I've been into Scott's a few times for work, and each time I was pleased with the work. Scott himself is an excellent Smith who does high quality work. The item I Had worked on was a 1911 that had trouble feeding hollow points since I Purchased it. Ball ammo was never an issue. Took it in, the clerk looked at it, said it will probably be a couple months as they were back-logged. I just got it back, and while I haven't fired it yet (just got it yesterday evening), the ramp and throat work is beautiful! The metal is mirror bright, and slick. I've no doubt this 1911 will operate flawlessly now. And then the cost! $100 for a quality of work that is this impressive! I could not give higher marks to them. My recommendation is that everyone stay as far away from this vile place as possible. Some of the employees are very kind but the owner and gunsmith is so full of anger and he spews it on everyone he encounters. While I was there he was terse and rude with a gentlemen kindly asking a question telling him come back with the sights and then I'll talk to you. Then with me he refused to honor the 23% consignment fee quoted me on the phone for my two weapons and instead tried to price gouge 28% on one weapon and 50% on the other. Both were in demand firearms in excellent condition. He then berated the one employee who was there for the other employee having quoted me 23% commission. Talk about misplaced agresssion. He has so much pent up aggression and he applies it to every human being in his vicinity. When he first came out he was complaining loudly that nothing good is in Maryland whatsoever yet he has lived here 63 years and hasn't left but just keeps complaining. Can't believe this shop is still in business. I guess that's why he's not terribly busy though and the place is rather rundown to boot. With that kind of anger and all those firearms around, not a safe place for either your physical or mental health. read more

Great customer service here at Scott's Gunsmithing. I went in with a specific shotgun in mind that I wanted to buy. Although they didn't have it in stock at the time, Bo, one of the salesmen/reps there, gave me a complete rundown of each shotgun they did have and provided very professional suggestions about each type and best usage of the gun. I will be returning soon to place a special order with them! Why go to a large brick and mortar store (i.e. Bass Pro Shops) and buy a gun when you can shop local? These guys possess expert knowledge and as the name of the store says, there's an actual gunsmith onsite to take care of your needs instead of dealing with a manufacturer or someone at a large store that will not only overcharge you, but might not know what they're talking about. read more

My family and I have been buying things from scott for years went in other day to see if he had any ideas for a spacer on a drum screw he was in bad mood and wouldn't even talk to me about it. Scott's Gunsmithing is a great place because of Scotty. He is an expert gunsmith. And he is a gunsmith not a parts changer. His trigger jobs on everything I ever taken him have been flawless. I have some guns he did trigger work on 20 years ago that are still as crisp today as they were when I first got them back. Are the lead times long. Yeah, but most really good gunsmiths have long lead times, some longer. I can afford to wait for a job done right the first time as opposed to one that keeps needing to go back for "adjustments". Do yourself a favor and make the trip, you'll be glad you did. read more

5 Star because they are really hands down the best. I feel a little bit bad about giving them 5 because it takes a really really long time. However, this is a symptom of them being so good. Everybody wants these guys to be the ones tuning and smithing and whateverelseing their firearms. So there's always a backlog. The other reason there might be a backlog is because they do more then they actually bill you for. They are seriously anal about their job, and they do a perfect one at that. The rates are good too. They don't kill you with a super high per hour charge. The parts charges are fair. You just end up spending a lot of money here because they do good work and you can always get things tuned or modded to be better. The ONLY. ONLY problem is that it takes forever. And I'm willing to wait considering how good these folk are. read more

First I want to say I'm not one to write reviews but I believe that finding a good armorer/gunsmith/shop is important if you own any firearms. This is not the place!!!! I went into Scott's to see if they would be able to help me break my castle but off of my ar15. I was having problems getting the nut off do to it being staked. They took my ar in the back for about 5 mins and then brought it back out. They said that they can't get it off because it was staked and the only way to get it off was to cut the nut. They told me I could leave it and they would have it done in about 3 weeks. I decided to take my rifle and purchase a spanner wrench (the ar armorer tool) and try it myself. After about 15 mins of working with the nut and the spanner wrench the nut came off. I'm very disappointed in the service and turn around time for something that took me 15 mins to do would take an armorer 3 weeks. Also while I was there I priced a few items and the inflation mark ups were outrageous. This place is very pricey, with no customer service skills and a terrible turn around time. Will never go back!!!! read more

I've been a repeat customer at Scotts, and they've barreled two AR-15 for me, done some barrel threading, and other custom smithing. I've been repeatedly pleased with their prices, turnaround time, and the quality of work. All excellent. The staff doesn't just care that their work functions, but that it looks sharp and well executed. The shop is small and there isn't a ton of merchandise in there, but they have the basics and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. If you're looking for a good gunsmith, you can stop looking. read more

Been to Scott's a couple times in the past. He has serviced an SKS, 30-30 and most recently a Mosin for me. He kinda "worked outside the box" to help me with some ideas i had and was super helpful. The shop wasnt overly busy so he worked on my rifle while i was there. They had a small-decent selection and his prices arent crazy like most other shops in the area. Mostly glocks, 1911s, AR style, mil surplus and HD shotguns. Didnt see an abundance of hunting rifles. Scott is very easy to talk to and isnt 'full of himself' like 90% of MD Gun shop owners. His staff arent the most knowledgable but they will bend your ear while you wait to talk with Scott. I wish I would have given him my business sooner. read more

Went in to get a barrel cut, recrown, threaded from a 16" to a 13.7" for my sig mcx pistol build (mind you with the break it would still be a legal 16") I also don't claim MD as primary so I don't have to abide by the stupid 29" oal or whatever dumb crap they do in this stasi/gestapo run state . I was told I may have a problem going there but I could not have imagined it would be that big of a hassle. They made me feel like I was trying to do something illegal the entire time, insisting I bring in the firearm that it was going on so they could see it and or bring in the form1 I submitted for another rifle I borrowed the barrel off of. The gunsmith probably does good work however the older shmucks that run the shop are not so good. Not only that most things in the shop are outrageously priced, ammo being in plastic ziplock bags and priced over 1.50$ per a round of 9mm I had to laugh a little. Taking full advantage of the pandemic/price gouging I would avoid this place at all cost unless you know them on a first name basis. read more
