Stopped by Malama Market and decided to try the ahi poke along with the fried chicken skin. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing for me. The ahi poke didn't taste very fresh and the texture of the fish was a bit mushy. The fried chicken skin also tasted old, almost like it had been sitting out for a while rather than freshly made. On the positive side, the cashiers were very nice and friendly during the visit, which I appreciated. I just wish the food quality had matched the service. read more

They have a small food counter that has poke, fried chicken, corn dogs among other things but every Thursday they actually grill steak for a plate lunch that is fantastic. It's marinated steak that is actually grilled in the parking lot. You can smell it down the street. It comes with two scoops of rice a scoop of salad and a drink for $15.99. They do sell out but as long as your their before 4 pm you should be good to go. read more

This market was actually a stop when first arriving in the north shore. They had a pretty good selection of premade hot food and in the bakery. Foodland is 15 minutes away and everything is approximately $2.00 cheaper and they have a rewards program. If you come here for Poke, make sure to get the FRESH poke locally caught here in Hawaii, I'm sure the other options are fine but that's just defrosted tuna that you can buy wherever you live. We were in the area and were thirsty, so we decided to stop in and pickup a drink at Malama Market. While there is a small selection of grocery items, the drink selection is strong. I had a can of Hawaiian Lilikoi Lychee Soda, which was very delicious. I would come back here again if I was in the area. There is a decent amount of parking in the private lot. read more

Just one suggestion. Rice always way too wet and mushy. We love our weekly steak plates but would definitely enjoy it more if the rice was better. I'm Eating my steak plate right now as I write this review on 3/6/25. Most local people love their rice. Junk rice ruins the meal. One to one ratio. One level cup rice to one level cup water never fails. Also when you scoop the rice, shake off the water from the rice spoon that was sitting in the water cup. I keep seeing the locals wear these shoes and I totally wanted to get them because every single pair of shoes that I took to Hawaii just did not work. Never take new shoes to Hawaii rookie move! Anyways I ended up not getting in my best friend got them turns out they weren't a good pair of shoes for him . They have a little balls at the bottom that are supposed to stimulate all your pressure points . Which probably sounds like something that I can deal with but not him. Called from the mainland to have a birthday cake made for my husband's birthday that we were celebrating on the North shore in a few weeks. I picked a design online and talked to the manager Julie and she gave me her cellphone number to text her a picture of the cake. I ordered the plastic pieces online and brought them with me to Hawaii. I paid for the cake and took the pieces to the store. Need an easy breakfast after an early morning shark cage adventure? This is the place to go. The market is just minutes from the harbor and is open early. They have hot breakfast items like scrambled eggs, fried meats, fried rice, spam masubi and fresh poke. You can choose from some of the pre-made boxes or ask the staff to make a custom one for you. We got masubi, a breakfast box and poke. The fam loved the fried rice and we loved the poke. The poke was so fresh and delicious. This was better than anything we can get in LA. On lucky days, Ray's Kiawe Chicken (outside the market parking lot) opens at 9:30 and you want to make sure you try that, too. read more

Small but mighty! This is an offshoot of Foodland Farms (but they don't take the Makai rewards card here, as they are not actually the same store. We came here a few times to get ice and other groceries. It looks a bit like a liquor store from the outside but inside there is everything you need from hot foods/bentos to go to sea asparagus and poke. They sometimes run out of ice on extremely hot days and aren't open very late, so make sure to go early to get everything you need! read more

I always love the Hawaiian markets because I think they carry some of the best poke. This place did not disappoint. I always stop here at Malama Market on my around the island ventures. Located in Haleiwa right next to Ray's Kiawe chicken ( weekends only) this is super convenient for me, since I make a stop at both business. My very first visit to Malama Market, reminded me of Foodland Farms. Same company except at Malama you don't need a Maikai card. Smaller grocery store but they sure have everything you need, for the beach, going around the island, quick snack, drinks, lunch, etc. This store may be smaller in size but they do carry all the goodies of assorted poke, bento, fried chicken, musubis, beverage, snacks, produce, alcohol, and so much more. I stop here for poke, drinks, and alcohol for my picnic lunch with my family. The cashiers are always friendly and they work hard to keep the line moving. I never had to wait longer than 5 minutes. A very quick in grab your stuff, pay, and leave. So convenient! The prices are the same as the Foodland stores and they have sale items as well, not a tourist trap. I went to the deli to purchase food and the older woman working there was so unbelievably rude. She either doesn't like white people or tourists, because she was very nice to the local gal who had come in there. She has zero manners. No greeting, no thank you, no your welcome even though I came in smiling and thanked her for her help. Unbelievable. For such a small place they had 4 cashiers which helped speed things along because it was real busy. The cashiers were fast efficient and the one that helped me was fast. The helpful waitress from Jorge's (across the road) pointed us in the direction of the Malama Market. She said they had a good deli. Did a quick run through and fresh poke and breakfast items. I spent a year living in Haleiwa, and was so happy to have Malama Market available for my grocery shopping needs. The market has an odd mix of local favorites and tourist staples, and the prices are higher than one might always be willing to pay, but when you need them, they are there. What I liked best about shopping there is the mix of hot foods, gourmet deli selections, and ready to make foods. Great to have everything one needs for a quick meal without having to drive for miles. Haleiwa is so far from any other shopping, and I think that most people forget that people actually live there. It was so nice to walk in, say hello to a neighbor or two, grab a package of peppered salami and some poke and head home as the limos began to crowd the parking lot. read more

I cruised the aisles looking around because this is my 1st Visit here. The prices were very competitive. Man, they had a slew of on sale items. So I say this, I went in for soup and came out with a few bags. All on sale items. I normally shop Foodland because it's close to home. DO NOT COME HERE! As of right now most of us are going through a hard time because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of us have lost our jobs so we obviously don't have a source of income. As a local resident this market is the closest and most convenient so this is where I shop regularly. I was looking at the prices of the items I normally buy and noticed that they were tagged as "special buy" but what used to be $5.00 were now $7.00+ but was considered discounted. I noticed mostly everything I buy was more expensive, so I asked an employee very kindly if Malama was raising the prices on things and he was very honest with me and said "YES, especially dairy products". Are you kidding?! During a crisis this market decides to take advantage of locals and tourists. What a shame. I'm super disappointed. read more

I was happy that there was a grocery store nearby to go to for last minute supplies or items needed for our meals since we were staying in nearby Waialua. I expected the high prices on some items given that, well.. it's Hawaii. But I was really disappointed that their veggies and fruits were not locally sourced, especially since there are tons of farms nearby that could've provided such, I didn't understand why I was buying avocados from Mexico and garlic from Brazil. Really? The only locally sourced fruits I was able to find was papaya, pineapples, and apple bananas, but it was very limited. I hope that they will support local farms and provide produce from the island to their customers. read more
