1000 thumbs up for this place. I love the creative, rotating food menu; the unique and superb drink menu; and the welcoming ambiance. The food really hooked me at this place. I got sausage and grits there one time and it was an absolutely game changer. There was a little sweet sauce on top that was perfect and totally unlike any other version of this dish I've had. Another time, I had the Montreal fries (poutine) and mac and cheese. Both were excellent. Also, the menu changes every so often (lighter in the summer, heavier in the winter). The beer selection is excellent. There are many crowd pleasers and also plenty of choices of beer that I'd never heard of (which I like). The mixed drink menu has a lot of good and unique drinks. Last time, we ordered mint juleps which came in cool copper mugs (as a lot of the drinks do). I also got a Hall Pass one time and was very happy with it. School House Pub? This is just pertaining to the vegan "Reuben". First of all its 13 dollars for just the sandwich, no chips or slaw and a single pickle, which was the best part of the sandwich. Second of all this isn't a Reuben. Its crap like this that gives vegan food a bad name. 4 paper thin slices of dry tough seitan. Soggy bland sourkruat and a smear of German mustard. All served on what appeared to be a pretzel bun. I should have just asked for my money back. If this is your sad attempt at having a vegan item on your menu you should just not even offer one. I think this place is probably a solid happy hour venture - I say probably because if I would have thought of it as more it was hugely disappointing. The interior is neat and they really drive home the school house theme, it's cute. The drink menu was solid and wine prices decent. I think that's where I stopped being impressed. You have to go the counter to order anything, which is kind of silly for such a small place. Further than that, I thought the food to be over priced for the portions. The cheese board was tiny and came with like 4 peices of crostini - WEAK. Not an appropriate amount to for a shared plate even between 2 people. We also tried the pork kimchi bowl special which consisted of a fried egg, BBQ pork, kimchi, rice- sounds like it should be delicious, right? Nope. The portions were all off and it was bland and boring, I think it was like 2 cups of cooked rice with the tiniest amounts of pork etc on top. We had probably 3 bites each and then quit. And last, service was... Weird. You have to get everything at the counter and they bring your food to your table. We had to ask for plates and silverware, and when we finally got it, we were alloted 1 set of silverware to share without a word as to why this was a good decision from the waitress. So yeah, anyway, the food is overpriced and thoughtless. If you go for just drinks, I think this place is probably super, however, if you're putting all that energy into a cool themed bar, drinks AND food, it would be nice if you tried to do it all well. First stop on our girls night bar crawl and we checked in at the Schoolhouse. Adorable little house across from Haymaker. We decided to have dinner and shared the Mac and cheese - a decadent blend of cheeses and crunchy little cubes of bacon - and the pulled pork biscuit sliders - amazing little bites of bliss. The drinks were good and really potent. I had the Intro to Spanish and let me tell you, that mescal is not to be trifled with! Worst thing about this place is that they call last call at 11:50, you buy a $9 cocktail that takes 5 minutes for the bartendress to make, you make your way back to your seat and then they come around with a bucket and pick up all the drinks. I could not believe it and explained to the server that their definition of last call and mine were very different. The drinks are good and the prices aren't cheap therefore this isn't a scenario where people should be forced to chug their beverage. I found this move very lacking in class. Due to this last call issue we spent $22 dollars including tip on two drinks that we did not even get to take a sip of. I could not believe it; I explained that I had just bought them and the waitress just stood there expectantly as I passed the untouched beverages over to dump in a bucket. What a scam! I suggested in the future they either make last call 30 min before closing (midnight) or alert people that they sell their drinks to after 11:30 PM that they will be forced to forfeit their glass at midnight and no later. GeeZzz! The location is good in the sense that it is in a good area, not crowded, plenty of parking and in walking distance to various other restaurants, bars, and theaters. The place is new and it shows. The interior decor is cute and original following the School House theme complete with school bell but it is loud inside. They need to line the underside of their furniture with carpet or find some other means to soften the sound of voices. There is music but you mostly hear everyone shouting to be heard so basically it is impossible to sit and talk inside. The outdoor area is well groomed and cute but in no particular arrangement with odd chairs and a serious lack of drink tables so you are forced to use a neighboring chair as a table. The music is old school as if to be cool but it is really just the old school junk you wish would have died along with the rest of the awful stuff from the 80's & 90's. The drinks were well prepared, it took awhile but the bartenders really put effort into what they were trying to accomplish. The "Spanish Class" wasn't that good but the drink "Detention" was awesome, it took awhile to make it but it was very well executed. Furthermore I appreciated that all the bartenders were women who know their drinks (alcohol, beer, wine). Excellent selection of beverages in general. The services as far as "nice" on a scale of 0 to 10 (0 being rude, 10 awesome) I would give a 4. The food looks good for bar food. The fries looked especially