I went here for a Lasix consult, but it has turned into the need for cataract surgery. I am not the average age of a cataract patient, but here I am. The doctors and all the staff I have interacted with have been great. I have not had the extensive eye exams that I have already undergone here, but at least they never used the machine to blow air into my eyes. My surgery is scheduled for about three weeks from now, but I already have all the information and medications that I need to proceed. I was thinking the Scottsdale office was far, but then I heard another patient say they came from much farther than I did. Knowing the distance some patients drive lets you know how great the treatment is. read more

40 minute wait in your lobby without being spoken to is unacceptable and not a respectful way of doing business. I did my part and showed up on time. You need to respect the fact that people have schedules. Stop over booking and take care of your patients. Shame on you guys. read more

$10,000 and 10 months after opting for the light adjustable lens following cataract surgery my vision is not much improved and the Dr now suggests I get prescription glasses. My reason for doing the surgery was to see the tennis ball and street signs more clearly. This has not happened. They gave me mono vision which resulted in seeing two balls. Definitely the wrong decision. I had a vitrectomy to remove floaters in the right eye and probably will need one in the left eye. Do your research and make sure they are listening to what you want. Now Im back to wearing glasses and constantly using eye drops. Ten months of misery ! read more

Was told I would never have to wear glasses again. Paid lots of money for the light adjustable lenses. Similar to the review by Connie H I am having to wear glasses to read. Don't waste your money on the light adjustable lenses, they are a huge profit center for Schwartz but a bad deal for you. Then what really irritated me, 9 months after prepaying for every single thing, I get a bill today for $314. What? I prepaid, this place doesn't let you do anything without paying ahead of time. We had been patients of Schwartz Eye Center for over 15 years. We both had successful corrective laser surgery. However cataract surgery was not only unsuccessful, requiring additional surgery from another provider, but we were overcharged based on what Dr. Birdsong had quoted. Schwartz did not provide a written cost estimate, as we were told when signing various forms. We had trusted Dr. Birdsong and their office personnel. After the improper billing we have gone back and forth with accounting department and only explanation they have is that we signed the forms. And now Schwartz has turned our account over to a collection agency. Warning, do not sign anything without Schwartz committing in writing to final cost. read more

I had LASIK done over 3 years ago and I do regret having it done. I now suffer from really bad dry eyes that I didn't experience beforehand. My left eye is the worst and tends to actually hurt a lot. I have tried a lot of recommendations such as punctual plugs, medicated eye drops, eye ointment, fish oil, humidifier, heat packs on eyes etc. and nothing has helped. My left eye vision isn't 20/20 anymore because of how dry it is. I fear the day I need to wear contacts again because I don't know if I'll be able to with how dry my left eye is and how it already hurts. I wouldn't recommend this to people anymore. read more

Going in to lock my Light Adjustable Lenses tomorrow. The outcome is not at all what I expected. I was sold a bill of goods that I would not need glasses because my new $10,000 plus lenses could be adjusted for near, medium and far vision. What I was not told was that because I had LASIK's adjustments would be risky. Ironically, sitting in the office a few days ago, a patient who previously had PRK shared the same experience. Lesson to pass on here is that the LAL are not as advertised. They don't work for everyone. Dr. Schwartz and his associates over promised and under delivered. My near and medium vision are worse than pre-cataract surgery. I will need progressive lenses for reading and computer work. My advice, before saying yes to a $10,000 bill for LAL and falling for the promise of never needing glasses again, you should consult with multiple doctors. Any previous eye surgery puts you at risk of not being able to adjust the LAL. Do your research. LAL may not be right for you. read more

I saw Dr Schwartz 2 years ago ( 2022). Was very impressed with his Scottsdale office. I had the free 2 hour in-depth eye screening because I have been wearing 2.5 reading glasses for many years now. Went to see if there is anything that I can do to fix the problem. Hoping that insurance would pay for some I waited another 2 years to see Dr Schwartz again in October 2024. Came to the realization that only Lens replacement surgery would fix the problem of me needing to wear reading glasses. I had 20/20 vision for distance. Just wanted to fix the near vision. Went ahead and had both eyes done in Nov. 2024. Unfortunately insurance did not pay for anything. Went with the new Odyssey multifocal lenses. The surgery went smoothly, the ladies at the front desk and surgery center were friendly, helpful and professional. The office was very efficient and fast and I had an absolutely positive experience at both the Scottsdale and Glendale offices. Highly recommend this place! read more

