We decided to visit the Spring Mountain District during our stay in Napa. It was a beautiful drive to Schweiger Vineyards the sun started peaking out from the clouds when we made it to the top of the mountain. When we arrived on the estate we were immediately greeted with a glass of wine before the tasting even started. We got to spend a few minutes enjoying the gorgeous view from various points on the property. Schweiger is an independent, family owned winery that makes limited production estate grown wine on the property. The tasting room is built directly into the mountain. We had the most breathtaking view during our visit - sitting on the balcony overlooking the vineyards. It was peaceful, visually stunning, and the wines were top notch. We loved their Dedication, Cab Franc, and Estate Cabernet. Added bonus: If you love they have the sweetest puppers that will greet you upon arrival. read more

We were picking up some wine so while we were there we booked a tasting as well on a Sunday morning, and it was a beautiful drive up the hills in the Spring Mountain District of Napa. Just the foliage and weather in the fall made the drive unbeatable! We got to the gate of the property got buzzed in drove up to the visitors center and we were greeted by one of the labrador retrievers (super friendly and chill). Our host was super nice, she had our tasting setups already all set up, staring us off with a splash of their sauv blanc. She gave us some cheesey bread sticks to match with the wine. SInce we were the only people at the property, we took our time and just chatted with the host. Super friendly people, great wine and the place was just very welcoming. This was a beautiful winery, nice setting up in the hills. Great wine, Josh was fantastic and it was a wonderful experience.

We attended the Grape Stomp and learned alot about the process, from picking, harvesting, crushing and how they measure the bricks once the grapes have been combined and crushed. It was basically hands on, so we had the opportunity to pick and stomp on the grapes we gathered. In continued to a small luncheon out on the lawn with the beautiful scenary of the vineyard. It was such a unique experience to meet the owners and learn how they do everything from the grown on up, from picking, harvesting, crushing, bottling and so on. Overall, the owners and staff seemed very hospitable, knowledgeable and provided a warm welcoming, not to mention they made sure we always had a full glass of wine. read more

They produce approximately 5000 cases each year, and Schweiger's Cabernet Sauvignon, their most popular wine, encompasses approximately half of that. I started off my birthday with a tasting at Schweiger Vineyards. It was a great choice. This is a small family-owned winery up on Spring Mountain. We were there on a foggy morning, so didn't get the mountain views, but did have a nice view of the vineyards while doing our tasting. I can't say enough good things about Wendy. I felt more like I was talking to a good friend about wine instead of doing a tasting. She's super knowledgeable, friendly and down to earth. She also gave us some great recommendations of other places to visit. We loved all the wines we tried, and shipped home some of the Cab Sauv, the Gate Block Cab Sauv, Dedication, Merlot, Cab Franc, Chardonnay and Iteration. I've been here 3 times and it's honestly one of my favorite places! I've been up to wine country 3 times, this was the first place I was taken to, and since, this is where I bring other to start their first times in wine country. It's such a wonderful place to begin your wine journey. Even the drive up to the winery is just magical. I can't imagine not stopping here every time I'm up in Calistoga/Napa area. It's divine. The Schweiger family is authentic, genuine and a joy to be around. I cannot wait to go and visit again. Ok, can I say that Gregg W. must either be a total neanderthal and moron and unable to understand what his wine host was saying and the d8scussion just went over his head. He also must have been so wasted he couldn't see because Schweiger has some of the nicest, most gorgeous views on Napa Valley that ypu can't possibly miss if you actually go there! I think Gregg W. got his wineries mixed up and his review was for some other place. I have been multiple times so i have been there when its busier and when not, I've seen all of the staff in action and all are amazing, gracious and knowledgeable hosts (Erin is especially fun, Karen is just super cool). This was a new find earlier this year. My husband and I both enjoyed all the wines and more than one stood out for each of us. To top it off, their wines are very reasonably priced. I have done different wine tastings before with my Reckless Seekers Group but never had a wine tasting tour in a vineyard. My boyfriend and I had a wine tasting tour for our first year anniversary and it was highly recommended to us to go to Schweiger Vineyards. Acres of grapevines welcomed us as we parked our vehicle. Wine-Maker Mr. Andrew Schweiger was so hospitable and showed us the area. He explained to us a bit of the wine-making history of the Schweigers. I actually learned a lot of info about the different types of grapes and how they become wines and how they differ from one another. It was awesome! We then started tasting their Chardonnay. I'd say that it was tingly smooth. I loved it. We then went inside their tank and barrel rooms. We tasted all their reds and they were all great! My favorite was the Port and Dedication. I definitely recommend them. This wine tasting tour was really quite an eye-opener for me because it gave me a lot of info about how wine was made and how each type differ from one another. It was a really great experience. This is the type of wine tasting tour I'd organize with my Reckless Seekers Group. I totally want my members to experience the tour I had. It's worth it! read more