good but I was quickly informed that they aren't all that. Overall good concept but rough around the edges. I love their mac and cheese and Montreal fries. They serve some of the best food I have ever had, honestly, and I have brought a ton of people there to prove it. The staff, however, hate you and want you to leave them alone. It's actually quite unnerving to put in an order there...maybe intimidating is a better word. I live a few blocks from here so my inclination was to like it, but I do not like it at all and don't plan on going back. Too small, too loud, too hot, too expensive, too "themed" for its own good. No happy hour specials that I could discern. Stupid cutesy "school" theme with dumb signature cocktail names you will probably feel self-conscious ordering. They serve high-alcohol beers in small glasses. Tiny outdoor seating area. Excruciatingly loud and cramped inside. To their credit, the popcorn with bacon and parmesan cheese is a good bar snack. Burger and fries was terrible! Service was worse. Is it because I'm the only black male there at 11pm? I don't know and hate to think it but it's what was seemingly the treatment or I wouldn't mention this in a review. I pay $26 for a burger with more green on it the the Boston Celtics and it was majorly undercooked. The staff I could care less for and I just moved to Austin in this area and won't ever go that again so perhaps Im only speaking for minorities in reference to not suggesting this bar. Oh and they have three tvs that all play the same thing and I can figure why. Also the outside seating is not comfortable at all! There's definetly a better bar out there where the service staff won't come around and collect everyone's shh an hour before closing and not speak to any of guest while doing. I'm from Florida and people are more engaging than in Texas so my review could be bias to a state that more friendly overall in my opinion. Btw do not get the ranch or the Dijon mustard! Two so far. It'd been open less than a week when I stopped by for some food. People find stuff like rulers stuck in erasers cute, that's cool. I like the floors. Nice wood. Patio still smells of fresh lumber. No one greeted the guests in any way that you might expect of a brand new company looking to impact the east side. An owner (?) was busy on a laptop with some dudes (owners?) and some mo-mo was walking around photographing the dangling books and skylight. Bartenders looked at me like I was an idiot while asking questions, didn't really describe anything on the menu (such as "avoid the namesake burger, it's boring and the spinach is an awful pairing with the meat" or "when we say pork patty is 'studded' we actually mean 'stuffed'"). By the way, the pork patty ruled. Great cheese-molten chunk of dead pig all over a nice challah bun. The duck pie is boring; it's just duck in some tasty pie crust. Maybe duck pudding would do better. The boards they bring the food out on are way oversized for their eating surface area. Three items (burger / patty / duck pie) took up a third of a counter. Nice orange juice. Topped off the day. I'll come by in a month and see what's up. read more

This place is awesome. They have a great selection of beers that they switch around on a regular basis. Their outdoor seating is limited but spacey and shaded enough for a decent crowd. I live in the neighborhood and go to this place often when i am want to have some good food. The food has been hit and miss. I continue to try new things on their limited menu and have been very happy with what i have gotten. The seating in this place is very, very limited and i am not a fan at all on the way you have to order your food. You have to go to the counter to order your drinks and food and it is not the best set up because it is just steps away from the front door. So when there is a line it is very frustrating to order anything. Seems very disorganized. But good place over all. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. It is the perfect neighborhood bar that you can tell has had a lot of thought put behind it. The food is amazing, the bartenders know how to make a mean cocktail and can surprise you with custom made ones and the atmosphere is laid back, fun and inviting. I'm not one to go somewhere by myself to work or watch a game, but the bartenders there seriously make you feel so comfortable that I don't mind going there alone. I had been following this place on Facebook before they opened and finally got around to visiting today. They have a good draft beer selection and the BEST cheese board I've had in Austin. Stopped by Schoolhouse Pub with a friend on Sat afternoon, excited for a new pub on Manor. Love the school concept - had experienced that before in my hometown and loved it. Hadn't been to "school" since then. Very fun. We sat at the bar. I thought the food was great, not your standard bar food but creative, tasty and reasonably priced considering the quality. The beer was cold and not overpriced. It was almost a perfect new bar experience except for one of the bar staff that served us. Aloof, argumentative and slightly rude. I felt as it we were in HER way. I was shocked, a new bar only open 2 weeks and she treats customers like that. No thanks....It will be hard to convince me to go back. This is NOT your typical pub fair. SOOOO delicious. The drinks and food options are inventive and delicious The Earth Burger is my new favorite vegan burger, and their nonvegan food is terrific, too. It feels like a modern neighborhood pub. I was blown away by the food, cocktails, and ambience of this place. We shared the Chorizo & Eggs, Montreal Fries, and Mr. Crunch sandwiches. Going here is definitely an experience! The theme is carried out from start to finish creating a really great environment! They have a really intensive beer selection which was exciting for me because I enjoy trying new beers. The bartender was absolutely helpful and sincere.