Because I am insanely honest I have to say that visiting anywhere during the Coronavirus stinks. I wasn't made aware when I made my appointment that my husband would not be able to come in with me. I personally have an illness that makes me extremely forgetful and I need him with me when I do things like this. With that being said, they did allow him to join me. They are also requiring you to wear a mask and that was a little claustrophobic during the exam. Now to the appointment. The office staff was very nice and they were able to get me in on a whim. I checked to see if they had a cancellation as my appointment was still a month away. That impressed me. The office is very clean as well and decorated nice (which is important to me) The doctor was great! We had a few laughs and he was a bit sassy which is so me so I enjoyed him. He also listened and I felt acknowledged in some of my issues. I was originally scheduled with Dr. Schwartz but saw Dr. Bloomstein. I hear Dr Schwartz is great but if he isn't available see Dr. Bloomstein Be sure to block out time on your calendar. My appointment was for 3pm, we got in at 245 and didn't get out until 445pm. I had cataract surgery on both eyes. The did my left eye first and it was fine but the right eye was NOT! I still can't see anything clearly and the doctor (not Schwartz) did a couple of other things, none of which worked. I let them know I was going to sue the doctor and before I even started the lawsuit my doctor had moved to Chicago. It too several years to find him but I got him but would rather have my eyesight in my right eye since it was my dominate eye! I don't know what doctors are there now but be very careful!!!! read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. This place is so very unprofessional. I contacted them as a new patient because I was experiencing black floaters in one of my eyes. I emailed them and they told me I needed to be seen right away. I called and was given an appointment the following day. So, I emailed back and told them that I couldn't get an earlier appointment. After I sent the email, I was called by the office manager who said they could fit me in the same day at 2:30 in Scottsdale (30 minutes from my home, unfortunately...but I took the appointment). I arrived promptly at 2:30. I filled out my patient forms in advance from the website. Upon arrival, I stepped up to the Check-In Desk where there was nobody. I waited a while and a woman showed up and I tried to hand her my forms. She refused to take them and asked me to take a seat. Thirty minutes later, she called my name, took my forms, and checked me in. 15 minutes later, she called me back up and asked me for a birthdate that was already noted on the forms. The entire time, she was very rude. I sat back down and an hour after my arrival, I was called in for my exam. I told the technician that I had been waiting an hour to be seen. She actually said, "You're welcome". Perhaps she misunderstood me. So, she dilates my eyes and tells me the doctor will be in to see me in 10 minutes. That did happen. The doctor was very rushed with poor bedside manner and after a thorough exam was incapable of diagnosing my problem. He told me I needed to see a Retinal Specialist. Now I have just wasted 2.5 hours of my time without a diagnosis. I cannot believe they took my money when they could have told me in advance to see a Retinal Specialist. So, I go to check out and the check-out person was also extremely rude. I asked her for a copy of the office visit receipt with the diagnostic codes and she rolled her eyes, but made me a copy. I asked for a copy of the referral to the Retinal Specialist and she simply said "they will call you". I told her that I needed a specialist near my home in Glendale and she said "you can discuss that with them when they call you AND If I remember, I will tell them when I send the referral". Are you serious? Why not just give me a piece of paper with the referral? I am never going back to this place. It's a complete and total Circus. I have never been treated so poorly in a medical office. read more

