That bartender, Brie, she's just the worst. The food is always good. Always polite. Not what I want from a dive bar.

I attended a private event here, and was quite happy with the experience! Brooklyn Park Pub has a very unique vibe, with lots of very kitschy décor. I especially appreciated the wide variety of non-alcoholic items available. While I didn't order any food, the menu seemed very appropriate in size and content for a bar. Prices were very much on the low side. Parking is strictly street, as there's no private lot. The biggest issue is that of safety, and the short, raised concrete stoop at the entrance / exit door. Not only did I sort of fall off of it and onto the sidewalk when leaving, another attendee shouted, "I did exactly the same thing" from across the street when they saw me almost fall. While I was chatting with them a bit, another patron left, and did the same. If any owners / management of Brooklyn Park Pub read this, PLEASE do something to address this hazard! read more

This neighborhood bar is a gem. The bar is spacious and inviting, with a wonderful bartender ready to pour to your liking. The drink menu has great suggestions if you are feeling a bit overwhelmed, so choose the drink for a cause and you can't go wrong. Our group joined the Whiskey Club, where you enter a different whiskey that you have consumed while visiting. They keep the list on file and there is no expiration date, so drink at your leisure. What do you get other than a scarred liver? A t-shirt proclaiming your Whiskey Club Crowning at Brooklyn Park Pub, $1.00 off all whiskey drinks for life, and bragging rights. The patio out back has plenty of room to gather with friends. Enjoy this bar, I wish I had this in my neighborhood. Great service and a fun time was had by all. read more

This is a cozy little place. First time there last night to hang out before the Sam Bush show at Aladdin. Watched the Mariners Blue Jays game. Good music playing, including Witch (from Zambia). There was a nice dog that I got to pat. The service was great, the host was very kind and let me sample a couple beers. Great food too. I enjoyed the laid-back vibe. read more

I've been coming here for 6 years now. I'm no longer a regular but only because I don't live in the neighborhood anymore. They have a solid whiskey selection and the majority of the bartenders are knowledgeable and can make good recommendations. Completed a whiskey club card there and that was a lot of fun. Standard pub fare for food but nothing wrong with that, especially when paired with one of their good beers on tap. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Small but decent beer selection (broken down by type), nice whiskey selection, decent pub food menu and friendly staff. I have never sat inside, only outside. The patio is pretty big and has some heated, covered seating on one side and open seating around. I like going there when I'm in the neighborhood because it's chill and there's always space outside. read more

Nice Whiskey collection and tasty burgers. This dive bar is a fun stop when I am biking around SE Portland. I like to watch them cook my smash burger on the flat griddle. I don't think there could have been a more appropriate bar for me to venture into. Yes it is called Brooklyn Pub, in a part of Portland called Brooklyn, and I have to be a born & breed Brooklynite visiting, but it was divey, had inexpensive beer, and the largest selection of whiskey in all of Portland. Did I mention Rockem Sockem Robots? This was the first bar I was visiting on a beautiful Saturday afternoon after stuffing my face elsewhere. I came for some drinks, but I got so much more. Our bartender was great. She was funny, friendly, and knew how to do her job. That whiskey selection is amazing. If you like fine whiskey, this is your spot. They had lots of televisions so I got to see some Mets and Islanders action while in the bar. One televisions is dedicated to Groundhog's Day. Yes the Groundhog's day with Bill Murray. How do you ask? Well they play the movie all day, everyday! The backyard is gorgeous. It was a great way to soak up some sun. Best of all they had Rockem Sockem Robots which I hadn't played in forever. I still got it though. Undefeated champ of the day! Alas, eventually it was time to explore some more of Portland, but Brooklyn Pub was indeed my favorite. read more

