My wife, daughter, and I recently went to the Ahmanson Theatre to watch the play Kim's Convenience. It was our first time visiting this theater, and we had a fantastic experience! It's conveniently located near the freeway, parking was easy, and the venue is very clean. The theater has a classic, elegant charm to it, and the facilities are great. The play itself was wonderful with a brilliant script and incredible acting. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would love to return for future shows!

Ahmanson Theatre really impressed me. I didn't know what to think as I have never been and it was great. I sat at Orchestra Rear, Row R, Seat 1. It was a great seat for me as I was able to see the stage. The way that the theater was set up, it was designed for all to see. I would like to try the upper level to see if that's a better angle. But for my $40 that I spent, I was VERY happy for the price and the seats. I picked up my ticket from Will Call, it was an easy pickup. The parking is at the Music Center entrance for $10 and you take the escalators upstairs to the theater which was nice and convenient. There's beverages, sandwiches and snacks to purchase as well. I went to watch Kim's Convenience and I was also lucky that they had the cast speaking at the end of the play so that was still well worth the money. I would definitely come back and enjoy the theater.

Watch Kim's Convenience at the Ahmanson. Seated at the first row in Mezzanine. Great spot to watch the funny and endearing play. Only bad thing is that the woman behind me was reacting loudly. The play was well written and well acted. The only scene that was not well situated was the church scene. They could have brought down a backdrop or curtain and then project the stained glass windows. The store is still prominent even if it was dimmed.

I had a great experience watching Mamma Mia Live here at Ahmanson Theatre! This was my first time ever seeing a live musical and it was amazing. The acoustics & sound were great & the theatre is small but provides a very intimate vibe for the audience & makes it easy for everyone to see even in the further back seats. I was dropped off so I sadly don't have any details on the parking situation. They sell small snacks & sweets to enjoy but be warned they are pretty pricy!

Fun play last night watching Paranormal Activity. This is a beautiful theater that doesn't have a bad seating in the house. The sound system is great. The staff on hand have all been pleasant. Theater is clean. They dont have a strict policy on strong or if the venue during intermission. Parking is $10.

Haven't been here in over ten years. Returned recently to watch "Paranormal Activity- Live on Stage". Parked under the theater for $10 (not bad considering it's DTLA) and it was very convenient as we took a couple of escalators to reach street level. The area was abuzz as it was opening night, so expectations (for the performance) were high. We decided to make our way in...as the staff scanned our digital tickets, we were ushered to the side and were handed a hand-written seat replacement ticket. For some reason, they decided to move us from the aisle seats to middle seats (same row), which provided a much better view. The lovely staff person explained that they did some last-minute changes and felt that our original seats were not up-to-par. What an unexpected and welcome surprise. The theater itself is an LA staple, especially because it's part of the Music Center complex. Although the interior is not lavish or flashy, it delivers a great experience. Seats are comfortable...and enough space provided in between rows to allow most patrons to pass without any issues. It was easy to exit the theater itself as well as the parking area. A great theater-going experience!

Incredible seats for the opera! Falstaff!

Once upon a time, it just doesn't get better than this! Wonderful orchestra, opera singers at their best, and a riveted audience. A lovely evening spent. The end.

    Can't wait! Paranormal Activity!

We attended last night for their Paranormal Activity play and it was amazing! The venue is grand from the outside in! From the outside atmosphere & decor down to the food and drink carts serving casual food and wine and cocktails, it was all awesome! The line seemed pretty long in the front area and we had 20 minutes to go before play started but it moved very rapidly and we got to our seats with plenty of time. Truly a magical night!

Ahmanson theatre is located in downtown Los Angeles. I have actually never been here before as I am an OC girly but one of my girlfriends wanted to see "& Juliet" for her birthday so made my way to LA. I recommend allotting plenty of time prior for parking as the structures do get back logged quite a bit! The two nearby parking structures were charging $10 flat fee. Cash will be your best bet but they do take card. Otherwise the theatre itself is a decent size. The only true complaint is the stairs leading up to the higher levels felt tight and congested. Otherwise manageable. We were also seated in row A in the mezzanine and the restroom was inconveniently on the other end so it felt like a mission to get to the restroom. The view from row A in the mezzanine was solid and audio was excellent as well.

