I didn't feel like it was too much but it was conveniently a short walk to the venue. Getting inside was easy and wasn't packed to go through security. They had merch and a bar near the entrance. Then theres a map with how to get to your seats. I was tripped out because I thought I bought the wrong seats for us because it was two even number seats that were separated. It was 2 and 4 and I was like okay my girlfriend and I splitting up and vibing separately but that's just how they do their seats. I bought the correct seats after all. Super cool to experience Royel Otis perform near the upper seats too. Would 100% come back, just would come earlier. Also, thank you to the guy who was behind me that had the most high pitch whistle, my ears didn't hurt from the concert but from your unnecessary screeching whistles!

it was my first time visiting the greek theatre for the wave to earth concert, and i was pleasantly…read moresurprised by the size and capacity of it. we parked at the lot by griffith park and took the shuttle to the venue, which was super easy and quick. we paid $10/person to take the shuttle and park. it was about a 10 minute drive to the venue. the staff were all super helpful and kind. we arrived about an hour and a half before the concert started, and the line was so long! but, the line moved quickly thankfully. once we entered the venue, there were lines everywhere for 2 merch stands and a VIP line (i'm assuming?). it took about 15 minutes to get to the front of the merch line. we sat in section C, left rear, row P, seats 21 and 23. the view wasn't bad - but it did feel a bit far from the artist. the atmosphere of the venue made up for it, so it made up for it! getting out of the venue was another issue, however, because the shuttles got stuck in all the Los Feliz Blvd traffic. after waiting 20 minutes without moving in the shuttle line, we ended up walking over 45 minutes and 1.5 miles back to the parking lot!!! it didn't help that we were walking in 100 degree weather late at night either. luckily, other groups of concert-goers thought the same idea, and we all walked back to the parking together. overall, great concert venue but not very efficient getting out of the parking lot.

I can tell he truly loves what he does because he genuinely laughs at every scene. Through this class, I also learned many life lessons: everyone is faking it till they make it, always ask more questions, embrace the silliness and absurdity of life, never stop playing, and just show up. The "Cinderella" of venues, it takes the grand, outdoor setting of the Bowl (concrete Jerusalem gates carved into the Hollywood hills) and the intimacy of a backyard party. With 1200 seats (opposed to 17500), you're always under 100 feet from the stage. The seats being steeply raked means you are closer to the stage than the Greek. (The Theater, I mean, not loud, hairy Niko guy next to you). And being tucked into a natural canyon makes the acoustics extra crispy, which made Erasure (10 years ago today) one of my favorite concerts. Side note: I found the 3 tickets on ebay for 99 cents, something that pissed off the guy next to me who paid $200. He Loved to Hate Me. He called me "Biggie Fries" all night, referencing Wendy's Value Meal. Built in 1920 by Christine Wetherill Stevenson, a wealthy heiress who wanted to build a space for her play about he life of Christ "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Calvary". No, it was "Pilgrimage Play" It burnt down in 1929 but rebuilt in 1931 to look like stone, making it feel like an ancient, rediscovered space. Anyway, it only hosted Christ plays (I would have called it "Nailed iT!") until the 1964 separation of church and state opened the venue to all arts. It was named after the county supervisor John Anson Ford, who was a champion of the arts. In the late 80's it was the "West Coast CBGB", hosting Ramones, Social D, X, Chili Peppers and Jane's Addiction. If you need more bands, just use your first three Wordle guesses: Tacos Marry Happy opened for Radio Caulk Barfy. It unveiled a $80 million renovation in 2017, so if it was gorgeous in 2006, I am sure it is Gorgeouser now. In 2019, the LA Phil took over, so now it is the little sister of the Bowl and Disney Concert Hall. In 2020, it had its centennial, marking 100 years since Stevenson first staged a Christ play in that canyon. To celebrate, the partygoers turned wine into pee.

