We walked in before they were even open and she still welcomed us in. She gave my kids an entire tutorial on how donuts are made, showed them the process, and even let them see the register. And I promise this is genuinely an anonymous review. I have zero connection to the business. I just honestly feel like this level of kindness and customer service barely exists anymore, and she was absolutely amazing. We got the mochi donut with soft serve combo. The biggest disappointment this place sells the idea of soft serve but it's just ice cream they run through this machine that breaks it down and makes it softer. Probably should've skipped on this but wasn't aware u til it was too late. The donut though was fantastic so wish I got more do those. All this being said, management needs to reexamine their employee policy on Sunday night. There was just one employee working everything, from boba, to soft serve to cashier. She handled it like an absolute boss but less than understanding customers could get angry at the wait that ensues when she's trying to do it all on her own. She deserves 10 stars.

The parking lot was pretty empty. It was a bit of a cool night and there was no line. I looked at the different flavors and there were a few. I opted for a soft serve. I just got the plain vanilla, but had it dipped in the butterscotch shell because I was feeling nostalgic for the dipped cones I had as a child. The woman helping us was patient while we made up our minds. I needed napkins as it started dripping immediately, even through the thick coating. We sat at the tables outside and ate our cones. The butterscotch tasted ok but it was really thick and waxy so I didn't finish it. If I were in the area i might come back and get ice cream or soft serve again but skip the dip.

Kia was incredibly kind, patient, and genuinely sweet. She gracefully listened while I shared a little of my story, offered compassion, and then proceeded to create what may have been the most ridiculously delicious dessert I've ever had. We did a gluten-free double chocolate + chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich with toasted marshmallow ice cream, drizzled with hot fudge, and they heated it up... I am not exaggerating when I say I nearly cried. Actually, I did cry (just lost my job and It was that good ). Warm gooey cookie + cold melty toasted marshmallow + hot fudge magic = absolute perfection. Thank you, Kia, for your kindness on a hard day and for making a dessert I will absolutely be dreaming about.

Parking in downtown Encinitas is extremely difficult but if you know where the train parking lot is located, there is a ton of free parking almost always available.

PURCHASES: *Standard x2 [2 half scoops of ice cream so you are able to try more than one flavor] -Milkiest Chocolate & Banana Cream Pudding [dairy free] -Double Dough & Black Tie Tiramisu Everything here is creamy- dare I say, some of the creamiest ice creams I've ever had. My favorite is 100% black tie tiramisu. The least favorite was the banana cream pudding- most likely due to the diary free aspect. 4 stars overall. Seating may be challenging but with our visit being on a warm night, crowds opted to stand outside or ended up sitting in truck beds.

I live in Northern California and have been to the other two brick and mortar locations on past trips to San Diego, so I knew what to expect and brought some local family along to experience the flavor tour. The first thing to know is that the names of An's don't tell you it is gelato. They are named after the businesses that preceded the space and are decorated with that theme. There are usually 7-8 flavors to sample before making your selection. The team is very friendly and helpful with questions (or with a new spoonful if your gelato slips off and onto the floor). If you don't want to experience the flavor tour, avoid the line and go straight to the cooler inside to choose a pint, purchase, and go. We had a great time, as expected. Our wait time in line was about 45 minutes. I LOVE chocolate, so I had a small size with Cypress and No Signal. My cousin loves fruity flavors, so he had the palate cleanser (lemon & ginger) and Straw-hat (mango & passionfruit). The most popular flavor is Leather (brown butter and cookies). Every flavor is excellent. It's really hard to choose. We were told a new location is coming to Oceanside at the former Top Gun house, so I'll be headed there once it opens on a future San Diego trip.
