This has been a staple of Johnstown for as long as I was a kid in the 70's Scott the owner is there everyday welcoming you and especially out of towners ! My son plays hockey for Johnstown and he always welcomes all the boys and family's and he's at all of our games! Cheering us on! His food is amazing !!the staples is his soft shell tacos ! It's almost a religion in Johnstown but you better be hungry ! The small is a folded 8 inch pizza shell that's the small the larger is a 12 inch folded pizza soft shell taco is seriously bigger than a human head! And the prices you won't find great food at any price like Scott's !! You will definitely need a knap after your meal ! When you walk in you see the history of Johnstown and especially hockey in our town! And occasionally you might even see some of the actors of the movie slap shot come in and eat like the Hanson brothers! And if your lucky Scott will tell you some of his awesome stories of all the years of hockey and rock stars and celebrity's coming in including Tom cruise ( all the right moves) Leah Thomson ( all the right moves ) Paul Newman ( slap shot) countless WWE wrestling superstars! Great local bar atmosphere if you're in town to catch a hockey game. We came to see the descendants of the Charlestown Chiefs play and found ourselves at home at Scott's. Scott himself was there and welcomed us. We shared the small but cozy establishment with other hockey fans, locals and visitors alike. The Tomahawks soon joined us and the place was packed. Walked in to the bar and it was crowded. Went to the only two bar stools opened and a customer told me I couldn't sit there. The entire bar was watching some minor league hockey and this customer didn't want anyone sitting in front of her. Nobody from the bar management team made an effort to accommodate the two of us. On my way out there was some chuckling and smart ass comments. I've been here three times and found the food good and the service reasonable. After this visit, I will never return. Went down the street to Franklin street bar where the food and the service was much more accommodating. read more

Would give this place a zero rating if I could. Bartender was not friendly. Got the feeling that I was sitting in one of the regulars' favorite seats, and that I was "lucky" that they let me sit there. An obnoxious patron decided what all patrons would watch on television. I've been going to Scott's for years and never miss it when in Johnstown. They have a great selection of food and beverages. Prices are very good. I absolutely love their tacos. I have been coming to Scott's for years. Scott is one of the nicest guys around. The first time I went in, he talked to my husband and I for about 20 minutes. We live in Harrisburg, but I have family in Johnstown, so I go out there pretty often. The bar is small and not good for large groups. The setting is very low key-- Football and hockey signs and pennants line the walls. The bar area is well-stocked for a small place. The prices are fantastic!!! The tacos are delicious here! They are on a thick, soft shell. The meat is seasoned very well and it comes with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and two hot sauces. It gets super busy when there's a game or show at the war memorial. It's right across the street from the memorial, so people flock here. his is a great place to chill and have some drinks and good food. read more