2 eye exams, first one from MA the again from the doctor, then saw Schwartz for all of 5 min. More concerned with my $100 copay than anything else. Better exam at Vision works. Went there to get a floater checked out. After waiting over an hour past my appointment time, they managed to cram me into an exam room with another patient so close, I brushed elbows with her. This is where things went downhill. The tech did not know what she was doing. She wasn't new; she knew everyone's name and they definitely knew hers. She had to keep stopping tests to ask other people for help. Rushed me through everything without explaining what was being tested for. This included one very uncomfortable test that involved a cup of water being pressed down on my eyes. I was then made to wait another 20 minutes before I saw a doctor--but not the doctor I was meant to talk to. This one came in and said he needed to check something. He did another standard eye exam on me even though I had just had one right before he came in. "I thought so," he said. Then he changed something the tech wrote on my chart. Turns out she entered the exact OPPOSITE data she was supposed to. It was so glaringly obviously wrong, her coworker caught it before the head doctor came in and saw it. By the time I saw the doctor I was meant to, I already knew I wasn't going to be doing further business with this clinic. So, I didn't even press him on the fact that NO ONE had even addressed the floater I'd come in there for. See, the tech assumed when we met that I was there for LASIK. When she said "I bet you're here because you want to get rid of those glasses!", I corrected her. I told her I was there because the floater in my eye was obstructing my vision and I wanted to know if something could be done about it. But, as I said, the doctor didn't even mention the floater. He told me I wasn't a candidate for LASIK but did I want to get an appointment for ICL instead? I asked what that was and he handed me a 2-page pamphlet. I told him I'd need to know more about the procedure before I could make that decision. On the way out, the gal at the exit desk wanted to schedule me for the surgery. I politely told her no. Maybe this was a fluke and the problems all stemmed from one tech having a really bad day. That said, there is no way I'd let this business touch my eyes when they couldn't even do their own tests correctly. read more

I actually went to Schwartz from his offer at the Suns game and his advertising for Lasik. I have had glasses all my life and I decided it was time to at least look into it. The office is nice and the staff is friendly too. All the Drs are nice and tell you straight forwards. Dr. Rhodes was my favorite and took time with me to explain in depth on my questions. The technology they have to test and go through the entire process for Lasik is pretty impressive. The craziest thing is that it takes less than 5 minutes for the cut and laser on both eyes. It blows me away. They also offer financing with 0% which I thought was cool since my two eye Lasik procedure was $4k. I would rather leverage the money than pay it all upfront. I had a very successful Lasik procedure and would recommend going to Dr. Schwartz for Lasik. He told me he has done over 45,000 Lasik procedures and we are talking about your eyes here people. It has only been just over a week since I had my Lasik procedure, I decided to write a review now whilst my experience of the surgery is still fresh. My eyes are very precious to me, so I chose the more expensive Schwartz clinic over other practitioners because I wanted to be sure of the best quality of care. I was very dissatisfied with the experience. During the consultation the doctor said that the procedure would not have any pain and afterwards would maybe be a little uncomfortable due to eye dryness but taking basic Tylenol should be sufficient. Given this direction I was not expecting the incredible pain that I suffered after the procedure. When the procedure was complete, I was already in a lot of pain and could not open my eyes, the doctor just sent me home to sleep, he gave no advice about pain killers. When I got home as the sedatives wore off the pain got even more intense, even though I took my own pain killers, and continued for an additional 4 hours before it started to subside and I was eventually able to open my eyes again. My right eye was heavily bloodshot, my left eye was a little better. On the second day the checkup was performed by a female doctor who simply said to call if I was in pain, a bit late to be telling me this. I have given birth to two children with no problem and yet the pain I suffered after this procedure was way more than that. If I had known how bad it would be I would have chosen not to have the procedure, sticking with my poor eyesight. It was unbearable. To this day I am still unsure whether I had such a traumatic experience due to the doctor making a mistake in the procedure or because they didn't give me painkillers. When talking with friends that went to much less expensive clinics, they were all given pain killers as part of the treatment but for me there was just the sedative to cover the procedure itself. If I had known the pain that I would have to go through I would not have done the procedure, it really scares me to think I might need to go through it all again if I need them to be readjusted. Last night I was woken up in the middle of the night with a nightmare about the surgery, the trauma I feel is real, it is crazy to think I have PTSD from something that should have been a very common procedure. When I discussed my traumatic experience with the doctor all I got was brief apology for not giving any warning about the potential pain however he said it was the fault of my eyes and would have been the same no matter where I had the procedure done, in his mind my eyes are recovering well so I have no big reason to complain and certainly no recall for discussing things like a refund. The lack of patient care and empathy was very disappointing. I paid $5000+ for what I thought was going to be a high-quality service but was let down by their quality of care, I was not looked after properly. Do not make the same mistake I made, choose a less expensive clinic that looks after its patients better. read more

