a sandwich in a styrofoam container

I like a good sub from time to time, so I am always up for finding a new place to enjoy one. My family raves about this place all the time and finally convinced me to go. This is a sub shop with a novelty theme, I know, it was started by firemen, but when you think about it, it is nothing more than a gimmick to connect with the surrounding community. I applaud that, kind of like Hard Rock when they make a connection to the city they pop up in. The pros to one of these places is that you have more than just two sizes to choose from. Unlike other sub shops you can choose from three different sizes depending on how hungry you are. You can go with small, which appears to be maybe five inches, medium, maybe seven inches, and large, my guess twelve inches. Like other sub shops you can make it a combo, but it's not one of those weak combos where you can only add chips or a cookie. These combos are pretty good. You can go with chips, but you also have salads, soups, mac n cheese, and chili. Another thing to remember is that your sub will be toasted regardless if you want it to be or not. I ordered myself the medium Italian and made it a combo. I opted for mac n cheese as my side and got a fountain drink. The Italian consists of Genoa salami, pepperoni, Virginia honey ham, Provolone cheese, Italian dressing, and served "Fully Involved." The Fully Involved basically means that on top of what is on the sub you will get deli mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onion, as well as a pickle spear on the side. The food was surprisingly decent. At least the sub was. I'm not one that likes my sub toasted, but I was alright with it. It melded the tastes together. Made for a messy sandwich a bit, but overall it was good. However the mac n cheese was a bit of a let down. The flavor was kind of there, but it was so watery that they should have labeled it a soup instead. The package of small croutons they give you to top it with just sops up the sauce and there is still loads of sauce left over. Really wished there was a gooey factor to it, but there wasn't, it was like someone added too much water to a flavoring packet. Drinks are self service. Bathrooms are clean. Staff are friendly and you can tell they already have their regulars in here.

The subs are only okay and they cost too much. There are other places to get similar products for a better price or a higher quality.

Part II The man…read morestood at about only my height, but he carried a presence. He had, "aura" as the youngin's call it these days. He wore the finest tuxedo that I've ever seen. It was so clean that it burned my eyes to look at. He looked like a boss. His posture exuded confidence and power. He looked like a man who could have you killed with the snap of a finger, or the wink of an eye. His arms were extended in front of him, hands one on top of the other grasping onto a Crystal lion skull that sat on top of a black staff. You could barely make out the lions face through his thick knuckles that were dressed with the big diamond rings. He was staring straight ahead, his eyes piercing through the silence. He also wore a fitted fedora, and had the cleanest goatee I've ever seen. He was a boss. Standing behind him was a unit of a man who stood at least 6-feet tall with broad shoulders and muscular legs that bulged through his black shorts that were cut off above the knees. He wore a long black coat like he was secret service, and a gangster hat. His face was chiseled like the David, and he also sported a clean goatee. This man was handsome. I mean, seriously good looking. As soon as I made eye contact with him, I felt the butterflies in my stomach start fluttering. Bistros walked over to the boss looking figure and his guard, and greeted them both. It appeared as Bistors knew them. He definitely knew the body guard because they exchanged a bro hug and cheek kiss like true gentleman, and I swear I saw the guard slide a piece of paper into Bistros right pocket. "It's good to see you, Bruiser," Bistros said under his breath. "Always a pleasure," the guard named Bruiser whispered back, before ending the embrace and walking the boss to the table. As the boss approached the table, I had this urge to stand and greet him. Myself and the penguin looking man rose to our feet when Bruiser the guard pulled out a chair for the boss to sit in. The boss didn't say a word. Instead he stared at us intimidatingly and extended to us his right hand. The penguin and I knelt down before him and kissed the rings. The cowboy laughed and muttered something to himself. At seeing this, Bruiser moved behind Cowboy Soriano and whispered something into his ear. It clearly left the cowboy shook because he jumped to his feet and kissed the rings of the Boss before offering an apology. Five of use were seated at the table, and Bistros stood behind the one vacant chair and his eyes darted from person to person nervously. The boss finally spoke. "Where's the sixth," he said in a strong New York accent while staring at Bistros. "He should be arriving shortly," said the skittish waiter. "He just flew in today from Las Vegas." "Vegas?" I thought to myself. Who could possibly be joining us all the way from Vegas, and why? It didn't take long for me to get my answer. The door flew open once more and another man entered the restaurant. He was a lively gentleman who wore an oversized New York Rangers jersey to go along with navy dress pants, blew high tipped dress shoes, and a sun visor that read "Big Winner" on the brim. He was holding a golden guitar from guitar hero and wore tons of high roller bling around his neck. "Wassup you clowns," he said jokingly when he reached the table. This was a man that I could appreciate. Someone who didn't take themselves too seriously and was around for a good time. I could tell he was a good soul. "Welcome," Bistros said to the man. "You must be Vegas Strickland." "One and the same, but please call me 'Always Winning'," said the man. "Winner of five streak Big Pot Jackpot tournaments." He sat down and asked for a large glass of lemonade with a fork inside the filled glass. It was an odd request, but hey, to each their own. The table was now full, but no one knew why we were there, who invited us, and what the reason was for this meeting. "So, I'm guessing you all got the same invite that I did?" I asked. "I guess so," responded Soriano. "That appears to be the case," said Monsieur Huile. "Mine was delivered to me at the card table," explained Vegas. "We found ours on our car windshield two days ago," mentioned Bruiser. "I'd love to know who is wasting my time," the Boss added, looking impatiently at Bistros, who was standing in a puddle of his own sweat. "This is very peculiar," I said. "What may we all have in common?" "Gentlemen," Bistros said through quivering lips. "I...I..." Suddenly, Bistros whipped out two from his pockets, aimed them, and...

