We rented a pontoon as a group of 9 college students ($180 for 4 hrs) and were able to get out on the water and visit Shell Island. This place is superb, and the guys that work there are really helpful and friendly. We rented a pontoon for only 135 for a half day, which was the cheapest price around. We got an extra 2 hours included the following day, for being repeat customers! Go out to Shell Island, and get away from all the tourists... the beaches are paradise, with open stretches of untouched white sand, and crystal clear emerald water. The pontoon comes with an anchor, so you can hang out in the shallow bays, swimming around the boat. Walk over the island to the gulf side... it is much prettier, and there is also more of a breeze. The wildlife and snorkeling is great, and the dolphins swim right along your boat! You can even jump out and swim around them, but watch out for jellyfish in the deeper areas... at least you can see them in the clear water! This is a must whilst you are in Panama City... it is such a refreshing change from the beach front road scene. read more

Amazing day on the bay with family! Reserved a pontoon a few days ahead and check in was a breeze! The owner and all the deck help were super helpful and efficient! As long as you follow their rules and respect their equipment, you'll have hecka fun! The bay is HUGE and the water is definitely not like our lake water. It's choppier. But the owner will make sure to answer any questions or concerns you may have about the bay. saw a few dolphin &, lots of fishes while snorkeling. We even had a large Spanish mackerel jump onto our boat while heading out towards shell island! Scared the teens since it literally landed on our daughter! Flopping everywhere! The whole family had a blast! By the way, Make sure you tip the crew. They wash up and prep your boat and will also take you on a test run just to see if the water ripples are too choppy or too windy for you. We will definitely be back when in town again! I loved this place! We had a huge group of people and rented two boats for the Memorial Day weekend. The prices were more than reasonable( less than 300 per boat with availability for up to 10-12 people, which means we each paid about $30 bucks apiece for an amazing day of crab fishing, sunbathing, little private beach areas that you need a boat to get across to and in general lovelyness I will definately be back to this place read more

Great place if you like honest people. They charged the same rate for a full day pontoon rental as every other rental company but the other places also charged extra for the optional insurance. (I had called around) When I got to Scotty Boat I asked about the extra insurance and was pleased to her "All the boats are insured and although some of the other companies charge extra for it, we don't" The boat was what you would expect.... average, a little worn but ran great all day. I do wish that it had a radio but in hind sight I should have asked about the radio ahead of time. Shell Island was fantastic and we started seeing dolphins as soon as we pulled away from the beach at Scotty's! The next time we are in PCB, we will use Scotty again :) read more

Rented from Scotty's today. Great experience. Good price. No time slots to rent between. Basically come when you can and rent for 1/2 day or full day. We liked this a lot. Made it easy to not have to be there by a certain time and lose time on the boat because your late. No problems with the pontoon. Staff did troubleshooting with us before and taught us how to handle the boat. Kids had fun pretending to be "captain." Saw dolphins 3 different times by just driving around the bay. Anchored the pontoon multiple times all around Shell island. We will use them for sure next time we come back to PCB. read more

Rented for 1/2 day, which was plenty. The gentlemen working here at Scotty were pleasant and funny, but very, very thorough. They manage a fleet is 20ish boats, so they know their business and they don't mess around. Before leaving the dock, they provided many insights into things we might encounter on our day. After reviewing the operation and features of the vessel itself (the engine, the gas tank, the anchor, life preservers, the throwable, the gas level, AND they reviewed the map (shallow areas + sea grass areas = very crucial information) as well as the do's and don'ts of the local bay area. In addition, they also provided insights into who MUST wear a vest (and when), be prepared to meet the local Game Warden(with a warning about BWIs), what the tide is doing (so your boat does not get stranded on a sand bar, requiring a costly removal), and so on. And finally, they ask if you are comfortable with the weather (since spot showers are common in Summer around here)...aaaannnnd you're OFF! In a nutshell, you leave the dock with complete knowledge you need for a safe and fun outing AND their phone number in case there are ANY issues. With that, the family and I spent a relaxing afternoon snorkeling at Shell island and the entire experience was great, Thanks to the crew at Scotty! read more