Honestly, I wouldn't have have ever visited this place unless I hadn't moved to the neighborhood. It's a perfect neighborhood, after-work decompression kind of dive bar, serving up an impressive selection of whiskeys and a decent rotation of beers. The Scotch Ale is my fav. The Groundhog Day theme was fun too, complete with a constant repeat of the 1992 Bill Murray movie, for the entire week surrounding the holiday. If you are in your mid-30's, you'll LOVE the juke box. Whiskey isn't my poison of choice, so the selection was somewhat limited. I settled on a screwdriver, which was just okay. There were only about 3 vodkas to choose from, and I hadn't heard of any of them. Hey, this place is okay! I'm fairly newish to this particular hood and for some reason, i guess due to the kinda dorky looking sign, I thought this bar would be filled with yuppies drinking microbeers. Not that I don't like yuppies drinking microbeers, but whatever. My roommate said it used to be non-smoking AND that they used to have a swearing jar that they would make you put money in if you swore, which is kinda funny just because it reminds me of that Mr. Show sketch and d. cross in the bathtub filled with quarters, but also makes me say "what up dude?! Why are you listening to my conversation anyway?" But now it's smoking (until january i presume) and i'm pretty certain i swore a swear when i was there and wasn't penalized. Also, they have a nice bar for sitting. And I like their tall tables. And they have one of those computer jukeboxes but it has a good selection. A *fucking* good selection. Ding! read more

I am literally here every week, usually after a game of futsal. And frankly I look forward to hanging out at the BPP in my sweaty soccer clothes than playing the game itself. The bar is everything a bar should be: cozy, friendly with good selection of beer and whisky. Nicole is my go to bartender - she pretty much knows everyone in the bar and what they're drinking, hoppy for my friend, half and half for me... And if you're real nice you may get the special vessel for your libation. Here are the perks for you futsal fiends, free tots for the team and free beer for the MVP. My only complaint is the owner seems to be Coug's fan, as a Husky I can't condone such lewd behavior. (But I suppose there are worse crimes.) read more

They serve drinks in mason jars. I don't know why I enjoy drinking out of mason jars so damned much, but I do. Small beer selection, great drink specials, and a Whiskey Club that The Bud is slowly working his way through on his way to a free t-shirt and a buck-off-whiskey/bourbon-for-life (or at least until this place changes hands or closes shop). He'll be happy with just a t-shirt, I'm sure. Can anyone explain the whole groundhog/woodchuck theme they have going on? The doorway and, well, every wall are covered with pictures of these critters, each with talk bubbles where people have written in witticisms, indelicacies, or things that just make you say, "Huh?" So this quaint little dive is located right off of Milwaukie and is perhaps the best place to throw a few back in the Brooklyn neighborhood. One thing that pissed me off was that this place tries to tout itself as a "sport's bar" however when my brother asked if they had the MLB package (that's the Major League Baseball television package for all you non-enthusiasts) I believe the barkeep's reply went something like this: "huh?" This is of course happening as I am looking at all of the MLB memorabilia on the wall.... In any case this is the only bar I know of in the area with a half decent dart board and, to be honest, a really great beer selection (lots of imperials on tap, which always makes for an enjoyable night). It is dirty but then again what do you expect from a bar that is known for its massive whiskey selection? On another note it's about time the Brooklyn hood got some love. I know it's not the classiest area but then again it beats any Concept Entertainment hell hole (think Dixie and the monstrosity of a bowling alley, Grand Central). 4 stars for a great all around booze/beer selection. 2 stars for being about as clean as my freshman dorm room was. read more

I've been coming to this place for several years now after my futsal games down the street. It's a great place to wind down and have a beer or two. They've got five taps that rotate regularly. Nate, the owner, does a good job of mixing things up in this department to keep it fresh. It's a good little place to watch sporting events of all kinds and it is especially soccer friendly. Apparently, they've got quite a whiskey collection. I don't touch the stuff, but a friend of mine who lives in the neighborhood managed to complete the requirements of the whiskey club that's been mentioned here. Congratulations. read more