Our tasting at Schweiger was one of the highlights of our trip to Napa! The vineyard is a hidden gem up in Spring Mountain complete with beautiful views and vast scenery. My boyfriend and I sat outside on a balcony overlooking the vineyard as our tasting was led by an incredibly sweet and knowledgeable woman. The experience had a much more intimate and personal feel than many of our tastings at other vineyards throughout the trip. Our tasting host made us comfortable and answered our questions, while also making sure to give us some time to ourselves to enjoy the wine and the views! The wines were absolutely delicious, especially the reds. For us, the Dedication wine and the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon were our favorites, and we wound up purchasing a bottle of the Cabernet (it didn't hurt that they wave a tasting fee with purchase!) and are considering ordering more to be sent home. read more

This has to be my favorite vineyard in Napa. We took the most beautiful drive yesterday to get to Schweiger vineyard. We were greeted by a super sweet guy name Josh when we got there. We sat outside in the balcony and enjoyed the breathtaking view while trying 5-6 kinds of wine. They were very generous with the amount of wine they gave. We also had a chance to meet Sally and Frank, who are the owners and sweetest people ever. You really did get the family feel here. Frank grows all the grapes and his son makes all the wine. They started with 8 acres and now they have 55 acres that the family runs themselves. Once we were done with our wine, we were able to take a little tour of the wine making facilities, a tour of where the barrels were stored, and a little short tour of the grounds by Josh. One thing that we loved hearing was Frank's story of the 2020 fire and how he was able to save his vineyard. Side note, their wine is incredible and they are priced extremely reasonable. My husband and I were able to get two vintage bottles for ourselves. Thank you Schweiger family. It was truly the most amazing experience. read more

Part of a day trip to Napa earlier this month. The setting of the tasting room with the view of the valley and the forest as well as the vineyard is impressive. The large wine room (cellar) behind the tasting counter is well placed, and the various vintages as well as various bottle sizes are impressively displayed. The tasting started with a 'breakfast' wine - the sauvignon blanc....It was fresh and crisp but lacked the finish of a smooth new Zealand sauvignon - but still a great start to the day (the first tasting). The host was very pleasant and accommodating, allowing us a taste of several of the cabs and blends as well as their single vineyard cab, which I liked the best and purchased several bottles. A great experience and some super wines. read more

Awesome whites and reds! Perfect view of the vineyard and the club house is really nice. If you like low volume production and exclusiveness this is the place to try in Napa. I am not a white wine drinker but this place chanced my mind with their sauvignon blanc and chardonnay. All of their reds are amazing and they are known for their cab which I drink on regular basis. The grounds are pretty; the wine dogs are nice; the staff are jerks. We booked a reservation a few days before our visit. When we arrived, a few people in our group decided not to drink because they were driving or feeling tired. Our group bought several bottles of wine for over $200. After we left, the manager emailed me a receipt for more than $100 in tasting fees. Their loss. There are lots of other places on Spring Mountain. Try Terra Valentine or Keenan. read more

Four of us visited the winery on February 23rd, 2013. We were greeted warmly by Carly who gave us the best personal attention of any winery we visited in the valley. Of course people go to wineries to taste wine and this wine was superb. We had not purchased any wine to date but the 5 wines we tasted along with such personal attention ( I ask LOTS of questions ) convinced both couples to join their wine club, buy an autographed wine box and I bought a Schweiger golf shirt. Ok, so this place is somewhere I must stress people to go visit. There's only a few places in Napa ever I will say this to and this just got on that coveted list. You must must go here....wait, or maybe not so then this can be my little secret. Seriously though, I was impressed by the small winery. They have a gorgeous vineyard which is still tended by the owner himself who showed up to the tasting room! The wines itself were all very good. I loved their cabs and even bought one. And even fell more in love after tasting their special wine called Dedication. A bit pricey but my friend and I decided to split it....actually she loved the place so much she joined their wine club. I would too but I already am a member elsewhere. Their wine club actually is reasonable than most places I've been to and all their wines I've tried are amazing. We were even treated to get a taste of the Merlot that was given to their wine members (early release) and it was mighty yummy for a Merlot... My friend and I were told it's usually 15 people max at the place which makes it completely a place I'd like to come over and over. I can see staff being still attentive to everyone and you can see how passionate they are about their wines without ever being snotty about your own likes and tastes. My type of winery...what I consider a REAL winery. *sigh* I need a moment....Ok...so go so you can understand how I feel. FYI...make sure to get a reservation and call ahead of time. read more

