I am disheartened to write this review as I was hoping everything would go well with having are Bridal parties hair and makeup done here. The technicians we had our services with were Staci, Kelli and I believe one other woman where we booked Bridal hair and makeup. On my first visit with Staci unfortunately the makeup turned out so poorly it was recommended I go with someone else to complete my look. I really appreciated her honesty and understanding that she was unable to deliver on what I wanted and so I decided to go forward with booking our Bridal parties hair and makeup here. Communication: after we created our appointments and I had requested airbrush makeup for my look I was very surprised when Kelly confirmed my appointment and did not do airbrush but she promised me it would turn out beautiful so begrudgingly I went ahead. Hair- unfortunately even though I had shared we were going to be dancing quite a bit and I have thick hair that does very well with a good amount of hairspray and hair pins, each of our hair fell within just a couple hours. It was quite sad as of course we had a photographer to capture this day. We were constantly fussing trying to push the pins back in and trying to salvage the updos. Makeup- I was positive that the pictures were going to turn out flawless because the look when I left the salon did look very nice and overall was what I requested with a few adjustments and recommendations on my end. However once I received all of the pictures back I noticed how glaringly awful the raccoon concealer looked under my eyes. It is incredibly obvious that my skin is almost three shades a different when picked up by the photos. I am so sad about this our only recourse is to pay to photoshop all the photos I am in. Overall this place is really cute and I really wanted to like it I really enjoyed working with Kelly but unfortunately the quality of the work that came out of everyone's experience was all of our hair was ruined within less than half the night and unfortunately all the professional pictures we took were ruined by how my makeup showed up on camera. This is so disappointing I don't even know what to say. read more

I've loved my results every time I go to this salon. I've had amazing experiences with Gabby and Jen :) also very affordable!! I recently came in with a hot mess for hair and probably 3 different colors happening and Jen worked miracles for me. I wanted blonde highlights for the summer and she did incredible work. I wanted a mix of ashy and golden highlights and that's exactly what I left with :) 10/10 would recommend this hidden local gem to anyone! read more

She is really good with talking through with what you want and does an even better job applying it making sure her customer is satisfied. So I was happy up till da point of da toner was washed out and I went to go sit back in my seat and saw her mess up ....I went from 0 to 100 it's like she didn't listen to anything I said to her in the beginning ....smh Julie Julia however, you spell your name I ask for blonde and you decide to do a different caramel brown tape highlights and when I ask you, why can you do the blonde and you said that it was gonna damage my hair more then why do you think and you're a little life think it's OK to just do a different color I want to tell you I went to three different salons. Die have been in my past life O'Hare the one in Chicago and one over here by my house. They all said this is caramel brown type color is not blonde. If you knew the blonde I wanted which you saw that you couldn't do you should've spoke up Missy and said that you are not gonna be able to do the color I want that we can just go ahead and do just the cover of the grays, but luckily I am going to use a shampoo to fix my damaged hair in a month. I will get my blonde OK Missy so you can have the $200 . I think you needed more your brother probably needed it more. You should stop talking about your brother and his girlfriend OK honey but luckily you know how to do the highlights the straight line so I give you props for that you treated my hair nice no pulling in the blow dry part except you didn't blow dry it right I redid it at home smh I just wanna let you know I have control of my hair what can go in it you do not do whatever you want. I can't be too mad at this place, because I should have seen the signs that my stylist wasn't experienced with the techniques I wanted done and I pretty much had to talk her through what a root smudge was. I even mentioned possibly doing a balayage and she talked around that idea. I had bleach blonde hair and dark roots and just wanted it blended in more so the line of demarcation wasn't so noticeable. What I ended up with was a spotty ombre that was very dark in the front and not pulled down enough in the back. I had to go back for a correction as I had random dark spots showing on the blonde hair. Also, when I informed of her the dark spots she justified it saying it was hard not to get it on the blonde because she had dye on her gloves and its bound to happen when she moves my hair with her hands. Don't you think maybe there is an issue with your technique if you are getting dye where its not supposed to be? After that correction (she only took the mid color and pulled the dye over the dark spots) it didn't look blended at all. ZERO BLENDING. I told her this and she said not to worry it will fade after washing a few times. Not worth the money. I could have had my friend do what she did, maybe even better. I was torn debating if I should write this review because I really really liked the sweet lady who did my hair and she was so nice to talk to. But the hair color was not good at all. For future clients- do your research, ask questions on their technique and KNOW what you want done and stick with it. If the stylist doesn't sound confident, do go through with it. read more

I went to book an appointment about month out, especially with the weather changing. When I got there they told me that I was not on the list to get my hair done, I was furious. Especially for making a appointment a month out you would think they would put that in. Now I have to wait another month to get my hair done. Tip: have communication with the other receptionists while working with each other. This is very disappointing since i've been coming here for years and I never had this situation happened to me. I've been going to this salon for a few years now for cut and color. Staci always does my hair, and it has never come out any less than fantastic. She takes the time to communicate with you about what look you're going for and what steps would need to be taken. I originally went here after a stylist at another salon dyed my hair the wrong color that was quite dark. I talked to Staci after hearing great reviews of her work from friends and family. She spent several hours with me that day bleaching and then redying my hair to the correct shade. Before and then at every step, Staci took the time to explain what was happening. I've always had a great experience at this salon, and I highly recommend Staci as an excellent stylist who really listens to her clients. read more

