Absolutely great service. I walked in and had no idea they will be able to do everything that I needed. I was able to get all of my jewelry appraised. I also had a bracelet I have never been able to wear because it was too large and I didn't think there was going to be a way to make it smaller, however they figured it out! I recently went to this location of Schwarzschild's for the same errand I had started with a competitor of their's right across the street. I needed a repair done on an existing mounting. Roxanne took the piece back to the jeweler for an estimate (no two week wait for an estimate). The job was beautifully executed and my piece was treated like a treasure which is a big deal when it's your jewelry. In an era where you can buy certified high end pieces on the likes of Gem Shopping Network; service is everything. Schwarzschild's has been in Richmond awhile, there is a reason. read more

You've heard of Batman and Robin, and Sonny and Cher. Well, get ready to meet your new favorite dynamic duo-- Rozanna and Holt. When my fiance and I started shopping for wedding bands, my mom gifted me my grandma's diamond engagement ring, and I decided to make a custom wedding band using her stone. We went to Zales first, but the saleswoman seemed dubious about whether they could provide the ring I envisioned, and frankly pretty apathetic about the process. We then walked into Schwarzschild, where we were immediately greeted warmly by Rozanna. After showing her my inspiration pictures, she called out Holt, the jeweler. They spent about an hour looking over my pictures and examining my diamond. Rozanna showed me various rings the store offered so I could get an idea of different metals, band widths, and settings. I felt fully informed without ever being pressured into buying  anything that wasn't EXACTLY what I wanted. We met again and Holt drew up some sketches of my ring. One of the concerns was that my engagement ring is sterling silver, but my wedding ring would be white gold. At our last meeting, I left my engagement ring so that Holy could make sure the finishes looked as similar as possible. We just went to pick up the set today and OH. MY. GOD. it is amazing. My beautiful, custom wedding ring complements my engagement ring perfectly. My only complaint is that I have to wait until my August wedding to wear my diamond ring! Throughout the whole process, I felt like they both really, really wanted to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. Holt was incredibly precise with details, while Rozanna was totally conscientious about keeping the ring within our budget. They were both great about keeping the line of communication open, and gave me numerous updates about progress on my ring. Our interactions with the sales staff and jewelers (at all the Schwartschilds Jewelry locations in and around the Richmond, Virginia area) have included a variety of jewelry purchases, jewelry design/redesign, jewelry repairs and estate sales business. The staff is knowledgeable, honest and cares about its customers without applying "typical sales tactics" some other Jewelry stores use - such as inflating prices just prior to having "sales events". We highly recommend Ms. Natalina Klus the Store Manager at the Carytown location. We have exclusively dealt with her for approximately the past five years. So I have only been here to get various watches resized so my review can only be but so extensive here unfortunately. Each and every time I come here the staff is extremely friendly and courteous. When I saw their star rating on here I was actually surprised it was so low. 4 out of the 5 times I've had a watch resized I have paid $10, just once... So I don't know if its them being nice or they stopped charging for this service. Either way I am happy and recommend them to anyone. read more

I had a ring sized here. It was pricey ($180 for 2.5 sizes), but what I thought was reasonable for a jewelry store. They gave me an estimated time of a week (they stated they were busy). The ring was ready within the week and looks and feels great. The store is what you'd expect from a nicer jewelry store--a pinch uncomfortable with expensive jewelry. I have bought a few nice watches and numerous watch straps from Schwarzschild over the years. My previous experiences have been at the Short Pump location. They are always very helpful and nice. They never charge me for changing from watch strap to watch strap. Why? because they know I will be browsing around and perhaps buy something, which sometimes I do. It's the same reason they offer free oil changes when you buy a car, to get you into the showroom. Not the case here. They immediately demanded $10 to change my watch strap and then made no effort to sell me on any of their merchandise. The lady was just too determined to get those few dollars from me. I hope the $10 was worth it. I won't be back. And FYI, Schwarzschild is no longer locally owned. It is family owned, but of the larger conglomerate variety from out of state. read more

Do not go here. I bought a ring for $11,000 for my fiancé here. They told me a could get I lifetime of free repairs as long as I brought it back. A week after our proposal, the ring fell out of its setting. I brought it back and they refused to fix it. Even after I showed my receipt they asked me to leave. I brought it to another store and after I told them where I bought the diamond, they inspected it. (I guess this happens a lot) Turns out it was a cubic zirconia the whole time. They won't return my calls or let me back in their stores. I've had to hire an attorney. read more

