check your receipt because I was overcharged. I clipped and saved coupons to the Safeway app, but when I looked at the receipt they charged me the full price. I'm out about $5-6. Sounds like a scam to me, advertise a product they don't have to get you to the store and then get you to buy other stuff, then not honor your coupons. Was told before that in order to get the coupon price you have to clip and save it to the app. read more

What happened to customer service? I remember the days Safeway workers would acknowledge their customers and ask if they need help. Today I saw multiple workers; they don't smile or acknowledge and they are in Fact, rude. One was stocking stuff the other was mopping ( on a $5 Friday) I was on the side waiting for the mop lady to pass but she blocked me and stood there. I said you want me to run over with my cart; she said nothing so I did just that. When I did self check out the guy just stared at me with a glare; I said hi. There was no response only his dumb stare. I hate shopping at this store in particular and only go on $5 Friday. I usually go to the Waikele one because at least I don't feel like I need a tetanus shot after. The store is so dirty and unkept. You guys need to wake up and start re training your workers to earn their paycheck. It's so sad to see what has become of Safeway. Living in Mililani, there's so many grocery stores to choose from. There are very specific items I come to Safeway for. Safeway brand ice creams, bakery bagels, idako and of course booze. Everything is always easy to find and the store is always nice & clean. The employees are always helpful and friendly. A few employees stand out when I come to visit... Ian being one of them! He always goes above and beyond making sure the store looks immaculate and assisting with anything we may need. The new self check out stations are so convenient now. Parking is always available. Its just the perfect spot to get your grocery shopping done! read more

Management needs to be retrained and this store needs a lot of improvement on taking care of their employees. I am a formal employee and have resigned for personal reasons but all I can say is my experience working here is and all time low. I don't recommend working for this company at this location. Management needs to fix there problems with communication. I feel since I left I made the right decisions. This store is old, slow and bad service all around. The expectations as an employee is beyond my job title. I felt targeted, Harrased and not being heard when I needed assistance for my mental health. I'm glad I walked away from this company. Bakery items = 5 stars Everything else = 3 stars It seems as though every grocery item here is pricier than my usually frequented grocery stores..which is why I don't take a drive down this side of Mililani. The bakery has some really tasty treats! I'll always swing by and pick up some of their cakes for a coworker or friends birthday. I'm not usually a cake type of person but these ones are super delicious! When I started coming here as an adult, the sweet lady helped me sign up for a Safeway card at check out and I got the rewards card immediately. Years later I went to the Kapolei Safeway and that cashier told me it wasn't even registered? So she signed me up again and now I have two! So all this time, my once in a blue moon shopping trips wasn't even racking up points. So disappointed, I registered the new card I got online and haven't used it since, so no points, boo! I used to live within walking distance and my mom asked me to go buy lettuce. At the age of 15, I had no idea what the difference between cabbage and lettuce looked like. So I just looked for a sign that said lettuce, grabbed a nice looking one, not rotten, purchased and ran back home. Come to find out it was cabbage and my mom made me go back and return it. Well, you can't return fresh produce and Safeway had the wrong sign in front of the cabbage. This was my very first experience which has also traumatized me and broken my trust from shopping here. read more

So brave of this chain for opening with Hurricane Lane ... they are going to do well since lots of businesses closed today unless plenty people stay off the roads as advised. - Hubs said lots of people at Bakery section since was dozen doughnuts for $5. I texted him eggs, lettuce, white bread and butter, Rotisserie chicken, etc. right after he left cuz might as well if store was open like news broadcasted. He came home with flowers, chocolate cake, a dozen donuts( even some with sprinkles- hey that's for little sweeties or unicorn lovers.). He said all out of white bread so he got wheat. So decided to make breakfast: over easy eggs, ( goteberg we had), should have put on rice. Kinda weird with donuts but good enough for today. Used the rotisserie chicken for sandwiches with chips and deboned the rest for chicken long rice for dinner. Good job Safeway... thanks for opening today so we didn't need to crack open box cereal, canned ice tea, etc. Hope your workers can go home before wind gusts get stronger and expected rains arrive. Since it was on sale, I just tried their ahi limu poke and to be honest, it was the worst poke I have ever eaten. I really don't know what they put inside but it was soooo sweet it tasted like dessert. I took one bite and spit it out. Reminded me of eating spicy ice cream. I ended up rinsing it off with water and adding alae and sesame oil. Either they have to follow a recipe or go back for a refresher at poke school. And just FYI, after eating some of it, the bathroom became my favorite room in the house for the next 2 hours. Never buying any seafood pupus from there again. read more

