When I moved to Portland 11 years ago there seemed to be a dive bar like Scoreboard on every corner. You know the drill: Strong, knock you on your behind drinks that cost a handful of dollars, pool tables, juke, shabby furnishings, and sports on the TV. Now it's all "mixology" bars and brew pubs, which is fine and good and dandy (I like those things) but sometimes you just want a proper, old school boozer. The Scoreboard ticks all the boxes: Cheap, lethally strong drinks, friendly bartenders, pool, sports, etc. I came here twice on my last trip home. First time was a totally dead Friday night, which was fine as I just wanted to enjoy my insanely cheap pint of beer over a conversation with a friend and head to bed at a reasonable hour. Next time I came in on Thursday night to catch the end of the karaoke session. The place was rollicking at one am, everyone dancing to the karaoke together, being sociable, and generally having a great time. I can't remember the last time an impromptu dance party broke out a bar or the last time I had convos with random strangers at a bar. This was kind of a weird place. It's called the Scoreboard. We were looking to play some pool and listen to music or watch some sports highlights. When walked in it was full. There was a line to get a drink however there was no music playing and everyone was watching full house. That TV show with Bob sagit and the Olsen twins (in case you didn't know). AND EVERYONE was glued to it. It was so bizarre. Not what we were looking for at all, we moved on. read more

All the negative reviews about this place make me wonder if one or several of the erected structures up and down "D-Street" serve as the container wall for giant (in this case we will say luxury studio size) childrens tylenol containers. This place is so very good for football on Sunday morning, well that's the only time I have been there. On one side of the bar they have a seperate room that has about 6 flat screen tv's each with a different game going, three or four rows of tables all accompanied with comfy swivel chairs (all the chairs facing toward he tv's). They have more tv's in the main part of the bar also but I like the class room style room cause I focus more on the game (I'm trying to learn more about football). They also have a pretty decent menu and they were pretty flexible with me to make me something vegetarian and the way I wanted. Prices aren't bad either. read more

How can this place not be getting knocked down and replaced with condos yet? Someone must be holding out for more money cuz it's a huge bar that always has like three people in it. Last time I went in, it smelled like an animal had died somewhere and they hadn't bothered to look around and remove it from behind the video poker machines or wherever it was decomposing. Yipes, this was one of the saddest dive-ish bars I have been to. We met a friend who lived up the street and had made this place his own but it was one of the most depressing evenings in a while. That night we were the only people not hunched over their drink and staring blankly at the TV. Maybe we caught a bad day, but if I were going back to that block I might stick with the overly bearded bunch at North. And I do hate me some beards. read more

I give 3 stars for it being quite an upgrade in food and service since my last visit many years ago. Still baffling with it's windowless, stark atmosphere, but not a bad place at all to catch a game and some pints, which is the formula for most every sports bar out there. I discovered this joint in back in 2004 while watching the playoffs where the Sox killed the Yanks after being down 3-0, and went on to win it all. Back then, PBR pints were a buck, all day, every day. Changes in ownership have happened since: up, and down, and up again. Lately, they have great specials on drinks, good food for a sports bar, and an awesome Taco Tuesday. The service is above par, exceptional. For that reason it is a great place to chill with the crew, and take in the games, with tons of TV s. Why don't I give them a fifth star? I love a good dive bar, but this place is like somebody's depressing basement rec room. It also seems to be lacking heat; they had a space heater on the bar, but there was no indication that there was any other type of heat in the place and it was so cold that almost everyone in the bar was wearing a winter coat and hat inside. You bring whatever you want to this party. Some folks like sports and there is of course a great representation there. Also means a few more XY's. I was really surprised how expensive their special drinks are, but it's just not a foofy place. They have a great jukebox and I have never found anything to be lacking other than the food a couple times. That is one thing I can say that made me a little peeved is that one day the food was totally on point and another it was just sad... somehow burnt and yet also soggy. But I am keeping my 4 stars because I have really enjoyed my time there and I feel like some of these other reviewers were maybe looking for something that doesn't occupy this spot. read more

Cool place! Comfy chairs to watch the game, decent prices, excellent/helpful in discovering new drinks bartender. Funny movies on after game(hangover, etc.) 3 pool tables, 2 SKEE BALL! And a wall of pin ball:) overall very chill place to just kick it and have a good time read more

New bartenders unresponsive to games and channels, regardless of fanbase. Food is mediocre. Don't recommend for sports fans.

It's not a very busy bar which I like. I especially go for the pinball machines. The beer is cheaper than other neighborhood bars. The food is worse than other neighborhood bars. Mostly clean. Furniture is old and somewhat uncomfortable. Otherwise okay place. read more

Went to this dive to play some pinball as they just installed 10 great titles. Discovered two not working when I attempted to play them. Got refund from Bartender pretty easily. I Had ordered a Beer and before the last gulp noticed two fruit flies dead and floating! It is July and no air conditioning makes it pretty stuffy in this well weathered watering hole. I'll give this place two stars as the Bartender was nice enough . read more

Good old school Portland dive bar. Stiff drinks and they had the game on, so no complaints there. My one and only suggestion would be to have a bigger bar menu. A place like this would be a sure fire thing, if they would invest in a cook and a grill. Places like this were known for slinging good burgers, back in the day. Booze and burgers? When I walked into this bar I was very optimistic...lots of games and activities to choose from. Unfortunately I was soon disappointed with an utter lack of customer service, common courtesy, or follow through on services offered. I chose to play some video poker and won $300...should be a good thing right?! No, when I took the ticket up to the counter to be cashed, the waitress informed me that she was too busy and that I would have to come back the next day to cash it. I looked around and saw nobody in line and pointed this out, so then she said she didn't have enough money in her till. So onto the next day when I had to go out of my way to go back to this bar and cash my winning ticket. The waitress that day listened to what happened took my ticket and cashed it without saying a word. I asked if the owner or a manager was available and she informed me that there were no managers. I explained the inconvenience of being offered a game to play and then refusing to cash it then having to come back and not getting the tiniest amount of customer service i.e. "Sorry for the inconvenience". This waitress, with the most snide smile on her face then decided to say "I'm sorry". ...great layout of the bar, great games, great location, the female bar tending staff on 3/27 and 3/28 need some customer service classes and/or a little common courtesy. read more

extra tax on drinks :( i had been to this bar two times prior to my last visit. i was last there this past thursday and the bartender was just finishing her shift she said. it was about to be 11. i order a drink, knowing the price it should be already, but when she tells me the price, its almost a dollar more than it should be. i am thinkilng maybe the prices differ according to the time or something. i am feeling a bit uneasy in the moment to ask her if she is correct because i am thinking perhpas the mistake is mine. i pay her, and i tip her, but it was really bothering me. my bf and friends felt i was in the right cuz we all had been there two weeks prior, so i asked the next bartender what the well drink should cost. it did turm out that the previous bartender did overcharge me. i really hate these kind of gestures from workers and its gonna prevent me and my bf and my karaoke groupies from going there again. read more