We attended a showing of Paranormal Activity here this afternoon and had an excellent time. We parked in the theater's parking garage which is located under the theater. Parking was $10 dollars and could be paid by cash or credit card, though the cash only lane was moving much faster. Getting from the garage up to the theater was easy with escalators going up to plaza level. The theater itself is sleek and modern with a large lobby and multiple concession stands spaced throughout. I particularly like how the theater makes use of the plaza space outside as an outer lobby of sorts. Inside the theater is spacious with modestly sized seats. We were seating near the rear of mezzanine and had a clear view of the stage. I've attended multiple productions here and while some seats are a bit far from the stage, there are really very few truly "bad" seats which is refreshing. Overall, this venue is one of my favorites for live theater in LA.

Soyrizo & Veggie, Achiote-Marinated Chicken, & Barbacoa Taco Sampler from #MasTaco, the stand next to the Ahmanson
    Mojo S.

I couldn't find a listing for the food stand so this will have to do. The taco sampler was revelatory. I always thought the food around the Center Theatre Group of buildings wasn't very appetizing and supremely over-priced. But the tacos at this stand were in line with the value of other more high-end taco joints. All three of them were a hit, but especially the Barbacoa. That was a beast of flavor and tenderness. All the staff was nice, even if I had only planned to get two of the tacos. Such miscommunication is excusable when you're outside and dealing with the ambient noise of traffic and crowds. The tables nearby were perfect places to take in all the taco magnificence and I found myself pleasantly surprised they actually had decent food before the show.

COVID-19: Social distancing is not enforced at this establishment. Some of the staff in the theater wears a mask. All customers are not expected to wear a mask. It's optional now. There are no hand sanitizers available for customers to use. They are not sanitizing in between guests. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was here in this establishment several days ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is located in the Music Center Garage. Please enter the parking structure via Grand Ave. It's a $10 flat fee. Self-parking in The Music Center Main Garage is $10 (starting at 4:30pm, two hours prior to matinee performances and all-day on weekends. At all other times, you will pay the non-event rate of $3.50 for every 15 minutes, with a $20 maximum). Please expect to pay cash when you arrive. Have your $10 cash ready. The reason why there is a long line to get into the parking structure is because people aren't ready to pay, so it takes fricken FOREVER to enter the parking structure. Elevators are located under the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on the Grand Ave side of the plaza. Theater & Staff: The theater itself is so spacious, clean, neat, and tidy. Women's bathroom are downstairs, upstairs, and located to the left on the main floor. Men's bathroom are also downstairs, upstairs, and located to the right on the main floor. The staff here are very friendly, helpful, and friendly. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum.

& Juliet from Mezzanine Row E Seat 14
    Candace C.

I've been to the Ahmanson Theatre a few times, most recently to see & Juliet! The theatre overall is great. The sound is good and there really isn't a bad view in the house. It's easy to get in and get to your seats. The whole space including the bathrooms is clean. My only callout is that the balcony feels really steep to me. I was there for The Lehman Trilogy a few years ago, and at intermission I actually had to ask someone if I could be moved anywhere on a lower level. They were able to move me and my group of 4 to the back of the mezzanine. The overhang was not an issue at all. For & Juliet, I was in mezzanine row E seat 14, which is a little off center, but not all the way at the end. It was great! No obstructions at all. The service is wonderful. There are people stationed at every reasonable location to point you in the right direction. Getting in is really efficient. Parking is available for $10 cash underneath in the Music Center Garage. The information is clearly outlined on their website. It can take a little time to park and get up to the theatre, so I would allot at least 15 minutes for this process. I purchased the & Juliet tickets through Center Theatre Group's group ticketing service. The process was super customer friendly. You get to pick your seats, pay a 10% deposit within the month of your order, and then pay the full amount by a month before the show date. The prices were great and did not include the fees - just 1 $25 handling fee for the whole group of 14. Tickets can be delivered digitally or you can choose to pick up at will call. I picked up at will call - super easy, just showed them my ID. There was a step and repeat backdrop outside and a neon light of the show logo for people to take photos. There was a merch table upon entry, and a few refreshment stands. There are a couple but not a lot of food options within a reasonable walking distance, but we saw a lot of people that brought their own spreads and sat at the tables outside the theatre. Kind of like the Hollywood Bowl! I enjoy seeing shows at the Ahmanson and will happily go anytime there's something I want to see there!

Ask the Community - Ahmanson Theatre

How is the view from the mezzanine?

In my opinion, I didn't like the view from this section. I would have preferred to have been closer to the stage to actually see the faces of the performers.

How's the view from the front half of the orchestra? Do the heads of those in front of you block the view or is there a decent incline?

Do I really have to print out my e-ticket or can they scan it on my phone?

    They can scan your phone

How wide are the seats and is there enough leg room to stretch. I'm really tall and overweight?