My first trip to Schweiger was disappointing. I came with a group of five in December, during a brief Spring Mountain winery tour. The site itself is gorgeous. It's easily the most attractive winery on Spring Mountain (that I've visited). Great vistas, and the patio outside of the tasting room is a nice treat. The tasting selection was decent, I don't think anyone in my party had any particular complaints. The tasting itself was really off. Our tasting guide sat at our table with us during the pours, but for some reason between the conversation and the explanation of the wines the whole experience felt a bit scripted and awkward. The real downer for the group was that the tasting fee wasn't waived with the purchase of wine bottles, meant that we couldn't defray the cost of the wines we didn't care for by buying the wines we did like. Don't think I'd recommend Schweiger to others based on my experience. read more

If you're going up to Napa and you really want to drink great wine, not just go to places with tour buses and fancy tasting rooms, this place is awesome. We tried a bunch of places on Spring Mountain Road, and this was a favorite -- and on the more affordable side for the area. There are also other great wineries up on Spring Mountain Road, so call a few in advance to set up appointments and spend your morning and afternoon up on the mountain. read more

Really I have no need to update this review, other than to just say again how awesome Schweiger is. I was back in Napa again this past weekend for a long labor day weekend, and definitely needed to come back to Schweiger. Due to a slightly longer than expected lunch at Bouchon, and crazy labor day traffic, we were about 45 minutes late to our tasting (I had called and pushed it back 30 minutes already). James met us at the bottom of the driveway, and remembered we had been there before. He graciously told us not to worry we were late, and then proceed to spend over an hour with us, he more or less pulled up a chair and just chatted with us about the wine. We had a chance to meet Fred, the owner, too. They had the Sauv Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot, and "Dedication" (4 varietals) open, and they were all fantastic. My favorites were the Cabernet and Dedication. The Sauvignon Blanc is solid too, and very reasonably priced. The view was gorgeous again, this time we sat outside on their lawn with views of the vines and mountains. I cannot say often enough that this is the best tasting experience in Napa. No puppies this time, but I heard from Meghan P that they were around the next day. I ordered another case and had it sent to NY, I'm thinking I'm going to need to join their wine club at some point soon. read more

We decided to go to Schweiger because of 1. Clifford R's insistence and 2. the fact that they have doggies there. I love doggies. Seriously, Schweiger is amazing. Our limo broke down while we were going up the mountain, so we called Schweiger to let them know, and they were flexible and gracious about our situation. We managed to get a ride with a car-full of good samaritans while our limo was towed, and made it to Schweiger about 30 minutes late. They had everything set up for us, with our first tasting outside overlooking the gorgeous view of the valley. We pet their 3 playful doggies, who ran up to greet us as we arrived. Every wine we tasted was really delicious, and the staff paired them with tasty cheese (Humboldt fog, Brie), salami, nuts, and chocolates. After our tasting, they allowed us to hang out at their bar to wait for our replacement limo to come pick us up. They actually stayed late, past their closing time, to enable us to do this. They were outstanding hosts, and Schweiger will always be a "must" on my list every time I visit Napa. read more

We attended Schweiger's Crush party on Saturday Oct 6th with a large party of family members for my birthday. Fred and his entire family could not have been more hospitable and welcoming! From the dogs greeting us at our cars to the hugs as we left for the afternoon, the entire day felt like home. Sally provided us with an amazing lunch on the front lawn of the tasting room/office complete with a happy birthday song and tears from "unsuspecting me". Oh and then there is the wine....some of the best cab in the world and knowing the love that goes into it makes it even better. Thanks to the Schweigers for such a memorable experience!
