Scotty's is everything you need at a beach bar. Spectacular view of the ocean, friendly employees and cold beer. I would not recommend the food, necessarily, unless you are starving. Very sparse on the inside, not the fanciest place but definitely nice that it's on the beach. I ordered 2 rum and cokes which lacked consistency between both drinks. Our tab showed 2 different prices for the 2 Miller Lites my husband drank and 2 different prices on my 2 rum and cokes. This place has been a weekend home for my friends and family for many years. If you need a break from the heat on the beach or just heat from your wife, make a quick run up the stairs to Scotty's! What's not to like about Scotty's? The location is right on the beach, so you can enjoy views of the ocean while getting your drink on. We went up to the bar twice, and both times we received prompt service from a friendly bartender. The first round we shared one of those huge cocktails that comes in a pail (that you get to keep). The second round was 5 shots of fireball and 5 Miller lites, which came to a total of $35. To me, that's a great value. This is definitely a local spot and there are definitely no frills. I wouldn't get any food here, but I will be back for drinks. read more

This place served it's purpose. I wanted a cold beer. That's about it. It's got a cool patio to chill on but the douchebag working the bar left much to be desired. I went in at like 2pm on Monday and there was one couple sitting at the bar. The bardude was way to involved in his conversation to even make eye contact with me or anything but again, that's ok. My husband and I went there earlier this afternoon, we got a root beer float and a sunrise for roughly $16 (I don't remember exactly because it was cash, but there was enough for the tip and a couple bucks left over from a $20). We went back later on today with a different bartender, and the guy tried to charge us $20 with the same root beer float and a mango frozen drink!! Then when we told him that is not what we paid earlier, he tried to tell us it's because our drinks were premium! (which was a $10 option on the menu under the Margarita menu only). He then made a show of taking out our $6 change out of his tip jar, and told us we were the only people in 10 years who ever questioned the price. The bartender then told the other people with us that he was suddenly "out" of the sarsaparilla whiskey when they wanted to order some drinks right after us. We've had people in our party going here all week for frozen drinks, and they've always been around $7. We will never go back. I am one who usually never complains, but this was absolutely ridiculous. read more

Dive-y local beach bar ('affiliated' with the Days Inn), right on Surfside Beach, pier adjacent. No frills interior and exterior. Cheap beers, price-y frozen drinks. Friendly staff, clientele. Wish the place had a wraparound deck, or even a larger deck at that, so that you could partake in the view on the outside (instead of the much divier [is that a word?] inside). The DJs are hit or miss, and the DJ on one of the particular nights was BLARING, (at 5 pm, mind you), some pretty horrible Country. (I know, I'm in the South, it's the soundtrack, but turn it down a notch). read more

You should be able to leave a minus star rating. Not because of the employees or all the great volunteers. We (family of 9) happened to stop by this past weekend on Sunday 5/26 and they were having a fund raiser for a Veteran's center in Little River, SC (my mom lives in L River). As we were buying tickets for the fish and drinks at the front table some very nasty man came over to "speak" to the men working the table. He was very unprofessional and disrespectful not only to the men at the table but rudely held up any transactions at the table. We came to discover, after talking with people he is the manager of the hotel (surfside resort owns the bar), and one of the guys at the table is the bar manager. He was reprimanding an employee in public???? We had a great time - unexpected happenstance. Meet a bunch of people that were locals and volunteering for the cause - I hope that hotel boss doesn't get any credit, we watched him and his daughter "prance" around that's all we saw him do other than hold up the entry of my family getting to the great fish fry food! I would normally leave this review on the hotel since he was the manager, but we didn't stay at the hotel. The bar staff, bands and volunteers were all friendly. The cause is one close to my family, we really enjoyed our time. But the first impression can't go unnoticed, especially when we found out who the "cranky ass" was. We're going check out the center in Little River too since they were very nice and informative. read more

This bar is rundown and the staff is super unprofessional. The young bartender was sexually inappropriate with some of the older gentlemen in the bar. The other bartender was behind the bar eating and making "snacks" from their menu. Also, washing glasses, pitchers, etc consisted of rinsing with water. Not sure how they could ever pass a health inspection. We won't be back. Also, the younger female bartender said, "I hate dollar tips." This was in reference to a guy that bought a two dollar bud light and left a buck. read more

We've been going here for years, however last night will be our final visit. We had a large party of 13; seven of which had never been to Scotty's before. A man (later identified as "Chip" and a part owner) came up to our table, unprovoked, and began to shout "what the hell is the matter with you?", followed by some additional foul and inappropriate language, to a family member who was sitting at a table with the rest of us. We found out that he was upset because a woman from our group was standing while her husband was sitting. As a native of Charleston and current resident of South Carolina I was raised to be chivalrous; however this owner's approach was completely unprovoked and unwarranted. Before we left, I got the opportunity to chat with Chip and get to know him. It was then that I learned he is a part owner of the business and a former resident of Pennsylvania. I told him that his words had completely turned us off from this location and that he had lost our future business. As I tried to walk away, he grabbed my arm firmly and attempted to keep me from leaving. I had to repeatedly tell him to remove his hands from me. Once he did, we left without further incident. In short, it is a shame that one part-owner (and yankee transplant) felt the need to verbally acoste my family member and leave us with such distain for what should be a great beach front bar. read more
