The office staff is friendly and helpful. Check in only took a few minutes, went smoothly and she explained why she needed the requested documents. Dr. Wentz's assistant, Lindsay, is very personable, does a thorough job and provides a calming, structured atmosphere. Dr. Wentz's took the time to review my past and present medical history. He explained the test results I had just completed and answered all my questions. He had a good side bed manner and I never felt rushed. My pledge to commit to that philosophy is even more serious in the instance when I received my first exam from the optical professionals at Whitson Vision, with locations on East 86th Street in Indianapolis and at IU West Hospital in Avon (in addition to surgical facilities at 9002 N. Meridian Street in Indy). I recently completed my first appointment with Dr. Doore, an Optometrist who, along with several others, ran a series of tests to ensure that my Type 2 Diabetes was not causing any severe issues with my sight. Each and every individual displayed the finest measure of kindness, compassion and a commitment to concise and easily understandable, plain English doctor-patient communication. This was not my first experience with the Whitson Workforce! My domestic partner has experienced a decades- long case of chronic glaucoma and has benefitted from Dr. Whitson's direct surgical expertise, including two significant procedures that seem to have turned out...well, to be succinct, brilliant! Doctors and patients seem unanimous in their opinions that Dr. Whitson is the "go-to" opthalmologist when no one else can fix a difficult eye problem. This is a full service opthalmology clinic, not a typical mall optometrist. They do cataract,…read moreglaucoma, and other Lasik/laser treatments, and have surgeons on staff, meaning MDs as opposed to doctors of optometry-- not that optometrists are bad, rather, it's a different skill set. It's a full-service sort of place, and although their personability is sometimes abrupt, it's my estimation they know their discipline. The Abrams Eye Centers have different staff, but they rely on other locations for specialties in my experience. I've been pleased with their work. My four star rating is because I don't have the comparison values to know if it's really five stars. That may sound wishy-washy, but rating clinics is difficult. I get the sense that their staff has high professionalism, and have a great deal of experience, and that's comforting.

Once qualifying, everyone in the office was hopeful with scheduling appointment for the actual surgery. They were offering a discount if you booked for the month of December, however, I was planning to be on vacation. I asked them if I pre-paid in December and scheduled for January if I could still get the discount-- which I could. They allow you to pre-pay, have payment plans, and/or can use your HSA. The procedure itself only took about 10 minutes. I have 3 great friends that have received Lasik surgery within the last 2 years-- everything they described was exactly how it went. They definitely relieved a lot of the stress that I had going into it, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't still nervous. The doctor and the techs were so kind and reassuring that I was doing a good job while the procedure was going on. Once the procedure was done, I was able to leave with sunglasses that I was advised to keep on for the first full day. Around the clock eyedrops are required for the first week and then drop to four times a day for the month. The doctor that did my LASIK called the next day to ensure I was doing OK and if I had any questions. I thought that was very nice bedside manner, and some thing that really stuck out to me. I came the next monday for my follow up appointment and everything went well. Currently seeing 20/15 vision. All of my friends that I knew that got Lasik all said the same thing - - that they wish they got it sooner. Now I can actually understand what they mean.