It matters a ton which stylist you get. If you go here, ask for Cyd. She's always been great for me. I had a cut from one of the other, more expensive stylists and I was worried from the start: 1. I had to interrupt her to tell her where I usually part my hair, she didn't ask. 2. She used a brush on my wet hair (a no no in general and definitely not for fine hair like mine). These are basics every stylist should know to do so the fact that she didn't, worried me. At multiple pts it seemed did not know what she was doing, even though as a spendier stylist she must have more days on the job? I asked her for a length just below the shoulders. Well, my hair now clears my shoulders by 1-2 inches. Instantly when she made the first cut i knew it was too short. About 3/4 thru she asked "is this a good length for you" seemingly realizing it was shorter than we discussed making it. Ummmm. I guess it will have to be! Now Its just hair it will grow. No lives were lost. It just sucks that my hair will be driving me crazy for a few months until it grows out. We all have off days but generally speaking $55 including tip should be enough to get an approximately correct hair length right? So, word to the wise, choose your stylist carefully! Cyd is amazing, which is why this place gets 3 stars and not two. read more

My sister recommended I go there but she just got a trim so I don't know why I listened to her but anyways I went to trim my bangs just a smidge and well....my bangs are now way above my eyebrows. I came home sobbing to my mom because I've never had a more traumatizing salon experience in my life. I paid and tipped because I'm not the type of person to just not do that but wow. If you still go there just don't let Karen chop your hair. When I walked in I greeted everyone at the door and was ignored and when Karen told me to come to her chair she just jumped straight into it she seemed like she was in a huge rush to leave. I came in on Saturday afternoon after booking my appointment online. My stylist was ready and waiting for me. After going over what I wanted she washed my hair (sigh, heavenly) and got to cutting. She was awesome! My hair is very thick and many people don't really know how to thin it out to make it lay nicely. Staci thinned it like a pro and gave me a great cut! I do hair myself and am EXTREMELY picky! I was in a bind and had to do something so I gave in and went to a salon I've never been to. I can't explain the anxiety I get when I get my hair cut. It's really long and I know exactly how I want it done, but I can never get anyone to get it right. Well Karen did an AMAZING job! I felt bad, because I was telling her how I like it cut and kind of telling her how to do it. I finally gave up and said just do it I trust you! (I realize that I sometimes try to guide people through the haircut rather then just them do it..Sorry Karen :-/ ) But I can't believe how great it was! I left I went home and I didn't have to pull my own shears out and fix it which is usually what I have to do lol! I highly recommend Karen! She was amazing! read more

Absolutely love this place. I literally live down the street from this salon but have never tried it out. Tonight while searching for a place to try out in hopes that i would find my next stylist i finally decided to try this place out. After 7 years of living in oak lawn! I was impressed! I walked in and it immediately felt homey and like the type of place id like to call my hair home! Well i was greeted by Gabby who turned out to be the stylist cutting my hair. Can you say super friendly!!!! Ive had this whole thing were my hair is nuts and very damaged on one side and have tried to explain it to many people to no avail! Usually getting told that im crazy. Well Gabby started to cut my hair and over the course of the cut she started to mention how she did notice the difference from one side of my hair to the other. Thank you Gabby for letting me know that im mot crazy! She was so pleasant and very informational. Ive never had anyone talk as much to me in the chair as she did which i absolutely love! Needless to say inwas blown away by my experience there! To top it off since it was my first visit i got 50% off my service which was awesome! I booked my next appointment for color and know that i will kot be disappointed! I would highly recommend this plce to anyone looking for a new hair salon! I've been going to Scissor Hands for about 2 years now, after several awful experiences at other local (higher end!) salons. I've received several fine hair cuts but mostly go for highlights/balayage and Tammi has delivered on my requests every time. She does a great job listening, looking through my inspiration photos, and telling me whether my asks are realistic. She doesn't over promise and under deliver, which I really appreciate. I do think her coloring techniques are a little outdated, so for edgy looks another stylist is probably a better choice, but I've never left unhappy. Tammi knows exactly how to mix and apply color for each person's specific hair as opposed to just doing the same thing for everyone. I've also loved seeing the color jobs that her coworkers produce on others. I'd easily trust anyone I've seen there to do my hair. I highly recommend giving them a try. I admit, I was skeptical. The name and strip mall don't scream of a high-end experience, but I was happy to give up the fancy decorations & scalp massage for a job done right at reasonably prices. Kelly did a good job of thinning out my hair and trimming my split ends. First time customers get 50% off so my haircut was only 12$ instead of 24$. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is bc when she went to wash my hair she didn't put a towel on my neck so my sweater got a little wet but other then that everything else was fine! I do wish I checked out their website beforehand and read the stylists bios as their prices vary.
