SSAS is one of the few acting studios that focuses on comedic acting for tv or film. In the sitcom classes, they film you and analyze your performance, and the teachers here are true experts in acting and understanding character. I took the 1day comedy intensive with Scott and Tony, and I later took the sitcom class with Tony. I learned so much about the craft of acting in only a few weeks, and in particular, I learned how to audition, which was something that scared me more than acting itself. Besides the high quality and specialization of the classes, the school is organized by office manager Erin who is efficient and prompt with responding. The first time I came to the studio to take audition technique classes Scott Sedita was as I remember him from the cover of his book. And it clicked I said to myself "Of my God, I know this guy, I read his book (partially, because my roomate gave me to read it a little and he moved out after a few days and that was that, although I bought plenty of books about acting and that book was in the mix, never got around to reading it)". Scott made a joke and I genuinely laughed. I remember feeling good, feeling as if I was home. I thought "this is way different than other studios I've been to". I came back home and looked for the book and I read it for a few days (slow reader, huh?), crying from time to time and laughing. I took 3 months of audition technique with Scott and Deborah (Deborah Quale is the nicest woman, I love her so much, also she's a great teacher) and after, at the end there was an evaluation. I could feel I've changed, it was a weird feeling, but I needed to know which way and what has changed. A few months later I realized that I've become more open, more confident, and most of all I've grown as an actor. Taking a break from acting - and a longer one due to financial reasons - I realized that I'm addicted to acting (thank God it's acting, right?), I started making YouTube videos but that wasn't enough. I had to come back, I did and I'm so happy that I did, and now I'm in Scott's Professional Class (online Zoom, because of the pandemic) and rocking it every week. I'm so happy that I can break down the script, do imagination work, rehearse, work with my classmates to tape and come to class watch the self tapes, get critiqued, learn, perform live in class, it's just absolute bliss. This past year when I moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career I signed up for the one day comedy intensive they offered and thoroughly enjoyed it. In a city saturated with acting coaches, I feel very fortunate to have found Scott Sedita and to be one of his students. I came to Scott Sedita's on a recommendation from my previous acting teacher in Australia who said that comedy would help with my acting. It's been almost a year now since I started attending the studio and I can already feel the tremendous growth I've experienced. I started out taking the One Day Comedy Intensive which uses Scott's book, "The Eight Characters of Comedy." Many others have noted that even if you don't take the classes, reading the book alone is quite valuable which I completely agree with. The first part of the book focuses on the sitcom joke structure and what makes them funny, as well as establishing the importance of rhythm in sitcom scripts and the tools you can play with to bring out those laughs. The second part delves into the eight titular characters and is useful for both actors and writers. Although the whole book is interesting, reading about the eight characters was so captivating, it made me start analyzing what kind of characters my friends and family are! The One Day Comedy Intensive takes the lessons you learned and puts them into practice. A few scripts are also worked on that give you a tease of what it's like in the Sitcom Acting Technique class with Tony Rago (which I understand you get to attend one free class now that classes are on Zoom). Overall, I found the intensive to be very eye opening and a great learning opportunity. I started taking the Sitcom Acting Technique class just as the quarantine started so my experience has been purely online. At first I was concerned that I wouldn't be learning as much but I was glad to be wrong. Tony has been a great teacher not just from an acting perspective but also teaching us how to adapt to the new virtual paradigm in the acting industry of self-tapes and Zoom auditions. It can feel awkward acting in front of devices we normally use to video chat with our friends and family but thru the help of the teachers at SSAS, they bring a normalcy to it. As someone who did not grow up around people in the acting industry, Tony has a way of making people feel at ease and helping bring your guard down. The class itself expands more on the eight characters section of the book and every other week is a character study, which were always fun. Even for characters that may not be in someone's wheelhouse, it was a good opportunity to try out those characters. Other weeks were about various other aspects of acting/comedy such as single-cam vs multi-cam, self-taping, romantic comedy, monologues, and cold reading, just to name a few. There really isn't enough I can say about this class so just take it to see for yourself! Currently, I am in the Comedy Master Class taught by Scott himself. Scott takes things to a new level and tightens the screws on the comedic techniques and brings truth to the acting. With his many years of experience and many connections to the industry, there is definitely a lot to learn from him, not only in terms of acting but also in managing yourself and navigating your way through the industry. Scott will tell you how it is but also knows how to motivate his students and remind us not to beat ourselves up. As long as you're someone willing to take the time and energy to invest in yourself, he will invest in you. Through the class, you'll have the chance to meet industry professionals as well, which are great experiences on their own. Although, I've only taken the comedy classes at SSAS, they were great learning opportunities for any actor. I found this studio because I knew working actors who swore by it. I've been studying here since April and really love it. I'm currently in Scott's master comedy class. I highly recommend taking classes if you want to pursue comedy. However, if you can't afford it or you're not in Los Angeles, even just reading his book is incredibly helpful. Scott is very thorough and tells it like it is - which is incredibly refreshing