I am very happy with my trip to Safeway! I have a variety of allergies and there isn't many foods that I can have in a normal grocery store trip. I thought that the store was clean and well organized. I also thought that the staff was friendly and made me feel welcomed while I was there. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I was picking up a few items a few doors down and really had to use the restroom, and was so glad Times did have a public restroom open to the public (but not so easy to find). This is the only location in the Waipio, Mililani, Wahiawa area, so I think there's a lot of people who come here for specials and coupons. I don't shop much here because Times and Foodland are closer to me, but I may start because of some of the deals I saw while browsing. True and funny story: walked in and all the lines were short or non-existent, so I went to the restroom and I wanted to make sure I gave business for the use of their bathroom, and got a bottle of unsweetened green tea, thinking I'd be out in about 3 minutes... nope... when I reached the front, the lines were ALL at least 5 deep. I decided to browse the store a bit, helped an obaasan grab some baby wipes on special she couldn't quite reach, helped another obaasan save a little bit on paper towel rolls, and went to line up again... still 5 deep so I decided to just be patient... all said, took about 10 minutes so not too bad. I do agree that the cost at Safeway is a lot more than other grocery stores -but think about it...in order to keep a grocery store open for 24-hours requires a lot of energy and manpower and the cost ends up going to the consumer...for convenience - you can gripe all you want but if you use this store after-hours, you should not be complaining. You may say, 'Wal-Mart is also open 24-hours and their prices are cheaper', but you have to remember that Safeway is not a Wal-Mart and Wal-Mart can capture a lot more money with the diverse items they sell, whereas Safeway is primarily a grocery store, and most people would probably go to Wal-Mart for staples like milk and eggs due to cost anyway. I don't think people realize the sheer cost of operating a business in Hawaii. I used to work in a relatively small nursing home and remember seeing the electric bill for a month - $16,000 - and they don't have freezers and refrigerators running 24/7, produce that needs checking for spoilage probably a few times a day, a bakery that needs to churn out baked fresh goods using the oven daily, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if Safeway Mililani's electric bill is a lot more than the small nursing home...seeing something like that really opened up my eyes! Let's not also forget the cost of paying employee's health care, medical insurance, workman's compensation, maternity leave, 401K retirement matching, paid time off, paid sick leave...PER employee, oh yes, and their wages. I am sure there's a host of other costs that we, the consumer, have no clue about, but that's what it takes to run a business in Hawaii; it's all the hidden things we are uneducated about as consumers. I have had a few bad experiences here: grouchy cashiers (I won't name names since I already know who she is, and when I do see her, I don't go to her register) and having prices ring up wrong (back before the boom of electronic-everything), but where else can you buy an exotic collection of Gruyere, Camembert, Merlot and Irish Cheddar cheeses? Where else can you buy a large selection of vegan "meats" and vegan cheese and vegan ice cream without going to Down To Earth or Whole Foods? And where else can you get all this anytime of day, or night? They have an organic produce, dairy and egg selection as well. I'm a thrifty shopper, and despite the higher prices here, you can still get similar deals or better if you hit the sales. I've purchased wine, eggs and canned goods here cheaper than at Costco. I try not to buy items that are not on sale as it will rack up the grocery bill, but you gotta admit, the convenience and selection is unbeatable. I've been frequenting this Safeway for over 36 years and I've seen it go through a lot of changes; I am amazed that it's still in business after all these years with competition from the nearby Wal-Mart, Costco, Foodland, and Time's Supermarket. I'm hoping we can support this Safeway location with our business and positive vibes so that we can have the convenience we need, when we need it. read more

What the hell is going on here? How does their produce department pass a basic OSHA inspection? I was shocked this last Sunday at how many rotting fruits, vegetables and herbs they're pushing at full price. Literally molding and black in front of your eyes. Their shelving and refrigeration is all molded and gross too. This location is in dire need of a facelift. Save your money and health and shop elsewhere. For my daughter 5th bday I explained that it was a big deal For her. The bakery clerk understood how exciting and important it was to us. The app was easy to maneuver and there were special offer for my purchases. I selected my delivery time window. Few hours later, during my delivery window, I was able to track my order and watch the mini safeway truck travel their route on my app to my house! The delivery person was friendly, wore his mask, and delivered our items in great condition. It was a great experience and worth the delivery charge. I was very disappointed with my visit to Safeway Mililani this evening. First, they were out of a lot of the sale items I was looking for. That's not really a big deal but it was definitely inconvenient. Next, the clerk, although polite and friendly, was not well trained. I actually looked to see if he was wearing a trainee nametag but he was not. He did not know how to process a gift card and he did not know how to have a debit card be processed as a credit card. The worst thing however was that, when I asked for 3 bags, rather than packing my purchase, he put 3 bags on top of the groceries and started ringing up the next customer. Now grocery bagging has become a lost art on Oahu. Ever since the city started passing their bag laws, the clerks no longer seem to take pride in packing well. Rather, they seem to want to pack all they can in a single bag because they are certain that no one could possibly want to pay 15 cents more for a second bag. But today took the cake. It honestly caught me by surprise. I was reviewing my receipt as I always do and assumed that my groceries were being packed. But when I looked over, all I saw was 3 unopened paper bags sitting on top of my groceries. Since the clerk was already ringing up the next customer, I packed my things and left. I am truly astounded by the lack of customer service at the Mililani Safeway. I have been shopping at this Safeway for over 20 years. My previous review related to poor service at the deli counter when fried chicken was on sale. In both that case and this one, I don't think the issue was really with the person I who was serving me. Both people seemed to have not been trained properly and in both cases I don't believe they had the support they required to do their jobs properly. This is a failure of management. read more
