If you have a problem with this bar, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what makes a great bar. If you can't wait for fresh fried chicken, you have no idea what it takes to fry chicken.

It's been awhile since I've eaten at Reel M Inn as I've been getting my FC fix at other places and at their sister restaurant lately. I love that despite having not been here in awhile, everything was the exact same since I last been and it's pretty much the exact same since I first started coming here like 10+ years ago. The layout, the paint, the furniture, menu boards, etc its all the same with the exception of upgraded video poker machines. The most important question however, was did the chicken stay the same? There are a ton of good to great fried chicken places in Portland at various price points and variety, yet there aren't too many places that stack up to REI (1st Street Pocha is one of my other favorites). On this day they were running a Breast and 2 Jojo special for $5 which was a steal and even better because I wasn't that hungry. It took about an hour to come out and OMG it was freaking massive. I forgot how big these suckers were but the breast was thiccccc! The jojos are always massive bc they are basically 1/4 of a potato, however on this day the breast was so darn large, that it made the jojo's look tiny by comparison. Upon first bite, it tasted as good or even better than I can remember. I couldn't believe how damn juicy the breast was. Breast is probably my least favorite part of the chicken, I hardly ever get it...but I know that they never fail to cook em perfectly at REI so I felt safe getting them here. The amount of juice coming out of that breast meat was like a potsticker it was so cool. The whole thing was so large and piping hot that I opted to eat it with a fork and was able to drench each piece in their homemade ranch. It's wild to me that a tiny operation like this can make homemade ranch off minimal staffing and charge so little for food. It was comforting knowing that in the tumultuous times we are living in, both in terms of local favorite restaurants closing and how rapid the political landscape has been changing, that Reel Em Inn has felt like it's been insulated from the outside world and has been preserved from a time when Portland was the quirky weird Portland that made it great.

One of the best dives in Portland for a reason. Tasty fried chicken and jojos at a perfect price. Friendly service and outdoor seating are a plus. If I lived any closer I'd probably go once a week

food took almost 2 hours but honestly you should come here only focusing on the fun that you can have with friends and just view the food as a delightful bonus!! the food was bland but no negatives really just neutral hot food that absolutely gets the job done for people drinking!! i loved the size of the jojos it made me feel like a dinosaur. one jojo in and you can immediately feel the meteor hit.

This place is a local gem. They must visit while in Portland. One of the best dive bars that I've ever been to. The bar is a bit on the smaller side, but they do offer some casino machines and also have a pool table. But that's not what you come here for. You come here for the amazingly price beer and alcohol specials, and the chicken. If the alcohol specials aren't enough to get you here, the chicken will. If this place was a standalone chicken restaurant, I would still visit this location just to have their chicken. That's how great it is. I'm glad I have some local friends that recommended this place to me, this will always be a place I visit when I am in Portland, I recommend you do there same

Fried chicken ranks top on my food chain, and Reel M Inn has it locked down as one of the best! The wait for their prized chicken goodness can be quite long (1 deep fryer) at 1 hour plus, but I am certain not a single person will complain once you've eaten here. I often bring a side of white rice and Thai sweet&sour sauce as accompaniment to complete my experience. Their perfectly cooked juicy fried chicken and Jojos will be sorely missed once I move back to L.A.

The legendary dive bar for their fried chickens and jojos. Can confirm both are indeed amazing! Made to order so they were piping hot. Crispy on the outside and veeery juicy on the inside. The one bartender does everything from making drinks to cooking chicken so do be patient. It took around 45 mins for us to get our order but it was very much worth it. Grab one, or two, of their many cheap drinks and then hang while you wait for their amazing fried chicken meals (so cheap too!) We split the Mixed Dark Meat Meal and Onion Rings for $16. The inside is way cozier than you'd think judging from their exterior. Eclectic decorations and lots of fairy lights. Definitely a must try spot in PDX.

Standout dive bar. Longer wait for food but we drank and socialized and chatted with the other bar top patrons. We knew it was going to be a hot minute so made sure to get there early. The chicken and jojos are definitely worth the wait. Service was fantastic, cheaper than if we went out to a sit down establishment but this one unpretentious and welcoming in only what a proper dive bar can do.

Food was just okay! I don't know if it was worth the hype but I appreciated the low cost and solid taste. However, we weren't feeling so hot after we ate it so unsure if it was the food or if it was something else but it wasn't fun. Another thing to note, while it seemed that many other people struggled to get a table or had a long wait, we had no problems on a Tuesday evening around 5pm. The place is small and chicken is made to order so plan accordingly! Service was excellent as well, very friendly and accommodating. Jojos were like a 1/4 of a potato each. You won't leave hungry, that's for sure!

Ask the Community - Reel M Inn

    Available to call in orders?

Yes, I have called in many times. Only problem is they are often busy and overwhelmed so sometimes phone is just not answered. I would not call an order in on a busy Friday or Saturday night

Do you serve chicken all day? For some reason, I thought I heard the first drop is at 5:00. Thanks!

First drop is at 11am, every day

Can I buy just the Jojo's?

Yes it's on the menu as à la cart

Are you open for takeout during this time of Shelter in Place?

I don't believe they are doing take-out. I have tried to call a couple of times and wasn't able to get through to anyone. If you are craving chicken & jojos though you can head over to JOJO food truck, that's what I've been doing since I can't get…

Can you call ahead to place an order to not wait once you are there?

Kinda. Most of the time not really. They're usually too busy to answer the phone. And the business model is partially based on selling you a few drinks while you wait. Plus takeout kinda ruins the chicken by steaming it (don't close the box!)

Just curious if I go there around 10pm, if there's still fried chicken available?

Yes. Fried chicken all night long until they're sold out or closed. Whichever comes first

Hi there, my wife has a gluten allergy, can you tell me if your fried chicken batter is gluten free?

It's a flour based batter, so not gluten free.

Are minors allowed here before a certain time of day/night?

No sorry, it is a 21 and over establishment only.
