How could you not love this place. This place has been around since 1944 and is still giving people an awesome time to this day. This is where the legendary country band Alabama got their start. The house band as of now is called the bounty hunters, and they are awesome. They play everything from wagon wheel to Alan Jackson to Eric Clapton to Ryan Adams. They even played Ella Langley. Ambiance is very southern redneck bar. Flounder sandwich is straight from local bulk food store. Not really all that good, not bad. Sadly the fresh cut fries were cold. The cheese fries were sad. My brother and I walked up with our mom this evening who is recovering from hip surgery. As we were walking up, the security guard stated she was walking too slow and not steady enough to enter. Meanwhile, there were girls passed out on the patio floor and another throwing up over the side. The security guard was on a total power trip and ruined this place for us. Stopped in early on a Saturday night with the family, 5 of us. Not a big space, so we took the only table in the restaurant capable of seating five. Restaurant was really a bar area with tables surrounding it, and a small gift shop. A few sports games on the televisions, only a few drunks at the bar, not overly annoying. Waitress was very good, and food was good. We had wings, mozzarella sticks, burgers and salads. I wouldn't recommend the wings, they just had a strange taste. Tony and I walked up to the Bowery from our hotel room. It was a short 10 minute hike and the weather was so lovely. We went inside wearing our masks and grabbed a seat near the front of the establishment. I was surprised to see that they allowed smoking inside. It was fine just alarming. We ordered our drinks, Tony a Budweiser since no PBR available, myself a Coca cola and we shared a basket of mushrooms. our waiter was very nice and timely. The iconic Bowery was a must do for our party of 20 while on our family trip to Myrtle Beach. The music was amazing , the cocktail waiter and one bartender were amazing however the female bartender in the main bar was rude to almost everyone in our party and we refused to go back to her. The bouncer/ doorman had not one drop of personality and acted as if we were all bothering him. The final straw was the band played their last song and the bouncer came and told us to leave at 1240. We dropped a pretty penny in there and would have been back if the service would have been a slight bit welcoming to us and our money. read more

My friend and I heard that they had live country music, good food and very reasonably priced drinks, so it was right up our alley. When we walked up to the door the bouncer stepped in front of us and quietly paused. It was a very awkward stare so I naturally wondered if he was about to tell us that they were closed. I took out my ID. He looked at it and handed it back to me, and was still silent. He looked at my friends ID as well but still blocked the doorway. We looked at each other and then at him. So finally he says,"That will be $20's." I said,"To get in?" He said,"Yes, $20 each." Note: We live in a state where things are much more expensive than South Carolina but something about his request seemed odd. Most of the bars sold drinks for a dollar or two so there's no way in hell they are charging people $20 to get in. We definitely had the money and were fine to pay it but there was a nagging feeling that told me that it didn't cost $40 to get into this place. We weren't wanted in there and he hoped the request for $20 or the long awkward silent stares would scare us away. So I said,"No problem, but do you mind if we just go inside to look like to see what it's like and we will come right back and pay if we decide we want to stay. He cracked a sly grin and there was this relieved look in his face. He stepped aside and when we walked in we saw the entire place decorated with confederate flags. We stood there looking around for a second and realized they were staring at us. People at the bar, at side tables, waiters, people standing around and table bus people just stopped and stared. I am not someone who minds people looking at me, but there's something about stepping foot in a place where everyone stares at you the same time that reaaaaally paints the picture that they don't want you there. We turned to each other and smiled and walked slowly to the door feeling their awkward stares burning in the back of us as we walked back to the door. I thanked the bouncer on my way out and said we would leave. He gave a toothy grin and said mmmm hmmm. I believe he knew we'd leave. As we walked home talking about how they had at least 500 flags plastered all over this bar I couldn't help but wonder if he only charged us $20 a piece to get in with hopes that we'd leave? I wondered what would've happened if we sat down to be served? With people staring like I had a nerve to step in the doorway, I was never going to find out. So, they've been on the news and have since updated their confederate flag to their own Bowery flag. Good for them, but this isn't a place I would ever give a chance again. I've never heard a highly educated person arguing the importance of the confederate flag, and more than likely I never will. read more

I was legitimately considering not showing up here due to the vast number of negative reviews. We literally went to another bar and asked if this place was any good. And I'll tell you first hand... I don't understand the negative feedback this place gets. Me and my gf (party of two) went the day after Father's Day. I saw a review talking about confederate flags on here.... I did not see one and I was there for three hours. We arrived right at 8:30 when the house band plays. I'll be honest they took a couple songs to warm up. But when they did, each singer was great. I literally couldn't believe that the same person was singing after the first couple of songs. They play an even mix of modern and old country, and later on they switched to rock. I saw a number of reviews saying "don't tip the band, they won't play your song." I think that's bullshit tbh we literally gave them a song they upfront said they weren't used to playing it, and they still tried there best. And we literally only threw a fiver. I will say this though, I didn't see a single minority there. So I can't really comment on the increase of prices to minorities that a number of reviews had put. I paid 5$ for Budweiser and 6$ for an ipa. We didn't order food. In regards to the bouncer that was rude... I don't think he works there anymore. They had a youngish man working the front and he was very polite. All in all I think you should give it try, great music and cheap beer. If you don't like it there's plenty of bars nearby. But I honestly think it's worth a shot for you to check it out, you will be pleasantly surprised. I'll be coming back if I'm in the area. Stopped in for some drinks and appetizers. Everything was great! I got the "Skinny Dip" and I think I found my new summer drink! We also just got fries and Mac and cheese bites but both were just what we needed to hold us over for the day. Two stars because we could not even give it a chance. I had Googled things to do in Myrtle and this popped up as an iconic place. We walked in through the Duffy's side and were overwhelmed by cigarette smoke. I asked the young guy at the front if we could walk though to the Bowery side to see if it was better as I am sensitive to smoke and he said no problem.