I had an outstanding experience here. I bought a set of watches for my fiance and I that my parents gifted us. I worked with Anne Marie who took us very seriously when we just went in to look. She treated us as potential customers and gave us plenty of attention. Because of this, we had high expectations when we went to the other jeweler in town to look at the same watches. Our experience there was lacking and they treated us like we were not serious. because of this, we went back to Schwartzchild. It's interesting though because that other store is now closed. Anyways, our experience here was A+ and I like that they give a 5 year warranty vs the stardard 2 year warranty for the watches. Great service! Would recommend highly. read more

Horrible experience with this company I have purchased from for years. Will not shop there again. Husband purchased diamond bracelet for me two years ago from Swartzchilds. When the clasp failed recently and needed repair, we were told by salesperson, " Talbert" that it "cannot possibly be repaired" by them. What? I'm supposed to keep a broken diamond bracelet on the shelf? His rather aloof attitude did not help. We took it across the street to the local carytown jeweler who did a great job of repairing it. I wear it daily. Another nail in the coffin of " old Richmond " institutions. Of course, I know it was bought by a large company . And it shows. Staying local for future purchases. Too bad Swartzchilds , as I am at the age when disposable income on fine jewelry is more likely than in the past. I'd always heard good things about Schwarzchild jewelers upon moving to Richmond, so since I live in the neighborhood, it was a no-brainer as a matter of convenience to go to the Carytown store to have the batteries replaced in my watches. I've come to realize now that both watches were damaged in the process which resulted to my having to send each to their respective manufacturers for complete overhauls (one of which is at the manufacturer as of the writing of this review). As another gripe, I have always been met with snide and snobbish attitudes whenever visiting the Carytown store. On one occasion, I was walking up to the door on a Saturday near closing and was met by the entire sales staff exiting the store for the evening. When I exclaimed that I thought the hours continued for another 30 minutes, the reply was in a condescending tone that "no" was incorrect that the time was already after hours. But when I checked the website, and even called another of the stores for verification, found that in fact I was correct. And that was the last time I ever approached the doors of the Carytown store. I strongly suggest that all take their business to a place that believes in customer service and retains a watchmaker that knows what he or she is doing. read more

I'm not exactly surprised you don't have a "review" button on your Facebook page. The most abysmal service I have ever received while having watches serviced. I dropped off two vintage watches, a Breitling from the mid 30's and an Omega chronograph from the early 70's, both keeping time and in good running condition, at your Short Pump Richmond location May 27, 2016 and after being as patient as I can for the last FOURTEEN MONTHS I just get them shipped back to me in Florida, where I have moved since leaving them with your store. While there, your "watchmaker" cracked one of the jewels in the Breitling which has rendered it useless. I have been told for months that the only thing that they were waiting on for the Omega was a crystal "coming from Sweden" but with no ETA. I get the watch back, the original crystal is now cracked at the 12 o'clock position, which nobody ever informed me about, and your watchmaker left the tachymetre inner bezel out. Along with the Omega was a note stating: "Please be advised crystal on Omega only snug fit missing part of shoulders that make tight fit. Due to damage" WHO IS PAYING FOR THIS?! I am attaching pics of what the Omega looked like prior to being dropped off and how I got it back. And let it be known, I was never unreasonable. When I originally dropped off the watches I told the manager "I know they're old, I know parts are hard to get ahold of. Are you confident?" These aren't my first vintage watches to be serviced. The response I got was "absolutely, we have a great in-house watch maker and we do this all the time." They called me with a quote, I approved without hesitation, and I was given a fix-date of November 21, 2016 for the Omega and December 21, 2016 for the Breitling. November 21st came and went with no phone calls EVER informing me of the status of either watch. December 21st came and went with no phone calls EVER informing me about the status of my watches. I called on December 27th to find out when I could pick up my watches and that's when I'm told... "they aren't done, we're still trying to find parts, etc". The last time I heard from the store was April 26, 2017. I called just last week after not hearing anything for almost two and a half MONTHS and raised the white flag. DO NOT HAVE YOUR WATCHES SERVICED HERE!! read more