I recently purchased 3 pairs of sunglasses and one pair of clear lens. All four pairs had progressive perscriptions in them. Unfortunately, each pair came in all with different prescriptions. Two sets of Oakley's, one Maui Jims. My vision was not good and Dr. Schwartz's office (Jenny and Chris) sent them all back to the manufacturer. Needless to say, they all showed up, and again, had the wrong RX. Back they went. I am a few days post-op from my LASIK surgery, and so far so good! As time passes, I will update my review if any issues arise. After wearing contacts/glasses for the majority of my life, I now have 20/15 vision! :) LASIK is a scary procedure and I hated it, but I would absolutely recommend it! Dr. Schwartz and his team did an excellent job and made the procedure as painless as possible. I had my preliminary exam to determine eligibility for the procedure on Thursday. This exam took about 2 hours and I had a variety of tests on different machines. My technician/nurse Annie was great - very sweet and funny. She explained every test and answered all of my questions. She kept me at ease throughout the whole eye exam. After Annie and I did the tests, I met with Dr. Rhodes to review everything. She is an optometrist and highly professional. I was only with Dr. Rhodes for a few minutes before Dr. Schwartz came in to review my exam results. Dr. Schwartz said I was a great candidate for LASIK, and recommended I go the "custom" route because I have large pupils. Most expensive option, but this type of procedure is not something you want to skimp on. If the doctor says go custom, then pay the extra money to do it right! Although I only had about 5 minutes with Dr. Schwartz, I felt very confident in his abilities and I had no worries moving forward with the LASIK procedure. On my way out of the office, I met with another nice office lady to go over the price of the surgery ($4,400) and discuss financing. I paid some of it out of pocket, and then used their $0 interest financing for the remaining balance. On Thursday, I was at their office for 3 hours total. We scheduled my surgery for the next day, Friday at 10am. When I came into the office for the surgery, I had to repeat a few of the eye tests from the previous day. They explained that this is simply cautionary as they want to ensure they have accurate information before starting the surgery. Sounds good - better safe than sorry! Then, they took me to the surgery waiting room. I got a hairnet, started using my antibiotic eye drops, and waited for my turn. About 10 minutes before the procedure, the nurse gave me a Valium to calm my nerves and keep anxiety at bay during the LASIK surgery. Then, it was time for the lasers! To anyone who says LASIK is no big deal, you're a liar. It was terrifying! I hated it! The surgery only took 5 minutes but it felt like forever. They start by suctioning your eyes to keep your eyelids open. Then they use lasers to create flaps in your eyes so they can access the cornea. Your vision goes black during this process. Next, they put you under a different laser to actually make changes to your vision. "Stare at the light" they say... Zap zap zap... Then, you're done! Yes, it was quick and relatively painless, but the suctioning of my eyes felt uncomfortable and the lasering part of it was scary!!! Yes, Dr. Schwartz is great. Yes, his staff is great. Yes, I can see perfectly. Yes, I would recommend it! But, I still stand by my statement that it was terrifying and I hated it. From start to finish, I was at their office for about 2.5 hours. My boyfriend picked me up (you can't drive immediately after the surgery) and took me home. I did my antibiotic and steroid eyedrops as directed and slept for 6 hours. When I woke up, I could see! It's a miracle!!!! My eyes felt super dry and scratchy, but my vision was clear! The next day, Saturday, I went in for my one day post-op check up. I saw Dr. Rhodes again who said my vision is at 20/15 (woohoo!) and everything looked good! They gave me $25 coupon to purchase a pair of polarized sunglasses so I picked out a pair of fancy Oakleys. Polarized sunglasses are a must post-surgery as they protect your new wonderful eyesight from damaging UV rays. I scheduled my one week post-op check up for Friday. After that, providing no complications, I'll be back in three months (and again in a year) for another check up. read more