for Los Angeles. Lots of acting teachers and casting directors will sugarcoat things, which doesn't help actors succeed. If you want someone who is going to tell you "good job" no matter what, then this isn't the place for you. I've been going to Scott's class for over five years and it's the best formatted class in LA. I can't stand classes where the first hour is story time. That's called therapy, kid. Scott's class is efficient, informative, and I'm confident it helped me book my first series regular role a few years ago. Scott also has a great eye for an actor's "type" and I've personally seen him suggest a physical change for an actor (new hair, new clothes, get contacts, etc) and then a few months later the actor books something big. Sorry, not feeling it. Tony, as many have mentioned, was great. However, for the 1-day intensive, Scott was narcissistic, loud, clique-ish, & focussed on things that made everyone suck as actors as we all tried to quickly incorporate his buzz words rather than approaching the exercises as real people who happen to have quirks that are representative of the 8 characters of comedy. I felt frustrated & uninspired at the end of the day, rather than happy & excited to want to keep exploring with him. Oddly, however, I had read his book "The Eight Characters of Comedy" prior to taking the intensive (that's what made me want to take it), & I thought it was terrific & still do. Go figure. read more

Last January I walked into Scott Sedita Acting Studios with the intent to take a single six week comedy class. A year and countless class cycles later, I am STILL training here. Oh yeah. They're THAT good. Upon first meeting Scott, he sat me down, asked me what my goals were as an actress, had me prepare a brief scene, then gave me honest feedback on my strengths and weaknesses. First of all: Wow! How 'bout that one on one attention?! Those who have trained in LA know how rare that can be and I was getting it before I'd even signed up for a class! Second of all: He's actually interested in seeing me grow as an actress, not just my ability to pay for the course?! SOLD! I immediately signed up for his audition technique class, the place he felt I would benefit most. One wonderful year later, I am happy to report that my instincts did not steer me wrong! His book has already given me incredible insight into the world of comedy, but actually sitting in front of him, watching him work, and being a part of the scenes ... brilliant. Scott is brilliant ... and you GET it. nothing he says doesn't stick or goes over your head. he makes brilliant sense. Leaving Scott's class I felt, stronger, confident, and infinitely more aware of who i was as a character. Love. love. LOVE!!! and now that i've become a full blown student, i can continue on my rant of awesome-ness for the one and only Scott Sedita. my confidence level has soared, my comedic timing is starting to make even my most crabbiest of friends laugh, and his critiques are helping me fine tune my characters to really get into the heart of their wants. finding out who you are and what you do best in scott's specialty. if you need a push in the right direction with a gifted teacher/guru as bree has stated above, then you have come to the right place. scott is by far, the best acting coach i've ever studied with ... and i hope to have him in my life for years to come. and mr. tony rago .. also gets the 2 thumbs up on this too. having not been in his solo class, as of yet, i can still say .. the man brings the funny and he and scott work together as an EXCELLENT team of .. awesome-ness :) cheers to you both. read more

I started my journey at SSAS in the beginning of 2017. A casting director friend of mine highly recommended Scott Sedita so I had to hear what all the hubbub was about! I had theatre training and had taken quite a bit of work shops but didn't have a designated "gym" for working out as an actor. After signing up for the One-Day Comedy Intensive, I was immediately hooked. For 2+ years, I have not stopped training at SSAS. I have been in many different classes from Audition Technique Class to the Professional Class, which I'm currently enrolled. I have grown and continue to grow as an actor and I owe a huge thanks to Erin, Tony, Deb and the master himself, Scott Sedita. I also want to acknowledge the students that attend SSAS. Scott Sedita Acting Studios is a great place to learn. I first came here as an improviser who needed to refine his acting skills. Luckily, a Sitcom Class is what SSAS had, which was perfect for what I needed. You start with the one day intensive for them to figure out who you are and where you're at. In my case, after that, I started with Tony Rago's class and eventually 'graduated' and moved into the class with both Tony and Scott. At the time of writing this review, I believe they are changing how the scheduling of this class works, so I will not delve too much into that. Anywho, When you get both teachers, Tony and Scott, giving you feedback, their checks and balances work very well in tandem. Scott is very business minded complemented with the viewpoint of a director. This gives you a good insight on what kinds of things to expect from what a director might say to you on a shoot. Tony has more of and actors mind and can communicate things to you using analogies and helpful "as ifs" that can really get you into the moment of who you might be portraying. When you do a scene it is on camera, so you get feedback right then and there as you are doing it, then at the end of the class when watching all the shots together. Everyone I have met here are good people, made lots of friends. They have several opportunities for showcases and 'auditions' with casting directors and the like. All in all, good times. In a city filled with acting classes, there's only one I can truly say in my 20+ years of studying is worthy of five-stars. Patrick Munoz' "Nuts And Bolts" class at Scott Sedita Acting Studios is beyond the best! Utilizing the studio's famed WOFRAIM technique, Patrick helps you discover an authentic portrayal of every character. The time flies by and I'm never bored because every week the exercises and scenes are different with multiple ops to go up and perform on camera. While it's described as a newbie class, there's so much to learn for even the most experienced working actor--thanks to Patrick's keen eye for attention to detail. He nurtures and encourages growth at every level. I had had my fill of pompous coaches. Patrick keeps it real and practical.