I moved into the Brooklyn neighborhood about 3 months ago, and in that time have visited the Brooklyn Park Pub a handful of times. Each and every visit has been enjoyable, and the service is always friendly. After the very first visit, the bartender even remembered my name! They have a great jukebox, and I swear my bf is addicted to their tater tots. I like the bloody mary's myself. (yum!) My one complaint is that I wish their beer selection was better (larger?), but they ARE a whiskey bar, after all. So I can't really complain. All in all, it's a great place to stop in for a drink or three! And, if you happen to be in the neighborhood because you're going to a show at the Aladdin Theater down the street? Make your way past the two bars that are closer to the theater. This one is BY FAR superior to those, and it's really just a couple of blocks father down the road and across the street. Friendly staff, good food, good beer and a huge selection of whiskey. Can't go wrong so far. It definitely is a dive bar but that's still not going wrong because dive bars tend to have some of the best bar food around. I really like the quality of the fried foods. They seem to keep the oil temp hot, the oil changed often and they don't have any fish products to it never seems to have the tasted tainted. They also have a great food cart out in back in the pation area in case you want something more varied. I personally really like their $6.50 offerings . . . . hamburger & fries/tots, chicken strips & fries/tots or onion rings for $1 upgrade. The place is small inside so there is no video poker and only 1 or two video games. Give it a try though. It is approx 3 blocks from the Aladdin Theater so it's close if you're going to a concert. read more

I've been wanting to check this place out for a while now. I had no idea what to expect, all I knew was that they had a whole lot of whiskey. It's a great little "dive bar" in SE. It wasn't crowded at all and the bartender there was really nice. They have their regular whiskeys on a menu, and then they have a chalk board with all the specials they have. Then there is the whiskey club, where after consuming 30 shots of whiskey, you have the privilege of ordering from the club list. They keep your club card on file at the bar which is pretty cool. They have a few beers on tap too, but only 1 per style of beer. And the had a Rock 'Em Sock 'Em to play. You can't really beat that. read more

I give tons of credit to the super friendly bartenders who do a great job dealing with sweaty soccer players on top of keeping the locals happy. There's a pretty sweet outdoor area with picnic benches, cornhole (the game), and a food cart, too -- perfect for the sunnier/warmer days in Portland. I wish this pub was in my neighborhood. It's a great, friendly spot, with an amazing whiskey selection and a thoughtful tap list. The smallish pub has a nice, open feeling, and they are on good terms with the delicious BBQ cart next door. They have something like 150 whiskeys available at any given time. In addition to a lot of standards, they have rotating selection on the chalkboard with a bunch of stuff I've never heard of, and interesting versions of some of your standard, aged variants, ryes, blends, whatever. Unfortunately for you and me, about half of the chalkboard bottles are only available to you after you've qualified for their whiskey club by consuming 30 different shots. If only they knew. I accept the challenge, and at this rate should be able to hit the select whiskeys by the end of 2014. I don't recall the taps exactly, but IIRC there was a cider, something from Boulevard, and about 5 more in a range of styles. I was a bit more focused on the distillations, I suppose. The only real drawback to this neighborhood pub (other than its lack of proximity to my house) is the fryer. Back in the days of the smoking free-for-all, the tarry clouds may have masked the greasy fumes, but those days are past, and you get a clear scent of the fries they're making. It's not that bad, but having stood over a fryer before, I'm fairly sensitive to that greasy feeling. I will definitely go back...I have 28 more tasters to get through before I'm a full-fledged citizen. read more

This unassuming little place has quickly become one of my favorite spots to grab a beer, whiskey, and a bite in SE PDX. I don't think it would be my first pick on a warm, sunny day in Portland, but for the more traditional grey, rainy evening in the Rose City, it's perfect! Located right over the Ross Island Bridge (if you're coming from the deep SW like I am) and just a few blocks south of the Aladdin Theater in the Brooklyn neighborhood, the BPP is basically a single room, including a smallish bar fronted by about eight 4-top tables, and maybe 4-5 televisions showing various games (usually muted, but I believe they do have NFL Sunday Ticket package). It's cozy without being uncomfortably crowded and easy-going without being sleepy. Some of the highlights of the BPP include: -Epic whiskey list and opportunity to sign yourself up for the whiskey club (drink 30 distinct whiskies, including at leaset 5 scotch, 5 bourbon, and 5 rye...no, not in one sitting...the BPP marks your progress and gives you a lifetime $1 off discount, plus an official BPP cap...woo!) -Nice selection of beers, all served out of the always-pleasing mason jars...nightly beer specials based on varietal of beer (IPA, pale, pilsner, wheat)...also blue collar favs like Rainier and High Life -Solid, if a bit unspectacular, food that is 100% prepared by the friendly bartenders...so make sure the bar isn't slammed when you order or you'll be waiting awhile. -BUT, they often have a tasty food card parked around back that is allowed to serve food inside to drinking patrons...just order out back and resume elbow bending - they find you inside when your order is ready. -Other misc. cool stuff like vintage board games and random groundhog decor Great speakeasy kinda spot that's always a satisfying. read more