In all the time that I have lived in and around Johnstown, I had never been able to make it here…read more On a recent trip back home I met my sister and her family for a dinner. I'm glad I finally did to check this place of my to try list. From the outside, it looks like a typical hole-in-the-wall bar in the Johnstown area. I had no idea where parking was because every time I drove past here I would be doing it at a pace I couldn't see. I was happy to see that there was ample parking behind the street facing building. Entry from the parking lot takes you up stairs or a zig-zagging ramp that looks fairly new. This area is also connected to an outdoor seating area, can't really call it a patio. Or, you can enter from outside and take the stairs up into dining room. This is a seat yourself establishment. Once you are seated, you are greeted and given menus. What an extensive menu it is. The amount of items on the menu, if you haven't been here before, can be daunting. It took me a few minutes to just give it a once over. When the server came back around to take our drink order she asked if we needed a few more minutes, yes, we did. When she returned I was ready to go. I ordered the Pickle Chips as my appetizer and the Howler as my main. The Pickle Chips were served with a side of ranch for dipping and they were amazing. Perfectly coated, not too much and not too little. Dipping in the ranch cooled them down just enough to be enjoyable. Now, the Howler, is kind of an experience. The Howler is one of their signature burgers. Half-pound patty cooked to your liking. The set toppings on this burger is bacon, choice of cheese (American Cheddar, Swiss, Provolone, or Pepper Jack), meat sauce, and a fried egg. You also can choose to add lettuce tomato onion and pickle. For mine, I went American for the cheese, lettuce, onion and pickle. There really wasn't any need for condiments as there was already so much on the burger to give it flavor. It almost comes off as either a breakfast burger or a chili cheese burger. Although I did as for medium, they overcooked it a bit. What was a nice addition here was the side. You can go with the traditional fries or go for one of many that don't seem to have an upcharge to it. Tater tots, slaw, applesauce, or nachos and one item for an upcharge, onion rings. I went with tater tots. Overall, this was an enjoyable meal. Our service was impeccable. Atmosphere was lively.