I promised an update - so here it is!!!! I have four numbers and a symbol to sum up my final thoughts: 20/15 My only unanswered question is, why did it take so long for me to start researching and finally decide to do this????? The day of my "surgery" ( the word "surgery" is SOOOOO OVERRATED) I was a complete disaster. I tried to stay as calm as possible but I was nervous beyond all belief. Nonetheless, I went in as scheduled, ran through a final round of short tests and then off I was - lined up in the small room with everyone else in line for laser treatment. I will admit, it was a little odd sitting next to others in preparation for the "laser". And in my brief moment of nervous insanity I thought I was in a mental institution as I watched others next to me be handed their Valium. I just couldn't wait to get mine! But true to form, when I get nervous or feel awkward I confront it straight on so I lightened the whole room up with some casual conversation. I doubt I'll ever recognize the fine folks ever again, seeing as my eyes had numbing drops and we all had hair nets on with stickers on our heads. You can hear the laser in the room next to you as you watch others come in and out. It's actually a little freaky but also a bit calming since you can ask them how it was, etc. So finally, it was my turn. I literally walked in, took a deep breathe to relax, laid down under the contraption - was coached and talked to the entire time (awesome support docs!) - felt some pressure on my eye - stared at a blurry light. Repeat. 5 minutes later - I WAS DONE?!?!?! Wait. That's it?!?! Yes. That simple. It was actually quite humorous - seeing as I've had more uncomfortable experiences at the dentist office. No wonder it's not that big of a deal for them to line you up in a room with others. It's literally NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL. Doctor Schwartz checks out your eyes under the microscope at the end, and you're on your way!! Your eyes are a little blurry and shocked but I could tell my vision was better immediately. My driver took me home, I slept the rest of the day and night, and my follow up appointment the next day was 20/15. Although there was very little interaction with Dr. Schwartz the day of (he's in the OR the whole time) - his staff is absolutely INCREDIBLE. I could not be more satisfied with the final results and experience as a whole. I would HIGHLY recommend this business fellow Yelpers - but more importantly so glad I did this for myself! read more

All the staff is very friendly. The facility is very nice and clean, and the eye exam is incredibly in depth. I have to do flight physicals, and this place beats any of those eyes exams. I was advised by a trusted friend to go here coz he had his LASIK done in this place, so I did. When I came here, the staff we're really friendly, attentive and approachable. After all the testing, I told them that I'll call to schedule for the pre-op. I called and the person who answered said that I need to call back coz my chart is in the room and she cannot get it coz somebody is using the room. I called again a couple of days and I was put on hold for 20 minutes till I hung up the phone. I called 5x that day and finally somebody answered my call. Again, she said that she needs to call me back coz my paper is in the other room.I told her that I'm getting frustrated coz I've been calling them and I felt like they just don't care and/or not interested in my business. She assured me me that she or someone will call me back in few minutes, however that minutes became a day and few days later NO ONE CALLED BACK. I was really frustrated coz I really want to get an ICL and I'm ready to pay the $6k for both eyes in cash. They are totally UNPROFESSIONAL and doesn't care about their new patients. This is the second time I've gone to Schwartz Laser. The first time was fine but this time I needed new glasses. I realized that after I left they didn't give me the new glasses prescription. I called them up and was told if I wanted it, it would cost me $50. What? I went there, gave them my business and my insurance and they won 't give me the prescription unless I pay them $50? I have NEVER, I repeat, never had this happen to me in 60 years of going to eye docs. If this is their practice, it's my last time there. I have been to some of the most prestigious eye docs in AZ as I have some other issues with my eyes. Not one has asked me to pay for that. I am very disappointed in what feels like a shake-down. I had the best eye exam ever, prior to discussing my lasik interest. I was greeted by several people and made to feel at home. Everyone was extremely patient and answered all of my questions. Not only was it the best eye exam, it was free and they taught me how to use contacts. After that they sent me home with free contacts to make sure lasik was right for me. The eye exam was at least 2 hours and at the end, two doctors greeted me and went over my results including Dr. Schwartz which meant a lot. They were interested in doing the right thing for me, not just the most economical route for them. I wish I remembered all of the names of the people, the staff was great in Mesa! Well now that I'm in my later 50s it is now time for cataract surgery and I chose to go back to Dr. Schwartz because of his Laser Assisted Cataract/Refractive Lens Exchange/Vision ICL Surgery Addendum.