I hear such great things about Pantages but I just came back from a showing of Beauty and the Beast…read morethat was extremely disappointing. The Broadway cast and crew were amazing, mad props to them, but my grievances lie with the theater staff due to poor handling of an unruly couple (8/26 Row SS, seats 110 and 111) that disrupted my entire show. From the beginning, they were talking loudly and singing along with the musical actors. We kept trying to tell them to stop but they continued. At some point they had their phone flashlight on and was looking for something while the show was still going (the flashlight is especially bright and distracting when everything else is dark and moody). They just repeatedly and blatantly ignored basic theater etiquette. These were not isolated incidents--they were persistent and disruptive enough to significantly interfere with the experience of the people sitting around them (at least 3 rows--their row, the row behind them, and the row in front of them). The entire first half was so miserable. During intermission, I brought the situation to the crew's attention and was told that someone would speak with them. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. I also found out during intermission from other people filing complaints with the crew that they were also texting the whole time and were disturbing the people sitting behind them (on top of being loud and obnoxious already). We did have 2 people give relatively weak (not firm at all) reminders of "no phone use, no talking, no singing along during the show" during intermission after the complaints but the couple was not present during those spiels. The couple then returned late from intermission and proceeded to interrupt the beginning of the second half... and then their disruptive behavior continued. During the second half, our area collectively decided to stop being polite about our grievances and started to intervene during the performance--telling them to be quiet, stop singing, and put their phone away while the show was going on. They didn't take the criticism well and started getting defensive. Why should paying guests have to police other audience members and, in doing so, further disrupt their own experience? For me what was particularly frustrating was the apparent lack of response from the theater after the issue had already been reported. It's just such a clear disruption of theater rules and common courtesy. Plus, other people are also complaining about the same two people. There should be a clear process for addressing the behavior, including asking them to leave. I see on the Pantages website that people can be escorted out... and I just can't believe that these people had no consequence whatsoever. 3 rows had a ruined experience because of them. I understand we can't predict who's walking through the door, considerate or rude or educated or not, but there has to be a protocol for the staff for when things like this happen. We the audience don't have power to kick them out (and wish we did) but the theater has, and the theater failed us. I just wish the staff will take complaints seriously and protect the experience of the rest of the audience. Moving forward, maybe have someone with a microphone announce ground rules, once at the beginning and another before intermission ends. In fact, I can't even imagine how much more disappointed I would be if it was any musical other than Beauty and the Beast. This one I know the Disney storyline and most of the songs so even with the 300 distractions I could follow along. The same cannot be said for other Broadway musicals. I would be so lost, so confused, and probably even more frustrated than I am now. I paid to see the performance, and instead I spent a significant portion of it distracted and frustrated. The lackluster response from the theater made an already frustrating situation even worse.

Once I was healed, I registered for a class, and the class was where I learned the hard way this isn't something I can do. I have a learning disability (diagnosed when I was young) and between that and some OCD, when I went to class I was focusing as much as I could on everything the man teaching it had to say, but because of my issues and trying to keep up with it I eventually started feeling light headed and dizzy, which can happen to me in circumstances like this. I did the best I could to absorb as much info as I could but it moved too fast for me to, and consequentially I flubbed the proceeding group exercises badly and it was clear the rest of the class was on the same page and because of my issues I was not and I could bring them down a bit. So I knew pretty quickly that this wasn't a good idea and I wouldn't be able to fully excel in it, and then I emailed the admin email for UCB explaining this and seeing about a possible partial refund and they left it on read without responding which means they'll keep my $525 because they can. I already know what their first response to this will be- that terms were made clear in the beginning there are no refunds so I admit that I am acting like I should be an exception here (maybe, maybe not) but I just want this to reach some people thinking of enrolling to know that if things don't work out for some reason, you will indeed walk away without getting your money back so keep that in mind.

I don't live too far away from here but it's always a trek coming down to downtown LA. And the tickets I received is said to park in the music center garage. Parking was $10 and really efficient. It took a while to get our bearings to find out where we could park and what was available. And at the very end, it was actually pretty efficient to get out of there as well. We're on level P6 and we were directed to go down towards the lower level and everything was very efficient to then come back up to the surface.. It's a beautiful venue. It's not huge, but they're able to make great use of the space. We sat in the balcony and got a great view and we were able to see everything fairly well. There are lots of concession stands throughout and you're even able to pre-order drinks and snacks and beverages for the intermission. Overall, it's a great venue, it's even closer to me than the Pantages, where they have a lot of other musicals as well. We caught a great show here too. This is definitely a hidden gem that I'll be excited to come back to again in the future when there are future events. Everything is so well organized and it was a great experience.

Unfortunately, this production didn't connect with me. The cast clearly had potential, but I never felt the actors were fully connected to the text or to one another. Many of the performances felt more like reciting the lines than living them. There was also a great deal of yelling throughout the production, with very little variation in pacing or emotional intensity. Because there were so few quiet moments or pauses, the dramatic scenes lost their impact. I found myself wishing for more restraint and nuance, allowing the language and relationships to carry the emotion. I've seen other outdoor Shakespeare productions, including Shakespeare by the Sea in Lake Tahoe, where the performances felt grounded, emotionally truthful, and deeply engaging. That experience showed me that Shakespeare doesn't need to be loud to be powerful. I hope Independent Shakespeare Co. continues taking on ambitious works like this, and I look forward to seeing future productions. I believe this cast had the talent to create something memorable with more nuanced direction.

Shakespeare in the park is completely free but they do ask for a donation. And considering the enjoyment of watching this troupe it is worth it. They are located by the old zoo and it's a little bit of a climb or use of stairs, but doable. You can bring food and do a picnic. The Comedy of Errors is going on through September 6th. The show starts at 7pm but get there early to get a good spot.