I would suggest going to the Short Pump location where they actually listen to you and treat you like a person. My boyfriend and I went into this store to look for engagement rings. The lady who helped us was Anne and made me feel COMPLETELY uncomfortable from the moment she started helping us. Instead of allowing me to look at the rings they had and pick which ones to try on, she immediately started bombarding me with questions about what I wanted in a ring.... questions to which I didn't really know the answer. When I did answer, it seemed like she didn't actually listen to the answer b/c she kept showing me stuff I didn't want. She then would go and pick out rings for me and still didn't give me time to look in the display cases. She picked 2 or 3 and made me narrow it down from those. Once I did find a band that I kind of liked, she ushered us in to the little room to fit it with a loose diamond. She kept trying to make us buy a larger diamond instead of listening to me when I stated that size was not important and that I was fine with 1/2 carat to 3/4 carat, focusing on a higher quality diamond (ideal cut, better color, etc.) instead. When we said we were going to think about it, she tried to collect a deposit. When we finally stated no, we were going to buy, her attitude, which is not friendly to begin with, got worse. I will NEVER step foot in this store again, nor will I recommend it to anyone I know. The Schwarzchild in Short Pump is much better. read more

I'm so disappointed with my experience at Schwarzschild Jewelers. I recently brought two watches to the Carytown location to have the batteries changed. Dropping the watches off was easy and my request was processed efficient. There wasn't anyone in the store and a sales person came right over to offer assistance. Picking the watches up was a whole other experience. There were a few customers in the store and I waited 3-4 minutes before somebody acknowledged me. When the sales person brought my watches out, she took it out of the bag quickly and it bounced (face down!) off the glass display case and landed on the floor. She brushed it off and said "Oops!" not even apologizing. Her customer service really began to plummet when the computer register wouldn't work. I was asked to move aside so she could check-out another customer. She asked me about my husband's watch and referred to it as the wrong brand name. I kindly corrected her and shared with her that it is another brand, not the one she referred to. Then, she snapped at me and told me that it was the original brand she referred to it as. I'm standing there looking at the watch in front of her reading the label, lady! I certainly wasn't offended that she referred to it as a different brand, I was offended that she was short with me and tried to argue with me about the brand when I was clearly holding the watch reading brand off of it. I held it up so she could see it and she waved me off. To summarize, the whole interaction was just disastrous and by the end of my awkward interaction, I had to ask "Can I leave yet?" because I wanted to get the heck out of that circus! I'm a longtime customer and the changes I have seen over the past few years are unsettling. What a disappointment! read more

My fiance bought my engagement ring from Cowardin's so we went there first when it was time to pick out our wedding bands, but were not pleased at all with the service. So we gave Schwarzschild a try. Amanda was helpful immediately - she listened to what were looking for, gave us great advice, helped us stay within our budget, and - most importantly - didn't pressure us into buying anything. I have had an heirloom watch refurbished at this location and have made some small purchases. Those experiences were fine. Recently we were looking to upgrade my diamond earrings to a larger size. The manager took over from the sales clerk we were working with and didn't seem to be listening to our needs at all. When I told her the color I wanted, she called in 3-4 grades higher (more expensive) in color. She wrote down a higher carat weight than I wanted in a dismissive, "When you see the bigger stones, that's what you'll want . . . " kind of way. Several attempts were made to convince me to buy a different metal than the one I wanted since that was what was in stock. We were told that we would be given the full retail value of our trade-in, but then that was quickly knocked down before we even got to the real negotiation stage. I asked if they could keep an eye on inventory and let me know when what I wanted came along . . . and was told no, that wouldn't work. I also suggested finding a match to a diamond I already had to stay within budget, but that wasn't acceptable to the manager either. She suggested several times that my husband could come in and buy what she called in without my seeing it first if my schedule didn't work out. She just seemed to have one idea in mind -- that we would triple our budget and buy a larger pair of higher color diamonds in the wrong metal -- or else we could go elsewhere. So we did. We bought the same carat weight, branded hearts and arrows, GIA graded "excellent" stones in the color and clarity we wanted for 1/3 of the price she was quoting us for what we didn't want anyway. If she had listened to what we wanted, I would have been willing to pay more to buy locally and see the merchandise ahead of time, but it was obvious that I wasn't going to get what I wanted at this location. The value in buying locally *is* the customer service and customer experience. Maybe the Short Pump location would have been more helpful, as another reviewer suggested. read more