This is a MUST DO and Scotty and the guys who work there are SO nice!! We had such an incredible time the first day we rented one of their pontoon boats for a half-day, that we came back a day later to rent one for a full day!! We loved the upgraded pontoon boat! So comfortable and extremely easy to maneuver! Going on the shuttle just didn't sound appealing to us at all and when you get your own boat you don't have to be on anyone else's time but your own! ESPECIALLY if you have younger kiddos renting your own boat is the way to go!!! There's plenty of shade on the boat and you can bring whatever stuff you want (ice chests, canopy to set-up on the beach, sand toys, etc...). Almost immediately we saw dolphins (including two sets of mothers with their calves!), and you're able to stay with the dolphins for as long as you like or as long as you can keep tabs on where they're resurfacing. ;-) Then....SHELL ISLAND! WOW!! SHELL ISLAND!!!! On the BAY SIDE it's so calm. You can anchor or beach your boat and go snorkeling to see all sorts of fish, big blue-clawed crabs, stingrays, and turtles. Do wear reef shoes, because there are urchins. We didn't have shoes and did fine, because the urchins are mainly in the grass that you can swim over and you can walk on the sand, but next time we're bringing reef shoes. On the GULF SIDE it feels like you're at the end of the world. NO ONE was there both days we went, and the second day we set up our beach canopy and stayed for hours! The sand is SO white and the ocean is so clear and so blue. Absolutely STUNNING! (...and I grew up in Hawaii, so I know beaches. This was no Hawaii, but it was absolutely STUNNING!!) The ocean was so clear that as you stood on the beach you could see sea turtles swimming by and dolphins went by, too. My husband and I took turns snorkeling with our son as the other one kept a watchful eye on the water. You didn't feel unsafe at ALL, but we weren't taking any chances with sharks - especially with our son being so small. Our son was able to dive down 4-6 feet to retrieve all different types of beautiful shells. HE HAD A BLAST!! WE ALL HAD A BLAST!! It was incredible!!! We did not want to leave and we'll definitely be back! When we come back - we're renting from Scotty's!! ***As an added bonus, there's also an Air Force Base not far, so you can see jets doing flyovers from time to time. Two of our son's most favorite things are fast jets and dolphins. At one point, there were jets overhead and dolphins in the water at the same time. We felt like ROCK STAR PARENTS!! Having rented pontoon boats in the past from the St. Andrews marina, I can compare the pro's and con's of renting for convenience vs. renting for experience. While we've paid less in the past (but not by much), renting from Scotty's was easy, easy, easy. Yes, a bit further from where you'll likely stay (we were on the Lower Lagoon), but totally worth the drive (17 minutes from our condo). The biggest plus was moving out to the gulf - very easy. We didn't have to deal with the marina congestion and the egotistic 'captains' of the mega yachts. Just a straight, clean shot to the Gulf and to Shell Island. We even saw a couple of dolphins within the first two minutes. Thanks a bunch guys! Your service was wonderful and we'll use you again! read more

We are frequent travelers to Panama city beach Florida, two time previous to the past weekend we have rented from Scotty's - the prices are pretty darn low and until this past weekend the service was good. This weekend our boat broke down, it took them an hour and a half to replace it (no price break or anything) then the boat we got had issues too. Normally my husband wouldn't say anything, but we had much more planned to do on the boat and because of the issues we weren't able to. When he talked to the owner he said everyone id's at the mercy of the equipment and that doing do discounts for time list. I thought this was pretty unfair, but he was unwilling to do anything about our disappointment. Needles to say I think he just lost a repeat customer. read more

We recently rented a pontoon boat for a full day from Scotty's. This was our first time renting and driving a boat on our own, and as a mom of young children had some reservations about our ability to safely drive since we did not have prior boating experience. The employees were very helpful and informative, going over basic boating instructions and even allowing us to test "drive" to make sure we felt comfortable. We needed a large cooler for all the fish we were going to catch and Scotty loaned us one. It would have been nice to have caught enough to fill the cooler but we didn't .