An understated neighborhood pub with an impressive Whiskey Selection. It's dark, if it's sunny outside, you have to adjust for a few minutes when you make your entrance. The owner and staff are relatively young, but it feels like an old man's bar - it's not. It's comfortable. Loads of clutter on the wall, sports memorabilia, old posters, pictures of groundhogs. They play the movie Groundog's Day - everyday, I think. The staff is friendly, they have an outside area with loads of tables and direct sunshine. Park on the street, sometimes a little difficult to secure a spot. It's a hidden gem for watching some sports. 6-8 beer taps, all rotating fresh beer, covering the spectrum of styles. Rainier is their cheap beer on tap. They offer a few cans, bottles. I like the different glassware they use. Once my beer came in a German Ceramic Stein, well I did order a Warsteiner. Yesterday, I had a Loowit Fresh Hop IPA served in a mason jar type, it was pretty malty, but good. They offer food. I haven't dined here, but I heard someone order a Reuben. The bartender does it all. 2pm on. No Ouzo here. They added a sign below their marquee emphasizing their Whiskey. Pretty substantial list and I'm sure their staff is trained. I don't know if this comment helps, as I don't always partake in Whiskey, but I do like it. read more

Whoa boy! This review is LONG over due! I've spent many, many an evening here over the years and the Brooklyn Park Pub will always be one of my favorite pubs in town. The first time I was in this establishment it was the not-so-great Brooklyn Station (think a bunch of old guys eating lil' smokies out of a crockpot... a crockpot that gawd only knows how long had been sitting on the bar). Then, a new owner came in, cleaned the place up a bit and turned it into a run-of-the-mill sports bar called "Who's On First"... it was just sort of meh. No real personality. It wasn't until Nate took over this bar that it turned into the charming little watering hole it is today. Aesthetically, he gave a nod to the previous owners and kept it more like a sports bar; however, it was all the little things he did to really make this place shine. Nate worked hard to build community at the pub, in a variety of ways. From Groundhog's Day anniversary celebrations, board games with discounts on drinks during a big game, traditional holiday dinners (for folks who had no where to go) or encouraging us all to discover (and talk to each other about) the wonderful world of whiskey. Nate has also made some really good decisions about his staff. Turning a meh bar into something far more interesting takes more then just good beer and whiskey. You've also got to have a killer staff that relates to the customer and that are really personable. And that is exactly what Nate has done. While some of his staff have come and gone, just about all of them were great. BUT, there are two bartenders that will always stand out to me: Roman and Gretchen. They are both so incredibly awesome and have been slinging whiskey and delicious cheesesteaks at BPP for quite some time. But I digress... (typical!) Do yourself a favor. The next time you are heading to the Aladdin for a show, give yourself an extra hour or so for pre-funk. Skip the bar next door and walk a couple blocks further down Milwaukie to the BPP. Order the featured whiskey, a delicious micro brew and a philly (or ruben)... You won't regret it! Oh, and don't forget to add that whiskey you ordered to your card. Welcome to Whiskeyland, folks! The coolest thing about this bar is their "Whiskey Club" - even if Bourbon, Scotch or Rye aren't your usual go-to beverages, the club sends you on a little adventure. If you're willing to try it, maybe you'll find you're a fan of something and didn't even know. Like me. I apparently dig on Scotch and had no idea until recently. It's a fun game. The bartenders are super knowledgeable and have always been happy to make suggestions. There is no judgment here. Bonus since I am clueless about most things whiskey... I came in with a friend of mine that just moved into the neighborhood and was super disappointed in this bar. Being from the service industry myself, and being a frequenter of serval bars in the area, I have a lot of forgiveness when it comes to slow service but not only did it take at least 5 mins for the bartender, who had 3 people their bar, to take our order they also very rudely informed us they didn't have flavored whiskey. Which is fine but we could do with out the rudeness or judgement. Wish I could say I would come back and give you another chance but that is never fucking happening. For coining yourself as a neighborhood bar you don't do a very good job at being kind to your neighbors. read more