Not really but seats that r real chairs might be better. On second floor

What cheeses are in the cheese plate (sold w/ nuts, crackers, grapes, dried fruit) at the little bar inside the theater? They were delish!

Manchengo, blue cheese were two of them and I don't remember what else but you're right it's a delicious cheese plate. If you have a picture I could probably tell you what the other cheese is

We want to eat dinner close to the theater before our show. What restaurants are walking distance so we do not need to park 2 times?

Kendall's is on the ground floor of the Music Center and there is a new-Mexican place Cocina Roja that just opened that is a bit more like a fast food place up on the main level. The Walt Disney Music Hall has a cafeteria style place but it only…

Does anyone know if parking garage is cash only or do they accept credit cards?

Yes, the parking garage accepts both cash and all major credit cards.

What is the standard level of dress for a play here, California casual?

FOR Matinee, Men- nice jeans/ chino & pullover shirt or button down. Ladies- nice jeans, slacks, dress or skirts…

Are there elevators available? I would like to take my mom to a show and she uses a cane. Stairs can be problematic for her. I will most likely get mezzanine tickets. Orchestra tickets if possible. Thank you in advance.

Hello. I don't recall elevators at the Ahmanson Theatre. However, I believe there are ramp paths inside. Just to be safe, please give the theatre a call. I'd hate for your mom to struggle which would then ruin the entire evening.

I came here with friends to watch Rayuela Hacia EL Mas Alla. It was all in Spanish, but for those like me that only have 2 years of high school Spanish, there were subtitles projected on the top of the stage. The play was a dark comedy with a little bit of everything. It had humor, drama, terror, a love story and a "non-hollywood ending." Going in with an open mind and not knowing what the play was about, I was blown away. Parts of the play made me think of Guillermo Del Toros Pans Labyrinth and Kurt Vonnegut from my AP English class in high school. With its morbid beauty and dystopian setting. It amazed me how such a large story could be played out on such a small stage with just a few actors through the use of lighting, minimal props, and and the expression of those actors. Kudos to Laura Santa Cruz and Manuel Chitay for a wonderful performance. It was very creative how they used the same projector to animate the clocks and show the passage of time. As well as (not to give anything away) execute certain scenes. This play is very unique in the sense that every few weeks they change the ending and have a different actress. Which not only brings a different take on the story but keeps you coming back for more.

If you don't, you will stick out like a very sore and ugly thumb. If you do dress up, costume weapons must be sheathed and peace tied. Also, wear comfy shoes. There is soooooo much walking. It's also hella dusty at this event, which is lowkey on point with ye - old England. To add on, when Justin and I attended this event in mid May, the weather was soooo on point because it was gloomy and overcast. This is exactly how I imagined old timey England during the renaissance. You can absolutely bring food and drinks into the event, but they cannot be picnic food, food that requires heating or refrigeration, alcohol, anything in glass containers, and coolers. You can bring water, but it cannot be opened yet. Or you can bring an empty reusable water bottle for it to be filled up at the event. There are plenty of bathrooms (porta potties and hand washing stations) at this event. Note: While at the event, we didn't see any refillable water bottle stations. Where were they hiding? Food: My bestie and I got the tri tip sandwich and french fries. Honestly, coming into this event, I already knew that the food was gonna be mid. Lmao I had low expectations for the food because I wasn't really there for the food. Plus, I guess this was also kinda lowkey on point with the renaissance era in England because food in that time period was also mid. Lol I was primarily there for the medieval vibes and jousting, which delivered in spades. I would honestly go every year just for the medieval vibes and jousting. Screw the food there. Anyways, the tri tip sandwich was overly priced with a meager amount of meat in the sandwich in a sad ass hot dog bun. It was more of a sad- wich. This is why I removed one star. Flavor wise, it was okay. My friend knows that I'm not the biggest fan of anything BBQ, but I'll eat it anyways. The fries that we got were plentiful for the price point and it was very crunchy. I was disappointed when it wasn't really salted, which made it taste bland TBH. I should also note that the tri tip sandwich and fries were cold by the time we sat down and ate them because we spent like 10 - 15 minutes walking around and finding a place to eat. Don't be like us. Eat your food while it's hot. Staff: The staff here are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum. Still, cash is king at this event. Many vendors only take cash, so bring at least $100 per person.

One of my favorite places to go! Came on a day where the weather was nice and got a good spot for…read moreall the shows. The event is rain or shine, so bring sunscreen and umbrellas. The only thing I wish would improve is bringing back more craftsmen. A lot of jewelry vendors do drop shipping now, so if you're looking for one of a kind or good jewelry, you have to watch out and be careful.
