While I don't drink coffee, we have stopped by and ordered ice cream from the window and enjoyed their outdoor patio. Their menu has a lot of different options including fun sundaes and different interesting ice cream flavors. The night we stopped by was very busy and the girl was trying her best to keep up. Eventually, someone else that was sitting outside with friends, went inside to help her. The portions are huge and the pricing is competitive. They may have made a mistake but the small sundae my mom ordered, was the same size as my sundae that was twice as expensive but only one size. This place is soooo cute. Tiki theme outside and a spin wheel to win fun prizes for kids. Me being a grown adult I of course still spun and got a glow in the dark bracelet and didn't take it off all night. I got the peanut butter melt with a waffle bowl and it was worth every penny. Once again, we need half stars!!! This also is so much more than a coffee shop. Yes, they have coffee, lattes, and such. I had a peanut butter latte and it was very good. This is more of a specialty shop. They've got TONS of freeze-dried candies. There's popcorn. The coffee they have is good and affordable. They do their own roasting and mix beans to create more affordable blends. Probably the best thing there is the maple syrup. Very clean tasting; not overly thick. The owner, who was great, was telling me his farm for the harvesting of maple syrup is up north, south of Iron Mountain. Sure, go get a coffee or a bag, but more importantly, go buy some maple syrup and some fun things! read more

Recently was out with my daughter to celebrate a milestone of hers. Wanted to go to the "other place" next door, but the line was incredibly long and we were approaching her bedtime. Decided to come here since there wasn't a line and ice cream is ice cream, right? Should have realized the line was a good indication of which was the good place to grab a tasty treat at and what place wasn't. The ice cream was freezer burned which threw off the flavor and texture quite a bit. I've had the brand ice cream they serve before, so it wasn't that. The ambiance wasn't nearly as fun or inviting as the place next door. A lot darker and less inviting and kid friendly. Employees seemed fine, but just bland service overall. Next time, I will gladly wait in line next door and will be skipping this place. I suggest you do the same. read more

First time visit was great! Hubby had the pina colada soft serve -there are 30+ flavors. Soft serve was creamy, not super sweet - the way great ice cream should be. I felt under the weather so I opted for tea- there's a real tea bar which I wasn't expecting to find so close to home. Great outdoor patio area to enjoy ice cream. I was craving strawberry ice cream but they didn't carry it. :(. Got Bear Hug instead and it was a good chocolate fix with crunch from the cashews. My daughter got Super Scoop and it came with cute candy eyes. They also have sundaes, flurries, coffees, paninis, and more. Will probably come when they have music or movies playing outside this summer. read more

Have never been a fan of the bean and per my recent experiences that wont be changing soon. There are so many better coffee and ice cream shops within 50 yards of each location. Jam n' Bean's overpriced menu, underpaid staff, and efforts to pack as many things into the space comes up short on almost all fronts. It's attempts to do a bit of everything, it comes up short, as it really excels at nothing. read more

Their ad states that they use fresh fruit in their smoothies. This is the kind of smoothie I wanted for my grandson. I ordered two small smoothies. What did I get? A frozen syrupy concoction. It was so sweet and sugary! It tastes like they used the syrup from frozen fruit that you buy in the store and whipped it up with ice. They were just awful! It cost me 8.00 for two of them. Overall, I liked this coffee shop! I went on a Friday afternoon around 2pm and was 1 of 3 people there. The shop is cute-- lots of decor around the main room. There were burlap coffee bean bags on the walls as well as artwork and 1 TV in the main room. They do have a smaller room off to the side with 2 tables. They sell loose leaf adiago tea, coffee & tea accessories, and coffee beans that they roast themselves. They have plenty of windows, tables, and a high top bar to sit at.....which has a power strip! The atmosphere was quiet except for the employees talking behind the counter. The barista was very friendly and asked me if it was my first time there. He explained the shop and told me that they serve "Italian-style" espresso drinks. I decided to order a latte even though I'm usually just a plain coffee drinker. The latte had more foam than I expected, but it was thick and good! (It's foam, so I don't know why people expect it to taste like anything.) The barista made a heart-like design in the foam of my latte too. I thought the latte was delicious-- the espresso was thick and very dark. I have had Italian cappuccinos in Europe before, and they were quite similiar. My only problem with the drink was that it wasn't hot enough. They do serve a few food items like bagel sandwiches. I'm giving them 4 stars because the new barista that came on when I left wasn't as friendly as the first, and the employees were quite loud when they were behind the counter. It was also cold in the room! They do give free refills on regular coffee and have a large parking lot in the back. The deck was closed bc it had lots of snow on it, but I'm excited for it to open up in the summer when they are open later. read more

The best part about this place, though, is their huge elevated deck in the back. During the holiday's between this Christmas and New Year's Day I had company stay with me. I ran out of my normal coffee, so I decided to head to the local Coffee place Jam N Bean to use a coupon from the Key Card book for a free bag of coffee beans. I stopped in and asked which would be best suited for certain taste. I was directed to the 123 brew. I took the coupon and gave it to the cashier and she told me that they were not accepting the coupon any more due to the roaster being relocated. Coupon still had a few days until it expired and was good for 1 year ending on 12/30/15 I wasn't sure what this had to do with anything. So I walked out upset and went to the grocery store to get my coffee. I have been into Jam N' Bean in the past for cups of coffee, I will not be returning due to this situation. read more

The Ice Cream/smoothies are great and the baristas are always welcoming, but I've heard many terrible things from former employees about Jam'n bean's management. All three locations can't seem to keep staff members for more than 5 months (excluding ice cream staff, which is mostly high school students), and that says something about the employer. On top of that they always seem to run out of produce. For the future, I would recommend the owners really take a look at their turnover rate a little more closely, because for a small coffee shop, they have a turnover rate equal to a big box retail chain. read more

Great place for ice cream or a good cup of Joe. They really have a lot of fun things about it - the deck is great - they were getting ready to have a movie after we left. I know they also have ice skating in the winter. They really make it a fun place to visit...if you are a coffee fan you will love their fresh roasted beans....they roast them on site. Great coffee and ice cream! My sis who lives in London is a complete coffee snob. She said this was the best coffee she has had in GR. Personally, I think they do a better job in Ada than Cascade. The barista just seemed a bit new at Cascade location. The ice cream is from Guernseys in Novi, and it is fantastic. Be sure to hit their happy hour for a great deal! read more

My review is specifically for the espresso bar component and general ambiance, as I haven't personally had the regular coffee or food yet (though I intend to!). Olja (the espresso barista) is a true professional. She roasts and blends her espresso herself and makes truly perfect drinks that easily stand up to the best coffees I have had in Chicago, Boston, Italy and Europe in general. I have had three different drinks and all were really excellent, and she is also a joy to talk to while she is making your drink. The ambiance in the cafe is very nice and relaxed - light music and cool decor and also a great selection of delicious loose-leaf teas. In other words an extremely rare and welcome addition to the neighborhood. I haven't found this quality of coffee or tea anywhere in the area. Apparently they also have a cool deck with concerts and light shows which I hope to see soon. Check it out! read more

The new Jam 'N Bean is new performing arts venue as well as a coffeehouse. The coffee bar features the usual java faire, as well as great paninis, pastry, and other treats. They roast their own beans in a cute coffee roasting machine right in front of you. The owners have done a very nice job of renovating this historic building, and it's a labor of love which wouldn't be replicated by the big franchises. In addition to the charming coffee house, they've built an ambitious live music stage in the woods behind the building with seating for 300. I applaud the initiative of the owners, and look forward to great music and great refreshments all summer long. read more