This place is pretty small and cozy--maybe four tables, and about eight seats at the bar. They had the usual stuff on tap, and then--gratefully and inexplicably--Honkers Ale by Goose Island. We got an order of wings as an app, and a burger and taco. After seeing photos, the lady made sure to order a small. When the thing came out, it was as big as what we expected the large to be. So yes, they're huge. And it's more like a large, folded quesadilla than taco, but no complaints here--doughy, cheesy, and tasty. My burger was pretty darn good. Very basic, but done well. Worked for me. We ordered the wings well done and they were a little on the other side for me. I'm guessing they were just done regular. They do their wings dry and then give you the sauce you want to dip, which strangely costs extra, but also works well enough. (The lettuce and tomato on my burger cost extra, too, but hey.) As for the clientele...there were three groups of people at the bar who seemed to be locals. Overheard by one group was, "We should have stormed the White House by now." Overheard by another was, "I love the Lord and the bible with all my heart." But they might best be summed up by this anecdote: We were watching the Rangers/Canadiens game on TV. When the Canadiens scored, the woman raised her hands and clapped. Shortly thereafter a brief argument ensued wherein there was a discussion about which was which team; it turned out she thought the Rangers had scored. A few minutes later she was again confused, as she seemed upset that the Rangers scored. That all said, the food was good, reasonably priced, good beer (also reasonably priced), and out server, who I think may have been the co-owner, was really nice and attentive. I would give this place zero stars if I could. During thunder in the valley, I was literally served a beer with fecal matter on it (rats?) and the owner took it from me without apology and charged me for a new one. Against my better judgment, I returned with some friends. As I was speaking with another friend's parents, I decided to play the jukebox which was behind their table. I got scolded by the owner for this. Not a scandalous song and not bothering anyone...not my fault u put your jukebox behind a table. Atmosphere = Divey. Small. Bathrooms are disgusting. Service = Slow (rude obvi). Food = average...go to Taco Bell and get a chalupa if you want one of their "tacos". If you want a "punky's" taco there are plenty of other places that have them in town. Meh. This place was suggested by a local who I was doing business with, so I went for lunch. I got one small beef taco, which is what they're known for and was suggested by my colleague and the waitress. The taco was very large. The house-made taco shell was made of flour and then fried on one side making it more like a Chalupa shell. The filling was very plainly seasoned and cheddar cheese iceberg lettuce and tomato. The hot sauces were a Tabasco knock off and some other run-of-the-mill mild hot sauce. All in all, nothing really good about this place other than the very friendly service. Going to Scott's is like seeing what your future would hold if you started huffing paint in your free time. The lighting is that of an operation room, but without the corresponding cleanliness. This allows you to see the other patrons as they decide whether or not you're worth robbing. Scott's had an excellent match of Wrestlemania on the TV the night I walked in. While the TV was interesting to watch, the commentary from the excited degenerates at the bar was where the real thrill emanated from. Scott's is a Johnstown hockey-folk tradition. Taco's are tasty and huge. They made Duck Farts for us, just way I like them. Scott is one of the nicest most out - going bar owners there is. If you are playing at the War Memorial, you have to get there early and hit Scott's. It's small but cozy, and the locals are super friendly. Scott's By Dam is a great little restaurant in downtown Johnstown! This place has that friendly everyone knows everyone type feel and really good food to boot. The burgers are large and delicious and the locals rave about the Taco's..This is not your typical Mexican style taco... but really good and unique and did I mention HUGE? The tacos are something of a local legend and the reality matches the legend. The owner and his son run the place and they're super friendly and hospitable.....unless you get into it with them regarding sports haha. The only problem with this place is it's terribly small. It's usually a non-issue, but if there's a hockey game or something at the War Memorial, forget it. I overheard Scott the owner talking on the phone with someone that wanted to bring a bus load of people before a hockey game. Scott said, "Have you been here before? Where would I put you?" Horrible customer service. We ordered for lunch at work and when it was delivered, items were missing. The delivery driver took the full payment for everything but when we called Scott's, we were told that they would not be delivering the missing items nor would they be refunding the money because it was our fault we paid for the missing items. The owner and his wife were extremely rude and laughing at us when we called. They are nothing but thieves stealing money but not fulfilling orders. They have permanently lost our business. Be warned if you are ordering from them for delivery. You won't get all of the items you have ordered and they will not care. read more

My co-workers and I were in town for a training and this place is about one block from the Holiday Inn Downtown. So glad we went! The atmosphere is very laid back and it was a great place to have a beer, a few bites to eat and watch a game in tv after a long day. We had the boneless chicken wings, fried pickles, onion rings and all split a small beef taco. Everything was great - the tacos are HUGE and taste incredibly homemade. Service was exceptional, we felt very welcome and had a great time. I wish we had more nights here in Johnstown so we could go back. read more

It was my brother's birthday so we were going out for a steak dinner at the Holiday Inn. We were just going to Scott's by Dam just for a beer before we ate dinner. We decided to order a Buffalo Chicken Taco as an appetizer to split between the three of us. After tasting the taco, we ordered three more small tacos and didn't get the steak. The small tacos are huge. We also ordered the Beach fries which were amazing and big enough to split between three or more people. Prices are very inexpensive compared to the food you get. Great value. Only had a few craft brews, but nothing really hoppy. Would have given the 5th star if it wasn't for that. Awesome place, though. Will definitely come back again.
